Surprised and a little unsatisfied if that's the case. Bioware can do better than this, it sprints forth directly into combat in a manner I would sooner expect of any conventional b-grade action shooter. I really expected better than that tbh.

What would we gain by having a trial scene?  It would be invalidated once the Reapers arrived anyway - that would be the real beginning of the story.  Why insert a superfluous scene right at the start of the game?

People want their day in court after the events of arrival.  I don't think people want a CS, I think they want a interactive trial with a dialogue wheel.

That would have it's own problems though, either it's rushed and it gets confusing or people get mad because it is rushed or you drag it out and it winds up taking 30 minutes for the player to even take control of his/her character which seems like a very bad decision.

Rather take my chances with that then play Arrival and have all this 'you'll have to answer for this', 'be sure to show up with your dress blues on', etc, etc, etc.  Then there's nothing.

I'm actually surprised at how poorly the intro is done. I know BW want people to start shooting things ASAP, but there are much better ways to go about it.

Just because the DA2 demo had the entire opening in it doesn't mean ME3 is the same way. It's fully possible that there's been purely story-based content cut in order to make the 2GB limit for demos.

The conversations with Vega and Anderson-- as well as the board-- will surely have more dialogue options. Plus there's likely more done before what we've played, and an elongated intro after what we've played, in which the main story sets up, you gather your team, etc.

It's a demo, not the final product.

I don't know theres no trial. Maybe there aren't any more dialogue options either. Maybe the whole game is like that.

People need to stop entertaining the idea that this is cut content. The intro is the full intro. The sooner we all realize this the better, lest we have a bunch of bitter optimists on our hands come release.

D'you think that really would have been a good scene, though?  Would Shepard as a character come across as particularly likeable if the game started with him/her delivering a smug told-you-so lecture?

If that's the personality my Shepard has, yes why not? Your Shepard might be different from mine. It would suit mine perfectly.

Forcing active narrative cohesion at the top could be a very bad thing. It would most appeal to people who have played arrival, however they are the ones who least need it to establish the proper context. For new players and or ME2 players who never touched arrival it would be forcing them into a situation where they would have to explain/justify actions that they have no frame of reference towards.

I wonder then are we allowed a different opening if we bought or played arrival? Or are the role-players who've invested their time and money over the last 5 years just blatantly told to **** off and pretend it never happened?

Not done a lot of role playing I guess?

That's a very bad guess!

Remember, we have the luxury of hindsight and leaks, the in game characters don't know the reapers are going to attack at that moment, they would be going about their normal lives and duties, a trial(or part trial before the reapers interrupt) would be a good place to setup the story for beginners and for those who played the previous games a run down of past events, I personally am never interested in getting straight into combat for my first play through, for that I play something like Crysis.

Most people are very interested in getting straight into conflict at the beginning of a story.  Earth falling to the Reapers is a much more epic and exciting conflict than an officer's trial for some past event - especially given that the former will invalidate the latter as soon as it occurs.  A trial scene would add several minutes of pointless conflict right at the start of the game, the bit that has to grab the audience's attention.

Basically Arrival marketed as something that would hold meaning in ME 3 but its completely useless. BioWare knows how to market.

You have a very strange way of looking at things.  Mass 2 didn't start with Shepard expositing about the events of Mass 1, but I never felt like I was being told to pretend it hadn't happened.  Did you?

We're pushing on to a new story.  We don't need to see how Lando went from betraying Han to joining the plan to rescue him - we just want to see Han busted out so we can get on with the plot.

In my opinion, I think they will do another comic thing for the trial where you make paragon or renegade choices and such for those who have not played ME 1 or 2..... Just my thought on it.

That would be fine if we were just discussing the abruptness of the Earth level's narrative, but this is about the trial that Arrival had built up to.  We didn't have anyone speak about the Empire's trap in Cloud City for Luke in A New Hope, so we didn't have any expectations on what will happen in The Empire Strikes Back (sans those who read the book before the film...).

Ok no where in the reply does it say its the full intro to the game the reply you got says and I quote "No, the demo is taken directly from the beginning of the game." It seems like your assuming from Chris' reply that its the whole intro when he doesn't say that he only says it's taken from the game. And the question is will it be different not if anything was cut now that part we say of the demo may not be different but that doesn't mean nothing was cut.

You can see some of the cut lines (for memory) during the committee walk if you have subtitles on.  However, the trial is AWL.

He flat out asked will the beginning of the game be different from the demo, and Chris says no.  I don't see the gray area here.

There's really not that many blanks to fill in though, Shepard went to Earth for the trial. The ME2 squad left before, during, or after, it doesn't really matter. The tribunal took away the ship and sentenced Shepard to a form of house arrest based on Anderson and Hackett's influence and more of a willingness to accept what he/she said than the concil was. Shepard spent the remainder of the interim getting "soft around the edges". They basically explain all of that in the introduction.

Oh dear. Believe what you want to believe, but i implore you, don't expect anything more than the demo intro. You'll be severely disappointed.

I will be througly pissed because the demo playthrough I watched it just felt like a cutscene there was no interaction where is the Role playing elements? He just auto gives this speech? What is this COD? Then other gameplay vds Ive seen there are for the most part 2 choices. Paragon and Renegade. I mean seriously? Will it be like this the whole time when your on a mission no investigating? Just good cop or bad cop. I would be very disappointed.

You get +1 internets for extending outside of the BSN mindset by trying to put yourself in the position of 90% of Mass Effect fans who don't deal with all of the peripherals or visit these boards.

There may be more dialogue options for people who've imported rather than starting from scratch.

I'm probably dragging the topic but, after reading a couple of pages to catch up. I'm optimistic about ME3 in general even if they will exclude the trial. I have replied to Chris no response but I guess my PM was more detailed. The only thing that bothers me with the reply is Chris is so vague when responding to stuff last time he said their was now their isn't.

And believe me I watched the leaked demo on You Tube and the intro was longer. But Bioware probably changed their mind. Well Here's looking forward to the inevitable GOTY.

EDIT: Fixed wasn't to was.
