I just didn't know what was going on... Seriously, I hope this isn't the real final introduction, because I didn't understand what the **** was going on...

Gameplay's great though...

Sorry, you are going to have to talk down to me a bit more clearly - I wasn't able to infer the insult.

Actually, I read your posts as intelligent, my remark was not aimed directly at you.

Really?  You didn't understand it?  What didn't you understand?

I will be througly pissed because the demo playthrough I watched it just felt like a cutscene there was no interaction where is the Role playing elements? He just auto gives this speech? What is this COD? Then other gameplay vds Ive seen there are for the most part 2 choices. Paragon and Renegade. I mean seriously? Will it be like this the whole time when your on a mission no investigating? Just good cop or bad cop. I would be very disappointed.

There may be more dialogue options for people who've imported rather than starting from scratch.

Then they are alienating newer players. BW has been nothing but trying to cater to newer players.

I wonder then are we allowed a different opening if we bought or played arrival? Or are the role-players who've invested their time and money over the last 5 years just blatantly told to **** off and pretend it never happened?

You have a very strange way of looking at things.  Mass 2 didn't start with Shepard expositing about the events of Mass 1, but I never felt like I was being told to pretend it hadn't happened.  Did you?

We're pushing on to a new story.  We don't need to see how Lando went from betraying Han to joining the plan to rescue him - we just want to see Han busted out so we can get on with the plot.

That would be fine if we were just discussing the abruptness of the Earth level's narrative, but this is about the trial that Arrival had built up to.  We didn't have anyone speak about the Empire's trap in Cloud City for Luke in A New Hope, so we didn't have any expectations on what will happen in The Empire Strikes Back (sans those who read the book before the film...).

There's really not that many blanks to fill in though, Shepard went to Earth for the trial. The ME2 squad left before, during, or after, it doesn't really matter. The tribunal took away the ship and sentenced Shepard to a form of house arrest based on Anderson and Hackett's influence and more of a willingness to accept what he/she said than the concil was. Shepard spent the remainder of the interim getting "soft around the edges". They basically explain all of that in the introduction.

My point isn't about filling the blanks (as I've said, that will be done on the Normandy), but about build up.  We were getting this build up to the trial, both with the end of Arrival and the Vega comic, and then it's gone.

I don't mind the feel of the intro at all, but I still am disappointed that the trial was nixed.

Thanks!  But I still don't get what you were saying, so I'm obviously not that intelligent.  You will need to elucidate.

It must hurt to stretch that much.

How do you expect people that didn't play Arrival and read Conviction would understand? "Hey, I have just destroyed the Collectors, stopped a human Reaper and gave TIM and Cerberus the finger! Why did they take my ship?"

Remember even though it might be a weird or confusing intro they will in my opinion give new players more details and veteran players a recap on the ship.

Ah but the newer players would find it more alienating to have a bunch of dialogue options they couldn't understand.  Imagine picking up the third entry in a series and right at the beginning some NPC was demanding to know why you didn't destroy the Triangle of Zinthar.  You'd be like, what the hell are these dudes talking about.  Way slicker to just hide the option from the newbies.

Nope not at all. If they really did remove the "trial". The big thing about The Arrival was that it was going to lead into Mass Effect 3 with the actions Shepard cause. He would have to explain himself. Now I'm remaining optimistic that they didn't cut it from the full game.

Thus why there are 3 options. Action, Role play, Story.

people seem to be forgetting about import save and the comic (me genesis style)

this dialogue is like playing mass effect 2 without any saves imported

so calm down people

Either way trial or no trial Arrival is the link to ME3 so its inevitably going to be mentioned.

Maybe the whole working-with-terrorists thing?  Shepard is obviously back in the fold and obviously in hot water.  It's not difficult to understand.

I think you're being deliberately obtuse.  This is a common literary device.  If at the start of a new season of 24 Jack Bauer has grown a beard and sleeps in the daytime and doesn't answer the phone until the President himself rings, the audience doesn't go "Whoa!  Jack saved the USA at the end of the last season - HOW CAN WE BE EXPECTED TO UNDERSTAND HIS NEW SITUATION?"  We didn't need to see his breakdown to understand and accept that his situation has moved on from when we last saw him.

We have mentioned a comic to recap previous events plenty of times. ;)

When genuine fans of the series get confused by it I feel really bad for how the casual player will feel. The type that doesn't know every detail like many here...

Maybe a Mass Effect 2.5 expansion needs to come to explain what was happening for the missing months. Was Shepard playing with his space hamster the whole time?

They have to be brought up to speed on the reapers, collectors, and everything else right.  Just put the events of Arrival in their with the Virmire choice, the council choice, etc, etc.  Don't just skip the trial for the veterans and act like it didn't happen.  The events weren't even mentioned in the demo past the "the ???? you've done".

Well, I hope the trial reappears, I would've had fun with it. But if not, well I won't be hurting for its loss. *loves the demo intro*

It's controlled chaos though, ME2 was really the same way. There are little trickles while you run from giant death machines which would obviously be chaotic yet focused in the purpose of getting the heck out of there. From there you can introduce the backstory but trying to compress the narrative of the past game or two into five or so minutes at the top of the game is going to turn a lot of people off of the game.
