Every piece of dialogue in the Earth & Mars missions is in the demo's audio files, including the ride from Earth to Mars, and all the way to the end of that mission. Can't discuss specifics due to spoilers, but there is nothing there that explains anything.
and how about Mars to Citadel?
The intro to ME2 was in three parts as well....
I know. Nothing will convince you. It's okay. I've given up with you. Just posting that info for other people who are interested.
Nevermind the fact this is where the game slows down, which allows for development of what came before...think about it. Earth, action...to Mars, action....to the Citadel, "town world". The game slowed down in ME2 after Freedom's Progress as well as getting to the Citade in ME1.
Face it, fans are being impatient and jusging off of what they do not know.

I think that's totally true about some people. However, as we have discussed here ad nauseum, people are entitled to judge what they have been given pre-release. It's how we decide whether we want to purchase the game or not.

Again with the comments about everyone here must be "wrong", at this stage be honest with yourself you are not here to debate your just here to argue. What difference does it make to you whether or not some people are upset or disappointed by this specific element of the game for which on the whole will probably be a very good game in other areas?
If your happy with what you got why are you here attacking others who simply would of gained more enjoyment had their preference been met which due to not being so simply are voicing disappointment that was not the case.

Wow.
To be perfectly honest, I've been able to ignore a lot of BS about ME3--the Origin EULA, "action" mode stuff (that has absolutely no place in an RPG). But this is the last straw. It seems to me they've removed crucial exposition and RPG elements to make ME3 a (fairly generic) shooter, with very little player interaction. All of my enthusiasm for this game has completely evapporated.
Oh wait, did you hear about STORY MODE which is the opposite of ACTION MODE....or that Bioware said there will be more dialogue in the final product....or that therew was more customization options for powers and weapons than the last game....
Keep on whinin' about nothing.

I know this is pointless, but this is just so far from reality, I had to try to inject a little bit.
Number one, in ME 1, the game "slowed down" well before the citadel. In fact, the game "slowed down" immediately after the opening cinematic.
In ME 2, again, the game "slowed down" to allow exposition before you even left for Freedom's Progress. In fact, it slowed down to allow for exposition in the middle of the combat tutorial with Jacob and Miranda, so...
Find another set of "examples" to twist, because that dog won't hunt.

They probably wanted to start the demo at the exciting part of the story. After all it's a space opera not an ace attorney game...although court room drama in space, I'd play or watch that.
You mean they wanted to start the game at that point.
And that's understandable. The problem here isn't them wanting to open up with a hook and excitement; the problem is in the execution.
They absolutely butchered it to the point that it is so contradictory and nonsensical, the game would have been better served to have just opened up with the scene with the defense committee and the resulting attack and not attempted at all to show or explain why Shepard was being detained.

And however, it is illogical to even base an opinion off the intro without seeing the full story. In storytelling, many stories flesh out the intro. Storytelling 101.
Guess they are entitled to be illogical.

Wrong, ME1 truly slows down on the way to the Citadel.
ME2's opening was an irratically paced that finds consistancy in pacing only after getting teh Normandy.

ME1 does in fact slow down after the oprning cinematic. You can wander around the CIC and talk to people. There is no sense of urgency. The difference in ME3 being that the only time you control Shepard completely is during combat.
Also, to go back to an earlier point, do you really believe that people need to buy the game and see the whole story before they can decide whether the game is worth buying? Isn't that a little bit ureasonable?

As we seem to point out five times a day in this thread, yes they have taken it out. The intro in the demo is the same as the opening of the game. A polite welcome to you. Handshakes all around.

it doesn't slow down narratively which is done after Eden Prime.
for storytelling , yes, for gameplay judgements, no....and sometimes even gameplay in demo doesn't paint the full picture, it just paints a better picture of what the game is like than judging the story from a demo.

If that is the case, then they have released a bad demo. The purpose of a demo is to give us a glimpse of what the game will be like. If what we see doesn't impress us, then we may or may not decide to purchase the game. I stress again, THIS IS THE POINT OF A DEMO.
So no matter what you think of people's complaints, they are valid. Bioware gave us this demo to help us make up our minds. I'm sure they don't mind why people do just that. Niether should you.

Unfortunately so.
The reasoning behind it is all open to speculation since noone from Bioware is willing to step up and comment, but...
Best guess at a working theory seems to be that it was cut to get players into the game faster (as EA's CEO told investors steps were being taken to reposition ME to reach a "broader market opportunity" than ME 1 & ME 2 ever began to approach), and to keep from alienating new players who might not understand the game starting with resolutions from ME 2.
After all, Bioware and EA have both said they intend for ME 3 to be the perfect "entry point" for new players to the series. Why bother them with all the baggage and backstory from two 50+ hour titles they never touched....

and yet there are just some things you cannot judge from a demo...a glimpse does not make a game.
You can criticize the demo for what it does storywise, but its illogical to criticize the full game at this point in time, which many are doing. You just do not know how the intro works in relation to the full game.

Not everyone had their Shep reinstated as Spectre.txgoldrush wrote...
And actually the trial would open or has opened a plothole...why would the human alliance try him considering he is a Council Spectre..its the CITADEL COUNCIL that should be trying Shepard, like they did Saren. As a Spectre, he is no longer has to answer to the Alliance.
To be honest though, I think this is just one of the many times where it doesn't matter what decision you made in the game, Bioware will rewrite it to so that it fits the overall plot they are trying to achieve. It's just like with the decision to make Anderson the Council member over Udina. In the end, he resigns anyway so that he can take part in the Reaper invasion on Earth.
Bioware is just giving us the illusion of choice.
