Yeah. A Google search for them showed them going for $69 on Big Bad Toy Store, but as someone mentioned the page for them is down. The google result still shows though.
I need that Garrus yesterday.
Unfortunately Big Bad Toy Store has jacked up the prices on Kai figures recently. I don't know why, but it is what it is.
Still no word on why so many e-tailers have teken down the listings for these.
My theory on this is that if you look at a photo of the display case you'll see that it says 'pending licensor approval' on it. My guess is that currently they have yet to have officially recieved the 'go ahead' by Bioware or whoever else is the licensor to go into mass production.
Most of those sites probably put up the pre-order thing then realized that exact same problem. They probably realized it wasn't a good idea to let people put up money for something that at present is still in the protoype stage and could be months away from being made or (unlikely) never get released at all.
That said I think it's ridiculously unlikely that Bioware
wouldn't approve these figures. If they approved of the DC direct action figures that got stuck in development hell for several months, approved of Dark Horse making the models of the Normandy (the first lot of which were badly painted, admittedly the one I got for my birthday looks very nice), let Kotobukia have the license to turn Liara (and eventually all their female characters) into sexed up anime versions of themselves, licensed the creation of the inflatable omni-blade and allowed the publishing of a book riddled with continuity errors, I can't think of
any logical reason why they would suddenly decide that
now they won't give the license to Play Arts Kai.
Fact is, these figures are incredibly good quality. Hell I'd buy them as they are now in prototype stage for full price. They managed to get even the tiniest details right, the shine on Ashley's hair, the tiny scars on Garrus's face and the little details on Shepard's armor. They are
amazing looking and they would sell really well. New fans and old fans would go nuts on them and given that they would also get sold in Japan they would hit an international market too. Each one would go for a big price as well. I can't think of a logical reason why a licensor wouldn't want all that scratch kicking around.
My guess is that the reason the sites haven't committed to anything yet is because the licensor hasn't yet either. Maybe Bioware is holding off for a while or Square Enix is adding some finished adjustments (like fixing Shepard's face). That said I have found at least one site that still has them on pre-order and says that they would ship on the third quarter of 2012 so I'll post that:
http://www.cmdstore....ies-ashley.htmlSo it's possible a date has been established but there hasn't been any official announcement. Which, if that's true would be odd. The other thing that makes me hopeful is that if there had been a cancellation,Square Enix would have mentioned it, surely. Likewise Bioware would have made a big deal if it had accepted it, so I'm guessing things are still on the fence somewhat. But like I said I can think of no logical reason why Bioware
wouldn't license a whole bloody series of these.
Thing is, I really, really,
really want these three figures. In ranking order of importance, Ashley, Garrus then Shepard. Because these are my favorites in Mass Effect 3 currently. Myself, my love interest and my alien sidekick. I want them like crazy to the point where I would forgo all other purchases for the rest of the year if it gave them to me. So I'm kind of anxious as well and would really like some kind of information from Bioware one way or the other and not so much suspense.
I will say that if I get these and my resolution for Mass Effect 3 the way I want it (or close enough) I will be set for life in regards to this franchise and never go wanting for anything else. That said if Bioware really DO decide not to give these approval and push them away (as again unlikely as that is) it would cement to me finally that Bioware really have no idea what they are doing business wise and that they really care not for their fans.
If these get made, then I will continue to love Bioware and may even forgive them for a lot. That's why I really am hoping for some kind of confirmation.
Anytime now guys...:innocent:
