Did the start of the game (demo) feel really abrupt to anyone else here?

It may only be part of the beginning. But, it doesn't feel as abrupt if you were to play ME2 and 3 back-to-back.
Yeah, the ending of two and the start of 3 really don't fit together well.
Shepards on the Normandy at the end of 2, then all of a sudden he's in some tiny grey room in some random building at the start of 3. Felt reeeally strange

I'm also hoping I get my day in court with my dress blues on like Hackett said.

That's what happens when you remove spoilers from the demo

Past Mass Effect openings were also rushed but you had the sense of urgency present (Collector Ship attack, and THEN it's like MOVEMOVEMOVE). With Earth, before the Reapers even show up, everyone is hurrying up, Shepard is there randomly, they don't recall how he got there unless the player played Arrival and can connect the dots, he acts quite buddy-buddy with James even though you don't ever see him actually speaking to him in Conviction, yadda-yadda. Seems a bit unpolished to me.
In other words, yes, I agree it is quite messy/more confusing and rushed than previous entries. Some of the dialog, especially from the Admiralty Board/Defense Committee or whatever, is just... cringe-worthy lol. BUT, that's just my opinion.
I will officially judge once the game is actually out, and give BioWare the benefit of the doubt. The demo has to be small in size so there is a very big chance they cut plenty of cool stuff out. They definitely removed a chunk of Sur'kesh. Dunno about Earth, though.

And no, you're not the only one. Far from it, in fact. But I doubt the demo is the beginning of ME3.

Who knows, maybe in the final game it will be more elaborate and what not.

Yessss
I liked in ME2 how they had the Miranda/IM bit before the collector ship attack, it set everything up much better and carried the tone of the game.

That's a terrible way of going about it. Comics shouldn't be required reading.G3rman wrote...
Not really, I like how it throws you into it. A comic is supposed to detail how Vega meets Shep IIRC.
