Did the start of the game (demo) feel really abrupt to anyone else here?

Hey, the usual suspects have a vendetta against the demo for ME3. They're the same clowns who praise Lagrim as the greatest when it isn't even close to being good. It's only fair that Dullrim gets ripped into as well if they feel the need to dissect a demo and claim it as a mess/nail in BW's 'coffin'.

I uh, I guess so. I don't know. I didn't really like Skyrim either but I haven't paid enough attention to what BSN thought of it to form an opinion like this.

i just got done playing it and it didn't feel rushed, what it felt like to me was that a lot of content was left out, there was a lot of dialogue that seemed like it was auto-dialogue but that if it had not been a demo i would've been able to choose what i wanted to say

this is the "shortest" begining when you compare it to Eden Prime and Lazurus Station . . . that tells me that they cut a lot of content for spoiler reasons, i was concerned at first until i started playing it myself, Youtube videos just didn't convey the pace that i wanted to go at and it seemed to short for an "intro"

Except nothing has been cut.

The beta tells us this. The text leaks tell us this. All signs indicate this is it and my link to another user's conversation with Priestly ought to confirm it for you.

well then that's disappointing, i didn't read the leaks so i have no idea about the story

Was not abrupt for me. But that's because I've played the first 2 games. I already know about the reapers, what they're capable of, what they want to do to us, etc. There was no need to explain it all again in great length in the intro. Was looking forward to having my deeds throughout the first 2 games talked about in the trial but it's no big deal if that doesn't happen in the full game, at least to me.

The Earth portion itself is about 30-40 minutes
The normandy bit plus Lazarus station is around the same time.

Mars is more like Freedom Progress since you get put right into those locations

How do you know this?

It's not just BSN. When Lagrim gets praise and GOTY awards for being riddled with bugs and gameplay/lore inconsistencies while ME3 gets trashed on for having similar flaws, you know something is warped in their perception of what a good game is.

I loved the beginning, and it didn't feel rushed. Playing vanguard and infiltrator will be incredibly fun, and I can't wait for the full game :)

Of course, round here, praise may get me called a biowh*re, but I don't care.

most people dont care

i know i dont

Develop an opinion on it then? It's really a yes or no situation, not really that hard.

"most people don't care"

What is that "most people"? Most the people in the world? Most the people that will play the game? Most of the die-hard fans? I don't get it.

I think this is an unfair generalization.

I myself play both "Lagrim" and ME. And I think they both have their pros and cons.

Both ES and ME are fantastic series of games and make no mistake some of the best modern games out there atm.

The only reason I started this thread was to point out how something ME normally does very well (pacing) felt rather off in this demo.

There were also things that were off when I played Skyrim, and I made a stance of pointing those out at the time aswell.

It's called feedback.

Where is ME3 getting trashed? is not released yet.

Shouldn't there be an answer to the whole auto dialogue thing in the script? I haven't read it but surely the dialogue choices must be in there.

Oh, there is. There's a considerable amount of dialogue wheel choices in the leaked script in the Earth portion of the demo, or at least that's what I've been told.

And then again, there's this:

I remember listening to an audio commentary where the speaker mentioned that fans objected to a joke because the person who said the joke had referenced events that happened while he was away. Of course, they said that there was plenty of time in which that character could have been told about said event off-screen, but since the viewer didn’t see that interaction take place, it’s like it never happened.

That’s basically what I’m seeing here, at least in regards to certain complaints, specifically Shepard and Vega being buddy-buddy. We know Vega guarded Shepard, but since we never saw any interaction between the characters in the time that the guarding took place, a friendship never formed, apparently. Personally, what I saw in the demo didn’t really look like a friendship, anyway.

In regards to the opening, it reminds me a lot of the opening to Mass Effect. Starting with conversation with off-screen characters as the camera focuses on another scene, and then zipping down to Shepard, where the Commander, Anderson, and more watch video footage of an attack. Granted, ME3’s opening does feel more frantic than ME’s, but it should be given the circumstances.

ya know it seems really funny how some people on here seem to have already forgotten that immediately after earth you go to Mars. Strangely enough that little tidbit of information was out of the demo.

After having playing the demo multiple times, I honestly don't believe this is the full introduction to ME3.

Also, with the intro dialogue, I'm sure that what we saw was a form of a placeholder/demo-dialogue. I'm expecting there to be much more "story" in it, by that I mean events and results of the past two games. Probably mentioning saving/killing council, and collectorbase/cerberus.

What is the relevance of this exactly?

yeah exactly my point...Anderson tells you to go to Mars on earth, that clearly wasn't in the demo so it's clearly not the whole intro.

All I know is I haven't played the demo.... I am looking forward to it even though I see so many ****ing on here. If it is the final cut so be it... if not; I look forward to whatever else that may be in store for me in the beginning.

I'm hoping that there will be extra content for imported characters.

Right now, ME3 intro is just like ME1 intro, where you start on a ship and seems to know everyone on that ship.  This is really good for new players, since they can assume that Shep know these people.  That's how ME1 players got to know Kaidan.

However, it is a disconnect for ME2 players, who get confused precisely because they know too much--"hey, MY shep doesn't know that guy (James), what the heck?".

I have to say that the devs put lots of effort into making this game accessible to new players.  But it seems that that came with a cost to long-time fans.

i see vega just like i saw kaidan back in me1

simple as that no need for any backstory in the intro (obviously you learn more from him in the normandy)
