then you don't understand Japanese culture, they don't "lower women", the Japanese highly respect women in their societies since the mother is the "foundation of all families" . . . all societies "objectify" women . . . the only Japanese culture we know of in the West is typically male-oriented (anime, video games, porn) but that isn't ALL of Japanese culture, ppl have a very biased and mostly uninformed view of the Japanese

Please. I have Japanese friends, I have friends who have lived in Japan and I've wasted away hours investigating their modern culture.

Aspects of their culture are fine sure, even admirable, their views on women however are absolutely disgusting. Not all Japanese may share these views but it's a common belief throughout Japanese culture that needs to be exterminated.

Next time you're in Japan flick on a T.V and I'm sure you won't see a tough, intelligent woman completely secure in her independance.

a little blurb from the Human Rights Examiner

////Unlike the numerous international treaties that the country willingly agreed to in the past, a legislation that protects the rights of a wife from her husband’s abuse is practically nowhere to be found. In 1985, Tokyo district court denied a woman’s request for divorce on the grounds that her husband forced her to have sexual intercourse. Instead, the court upheld that “it is no way illegal for a husband to demand sexual intercourse form a wife, nor does a wife have any rights to deny such a request.” In 1986, the same court denied another woman’s request seeking divorce on the grounds of her husband’s frequent rape. The court, instead held that “the husband had a right to force sexual intercourse and that the wife was at fault for not assuming her legal duty as a wife.”
Sexism in Japanese culture is therefore considered as a widely accepted custom rather than a serious social dilemma. While 70 percent of the interviewees during the survey of a man’s magazine answered that they had forced their wives to have sex, “no precedents exist in Japanese law stating that forced sex in marriage constitutes rape."////

Not gonna say that those things haven't cropped up in the US or other Westernized countries, but Japan is still pretty sexist, I mean of Japan's top 500 companies, women account for less than 1 percent of executives, compared with 10 percent in America and the U.K ..

Just adding a little fuel to the fire... and GO!

apparently not to all the ppl arguing with me, ppl who know nothing about a culture always assume they know everything about it b/c "they have friends who are Japanese or black or mexican"

AKB48 is your example of "strong, independant women" ?

That's ****ing hilarious.

Look dude, I get it, you're asian. That doesn't mean you have to defend everything within an asian culture.

I know because I read about it extensively, formed an opinion on it and then directly asked people who have first hand experience and knowledge of the culture so I could either confirm what I had thought or give me new insight.

That's the type of person i am.

You think sexism disappears over night? ooookk:whistle:

Also, that stat on the top 500 companies is recent.. just sayin. Japan, within the industrialised/Westernized world is one of the least fair towards women concerning employment..

Aaanndd, it's not racism I'm fueling, Japan is a country, not a race and their culture isn't a race either..

ok then your fueling bigotry torwards the Japanese

sexism might not "disappear" overnight but it does improve, i never said that sexism doesn't exist in Japan, I said ppl need to stop have biased, bigoted (and possibly racist) views on the Japanese

I find it funny how poeple rage and rave agaisnt a "asianis-ed" FemShep.

Yet, half the ME comics and art on the internets is drawn in tons of different stlyes, many of them anime-ish. Hypocrisy? Racism? Stupidity?
Take your pick.

Oh, BSN, you amuse me so!

It works on so many levels too!

Liaras boobs too big? No problem! 5 decreasinly smaller dolls later - PRESTO! Itty bitty liara doll! Try saying her boobs are too big now!

Does your FemShep not fit on your ikea self mounted wall shelf due to a height issue? No problem! Just pop her open until you find the size that fits!

Its that simple!

Now if you call in the next fiteen minutes.....

I've yet to see any 'racist' views towards the japanese here. I've only pointed out the gross level of sexism that exists within their culture and you've chosen to have a knee jerk reaction and call racist.

It's really quite ridiculous. 100 years ago countries that were primarily caucasian held views that I'd define as disgustingly sexist

I guess that means I'm racist towards white people too.

No, not the country, it's culture.

E.g) Ancient Athenian Culture was sexist. 19th century American culture was racist, etc etc.
