*Comes back from self-imposed BSN exile*
If BioWare wants to convince me to buy their merchandise, they're not doing a very good job.

It's kind of shameful that the very second character they've decided to Bishojou up is going to be the most prominent female icon of the franchise. That Male Shepard gets two actual proper action figures (one made by play arts) but the first and possibly only iteration FemShep will get is a sexualized statue.
I mean talk about polar opposite gender politics.
That said, maybe after the sh*tstorm that happened last like Kotobukya have actually learned their lesson. You never know, the FemShep statue could look pretty without also looking like jailbait. She could also still retain some level of strength in her pose and posture. Though I admit this is highly unlikely.

Hey, if the figure doesn't have a creepy baby face on top of an elongated, fragile looking body, with ginormous boobs and a prominent wedgy, and it *does* look like the ingame model, I'll be glad to be wrong.

But looking at any of Kotobukiya's past Bishoujo figures, this is just going to be sad.  Funny, but also sad.

I'm not even joking. Japanese culture looks down upon women. They expect all women to be submissive and lesser than the men. It's a teriible situation. They can't accept strong, independant women. Only, "Beautiful Young Girls" who swoon at your every word and do housework like all good women. Japan is Femenist Hell! They may have shiny robots but are backwards in many respects. I don't even think this game sells all that well in Japan.

That's a shallow way of looking at it and it ignores the fact she is as capable and equal to sheploo. I think that outweighs any image of her with a bit of cleavage showing to be honest...

If you being serious, that's such a naive viewpoint, it actually makes me feel really sorry for you. ALL cultures look down on women in some form or another, I don't think it's fair to call out one.

err by the fans suprisingly.   Sheploo is a character modelled on an underwear model as well.   Its however also irrelevant.   The point is that compared to most of the female protagonists out there she isnt at all overly sexualised and her "female assets" are not made a focus. This is part of her appeal.

I quite like the Kotobukiya figures, but im struggling to get the logic behind doing a femshep model as centauri points out because of past examples.   They are capible of creating impressive models though, so I hold hope that Bioware will put their footdown on her and give a clear image of what the fans want.   There is potential here to go great or horribly wrong...

So if you're religious you're also insane? Oh wait I forgot that every person who follows a religion is an idiot and all atheists have 150+ IQs. Though it's quite strange that numerous people who believed in God were also great innovators while there has also been many people who were atheists and were also great innovators. That seems to suggest that belief of a deity does not equal lack of intelligence but no you're obviously right random guy trolling a game forum. I should bow down to your superior intelligence.

By the way in case your IQ didn't reach triple (or maybe even double in your case) digits I was being sarcastic.

Does it have to be "Bishoujo"? What we can't have a statue of a strong female character until she's turned into a big boobed lust object for japano-philes (I dare them to actually visit Japan, their behavior will get them tossed in jail). I mean the term means "Beautiful Young Girl" for christ sakes! She's not some college going bimbo you nimrods! She's a Space Marine! She's a Woman! Oh right, you couldn't handle a real woman could you? Not to mention that it is a well known fact that Japanese men tend to be overworked & sexually frustrated (look it up) which in turn makes this Bishoujo trend more prevalent in their country

I really thought that next step is obvious and they'll get provocatively posing statue of character who gets most of unfortunate camera shots ingame - Jacob Miranda. Why femShep, because it's the end of series and this will be a "memo"?

That's amusing. At very least this will be "so bad it's good" and I'll laugh at this portrayal, at most it will be nice statue of femShep - amusing anyway.

Still waiting for "bi-whatever-nen" Wrex and Legion.

Why do people even whine about this stuff? By the end of the month nobody will remember the doll or the slightly sexualized femshep of that trailer from last week. I don't know why I'm even still reading this topic.

I may be exaggertaing and ranting a bit but in Japan it is a serious problem because they are a developed nation and a world power. Educated, hard working people but they have a rather rigid HIGH CONTEXT culture that makes certain things obvious. People say America has a glass ceiling for working wowmen, it's worse in Japan. Sure many countries are backwards in terms of women's rights but they are mosyly developing and poorer nations. Japan is unique in that it's a world power.

Less trolling more Exaggeration and getting angry at the smaller things
FemShep is a fictional charecter and has no rights but Fiction often provides for inspiration & motivation for people
We speak of how Superman is a good role model for boys that teaches them hard work, respecting your elders and all the boy scout stuff. Now would you think it appropriate if Superman were depicted wearing a gimp suit in a playboy magazine? That is what they have done to FemShep.

Remember how people got angry when the kid friendly and little girl role model Starfire (DC Comics) was turned into a sexpot in the recent comics? Same thing.

Conversely, I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but just expressing my thoughts
However, why BISHOUJO specifically? Why not just a regular statue without some label attached to it?

A BIT? You sound like a ****ing lunatic. No wonder most men can't take majority of women seriously. My father has worked and lived in Japan, women have the opportunity to do whatever they want, just like in the Western World. The only person stopping a lot of women are themselves in majority of cases.

If they want to go ahead and do a pinup of Fem!Shep, lemme go ahead. You see stuff far worse than that on 4chan anyway. People are overreacting about this, just like the Liara one.

It's a matter of taste. There is rule 34 of everything including the kitchen sink but then you have to look for those
This is an actual product being displayed (sold?) and comes off as crude & crass.
And as far as Japan is concerned... well it depends on which part you are... but leave that.
Replace FemShep with say... Princess Jasmine... I could imagine an uproar

As some sort of a feminist myself, I understand sexualizing happens to both genders in reality and I'm fine with that for now.

But making 30 year olds look like a 12 year old, that I can't tolerate.

Thank you. This was my point. Bishoujo means "Beautiful Young Girl"
What they only have 12 year old girls in Japan? No women?
Or are you telling me they can't accept women heroes?
Is the purpose of this statue tiltilation?

That's cute, you've never actually seen Princess Jasmine sexualised? They have entire SITES dedicated to that, $40 for a month, I had a male roommate who had a custom made Ariel figurine in nothing but her seashell bra doing a crab walk.

Shepard, regardless of gender, is GOING to get sexualised and that sexualisation is GOING to get sold, regardless. There's nothing even CONFIRMING that her statue WILL be sexualised or even if this is the ONLY statue we will recieve of her.

And by the way? Region doesn't mean crap in Japan, and even if it did, if you want to be a doctor but your 'region' won't hire you solely based on sex, what the hell are you still doing there?

Everyone knows Japanese men love the ladies young and small... Look at anime for example too. But that is a whole different subject.

Beautiful Young Girl suddenly means 12 years old now?
