It's a matter of taste. There is rule 34 of everything including the kitchen sink but then you have to look for those
This is an actual product being displayed (sold?) and comes off as crude & crass.
And as far as Japan is concerned... well it depends on which part you are... but leave that.
Replace FemShep with say... Princess Jasmine... I could imagine an uproar

That's cute, you've never actually seen Princess Jasmine sexualised? They have entire SITES dedicated to that, $40 for a month, I had a male roommate who had a custom made Ariel figurine in nothing but her seashell bra doing a crab walk.

Shepard, regardless of gender, is GOING to get sexualised and that sexualisation is GOING to get sold, regardless. There's nothing even CONFIRMING that her statue WILL be sexualised or even if this is the ONLY statue we will recieve of her.

And by the way? Region doesn't mean crap in Japan, and even if it did, if you want to be a doctor but your 'region' won't hire you solely based on sex, what the hell are you still doing there?

Yes but I was talking about actual public display and sales causing an uproar
Imagine if Comic Con had an entire section dedicated to selling Rule 34 paintings & statutette's
You don't think anyone wouldn't notice? Would't there be a public outcry?

And? The difference between Shepard and Princess Jasmine, is that Shepard is in a game that is designed and targetted for young men, over the age of 15. Princess Jasmine was designed for 5 - 10 year old girls. See the leap? I see nothing wrong with Shepard getting that figurine

And yeah, they'll be public outcry, there's ALWAYS public outcry. As far as I'm concerned, the public can take their outcry and shove it where the sun don't shy. <_<

I think you are selling the series a bit short. I would say it is aimed at adult science fiction fans who enjoy deep stories and engaging charecters. The fans are more Star Trek than Star Wars. Not to mention unlike Princess Leia and her infamous bikini slave outfit, FemShep is or at least I hope is intended as a strong and mature role model for young women and maybe some males. There is not one scene in the series where she is depicted in a tiltilating manner. So official products should keep up with that. I understand the love interests but Shepard herself?

Or maybe I am overly sensitive to this stuff...

Also, why Bishoujo?

...You're overly sensitive and I stick to my ****ing lunatic story. Why else do you think Fem!Shepard was NEVER fully acknowledged or marketted until ME3? The series was markettly TARGETTED for young MEN, aged between 15 - 25 with enough of a broad spectreme in the game to accept female players. STAR TREK, was marketted towards the same group, young MEN.

That's how it started out, it's clearly diveraged enough that Mass Effect has a strong female fan basis, Shepard is a well versed role model and wonderful character, but I still see nothing wrong with the sexualisation of her that happens anyway.

And why Bishoujo? Why not? Again, we have recieved NO confirmation that this'll be the only figurine that's made of her and there is NOTHING WRONG with Shepard assuming her feminity a bit.

Baseless asumption. I meant the series is more Star Trek. Smart sci-fi as opposed to fantasy sci-fi
When I say smart I mean that everything in the series has a researched and well developed background
You have Element Zero and the Mass Effect. You then have an entire detailed universe made around it
By comparison Star Wars is more... look.. Jedi Magic!

Star Wars = The car runs because of the engine
Star Trek = The car runs because the internal combustion engine burns fuel to power the pistons

Bascially Star Trek is more long winded, heavy handed and explanatory. Also, alien sex

I would be more optimistic if another company was creating her.

I really love that Bioware are going to the effort of doing this. Im just hesitant at the moment because of the logic jump.  We all know what Kotobukiya's do and what the Bushoujo line involves.   It works for some figures.  Just not sure for FemShep yet.

I mean something like this would be great.   Fortunately FemShep wears strong armour so thats a good start.  Im more concerned about her pose.   Kotobukiya Statues always exaggerate.

Note; She is always going to look "appealing" better to accept that now. I just want her to look like a Soldier primarily and fit the image we have of her first and foremost

What lesson? People get offended when you sexualize fictional charecters? PFFT!
I want to see some Hermoine Granger and Ellen Ripley BISHOUJO satutes!
I bet the fans would love them.

Less trolling more Exaggeration and getting angry at the smaller things
FemShep is a fictional charecter and has no rights but Fiction often provides for inspiration & motivation for people
We speak of how Superman is a good role model for boys that teaches them hard work, respecting your elders and all the boy scout stuff. Now would you think it appropriate if Superman were depicted wearing a gimp suit in a playboy magazine? That is what they have done to FemShep.

Remember how people got angry when the kid friendly and little girl role model Starfire (DC Comics) was turned into a sexpot in the recent comics? Same thing.

Conversely, I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but just expressing my thoughts
However, why BISHOUJO specifically? Why not just a regular statue without some label attached to it?

Not the same thing. Starfire the "kid friendly and little girl role" was based on the "sexpot" Starfire from the 1980's. If anything, the revamped version is taking Kori back to her roots, before the whole muppet babies thing. A minor point, but I couldn't let it go. Sorry.

FemShep - a character who has been praised for the fact that she isn't over-sexualised.

By whom?
Femshep is still a supermodel playing soldier.

err by the fans suprisingly.   Sheploo is a character modelled on an underwear model as well.   Its however also irrelevant.   The point is that compared to most of the female protagonists out there she isnt at all overly sexualised and her "female assets" are not made a focus. This is part of her appeal.

Meh...
Bioware made a proper warrior woman once....Aveline. She wasn't that popular. Probably because she had strong arms, was more "butch" so to speak....an didn't have a tiny waist.

Femshep still looks like a sumpermodel - not like a solider.
She might not be overly sexualized, but she still is a pretty girl first.

but whatevz. I don't care about the statue. If somoene want's it, let them have it. It's not like there isnt' fan art a billion times more horrible than anything they can make.

It's a pitty - Avenline is equal first in my all time favourite BioWare characters. She was fantastic.

The Japanese prime ministers need to stop visiting Yasukuni Shrine, own up to what Unit 731 did and the issue of Comfort Women, and that would do a lot to ease tensions between them and Korea/China.

All the ''Femshep is somehow a role model for young women'' crap is getting old. Shepard is in no way a role model for anyone. This is an adult sci-fi game, not an educational school video. Nobody needs to be encouraged to pick up a gun and start shooting at people.

Shepard the female role model... right killing people is a good example.

Better to look to the adventure genre. Games like Gray Matter, Longest Journey... you know, the kind which doesn't involve lots of guns.

And yet the series has been a staple of liberal ideas. Race and sexual orientation have been dealt with in a respectful and progressive manner and I'm certain that there are people here who are thankfull for it.
So, if we're so damn serious on these issues (even though some cry that 'its a game !' ), then why can't we treat genders equally ?!

Either give me a sex'ed up, half naked MaleShep to even the odds, or respect the female players and stop shooting yourselves in the foot !

I agree, Mass Effect series is atleast originaly mainly targeted for young men. Now others are finding it too.
