Okay I tried uisng the mass effect tools method to get a code and everything works up until I try to upload the YAML file. I keep hitting the button to upload it but it just sits there, anybody have any suggestions?

IE9 sort of demands site devs to recompile their jQuery lib specifically to work with IE9.

My own endeavors ran into that problem and we just said screw it "Use Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Opera/Mozilla".

Wow, I really like your FemSheps! Would you be willing to share face codes for them?

I imported from ME1 to ME2 on 360. I made a couple of small tweaks to try to correct for changes that occurred on import and had a face code w/ my main Shep once I started playing the game. It's how I recreated him on the PC version before I found the process for importing 360 save games.

You don't get one in the CC, but as mentioned previously you can import, go through the opening bits and go to the squad screen immediately after waking up at Lazarus Project and grab the face code from the upper left region of your character screen.

I tried this method but some things weren't right. I imported into ME2 to compare the two and tweak her to normal. Of note: wrong hair color, cheek bones and ears orientation. Also had to manually select my complexion, iris color, nose, hairstyle, brow color, and all makeup. Still, it got me a lot closer than trying to figure it out for myself did. I now have a code that is perfect in every respect but the eyes, though I had to tweak the brow color (again) for the demo.

Meh, I think you're all blowing this all out of proportion.

Its true that this glitch sucks, but we all know they will patch it, and even then take this into account:

The face and hair options in the first game were BLOODY SUCKY in the first place, and I was already upset enough that I wasn't able to alter said face on ME2 without having to start from scratch. I played the ME3 demo and was able to recreate the face of my shepard to perfection. Not only does it look identical to my original shepard face, it looks better in terms of geometry, texture, and hair.

Considering I had planned to edit the face of my shepard in the first place, GLITCH OR NO GLITCH, this doesn't really affects me at all.

Now, if the bug was that we can't import DECISIONS from the first game, or that said decisions were poorly imported (Like the conrad verner bug on ME2) THAT would be a source of concern. But as long as those are fine, then I don't really have a problem with this.

ME1 -> face code converter works close enough. Had to reset hair and some other stuff.

Playing through the game for about an hour last night just before bed I was not happy at all with how my Femsheps face imported. Didn't like it so much I'm going to go back and restart with an entirely new face. Jaw just looks wrong and skin complexion looked all wrong

Thank you for the explanation about using the ME2 saved game file Janus Prospero. It took me over two hours getting my main guy's face back when I could have been playing, but he at least looks like himself again!

Way to go, Bioware.

I came here to praise you Janus. My face did not import and my attempt to recreate was a fail. After I used your method my Shepard looks identical to my previous one. Thank you for saving ME3 for me man.

I barely managed to recreate mine with that method, but I'll be able to put up with what I've got if it isn't patched.

Still don't get why people are blowing this thing out of proportions. When it was released, Skyrim had more bugs than a 10$ prostitute, You even had to do a workaroud with some tools to COMPLETE THE FRIKKING MAIN CAMPAIGN. And that didn't prevented the game for being ABSURDLY FUN. To this day, nearly all the bugs have been fixed either by official patches, or fan-made patches.

Regardless of its MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY bugs, the point is that Skyrim is FUN. Quite posibly the BEST game of 2011 without a doubt. And a classic that will be remembered for AGES to come.

Now we got ME3, which as far as we know has 1 very VERY small bug that we can work around without much problem, I mean just look at this:

ME1
http://jamiecotc.com...aime/Jaime1.jpg
ME2
http://jamiecotc.com...aime/Jaime2.jpg
ME3
http://jamiecotc.com...e/Jaime_ME3.jpg

and yet some people are all like "BIOWARE SUCKS, I'M CANCELING PRE-ORDER"

"BIOWARE SUCKS, I'M NEVER BUYING THEIR GAMES AGAIN"

"THIS IS ALL EA'S FAULT, THOSE GREEDY BASTARDS"

/sighs....... gamers need to grow some damn balls. I remember the days when if a game was released bugged, it REMAINED bugged, forever. No official patches, no fan patches due to lack of internet, games were either good, or were not. If you wanted a bug fix you had to BUY THE GAME AGAIN in the future updated releases.

Now we got gaming companies that release games, and if the game is bugged, they release fix patches FOR FREE, so you can enjoy the game. And yet people whine. Come on kids, this IS NOT a game-breaking issue. Issues I'd have a problem with would be variable desicions from ME1 not importing correctly (Like Conrad Verner on ME2) or game crashing every 5 seconds, or voice-clips not working, or quests not triggering.

But having to spend a few extra minutes recreating your face is REALLY such a big deal? Skyrim had WAY WORST problems than that on release. Didn't stopped it from becoming the best friking game of this decade.

seriously, GET THE BROOMSTICK OUT OF YOUR BUTTS and enjoy the damn game.

I have the same problem with this same hair cut. It's been change in ME3. And its color looks more darker when you choose black colour.

Long Rant

Different people have different tastes. It doesn't bother you and I'm glad it doesn't. To some people, the face is just as much a part of the character as the decisions made by them. So please stop blowing this out of proportion when someone is passionate about something else.

Hey, thanks for the info Janus; however, the upload tool to get the face code will not work for me. Anyone else having this problem?

I love how the community at large has already devised a workaround for this, yet somehow BioWare/EA has yet to say or do anything about it. I have yet to attempt this myself. Right now I am just biding my time with multiplayer until they hopefully make an official patch.

I can't even get to the ME2 Save Editor site. Database error. Probably got crushed over the last couple of hours with everyone trying to fix BioWare's epic screwup.

Derah: Comparing this issue to Skyrim is comparing apples and oranges. Skyrim wasn't a continuation of a story that some people have invested several hundred hours into. People have developed a relationship with "their" Shepard, not an approximation. I spent about an hour in the ME1 character creator to get Shepard's face JUST RIGHT. Then I played that "perfect" Shepard through two rounds of ME1. Then 2 rounds of ME2 (and then edited to a different career so I could use that "perfect" Shepard in a different class that I am still playing through on Insanity.) That is hundreds of hours of looking at my "perfect" Shepard's face.

Not being able to continue the story to the end with "my" Shepard points to a developer screw-up of colossal proportions. This story was all about continuity. It's not continuity if I have to make an approximation of a face that has been driving the story for so long. For whatever reason, it doesn't bother you. Good for you. Go play your game. For a huge percentage of us, this is a big deal. Personally, I am able to see the subtle differences, and it completely blows my enjoyment of my game.

My script is far from perfect, and some faces seem to go outside the range of bluefall's numbers, so I didnt really know what to do for that. If the upload doesnt work, maybe I need to clean out the yaml files.

I think I found a bug in the male Shep version of the face code generator Janus linked. The hair and makeup values are out of order and one of the attributes is mislabelled. The order should be:
  • Hair (NOT calculated by the generator)
  • Beard (mislabelled as Brow Color, NOT calculated by the generator)
  • Brow
  • Hair color
  • Facial hair color (NOT calculated by the generator)
It's worth repeating that the generator does not compute all of the face code values. Don't just jump down to the bottom and copy the face code. Look through the list and make note of the fields that have "Choose Any" next to the value. Also, the scar value isn't used in the face code, and the iris color options aren't quite the same as in ME1.

Bluefall couldn't calculate all the face code values, so I just left those as 1. I guess I should put a bigger note or something to tell people they'll need to tweak those on their own.
