That means some of the face code values were outside the range that Bluefall gave in the guide, I'm not sure what to do about those. I guess maybe I should just make them default to 1 or the highest slider value if they go over.

What name did you use when you uploaded the file?

Generated code used in ME3 made a face almost identical to my Shepard (exept hair & eyebrows).

Meh, I think you're all blowing this all out of proportion.

They release a game and it has a serious glitch that they obviously could never have missed during testing. Basically all faces from ME1 can't be imported into ME3. I'm on X360 and I've never before had to mess around with saves and use any tools for modding.

I just want to pick up a game and play it, this is why I got a console in the first place. I've been messing around with this methode to generate a code for 3 hours now, I'm running into all kinds of issues: sites being offline, files not being recognized and codes being incompleet.

If they do release a day 1 patch than this isn't a big issue, but I doubt they will. It sounds more like damage control to me, considering not fixing this on release day will lead to a huge outrage (a well deserved one at that).

You might say Skyrim had all kinds of issues, but I've played it for 100+ hours and I have only ran into a few graphic bugs and it crashes about 5 times. This game isn't even officially out yet worldwide and it already has a more serious problem. For now people are definatly no blowing this out of proportion, EAware deserves full fury for this serious oversight and not the regular fan threatment, I think having too many loyal fans is starting to become bad for the level of quality in their games.

You have to make your upload name properly, mine did that too till i uploaded mine properly. do something simple like eternz2012.

My import messed up, but i suppose because its a save from me1...i just hope they fix it. This game would be perfect (at the moment) if not for this issue.

Not getting the hair was imo the most insulting, it defined my character, it also imported blonde, and his cheeks look like they have chestnuts in them like a squirrel

I think I found a bug in the male Shep version of the face code generator Janus linked. The hair and makeup values are out of order and one of the attributes is mislabelled. The order should be:

  • Hair (NOT calculated by the generator)
  • Beard (mislabelled as Brow Color, NOT calculated by the generator)
  • Brow
  • Hair color
  • Facial hair color (NOT calculated by the generator)
It's worth repeating that the generator does not compute all of the face code values. Don't just jump down to the bottom and copy the face code. Look through the list and make note of the fields that have "Choose Any" next to the value. Also, the scar value isn't used in the face code, and the iris color options aren't quite the same as in ME1.

Bluefall couldn't calculate all the face code values, so I just left those as 1. I guess I should put a bigger note or something to tell people they'll need to tweak those on their own.

I know, I was just reminding people that some of the values were not calculated.

The last 5 characters in the face code are out of order though, and there is no "Brow Color" slider. I assume that was beard style.

Also, this is a head morph from ME1, which may have something to do with it, I tried naming it like you suggested but still got the same results.

I did always find it whack that you couldn't see your face code if you imported your Shepard from ME1.

Now, I can only speak to the Xbox version, but those of you saying you can see your code even though you imported from ME1 may want to double check that code. There is a bug where if you import a ME1 Shep, then go to the customize face option, but then back out of it and accept the imported face, when the game starts it will show you a face code, but it will be for the customized shep you started to make, not the one you imported.

Now, there is actually a way to see your ME1 face code, but it takes some fancy computer maneuvers (especially if you're on the Xbox). You can skip steps 1-4 if you're on PC.

1) Format a USB flash drive in your Xbox.
2) Start up ME2 and create a new game by importing your ME1 Shep.
3) Go through the intro and when you wake up in Lazarus Base, save your game on the flash drive (or move it there later).
3) Back to your PC, pop in the flash drive and download Modio.
4) Using Modio, open up the save game file on the flash drive and export the .xbsav file to your hard drive.
5) Go to the ME2 Save Editor, register, and upload your .xbsav file (.pcsav file if you're on PC).
6) Click on the My Saves Tab, then the Morph Head button, then export the YAML file.
7) Go to the Mass Effect Tools upload page (Female | Male), give your Shepard file a name and upload your YAML file there.
8) Go to the Mass Effect Tools code generation page (Female | Male), enter the name you entered in Step 7 and the site will give you a list of all character creation slider tick settings for the ME2 CC (far left = 1) as well as a face code for ME2/ME3.

IMPORTANT: Note that the extract doesn't give you Complexion, Scars, Eye Color, Nose Shape, Hair Style, Brow Color, or Makeup for various reasons. But you can easily determine those by doing some comparisons with your imported Shep and a fresh one you've created. Nose shape was probably the hardest one. I had to take pics with my phone and compare them.

9) Now,  I personally would not take your code straight into ME3, because even if the code is correct, the ME3 face looks dissimilar enough that you might not be sure. At this point what I would do is start a new ME2 game with your ME1 import and at the character creator screen enter the code and tweak from there. The great part about this is you have your imported face there available, so you can compare it with what you have so far with the code.

If you're curious, the technical math behind the face codes can be found here.
-------------------

I did this earlier today so I could see how my Shep would look in ME3. (You'll have to forgive the crappy phone pics. My fiancee absconded with the camera).

ME2 Shep:

ME3 Conversion:

Now my initial gut reaction was, "OMG that doesn't look like her at all!" But truth be told, the charcater creation (and squad screen) isn't very flattering. Playing the demo with her and seeing her animated she looks a lot better and I can tell that she's my Shep.

The biggest difference is the hairstyle (obviously) but I like that it looks like hair and not plastic. The thing that kinda bothers me though is the hair color. My Shep has hair color code 5 which in ME1 and ME2 is equal parts red and brown. But in ME3 it is nearly completely brown. It is slightly reddish when the sunlight hit it in certain cutscenes. I tried giving her the full on red hair, but that didn't look quite right either. In the end I think I'm ok with this. In the game she looks great. And you know, sometimes people get different hair cuts and dye their hair. :D

Pretty darn close resemblence to my ME1/ME2 Shep!  Thanks a ton!  Time to kill some Reapers!

Man, thank you SO MUCH! Just finished ME1, gonna get ME2 done before I start on ME3, pre-loaded and everything, should be done with ME2 over the weekend and ready to game it up.

Trying to avoid spoilers but check if there were any issues with ME3 I checked the forum, this face thing really bummed me out :(

Your method above worked for me perfectly, at least in getting my ME1 face into ME2 EXACTLY as it was only using the 'Custom Face' option instead of the 'Import Face' one. Tried doing it manually but my guy always looked wrong, too wide cheekbones or dodgy neck/eyes/head shape :(

Figured it's best to do it this way as I don't wanna get to ME3 and have to rebuild it from memory if they haven't fixed the Import Face feature by then.

Thanks again, dude!

EDIT:- Initially I thought "this looks nothing like my guy!" when I input the code from the generator site mentioned above, but then after I changed the variables that weren't determined by it (Hair/Colour/Complextion) he looked EXACTLY like my Shepard. Just letting people know in case they put the code in and expect EVERYTHING to be right.

I tried it and unfortunately it did not transfer well into ME3. The face was to pudgy and squashed compared to the face in ME2. I tried messing with the sliders but it still didn't look right. I guess I'll just wait for them to patch it and see if that's better.

I'm fairly confident I could eventually get Shepards I was happy with, but will this issue ever be fixed? If so many assets are missing then that implies it was intended to be made that way, doesn't it?

If you manage to import your face and go to custom apperance, your face doesn't rest to the preset one's, it keeps everything in place for you to meddle with in the custom apperance option's. Basically, if your like me and you want to change your hair color or style, you can do that an not have to start form scratch.
