bugs i've ran into so far (Swashbuckler's hat)

Anyway, I've just gotten the swashbuckler's hat. It's supposed to provide a +2 bonus to diplomacy, but when I equip it no such bonus is shown in my skill list, it's the same figure. Is the bonus invisible? Or perhaps it is an undocumented element that it only works for swashbucklers? Or is it broken outright? Can't find anything on this when doing a search.

Edit: Ok that wasn't a bug, but here's one that's really getting on my nerves: once in a while kills will not award any exp. There seems to be no pattern to when it happens, either, so I just watch the text window like a hawk to make sure everything gives me exp.

The hat in the toolset is not bugged. There is no restriction that prevents it from working for anyone. One possibility is that skill bonuses only apply if you have at least 1 natural level in that skill. If you have 0 diplomacy before putting on the hat I'm not sure you will get the bonus.
Another possibility is that the hat was bugged when it was placed into the game module and corrected only in the toolset later. If that is the case then you can use the console to give yourself a new hat and it should work correctly. Click on your main person so that he/she is selected and then issue these commands to add a new hat into his/her inventory:
` (backtick)
debugmode 1
giveitem n2_helm_swashhat
debugmode 0
` (backtick)

I had this thought as well. The wiki (http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Skills) lists Diplomacy as not being one of the skills that requires training. So it should work even if you have not invested any points in Diplomacy.
I do not know what will happen if you have don't have any ranks in Diplomacy and a negative Charisma modifier such that you actually have negative total Diplomacy, though.
It's a weird issue, because skill bonuses usually show up fine on the character sheet, unless they are situational ones (like the Ranger's Favored Enemy bonus to Spot, etc.).

As Kaldor has suggested, a bit more specific information abut the issues you are having would help.
Also, please indicate if the installation you are using is fully patched; whether you are using any mods or haks; if you have installed only the OC, or have MotB and/or SoZ installed also.
Please understand that the vast majority of players do not experience the issues you seem to be experiencing, which might indicate it is an issue with your installation only - not the game itself.
Regards the 'missing xp for kills' issue. Does this happen when your PC is separated from your party? If so, it is a known issue with the distance of separation. The fix is to not allow the party to be separated.

I've never had any of those bugs (at least the specified ones), as others have said, is your game patched?

As far as I know the game is fully patched. It's the platinum edition, steam version. I assumed it automatically updated to the latest version, plus there are patch notes in the game's directory for the latest official patch. There's no updater executable though that I've seen mentioned.
Another possibility is that the hat was bugged when it was placed into the game module and corrected only in the toolset later.
I'm not sure what that means. But I launched the game now and the problem seems to have resolved itself. Can't understand how, it was unmistakably glitching when I last looked, with +7 diplomacy with and without the hat (it's +9 with hat now).

What like a corrupted file? I suppose it's possible, but none of the bugs strike me as that sort.
The bug I have to watch out for the most right now is the one where scripts fail to initialize. For instance I would save near the end of one of the attacking waves in the beginning of the main campaign (the bit where the village gets raided) and after slaying a couple of remaining monsters one of the NPCs should immediately start talking again to continue the storyline, but instead he just stands around forever and there are no hostile monsters on the map. Such has happened several times at various points in the storyline, and i've been playing the game for less than 2 days. I can ty and recreate the scenario and it will be 50/50 if the glitch happens or if everything goes normally.
The camera glitch just involves pushing the mouse to the edge of the screen in character mode, and it will every little bit of the turn (Think every ten minutes on the clock, rotating a 24 hour circle) it will do a little 'jump', rather than rotating smoothly. Everything looks pretty smooth running at all other times though, so I figure it's not a performance issue as such. I found a thread on this with a google search, but none of the fixes suggested worked (which were: use client extension, turn of far shadows, set processor affinity to 1 core). I was able to sort-of fix it by dropping both far and near shadows and textures an increment in the advanced gfx settings, but if I look closely when testing again I could still see jumps, just less abrupt, so it was more masking over the problem rather than eliminating it.
Edit: Just occured to me to insert my system specs here: i7 920, currently clocked at 3.2 ghz, gfx card is gtx 260, with latest drivers.
Yes I did eventually notice a pattern with the exp and the distance from the party. That's the kind of crap i'm talking about. How bone-headed does one have to be as a developer to miss such things. If I want to send off one of my party members solo I should be able to do that, so it's only a fix as you say if I have no such desire.
Edit: Just did a steam cache verification and it said afterward "Two files failed to validate and will be re-acquired". Hmm...
Edit: Bah, stupid. One of the "invalid files" was just the modified nwn2.ini file. Now I have to reconfigure everything.

About the scripts, I'll leave that to the experts, but I normally don't save/load in the middle of a battle, in this or other games.
And about the camera, exploration mode is vastly superior to the rest. Once it became available, I started to use it and never switched back, so I don't have experience with character mode, the only thing I can say is that, if you're going for playability, use exploration.
Steam should automatically patch your game to the last version, yes.

The problem with the game is you have to switch modes. You can't enjoy the character mode camera angles (if you prefer them) whilst being able to group-select people etc. I haven't touched exploration mode at all, but in strategy mode I find even with free roam camera turned on I cannot get the camera to stray far from the party or command them to move to a section of the map they aren't near to.
My other question would be why you are so far from the rest of your party instead of contributing in fights...
Because the larger the party, the more the weaker members become a liability, and it feels like i'm spending way more time micromanaging to protect my member's hides instead of overwhelming my enemy from the extra helping hands. Maybe I'm just lazy; I just end up shoving those weakest members to the side hoping they don't draw any enemies to them, keeping them out of the way so the tanks can do their job.
It also doesn't help that have an obsession for never allowing my party members to fall in battle. Right now I can just have the druid cast buffs on the dwarf and have him slaughter the whole level without difficulty (except when there are traps), or I can have my thief PC go in and cut everyone's throats without a sound, like i'm playing a stealth game. Feels cool to do that. But no, the game won't have it, at least if I want any exp.

Glad to hear the hat is working for you. You might try posting some of the issues you are having in the Steam forums since they may Steam related.

These are speculation, I never tried, but I think the only solution is to not save during the fight.

Anyone else having the game use up all the cpu? It seems to use at or close to 100% of a single core (spread among several cores). When an app tends to consume all cpu no matter how fast your cpu is, it is usually a bug rather than mere resource-hungriness (it enters a loop without any delays), and this seems to be one of those apps. Or maybe it is just that poorly optimized. It's the only game I have that allows me to turn my heater off in the cold weather because the revving of the cpu and gfx card fans heats the room up by itself.
Hmm, looks like this might be another bug (or not): If I pick open a certain chest I get a potion and some gold, whereas if I smash it, I get potion, gold, and a broken item!? I thought the potion was meant to turn into the broken item?
Another bug I've ran into a few times is character-state for npc's randomly changing. For instance after (spoiler?) leaves your party, one time instead of giving the normal dialog he was supposed to give he started talking about the wheat fields, which is a dialog from a much earlier part of the game. Had to load an earlier save to get his proper state back.
EDIT: noticed something about the vanishing scripts. It seems if I save the game during battle prior to a script that may vanish, one of two things happens upon reload (not with the same save): either i kill the remaining monsters and nothing happens, or the script launches immediately on reload even though there were some monsters left to kill...
