I'm wanting to create an all-female party but it looks like it is impossible.  I was hoping there might be a trick or something I am missing.  This is what I understand from studying the companions.  (minor spoilers)

If I play a warrior or rogue, I can take Bethany but I will eventually lose her, leaving me forced to take Anders for heals to the end of the game.

If I play a mage for heals, I lose Bethany for...the entire game.  I'm forced to take Aveline, deal with an annoying brother, and I can't have a full female party until I get Isabela.  Aveline will not like Isabela so much, but will tolerate her enough so that I can get the points to romance her eventually without losing Aveline.

Is this all correct? :( Is there any possibility I'm missing?

Not impossible at all! I've gone with an all-female party many, many times. You get Merrill and Isabela very early into the game, only after a few hours of gameplay, depending on which order you do the quests. Considering how long the game is, you can play most of it without a single y-chromosone in the party.  :P

Bethany is a mage you're going to lose after the first act anyway, so you'll have to take Aveline along at some point if you want a full party. Aveline may not seem to like Isabela much, but I think they grow a certain respect for each other over the course of the game - the banters they have hint at it, and Aveline will even invite her to her Solstice party and tells Hawke in act three that Isabela "isn't so bad".

While I love Anders, I agree you don't absolutely need him for heals. The only time you wouldn't have an entirely female party is when you do the Deep Roads Expedition and you're forced to take Varric. Companion quests are optional, so you don't have to do the ones for the guys.

Aveline and Isabela are two of my favourites for party banters and interaction in conversations. Gold. Especially when Aveline is interested in Donnic.

I would think Aveline, Isabela, MageFHawke and Merrill would absolutely own on any difficulty setting.

Any Hawke/Merrill/Isabella/Aveline is a very good party. So is Rogue Hawke/Merrill/Bethany/Aveline.

Going without a healer takes a bit of adjustment, but it's very freeing once you get used to it. Just remember that the game will generate more healing potions if you're low, so you shouldn't be unwilling to use them up.

Ok.   I will go with the mage for some heals, take the available women, cope with the brother, and trust that the cat fights won't get out of control.  I'll feel horrible about my sister dying, but oh well.  Thanks so much all for the advice and responses that clarify things.

Aveline, Isabela, Merril, And your Female Hawke make an all female party.
If your Male Hawke, then just Aveline, Isabela, and Merril.

They really are badass on any setting. I tore threw the game quickly on nightmare with them, with my femhawke being a healer and a force mage.

But then I really miss Anders' banter with everyone so I only did 1 PT with it.

My end-game is Female 2H Warrior Hawke, along with Merrill, Warden!Bethany and Isabela, so an all-female party is quite possible. Even without Bethany, a team of Hawke/Aveline/Merrill/Isabela works great, particularly if your Hawke is more DPS-focused, as you can bring down the enemy really quickly.

It sounds as if you've already made up your mind but I'd like to add my 1.9 cents into the mix.

I found that an Aveline build that dumps points almost entirely into her health worked very well. I gave her taunt and all those funky absorb others' damage talents. As long as I wasn't trying to play on nightmare she was enough to make potions the only heal I needed. Of course I died here and there but the Maker gave us re-load for a reason.

If you're really set on an all girl squad then there's no reason you need to have a full squad. Leave the boys at home and spend some quality time with just the one or two girls you've picked up thus far.

Bethany doesn't have to die, you can bring her along with you to the Deep Roads and then send her to become a Grey Warden. Then she can rejoin the group for the end game with a more functional wardrobe.

The real difficulty with an all female party would be that with the exception of Aveline, most of the ladies are on the flimsy side. Bethany and Merill particularly so. Isabella gets to be a powerhouse when you buy the Specialist talents, though - I keep Speed active constantly.

Well, okay, Bethany will EVENTUALLY die even after becoming a Warden, but Hawke will eventually die, too, of something or other. Probably stabbing-related.
