I want to correct a few ****ups I made at the end of ME2 (namely half my team dying) before getting into ME3. I've done a complete reinstall of windows 7 since I finished ME2, but made a backup of the users folder.
Now, I copied the files in Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2 from my backup, but they keep crashing the load menu for me. I can do a new game fine, but once I switch the load menu to the other (older) career, "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working."
I've installed all the DLC I have available to me, so that's probably not it.
Google yields nothing with the terms I've tried, relating more to ME1->ME2 savegame transfers or unrelated crashes.

Something has changed since you played before. If you used a low end machine, its performance may have been compromised by forcing it to keep on working at a level far beyond what it was designed for. Pretend the system never has worked, in the sense we need to start from scratch here. Refer to Pacifien's "Read First" guide to completing a problem report, and fill one out as described there.

If New game works fine, then it sounds like your saves were corrupted. You may try replacing the entire bioware folder if your have it backed up in case you missed something, or you may be out of luck and just have to replay the game.

Right. Versions:
MassEffect2.exe v1.02
MassEffect2Launcher.exe v1.01
MassEffect2Config v1.03
Uninstall Mass Effect 2.exe v1.03

PC Specs (though I really don't think this is it):
Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X6 1100T Processor
Clock Speed: 3300 MHz
Physical Memory: 8,00 GB
Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
VRAM: 1,00 GB
Driver Version:
Sound Adapter: Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio)
Driver Version: 6.0.1.7600
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

The saves are indeed from a previous PC (one running Windows XP). Here's the entire character's save folder, maybe someone can reproduce this or something.

Your save is bad, because it crashed my game as well so something happened in the transfer to mess it up. Sorry, you will probably have to restart unless you wish to spend a huge amount of time trying to fix it with a hex editor or some such....well past my level of expertise.
