I have to say that I liked him a lot. Sure he had his faults but so did every other character in the game and it's those flaws that make them that more realistic. No-one is perfect, so they say. Freddie Prinz Jr. did a good job of voicing the character too, in my opinion.
For starters, he's straight-up and honest and I like the way he adds his own brand of levity to a tense situation. Wether he's making up nicknames for everyone, bantering with another character or expressing concern about the origin of some eggs he found, I found his unflappable attitude refreshing.
He served as an oasis of calm when all around him was chaos and he wasn't as thick as some people made him out to be. I'm fairly sure that the Alliance wouldn't make him, or anyone else, an officer if he had nothing between his ears. Just because he is a brick-s*ithouse is neither grounds for assuming he's stupid nor a commission for that reason alone. He had to at least show some aptitude to gain his rank and he also apparently possesses a pilot-qualification as he's seen piloting a shutttle early-on in the game.
Speaking of, I just LOVE his method of bringing down the Cerberus shuttle

Yeah, yeah, we really want a new ending for ME3.
But besides that, and the possible Omega DLC, I think James should get a DLC mission. Or a mission where he stands out more.
The reason why is because, even though he might have some good elements about his character, he doesn't have a mission where he can stand out. He doesn't really have a purpose in the story, beyond asking nub questions. You don't really get that many conversations with him. He's not even an LI. He's mostly just around. He doesn't have the benefit of having a loyalty mission, or a personal mission, like your crew in ME2 and ME1. He's just along for the ride. Which makes him seem like a waste.
That's why I think he needs a personal mission. Or a mission that makes him stand out more.

Wait! There's angry flirting? Oh yes please!
Yep, apparently. The only line I've managed to get out of someone who's gone that route is: 'Maybe if I throw you onto the bed you can tell me how hard or soft it is,' (or something similar).

I could live with that. Hell, I'd pay for that. DLC please?

Especially burst out of laughter at Garrus when he said "Yeah, I remember a guy named Jimmy Vega, sounded like some kind of an Omega pole dancer:lol:

Is it just me, or does Vega and Garrus make an epic bro team? I mean, their chat on the Normandy is just AMAZING!

I loved that series of conversations, I was dying laughing the whole time. I think my FemShep finally just asked them if they wanted her to get them a ruler so they could settle it once and for all.

Which is exactly why everyone but Garrus and Vega were always left on the ship. And I don't remember that one. Do you remember where/when you got it?

The family finally understood. They were like O_o "THAT'S HOW IT ENDED? No wonder you're so upset."
Well, while I didn't use the same route you did (genius btw) I finally made them understand. I think they even liked the facebook page (link in my sig). It did take a while and a lot of exhasperated sighing on my part.

Anyway, if you romanced Tali make sure you bring Vega on Geth Dreadnought mission.

Best dialogue in the game! EDI's interjection was awesome!

@mnohama Not really sure. I got it when I cured the genophage and saved Citadel from Cerberus with both of them in my squad, since they say that they did whatever amazing thing you did with them, so that triggers it I think.

Thanks for that. If I can force myself to do another playthrough, I'll make sure to have those two in my party.
