YES. You have. Where have you been? I was just working on a certain scene you inspired last night.

Love that piece, ebreder. All too often I see James fan art that doesnt really capture his distinct face. Instead he's made to look more like a slender,anime-style pretty boy.
Agreed! If I wanted a slender pretty boy, I'd go for Kaidan and his girly hands. Oh, Kaidan seems nice and all, but I like 'em big and mouthy.
James' more serious fanart is my favorite. The "ka-boom" pic is still my wallpaper most of the time. Have you seen that one?

No, I haven't. You have to show me! I'm a Kaidan fan but I also love James, with or without a romance option and yes, being beefy isn't a bad thing~
Here ya go

LOL @ that tumbler. XD
edit: Whoops! Accidentally posted before I was done....
So with this latest patch for ME3, I was kind of hoping that they'd have a patch for romancing James.

Let's bring this thread to life! ![]()
I found an interesting and awesome thing about James. His skillset allows to level all his powers and he can still use them all seamlessly! Fortification and Incendiary Ammo are passive boosts, Grenades are independent of cooldowns and Carnage is the only projectile power he has. You only need one hotkey for grenades and everything else works together greatly! ![]()

Heh, I'm all for that ![]()
I currently only use Carnage with him and Squad Ammo, and loving it!
But Fortification does slow down his Carnage cooldown quite a bit, right?
And if you have only grenades on the hotkey, how are you using Carnage? Are you using it at all then?
Can I hope that you will record your next playthrough (you're testing your canon Shep right now, aren't you?)? I'd love to see how you use James with that setup ![]()

Carnage cooldown is slow anyway, if you accept that, you should have no problems accepting extra delay from Fortification ![]()
I used him pretty straightforwardly. On weaker enemies I didn't even bother with Carnage. Avenger with Squad Incendiary takes care of things. Sometimes I did use Carnage to detonate tech burst from taking down shields of a Marauder with Overload. I also used it on bosses - Atlas mechs and Banshees. Standard protocol was Shepard's Overload -> James's Carnage (tech burst) -> Shepard's Overload (fire explosion) and then followed with Shepard's Overload -> James's Frag Grenades (tech burst) until the shields/barrier are gone. When they are gone, enemies go down in seconds due to combined Avenger fire and Shepard's Inferno Grenades ![]()
What I like about him is that when you order him to attack an enemy, the only power he can use is Carnage. You don't need to worry about him using a wrong power that way (like Kaidan with two leveled powers). Hotkey Frag Grenades and you're all set ![]()
It'll be long till my canon Shepard playthrough. I'll play him close to ME:Andromeda release
I can probably compile a quick demonstration video but it might take some time ![]()

Hm, so far I didn't even think of using Carnage after Energy Drain regularly if I take down shields. I always use Javik's Pull afterwards and then my Throw because combined they are quicker in cooldown than Carnage
But I love using Carnage on turrets, they are done with one Combo of Energy Drain and Carnage, and just today I managed to get an Engineer caught in the explosion too ![]()
But basically, yeah, I used to use Carnage a lot more often at the beginning, now not so much anymore, though I still like it ![]()
Hehe, good old Avenger
I gave him the Vindicator.
I think the hotkey stuff differs a bit from PC to PS3, right? I can only assign one power for each squad mate and that is tied to the order button as well, so if I order something, they use the assigned power right away. The way you describe it it sounds like you can order them to attack without using the power on hotkey, in which case they use any power that has not been assigned to the hotkey?
Ah, no worries! If you have the time, sure, but don't stress yourself ![]()

I usually hack turrets and grab popcorn ![]()
I use Avenger for cutscenes and full auto mode. Squad Incendiary Ammo + Explosive Burst + full auto assault rifle = awesomeness!
Carnage is used as an opener, you use it once in the beginning of a fight and forget about it
I ended up putting points in it only near the end of the game and didn't even fully level it.
On PC we have different options. There are two buttons - Q and E by default, reserved for ordering squadmates to move and attack. When you press Q and target an enemy, the corresponding squadmate (Q - the left one, E - the right one) will concentrate fire on the target and use a projectile power, if applicable. In James's case, the only such power is Carnage. In Kaidan's case, he'll alternate between, say, Overload and Reave. You can see it is in this video - I wanted a tech burst with Kaidan's Overload there: Link
We have 10 quick slots, each with a corresponding key (number keys from 1 to 10 by default), and you can assign Shepard's and squadmate powers to those quick slots. In the aforementioned case, for Kaidan I need to have both Overload and Reave in quick slots, to tell him which power to use for each situation. In Jame's case, I don't need that because he can only use Carnage.
There is another button - Z by default, which orders both squadmates to concentrate fire on a target without using powers.

Yeah, easy for you to say, Mr. Engineer
Haaa, yes, that was fun in my last run. Good times, but I also enjoy Adept a lot!
Hehe, never break immersion! Ever since you guys talked about that I notice it every time, argh. But it's fine ![]()
Ah well, guess that's the advantage of playing with a keyboard
I have to really think about which setup will give me the best combo options overall for each situation. For example I never use Singularity myself again ever since I take Javik with me. His Pull is enough to create great combos, and I can assign Energy Drain, Warp and Throw to the buttons (we have 3 buttons for Shepard at least
) and instantly use them even when there's bigger enemies like Atlases or Brutes. I rarely pause to select something else.
It wasn't like that during my last run, as I was still pausing every time to select my powers manually for each enemy, but it is a lot of fun to not have to pause! I never thought I would manage that ![]()

Didn't I say Sentinel was superior to Adept? What three powers are you using? The three Sentinel powers with ED substituted for Overload. ![]()

So true! Haha. When I play a Sentinel for real at some point it's gonna be the same all over
Well, can't complain, I love the setup!
