Ok, after Anderson saves Shep from falling to his doom in the opening mission, Shep says "I owe you one" and Anderson replies with "more than one".

When else does Shep owe him?

My best guess is that is something like LotSB Hackett dossier - Alliance brass wasn't going to be gentle with returned Shepard, maybe even execution was in question, and Anderson had to defend him. Maybe he defended before Council as well.

I think we can assume that Anderson has saved Shep's life/done many favours for Shep before the events of ME. I mean, I don't know about you, but Anderson seems to me to be the closest thing Shepard has to a father =p

He gave up command of the Normandy for Shepard.
He helped Shepard steal the Normandy back.
He helped convince the Council to give Shepard back his Spectre status (in some playthroughs anyway, but in all playthroughs he defended Shepard's actions).
He presumably had a say in ensuring that Shepard wasn't court-marshalled.

Anderson has done quite a lot for Shepard.

I actually see a close resemblance to Udina in this picture.

This is an outrage!

In the demo we know he defended Shepard, I think thanks to him, Shep avoided some issues with the Alliance.

If it wasn't for Anderson's word, Shepard would probably be rotting in the brig.

That and there is also the whole "Walk into Udina's office and punch him in the face, then unlock the Normandy" stunt in ME1.

Yeah, Anderson's got a long history of backing up Shepard at every turn. If there's anyone outside of the Normandy crew that Shepard can trust no matter what, it's him (and probably Hackett too).

That wasn't his choice. :)

He's definitely helped Shepard. Something about the line seems...off putting though. It almost feels like we missed out on some sort of argument between them at some point.

The way I see it, Anderson owes Shepard way more than Shepard owes him. Anderson always seemed like someone who had too strict morals to be really useful to my Shepard.

I don't get it? What does Anderson owe Shep at all?

here's one reason i'd RP that scene, though i haven't actually seen that scene:

Artemis Shepard: Sir, I'm a lesbian, y'know, like other girls instead of guys.
Anderson: I see.
Shepard: i'd really appreciate it if we keep this between us.
Anderson: Shepard...
Shepard: i know gays are allowed to serve openly on your ship but...
Anderson: Shepard, Sergeant Nagata knew what would happen when she got involved with you, yet she sacrificed herself to save you because she loved you and would want you be happy.
Shepard: I know, I'm just not ready to move on.
Anderson: I understand, I'll keep it quiet.
Shepard: thanks, i owe you.

just an example, to point out that it might be Pre-ME 1, pulling out something that was meant to be interpreted by the player.

no one, name i made up for one of the soldiers that died on Akuze (my fem!Shep is a sole survivor)

the example was just to make a point that what was said in the OP was vague for a reason.

I don't think Anderson was Shepard's CO at the time of Akuze.

Still... it is public knowledge by the time of ME 1, whose to say such knowledge like shepard breaking regulations with a fellow soldier did not leak to Anderson

When I heard this line of dialouge I felt the same way.  Any returning player to the series knows that Anderson has always had Shepard's back, but we don't know anything that happened after Shepard returned to Earth at the end of Arrival.  For all we know Anderson and Hackett prevented the Alliance from executing Shepard.  He did indirectly kill 305,000 batarians. There were probably a number of senior Alliance officers that wanted to just hand him over to the Batarians in an attempt to prevent a war.

Everyone thinks Shepard owes them ... Anderson included. Such is the life of heroes. Posted Image
