That is right - the codes from FB gave you early access to the SP portion of the demo - BF3 is required to gain early access to the MP part.

For those with early access: The early access is specifically for the multiplayer, not the demo itself. For those without early access, you'll be able to play the multiplayer demo in... three days, I believe? Something like that.
