Is Origin required to download/run the demo?

I am pretty sure Origin is needed for the demo because the Origin servers supply/provide the multiplayer features.

Regarding the ProcMon discussion above, as I understand the bug relating to Origin indexing files outside of its own path has been fixed for a while. That doesn't mean that it can't *potentially* scan your My Documents folder or whatever (same for any other app you run when logged in), but as Dylia noted above, it doesn't seem to be doing that any more.

Show me proof. Origin no longer scan files except it's very own Origin folder. damned ignorants basing their own opinions on others.

Can you disprove it? I doubt it. Who's ignorant now?

Anyway, I'm wondering whether more than 1 player will be able to play the single copy of the game? (Like more than one profile)

One copy of the game per profile. However you can install it unlimited times on different machines, even concurrently. There are activation limits within a single 24 hour period in place, and oviously you cannot play multiplayer on two different machines with the same profile. It seems that you can play SP on as many machines as you want, since this can be done offline once activated. I don't know if this a loophole, oversight or intended in the Origin EULA.

I am genuinely interested, do you have a source for that?

See Dylia's post at the bottom of page 1. As for testimonial proof, you're on your own. I'd suggest searching for and through the myriad previously locked Orgin threads in the general forum.

This is the entire Origin segment from Process Monitor at 12:00 PM.

Image IPB

If it doesn't work, open the image URL in another tab.

I'm confused what this is proof of. All I see from this is the origin.exe running and referencing an ini file.

Exactly. That makes it seem like it only now scans around its own files.

so... demo works only when origin is running? >.< Didn't they say it'll be possible to play the SP when not connected to it? Or it's only for the full game?
I don't have early access to MP anyways, why should i be logged for origin. *mad*

For those of you confused like I was, go to ea.com and to the shop area at top of site. You have to download "Origins" and then from there you can download the Mass Effect 3 demo for PC. Funny how this has been such a confusing topic. Seriously, someone should make this much easier for everyone to understand. Would save a lot of time and frustration.

I'm sure someone has posted this somewhere, but where...who knows.

The Origin landing page should redirect to the correct one for your country or region too. Then you go to "free downloads" and take it from there.

If anyone has any doubts, you can always use PeerBlock + sandboxing Origin. That's what I'm doing and I haven't had any issues (or at least I didn't notice any).

Thanks for losing another customer EA. Your Origins crap invades others privacy and gives that information to other third-party companies. Don't you love your rights being violated?

then wtf are you doing online at all?

and if you think origin is bad, try reading the agrement with any apple product

Can you disprove that Origin grants unicorns their horns? I doubt it.

No problem. As my sig implies, I installed the client against my wishes for ME3 only. Any other game and I'd have waved bye-bye to BioWare and EA. So I did my homework on it. And I can live with it for now.

Ok, i'm pretty annoyed with Origin already.
ME3 demo dled, but when I click install (for ****s sake why do I have to install it still ? the game should install itself automatically like Steam!) DirectX gives an internal error, I been fighting this for a while now and I have no idea what the hell is wrong, I am NOT re-installing windows so If I can't play the damned thing without Origin so be it, i'm not getting myself another headache.

DirectX is properly installed, all games I have run without problems, Steam not giving me problems.

Origin!
Why you so ****ed up???

Seriously.

Honestly i have yet to see anything that makes this any diffrent then steam. Both are equally as bad. I see no reason to have to run a program to run a game and then keep said program up. I understand launchers but they close when the program is updated and runs. However i just hope someone manages a "tool" for me3 like with bf3 where once the games installed you can uninstall origin and run the game fine

In steam, games install properly.

In Origin, they just ****** you off.

I spent 4 hours on installing ME2. I'm not going to go through this headache.

If i pay for a game I want to play it without problems, EA are ****s if they think Origin is helping anyone.

Origin scanning all your files is no longer true.

Just rerun Process monitor, and with the Bonjour services folder being the only exception, the only folders Origin access is either windows/system32, crypto folders, EA/Origin data folders, game folders or it's own folders. And guess what? all of those are legitimate for Origin to access...

Please stop using an old image as your "proof" (specially when said image gives a 403 error)

My sentiments exactly.  I already have the N7 ME3 pre-ordered and will reluctantly install Origin to play it.

But I'll only let it out to play on the internet to authenticate the game and then run it in off-line mode with the internet disconnected from my PC when I'm playing ME3.

Once I've finished ME3, I'll be removing it and Origin, I don't intend to leave it on my computer in case it does go back to scanning everything (yes I know EA said it was a bug, but, frankly, I don't trust them).

I'm just not going to install it to play the demo because I don't want it on my PC for any longer than it needs to be.

That is odd as my Demo downloaded and auto installed fine.  Maybe check to see if you have the most recent version of Origin or see if a program is blocking Origin.  My Anti Virus program had a nasty habit of blocking Steam when it tried to install games every now and then so check your Anti virus and Firewall for permissions.
