Wow. Just ran into some moments during a certain "temple" quest that involves "questions" and "mirrors". I am being purposefully vague/metaphoric to avoid spoilers. Nevertheless, this particular encounter exceeds the "awesomeness" of a similar encounter in Baldur's Gate II. That is all. Wow.

You've spoken blasphemy according to some. I'd imagine someone's getting ready to flame you.

I loved the questions, they were cool.

Especially if you brought Wynne; her wisdom is just intense.

I am what some would consider a rabid BG and BG2 fan, and I have to say that I love this game equally. You will not get flame from this dragoness.

I've had similar experiences elsewhere in the game. If the game's not better than BG2 and BG-series it's atleast equal.

Of course folks will have their opinions, but... I played a demo/alpha at New York Comic Con and the release has lived up to (and beyond) my expectations. This game, nine years later, is as life-consuming/absorbing as BGII was (I spent 8 months playing BGII+ToB). BGII is my favorite game (any platform) of all time. DA:O is giving it a run for its money.

The combat is nowhere near as good as BG2, the dialogue might be on par with it but there isn't as much dialogue and you have less characters to choose from.

This game's biggest weaknesses are the enemies and the combat - the combat is pretty shallow and the enemies are pretty textbook monsters trying to take over the world rawr.

DAO definitely needs more instant-death and arrows of wtfslaughtering from enemies off screen, amirite

nothing more fun than having your favorite NPC disintegrated

Yup, nothing like a good old fashioned saving throw or die. :o

It certainly exceeds BG2 for me, though I think it has a lot to do with how terrible I was at getting that game right. It's still one of the games I will never complete out of pure frustration at the engine.

I'm very glad to see this. I've also been a long-time fan of BG II, and I never thought I'd see an RPG like that again. Some have tried, but BG II has always been on a level all its own. I'm excited to see BioWare doing something that good again.

Granted, DA:O is a cool game ... but the riddles ... (WHICH riddles???) ... are just ... not worth mentioning compared to BG and BG2 ... sad, but true.

Nevertheless, the story and characters are superb and overall DA:O is a quite enjoyable game.

WHY WEREN'T YOU BUFFED WITH DEATH WARD HMMM???

BG2 may have had it's own imbalances, but you had a lot more abilities to work with, as did your enemies.

Baldur's Gate 2 was ruined for me by the 2nd Edition AD&D rules. Bioware's part of the game (characters, story, artwork, etc) were truly excellent however. So for me Dragon Age is a like Baldur's Gate without the annoying, antiquated, counterintuitive rule system. Pure win.

The Baldur's gate 2 most off us remember have a heavy nostalgia filter on it. And A good portion off us also have the various fixes and tweaks that have come out for it since bioware stopped officially releasing patches for the game. So when it all comes down to it, wether you like to admit it or not. Baldur's Gate 2 was flawed. Not that I love it any less, don't get me wrong, I love that game to bits and pieces. I just possess the clarity off mind to see the game as it was, with flaws and all. At least some off the time. :P

I think this game is vastly better than Baldur's Gate 2.

IMO Dragon Age does some things better than the BG series and the BG series did some things better than Dragon Age. It remains to be seen however, if DA can reach that same level of nostalgia that still makes me go back and re-play the BG games today.

DA is definitely the most enjoyable BioWare game since the BG series though, and that is impressive in itself :)

Because the last time I played I was too distracted by the ugly smear of low-res pixels across my widescreen monitor wondering why I was spending time on that ancient artifact of PC gaming

Try the widescreen mod.

excellent game, but can't be compared to bg2. Bg2 was much more complex and massive.

I genuinely appreciate the tip but it doesn't install with my version of the game, and I can't be arsed to try and fix it since it would apparently involve patching backwards somehow.
