Unlocks are completely unacceptable. If I bought a game, I want access to the whole game.

You do have access to it. You just have to play. This is like complaining that you can't have rank-6 Singularity when your character is level 1, or complaining that you can't use the Graal shotgun when escaping Earth.

Those are in-game restrictions.  Playing within the setting is the point of the game.

Unlockable content is a metagame restriction.  Those shouldn't ever exist.

I think it is awesome to have thing you don't have to pay real money for.

You did pay real money for it.  You bought the game.

But then you have to jump through hoops to be allowed to use it.

No.  I bought it, it's my content, and I can do what I want with it.

Why wouldn't the same logic apply to the multiplayer?  You're a soldier sent out to defend the galaxy against the Reaper menace and you're given standard issue weaponry when you first set out just like any soldier.

As you become a more veteran soldier you pick up new tricks and weapons due to your time in the field.  Why would a rookie spec-ops character sent on an impromptu mission in the middle of an ambush invasion have anything but standard issue gear to start out?

I like unlockables. I do not like random unlockables, though.

How do race selections fit into that description?

So my female human vanguard works hard and gets a sex change and species change so I can play the class/gender I want?

It seems that you get the XP that the squad gets - so even if you suck, you still get decent XP. Which means even low level players can play with high level ones and do OK.

Yeah, I agree. I'm actually fine with cosmetic unlocks like new armor pieces, colours, etc...But I'm not fine with unlocks that affect gameplay, like guns and different classes/races. Why the hell do I have to grind to get access to all of the fun stuff?

^This.
I would prefer to pick what race/class combo myself, even with a higher price tag instead of relying on RNG (which has usually hated me in every game with RNG). Bare minimum that if, behind the scenes, I get a second race-class card it generates another instead.

What I love about what I've seen so far in ME3 multiplayer is that you don't NEED the unlocks, but the unlocks do allow you to change up your gameplay style somewhat, enough you feel in control of your gamestyle, but not enough to make you super powered compared to other players.

..and ultimately, unlockables are like achievements to me - couldn't care less and again I LOVE the fact that you don't need them to play a good fun fair game.

Certain other MP games kill me because its just a case of grind for unlocks - then you can play the game.

They introduced Multiplayer to bring Mass Effec to other markets, but what it looks like they've also done, is bring Multiplayer to the single player market in a fun way.

Unlockables are alright, but random unlockabes are not. You should earn currency to spend it- not to gamble it.

By that logic you shouldn't have to play a game to complete it- you should be able to just skip right to then end and win instantly.

Your work liberating and holding territories has freed more captured operatives, gained the allegiance of more species and freed up more funds to hire mercenaries of other species.

Its incredibly easy to validate.

Maybe Bioware should write some lines to validate it if it's so easy. Besides, it seems conducive to their style of gaming so why not...

I'm fine with unlocks, but not this random system. I'd like to buy a la carte, and pick what I need for my play style.

You mean like how they wrote out Shepard's backstory or told us where the rest of the military personnel on the Normandy were hiding in ME1 before the scene on Virmire?  Some things are just left to the imagination.

Part of RPG's are the fact that you fill in the blanks with your own interpretation.

RPGs are about building your character, hence the need for a variety of player character skill and ability which you developer according to preference. That's all. Anything extra is a bonus. Choosing your own adventure, and using your own imagination is not a gameplay mechanic nor is it restricted to the confines of any single genre, so that means you can remove this element from a game in an RPG, or a strategy, or an FPS or a game of any genre and they will continue to be what they were before. Otherwise everyone would be calling Arkham City an RPG because it's full of side content which you can optionally take part in, and prisoners which you can choose to save or ignore.

Why do people keep confusing in-game content with metagame content?

But there's no flow-through from one reality to the next.  How can your SP experience affect your MP experience.  Or more importantly, how can your SP experience affect someone else's MP experience?
