Hoidiho people,

after downloading and installing Origin i noticed that the Origin Store is displayed in German and apparently not changeable. (have been stationed here for a while and it's propably not going to change in the near future). Now i can use a VPN, at least when i'm at home but that pretty much crippels my bandwith.

Now to my actual Question:
Given that Origin is required for the Demo, can i actually play in English?

ME and ME2 gave me the Choice to Install the Game in any of 4 or 5 (not really sure which besides german and italian, etc) Languages. I'm still somewhat hopeful that didn't change, but i haven't heard anything regarding this.

Any Insight would be appreciated.

Does anyone know if it will be on all Origin sites worldwide simultaneously? I live in Japan so I'm stuck with the Japanese version of the site.

Not sure but it is common for Digital sites to be restricted by the same release dates as retail stores, so it probably won't be a simultaneous release.

Yeah that sucks, even though my first language is German I like to have all my games and programs in English, international support and troubleshooting is much easy that way.
Steam let me chose my preferred language, Origins though...oh well...

* The Origin store language is determined by your location.
* The language in the Origin client itself (invites etc) can be configured at Settings -> General -> Select A Language
* The in-game text language can be changed at Extras -> Options -> Narrative -> Text Language

Mass Effect makes a guess on your language the first time the game launches based on your "Location" configured in Windows.

Hope that helps on the language question.

It's forcing me to view their store in my native language as well. I find that extremely annoying.

In my case they assume I speak French because I'm a Belgian, but I happen to live in the Flemish region where the official language is Dutch. In fact, the majority of Belgians speak Dutch as their first language. Both origin and GFWL made that mistake.

Same problem here, I'm an American serving on an American military installation in Germany. But because my IP is detected as german, the store menu is only available in a non-familiar language, as well as being forced to pay in Euro, which is an additional 50% cost compared to the US version due to the exchange rate. I've brought this issue up again and again in the official Origin Bug forum, but have never once recieved a response.

Yet on Origin's main compeditor, Steam, when I encountered a similiar problem (in Afghanistan now less!) they quickly and efficiently answered my ticket as well as gave me steps to use their service via their US market with language and pricing.

So if EA is going to force Origin down our throats by shackling their intellectual properties to it, the end consumer has no choice but to either swallow or skip the meal entirely. But if EA wants Origin to be a true compeditor on the online distribution market, they need to do a much better job at addressing basic customer service problems.

Shows you how they like to screw us Europeans with the all too common one on one dollar to euro conversion since we don't generally actually earn 50% more then you do.
But to your problem, I think you'd be more likely to achieve a positive result if you'd request the US military to make some decent proxy servers available to you, then you are complaining to EA about it.

Hello,

I am a US Soldier currently stationed in Germany. When trying to
purchase games via the Steam Store I was unable to make the transaction
using my US based credit cards. Please make whatever changed to my
account nessessary to unrestrict the localization requirement for my
purchases. Please let me know if you need any further information.

Thank You

This was sent under 24 hours of my ticket submittal last May (privacy information x'd out).  Call me a liar if you want, but Valve gained a lot of customer loyalty that day from me.  I only hope that some day EA and Origin will address this issue similarly.

I'm from the Netherlands originally myself, so I know what you mean. Often Benelux+France gets treated as one region by publishers, so they'll default to French.

The worst example I can think of are Lucasarts DVDs (including Star Wars), which default to French unless your DVD player language is set to English. So if the player language is set to Dutch, you get French. You can still change the movie and subtitle language of course, but the DVD menus are in French and that's not changeable without changing the DVD player's language settings.

Anyway, the ME3 demo was there in the Japanese Origin store this morning when I woke up, so it's all good. :)

Dear Mr. Hegarty,

I'm having a very hard time to find definitive information on avaiable languages in the final product, your post is the most promising so far. I'm austrian (german) and while i ordered ME1&2 in USA/UK, this time I plan to preorder the digital deluxe edition for PC on origin, or the boxed german N7 collectors edition on a local store. I can play the Demo in english without a problem and a bunch of german gaming sites state, that the original english voices will also be avaiable on german versions of the game - i need to know if this is true, i wouldn't want to play the game in any other language than the original.

Big thanks in advance :)

Something is definitely wrong with Origin. The site determines and displays my language (Russian) correctly. On the other hand, the program has some code encrypting issues. Almost everything is displayed with weird characters. Luckily I found a way to switch the language to English.

The boxed version is multilingual, just like the boxed versions of ME1 and ME2 and all other recent BioWare games are.
As far as downloading via Origin goes, I have mixed experiences. ME2 I could download every version except the German one (I am a fellow austrian), DA:O does not allow to pick a language (no idea if it downloads all of them and you have to choose during install or if you are stuck with German) and DA:A only allows to pick a language if I switch Origin to English.
So I recommend to stick with a boxed version to be on the safe side, since I never had a problem to install or play a boxed copy in English (also the boxed version is usually cheaper then what you would pay on Origin).

Which languages are aviable for the German CE to be installed.
I mean the actual Voice-Acting.

I switched to play games in english long ago, since the german Voice-actors of today tend to be unqualified, numb abominations of actors. To be honest: If you add the "mechanic-voice-effect" to the german shepard-voices, they would make up for some good reapers: Unemotional, monotonic, mechanic, dead voices.

That was my initial thought as well, but as a fellow austrian you'll most likely know gameware.at. In the past they've been rather precise about avaiable languages in their descriptions. As you can see here they also offer an english version, but the  N7 collectors edition is listed as german only.

Amazon has the following listed amongst game features

Sprachausgabe: Multilingual, das Spiel kann sowohl komplett in Deutsch als auch in Englisch gespielt werden (Audio und Text).

And since all recent BioWare games can be installed in English if you just change the language of the launcher from English to German I think it is pretty safe to say that the same will apply to ME3.

I'm facing the same issue. I live in Poland and I'd like to preorder Mass Effect 3. I switched the language of my client to English. However, when I go into checkout, it says that the copy of ME3 I'm attempting to buy is in Polish. This doesn't satisfy me, because the Polish version of ME2 was, frankly, bad, and I don't expect ME3 to be any better in this regard. I'm reluctant to try the solution proposed by Joe Hegarty because it looks like it's applied to the already installed game and I don't want to take that risk. How do you access the "extras" page anyway?
EDIT: I found the settings in question. I stand corrected.

Russian version doesn't have English language option. I'm disappointed (well, more like outraged actually).
