The demo must be able to explain to new players.
I like how Commander Shephard blew off Ashley initially. Good work
The beginning is a mix of ME1 and 2. Works decently enough

This is BSN, silly. The only ones left here are the die-hard fanboys and Bioware Defense Force. The more you try to be reasonable with them, the more irrational they get. They simply can't exist in a world where their favorite developer isn't always making them the BEST. GAME. EVER. "Features removed? Bah, didn't need em. I like it better this way, in fact. Really, this is great."

There are some good things to this game. The Kinect support is fun. Little things like the Kodiak shuttles having guns visibly on them add to the believeability of things. The graphics are very good (better than I had seen in videos but I suppose that is to be expected) and I liked the new squad power menus and such during level ups. Versatile helmet toggles for both Shepard and her Companions was a nice addition. Wrex looked great and I really like the new femShepard look. Not a fan of the sexifying of Ash though.
The OP, however makes some very good points. The framerates on the xbox version are really weird at times, the controls are sluggish and trying to run around on Surkesh was a nightmare. Shepard really seems to move slower when not running. I actually preferred the cover system in ME2. This cover system had me accidentially sliding around corners and over things when I just wanted to get into cover and lean around and shoot. The cooldowns were nice and confusing- 15.6 seconds for level 4 Warp with 80% reduction in cooldown? Other people have stated that they suspect this is an error, has there been anything conclusive?
The music is very good and powerful during the last scene of the intro with the kid. HOWEVER, unless I'm mistaken the Normandy was hovering there with its guns pointed directly at that reaper crawler and did not shoot. Thanix Cannon, anyone? But I digress, Mac Walters prefers the implications of the drama rather than realistic drama. I get it, no one is safe from the Reapers they'll even kill little kids because they're so evil. Thanks for beating me over the head with it.
Finally, the facial animations. It seems that everyone has gotten botox in their upper lip. I couldn't figure out what was bothering me about the whole first few scenes when it hit me "Team America World Police". The animations of Shepard and Anderson at the beginning felt like sophisticated marionettes. The awkward walking, the stiff backs and Anderson looking above Shepard's head and cross-eyed during his whole "The **** you did would have had anyone else courtmarshalled..." talk. They really feel like a step down from ME2. It is really, really noticble. When you're uncomfortable because the characters are not walking and talking like a person should, it is a clear sign that something is wrong. Maybe I've taken the fluid animations of the previous games for granted.
I'm hoping that some menu fenagling will help deal with the controls situation and the dialogue choices in the main game will be more representative of previous Mass Effect games.
Overall, I don't think I would have been sold on the game based on the demo if I hadn't played the series before. Demo gets a C+.

might be true, but the demo was only a small portion of the game.
and even the leaked beta only had so much more stuff in it that it really doesnt matter.
this is obiously not going to be the best of the game.
all they showed was tutorial level, and wanted to show gameplay.
demo is ment for mass audiance, and the masses are not going to want to explore dialog option lick the magority of ME and bioware fans. they are going to want the demo to set up the release with what the action [part of the game play is going to feel like.
however it is a sham that i did notice some texture issues with the beginning part of the game, but other thatn that it was smooth and the rest of the game looks great. I cant wait to get my collector edition night of release.
also i hate it when people from alternate demension post in this demensions time line, sucks that your version of bioware makes bad games.

As for the limited dialogue options - I rather doubt that it's representative of the number of dialogue options you'll have in every single conversation in the actual game. The other stuff you're spouting is subjective but could be legit; however, I stopped taking you seriously as soon as I saw the complaint about the different game modes (none of which YOU have to avail yourself of if you want to play in RPG mode). Seriously, the game-mode complaining is one of the most idiotic things that I've seen on the forums whenever it gets brought up as a gripe by someone who can't abide the existence of other modes that other people might enjoy.

Seriously people? You don't like the game or the demo and you have no plans to buy it. Fair enough. Why are you on a site dedicated to the game? What, do you think you're opinions are going to be the revelation that shakes us out of the rut we have been living in like good little sheep, and that now we will all see the light and follow you into not buying the game?

I think I agree with you more than anyone else so far in this thread, however things to add that I don't think are right or questions I'd raise.
- Canon choices concerning important characters made outside of the realm of the videogame, ala Councillor Anderson suddenly retiring and becoming Admiral or whatever (I had to read the post by Priestly explaining the 10 things you should know before playing ME3).
- Cringe worthy dialogue, Anderson:"The **** you've done", along with the whole child scene just reeks of lack of creativity.
- Why do all of the reapers look the same?
- Why is Wrex acting like a douchebag, better yet who wrote the line "I'll make you an honourary Krogan".
- The start of the game feels great as an adept, but when it jumps to the section Lurrkresh or whatever its called, all of the cooldowns take forever and it really slows the pace of combat, even at max rank in said power.
- Wheres the trial that Chris had told us was in the game? Who's Vega and why does my Shepard know him so well?
- Controls are fiddly at the moment but that's not so much of an issue because apparently it had been looked into or is getting looked into.
- Auto-dialogue is a huge bane, but according to the devs it's different in the final game although there wasn't much chance anyway to select a dialogue option. If my imported Shepard acts like this in the final game there can only be Mass dissapointment.

They've got that annoying complex where they believe everyone who doesn't share their beliefs is either an idiot or a sheep. They also seem to believe that they are enlightened somehow.

The action, story and RPG modes are options for specific people to select depending on their desired playstyle. Why is action mode an "insult" when you can play in RPG mode like most of us who like RPGs probably will be doing? How many times do I have to see this ridiculous topic come up? Honestly, this thread looks more to me like it's just "I hated DA2 and want to pick at everything possible because I hated it and think that I can use this demo as proof that it's the last nail in BW's coffin."

Sigh. People need to take a chill pill.
It's like all the whine at the DA2 demo when conversations lagged. People need to realize that a demo is a early build; a beta. If it wasn't they wouldn't get it out on time
Yeah...not a really good example here.

I agree with basically everything you've said. I read the "10 Things you should know" thing two, but the problem with that is that no one should have to go to outside sources to understand what is happening in the game. Additional media should expand upon concepts brought up in the game or be stories dealing with other things in the universe. To say that you have to read a comic series to understand why this character is there and a series of books to know who that character even is is poor storytelling and a lazy cash grab.
I'm pinning all my hopes right now on import saves somehow making things more clear. Although I get the idea of cannon choices happening out of my control, it still feels less organic than the transition from ME1 to ME2. Can't say for certain until I play the final product, but it feels like the start could have been done better.
Right now I just have to take the demo for what it is.

Did you play Gears of War 3? A similar thing had happened there which was an awful transition from 2-3 when Dizzy and Tai sacrificed themselves so the rest of the gears could escape Skorge, next thing you know Dizzy pops up in Gears 3 like "So was happenin fellas?"
