The action, story and RPG modes are options for specific people to select depending on their desired playstyle. Why is action mode an "insult" when you can play in RPG mode like most of us who like RPGs probably will be doing? How many times do I have to see this ridiculous topic come up? Honestly, this thread looks more to me like it's just "I hated DA2 and want to pick at everything possible because I hated it and think that I can use this demo as proof that it's the last nail in BW's coffin."

As for the limited dialogue options - I rather doubt that it's representative of the number of dialogue options you'll have in every single conversation in the actual game. The other stuff you're spouting is subjective but could be legit; however, I stopped taking you seriously as soon as I saw the complaint about the different game modes (none of which YOU have to avail yourself of if you want to play in RPG mode). Seriously, the game-mode complaining is one of the most idiotic things that I've seen on the forums whenever it gets brought up as a gripe by someone who can't abide the existence of other modes that other people might enjoy.

My apologies for asking but was that aimed at me?

Problem is they made this game with the idea that this would be an introduction to the series for new players.

Can you imagine if book series worked that way? Forget Game of Thrones, just jump right into Storm of Swords. Jame's Vega will be there to explain the bits you missed.

To say that you have to read a comic series to understand why this character is there and a series of books to know who that character even is is poor storytelling and a lazy cash grab.

Did you play Gears of War 3? A similar thing had happened there which was an awful transition from 2-3 when Dizzy and Tai sacrificed themselves so the rest of the gears could escape Skorge, next thing you know Dizzy pops up in Gears 3 like "So was happenin fellas?"

Played Gears 1 and enjoyed it. The main character being called "Fenix" was entertaining. What else was the large brute oozing badassness going to be called?

Anyway, yeah, it is frustrating for gamers and I know the Devs could have put their heads together and come up with something better. I'm just getting this feeling that so much time was spent trying to appeal to new players that the Dev team forgot about the countless players who got them this far.

Lol. No kidding. I had to read the first section of the first book like five times just so I could get oriented in that world.

Sure you did you little insider ;)

They are all over YouTube. Do a search (Mass Effect 3 beta leak).

And there might be a simple explanation for the bad facial animations. Am I right that the (too often automatic) dialogue is taking place within the flowing game (no cut to a dialogue-scene), maybe that makes animations more difficult?

my problem with the demo is they didnt let you customize your weapons or weapon loadout meaning caster classes got stuck with long ass cooldowns and infiltrator got stuck with no sniper making halg the upgrades for it worthless =/

Pssh, should have just skipped the clunky dialog from the first book. The third one minimized it to a dialog wheel.

They had to take a lot of the dialog out to meet the xbox 2 gig limit. There's an entire section cut out of the sur'kesh demo full of dialog with investigates. Textures should be similar quality as ME2.

Can't comment on the rest till I play it myself.

I can't believe that for a second. There were perhaps only two or three opportunities for the player to have a choice in what to say, and the demo took up 1.7GB. There was still 300 MBs roughly to play around with.

You think that much dialog, plus the animations for it, the character you talk to, and the area you take in is just 300 mb?:pinched:

Bioware should never handle trilogies again. If they go into each sequel saying, 'how do we handle this for new players?' returning players are gonna feel shortchanged every time.

They should just stick to stand alones, cause the whole concept of their's, 'what you do matters' is usually nerfed through convenient changes they made

And I am sorry, but Mac Walters is no Drew

I don't understand why people would pre-order a game anyway. You don't know what you are going to get and you don't get a refund...

Do you understand that's not the case for imports? You only get the new gamer experiance if you play a new game with importing yourcharacter in the full game.

Don't forget Jace, and Sam, and Prescott, and Adam... Seriously the entire game was just 1 big "WTF what did I miss in GoW1 and 2?". Some people nailed it when they said playing Gears 3 actually felt like they were playing Gears 4.

I'm afraid this demo was just the start of repeating that same circle. Who's Vega? Where's the trial? What? How? Why? Is nothing compared to the **** that happens when we meet our old companions and new faces.

Seriously I started to laugh when I saw Vega. I thought he's just some random ugly custom Shep made for those Jersey Shore pics. Turns out he's actual game character.

The game is pretty much set piece after set piece with some mediocre gameplay sprinkled on it. I was already going to pass on it due to the whole Origin debacle but actually playing it made that decision so much easier.

Oh, so you've played the full game, I presume?

Oh, so you've deluded yourself into thinking that the final product, at least technically, won't be almost exactly the same as the demo? Demos are almost always VERY representative of the final game, don't let devs tell you otherwise, it has been proven game after game after game.

I thought much the same about Mass Effect 2. The writing sucked. Mass Effect's story and dialogue was top-notch.

I am a writer. I have bias...but seriously?

What a pompous thing to say. That's like me saying, "Oh, well I have good taste in games. So I'm biased toward good games!" So lame...

I'd like to see your writing. I would bet I would think it absolutely sucked.

BS i have played enough ME2 to understand they don't give a rats ass about dialogue anymore. Even investigating in ME2 gave you nothing to build a conversation on, unlike ME1.

What's with the jogging animation in this game?, it truly is crap in comparison to ME and ME2. Shepard simply "glides" along, with no bounce to his step. And, does anyone know if Mass Effect 3 will give us the ability to holster our weapon and walk normally?, as there was no option to do so in the demo.

I played through the demo twice.

As soon as I started the game, one thing grabbed my attention: the menus were extremely clunky. It felt like it was going at less than 24fps, more like 12 fps. It was almost difficult trying to navigate my way through the settings and buttons, it was so unresponsive. Ok, it's no big deal. On to the game. Wow, ugly textures. What's worse is the framerate felt very inconsistent in some bits. There was a close up of one of the human council's face, the woman I think, and I was scared my xbox was going to crash, the framerate got so bad. The face textures are on the whole well detailed, but the clothing/armour detail looks extremely jarring and outdated.

Also, the writing is absolutely terrible. It is cliched as hell. Stuff like "you can't help me", "let's get the hell outta here!" and "thanks, I owe you one" makes me cringe. All the characters have changed drastically. Ashley unexplainably got a boob job, and has makeup. Same with Liara. Wrex just comes off as whiny, instead of a cakm, brooding badass. When the krogan female snatched the shotgun out of his hands and shot down two cerberus soldiers (it was a claymore heavy shotgun, and she used it like it was an automatic shotgun, talk about inconsistency) Wrex's line "huh, women" was just so unbelievably cringe inducing.

Also, it appears the dialogue options have been cut down dramatically, to cater to a more casual, younger audience. There's a clear cut good and evil choice, and that's it. No middle branch. No "investigate" on the left hand side. It's far too simplisitic. What's worse is that this game is 90% cutscene and 10% dialogue, if you get what I mean. Shepard speaks of his own accord far more than the player gets to control him.

Finally, the gameplay is horrible. The animations are extremely jerky and unnatural looking. The controls are very unresponsive. it feels like it's trying to be Gears of War, but it fails in every single aspect. It doesn't have the tight, fluid gameplay to match. It feels horribly floaty and rigid.

It screams of console port.

Those of you who say "but it's just a demo!", "it will get patched" etc are completely deluded. Mass Effect 2 was a great game, but the stripping down of RPG elements was a foreshadowing of this. Dragon Age 2 was the last straw.

I'm not telling you to get on the bioware hate bandwagon, what I am doing is making to light some very serious issues, with this game and Bioware itself.

A dev has confirmed that the dialogue options will be expanded in the full game.
