Ugh what? All the games he listed have VERY average, repetetive combat. They should be much better considering it's the ONLY things they do. ME3 is guaranteed to have more to it than shooting, and the actual mechanics are very much a lot of fun and work.

You must not like traditional shooters then because Halo, COD, BF3, and Gears all destroy ME in that area.

Traditional Shooters? COD? BF3? Gears of War? Give me a break, none of those are traditional shooters. What are you, born in 2001 or something?

Are you serious? CoD? GoW? Please explain what's better about them to me then. Halo alone craps all over the list cause it actually offers some freedom and choices in the combat(and I agree it offers better combat compared to ME, only one that you mention that does though). CoD is just a long hallway of enemies that die after one hit. So please kind sir, explain to me what makes the combat in BF3/GoW3/CoD(any, they are all the same) "better" than, let's say, ME2/3?

Battlefield 3 is better...in every regard.

CoD is just boring.

Gears of War does TPS shooting better than ME. That's just a fact.

I'd say EA's cleaned up their act compared to earlier years.

They aren't activision.

After the huge and rather shocking disappointment that was Dragon Age 2, im NOT going to pre-order Mass Effect 3. But im following the game closely to see if its been dumbed down or not and will maybe buy it later on depending on friends reviews and forum reviews etc.

I wasnt disappointed by the demo though, even though the dialog options felt rather thin, the combat was really good.

The biggest issue is the FOV, which honestly made me feel ill after only a few minutes. Cant buy it until that have been fixed.

COD has become stale, there is no argument there. I agree with you on BF3 and Gears and if that makes me a mindless husk, so be it.

Pretty much summed up my feeling on the demo.

The framerate was so bad on the Xbox 360 version.

Just got off of earth. This isn't the Mass Effect that Casey wrote, I just hope all of the cliches is placeholder dialogue but I doubt they'd voice act it if it were. The attempts to sound cool and the stupid dialogue actually made me physically ill. It's difficult to explain why since it's all about the delivery and the style and the way it seems to be following some kind of culture of cliche action movies so it kind of requires concept to be taught and some personal background of movie history...

I played through the demo twice.

As soon as I started the game, one thing grabbed my attention: the menus were extremely clunky. It felt like it was going at less than 24fps, more like 12 fps. It was almost difficult trying to navigate my way through the settings and buttons, it was so unresponsive. Ok, it's no big deal. On to the game. I'm greeted with "action mode", "RPG mode" and "story mode". What. The. Hell. So action mode is an absolute insult to the genre, the developers, and the game itself. Story mode would have sounded interesting, except it's basically super easy mode. The only viable choice is "RPG mode".

Also,  wow, ugly textures. What's worse is the framerate felt very inconsistent in some bits. There was a close up of one of the human council's face, the woman I think, and I was scared my xbox was going to crash, the framerate got so bad. The face textures are on the whole well detailed, but the clothing/armour detail looks extremely jarring and outdated.

Also, the writing is absolutely terrible. It is cliched as hell. Stuff like "you can't help me", "let's get the hell outta here!" and "thanks, I owe you one" makes me cringe. The forced drama BS with the kid in the vents, only to be killed by a Reaper, was just lame. No I'm not offended by kids getting killed. It's just dumb in this context all together. All the characters have changed drastically. Ashley unexplainably got a boob job, and has makeup. Same with Liara. Wrex just comes off as whiny, instead of a calm, brooding badass. When the krogan female snatched the shotgun out of his hands and shot down two cerberus soldiers (it was a claymore heavy shotgun, and she used it like it was an automatic shotgun, talk about inconsistency) Wrex's line "huh, women" was just so unbelievably cringe inducing. And now, Reapers, being machine gods that exterminate the galaxy every 50,000 years, are end level minibosses.

Also, it appears the dialogue options have been cut down dramatically, to cater to a more casual, younger audience. There's a clear cut good and evil choice, and that's it. No middle branch. No "investigate" on the left hand side. It's far too simplisitic. What's worse is that this game is 90% cutscene and 10% dialogue, if you get what I mean. Shepard speaks of his own accord far more than the player gets to control him. The michael bay-esque camera is also annoying as hell. I'd prefer it if I just played the game, rather than have wierd, goofy fish eye distortion effects every time there's an explosion.

Finally, the gameplay is horrible. The animations are extremely jerky and unnatural looking. The controls are very unresponsive. it feels like it's trying to be Gears of War, but it fails in every single aspect. It doesn't have the tight, fluid gameplay to match. It feels horribly floaty and rigid. The enemy AI is also really bad. They literally just stand there and take it. They don't try to be aggressive or flank you. They just stand/sit where they are, idly, like vegetables. The level design is also far too linear. Corridor, corridor, corridor. Some very convenient explosions causing walkways to appear miraculously before Shepard. Anderson screams "RELOAD. GET IN COVER. FOLLOW ME. THERE'S A LADDER THERE", like Shepard is autistic or something.

It screams of console port.

Those of you who say "but it's just a demo!", "it will get patched" etc are completely deluded. Mass Effect 2 was a great game, but the stripping down of RPG elements was a foreshadowing of this. Dragon Age 2 was the last straw. PC gamers have to put up with awful Origin.

I'm not telling you to get on the bioware hate bandwagon, what I am doing is making to light some very serious issues, with this game and Bioware itself.

I agree with some points OP made, explicitly the texture work and writing. Writing in the demo is too basic not even like a bioware game. But I have no idea if op is serious about Control and enemy AI?

Yeah I was serious. Maybe I had bad luck with the AI, if I try again they might be better.

As for controls, I was playing on console, and it just felt so awful. There was stick drift. I mean come on. I know my controller is kind of old but stick drift!?!? It's a relic of the past. And shepard...  I don't know, he felt like he was just floating around above the ground, rather than actually moving.

You tell me.

To be honest you just come across as immature without any rebuttal or capacity to contribute to the discussion, simply because you read something you don't like.

The term "kid" and "kiddo" have been thrown around far too much in this thread, it's almost nauseating.

Well, I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one who was greatly disappointed with the demo. I already made a rant-ish post about on my blog so I'm not going to repeat myself here.

I'm sure I'll get the usual excuses... "It's an early build! It's just a demo! You can't judge the final game by the demo!" but at this point I just don't care. I'm not going to spend $59.99 blindly on a game whose demo had such little impact on me (and I should point out that the purpose of a demo is help you decide whether or not to buy the full version).

I couldnt agree more. And how it comes that the normandy could actually escape the reaper fleet who attacked the earth?

Blame Mac Walters. The quality of scriptwriting has deteriorated immensely. Random kid gets blown up, Vega isn't introduced properly, he's just some guy Shepard seems to know somehow, unexplainably, and the classic line "We fight, or we die".

paragon shepard feels like some ****goty white knight. Haven't tried renegade yet, might be alright. Paragon shep feels like some guy trying but kind of failing awkwardly to be a lawful good type of character, rather than someone who is moderate and as fair as possible.

It wasn't THAT bad.

Most of my grief with the demo is of a small sort. It follows as such:

A: If you decide to try out Infiltrator, you get to be an Infiltrator WITHOUT A SNIPER RIFLE. COME ON, BIOWARE!

B: The weapon kick on the SMG is overkill and it completely ruins that branch of guns. It is also so sluggish regardless of weapon that compensating for it is a full-time job in itself. What gives?

C: There is absolutely no sense of weight. ME1 and ME2 had a great sense of weight, and it felt like you were moving a real, physical presence around. ME3 seems to throw that out for a faster pace? I guess the faster gameplay is good and all but it feels too artificial now. Furthermore, the movement controls are so hypersensitive that it picks up my worn out Xbox controller's left analog stick while it's resting at its slightly off-center neutral position. That isn't an issue in most games, except that in ME3 it completely sabotages you, doing everything from making Sheperd suddenly swerve right several paces while in cover to making her roll in the wrong direction. Can we... get a sensitivity slider for movement too, please?

Besides that, I have no real hate for the content included. It was pretty much what I expected it to be and a bit more, for better or worse. Nevertheless I will be getting the game on release! The story certainly has hooked me in once again.
