Greetings y'all,
Me myself is using a Rog as main and my ideal group formation would be,
myself - dps rog
wynne - healer
morrigan - cc / backup healer
? - tank
For the tank role, im choosing which one to be the role, either Alistair or Shale.
Any advise on which one would make a better tank?
Choosing a Tank-ish Companion?

Shale, by far. Alistair whines too much and requires too much maintenance, even if you boost his constitution.

I prefer Shale and/or sten, since 2h weapon wielders got some nice ability's that come in handy sometimes, Alistair is nice in the beginning, but even with his shield ability's he somehow goes down way to fast. and Shale simply rocks!(litteraly sometimes) he's got great melee abilty's and if needed u can switch him to ranged to do some damage before u send him in. altrough he only has 2 range attacks, they are quite effective
just make sure u program his tactics good, otherwise he'll never use the ability's when u want it without u doing it manually(like shattering a frozen enemie with slam.)
btw, make sure your 2 mages got completly different spells to use(aside from the healing spell(s)
like get ice, sleep and hex chain with morrigan and turn her in a blood mage, while whynn uses support spells and maybe let her get the fireball spell. glyph spells also are good.
As a rogue, both range and dualwield are nice, i like wirlwind attack a lot! as long as i got good weapons it rocks

I'm not exactly sure about this, but Shale can take flanking hits, whilst Alistair can be specced to avoid that. I prefer Alistair, he isn't as noisy as Shale, and doesn't get in the way. He may express his opinions, but he's a goodhearted man. If you have trouble with that, then ignore him or pick Shale
... although, nowadays I prefer my elven tank ^^

Apparently since he's a Dwarf you can fairly easily get him to 100% Spell Resistance leaving you only to worry about Physical Resistance...

100% spell resistance? That sounds promising.

Plus I think Ogrhen is worth it for the good conversation alone.

Alistar is by far the best tank, not including your PC, which will always be the best (my PC tank could take a room of 30 enemies on normal difficulty with 2 normal health poultices).
Get strength to the minimum required for the best armour, which is 42. But you can find a mace that gives +3 strength, and other +strength items, so you only need to get it to ~39 tops.
Then I'd recommend putting a few points in willpower and con. I had some nice armor on my tank with stamina regen, so I didn't touch willpower. Con is nice, but you never need more than 20.
Everything else goes into dexterity.
With Shield Wall + Shield Expertise, you never get knocked down, an awesome help. Also get Shield Mastery, which gives you a nice boost to all your shield skills. Getting that you'll have to get Shield tactics, which is another great skill.
You'll need Taunt and Threaten.
Alistar comes with Shield Pummel and Shield Bash which are good.
Assault is nice, as is the rest.
class wise, go Champion/Templar, but if you're playing as a PC, consider Reaver and Berserker. Berserker gives a lil' health regen, and extra damage, I found it useful myself.
Champion's basically a requirement for a tank. Rally + Motivate are awesome for a tank, and Warcry is a nice crowd control move.
