Is anybody else sick of Bioware making the Asari be the galaxy's wet dream?

Oh look another anti-asari thread on bsn. Only on the bsn would people hate a race composed entirely of beautiful women.

When you grow up you won't be so shallow, hun, and you'll realize there is more to beauty than looks. (the asari don't even have that going for them most of the time)

Asari really push my ability to suspend my disbelief and take Mass Effect seriously. Still, I forgive them because I know where the devs were coming from.

Mainly though, they just aren't terribly interesting.

You are once again incorrectly making assumptions about me.  If all I cared about was looks I would be a Miranda fan.  I obviously am not a Miranda fan.  I find both Samara and Liara to be interesting squadmates (not because of their looks but because of their indivdual backstories etc..)  I only made the "beautiful women" comment because that is all bsn seems to focus on and whine about.

It's OK, nothing wrong with liking guys. Don't take it out on the poor Asari though.

It's not about liking guys or not.  I just believe that it is ridiculous to believe that there would be a universally desired race.  I also think that the ME3 dancer scene should be with human dancers and not Asari.  I  think about all the past times we've seen Asari dancers, like the Bachelor's party on Illium (Eternity? I think was the name of the bar) and can't help but feel pissed off about it.  Three races (human, salarian, and turian) ogling some stupid Asari.  Wish I could have put a bullet in it's head.

It's gotten to the point where I just want to go Renegade on all Asari and where I take more pleasure than I should in killing them.

Why? What's there to be "pissed" about?

You need to get out more. Maybe find a nice special someone to "embrace eternity" with this Valentines Day. Hopefully come back refreshed and armed with perspective. Then you can save your anger for something worthy of it.

Also Ilium was an asari world. We saw human and asari hookers at the Consort's place.

Lastly asari aren't lesbians. Most of the time they don't hook up with each other.

Yup. Because the only thing Miranda has going for her are the looks. No personality or character whatsoever.

Lol.  Actually, the answer is the next line, the fact that three different races are ogling that Asari.  It just further shows Bioware's obsession with making sure we, the players, know that the Asari are universally desired.  And it's this obsession with making sure we see the Asari as this universally liked species that I just dispise.  It's like Bioware's saying "Yeah, everybody loves our beautiful Asari:wub:.  Yes, everybody:lol:.  Everybody:huh:.  EVERY DAMN BODY god damn it <_
Just makes me roll my eyes :pinched:

I don't think that's what the person meant. But obviously she's supposed to be the most physically appealing female character, so if that's all someone cared about, then they would like her for that aspect alone, regardless of her personality.

If all he wanted was a pretty face he could go after Ashley or Liara.

I'm tired of the general Miranda = hawt, no character.

Yeah, why not, right?  It's completely illogical that the idea of "sexiness" would be the same thing for all species.  Why is sexiness only the human view of it?  I'm sure any intelligent species would have their equivalent of sex workers and even though they wouldn't turn a human on, I would still prefer to see that than this humanized vision of what sexiness is.

It makes Bioware seem to lack imagination.

You hate asari because there are asari dancers on an asari world?

...Can we please destroy earth in ME3!

Sick of it, as some might be, sex sells. If I have to go to work and sell products to males; then you can tolerate the Asari.

Not in the slightest. I laugh IRL when I see Miranda dipping into the uncanny valley. It's an admitted fact that it's a bug with the lighting that makes her look that way in ME2. L.A. Noire is ripe with this same problem, particularly on nighttime levels and other various low-light areas.

PMC65 hit the nail on the head, I think. You only have asari and humans because...
  • Female krogan are too valuable to share amongst their own species, let alone the galaxy.
  • Female salarians are rare, and too busy playing politics with matrilineal dynasties.
  • Female turians, from what little we've seen, are too involved in military things.
  • Female quarians, like all quarians, are uncommon outside the Migrant Fleet.
This is all from an in-universe perspective, of course. On the storytelling side, asari are more common because it helps the idea of an alien universe without making it necessary to design a bunch of exotic females.

The fact that you don't see asari as simple one-dimensional "sirens," and instead as actual individuals with layers of substance that are simply squandered in night clubs, is just a testament to BioWare's storytelling capabilities. They've given depth to what would be an otherwise shallow portrayal, such that the dancers et cetera are just peripheral by this point. I've never been this rabidly huge fan of the asari -- more of a quarian/salarian/turian person myself -- but as far as asari go, people like the bartender, the police officer, and the Justicars stand out more in my mind.
