PMC65 hit the nail on the head, I think. You only have asari and humans because...This is all from an in-universe perspective, of course. On the storytelling side, asari are more common because it helps the idea of an alien universe without making it necessary to design a bunch of exotic females.
- Female krogan are too valuable to share amongst their own species, let alone the galaxy.
- Female salarians are rare, and too busy playing politics with matrilineal dynasties.
- Female turians, from what little we've seen, are too involved in military things.
- Female quarians, like all quarians, are uncommon outside the Migrant Fleet.
The fact that you don't see asari as simple one-dimensional "sirens," and instead as actual individuals with layers of substance that are simply squandered in night clubs, is just a testament to BioWare's storytelling capabilities. They've given depth to what would be an otherwise shallow portrayal, such that the dancers et cetera are just peripheral by this point. I've never been this rabidly huge fan of the asari -- more of a quarian/salarian/turian person myself -- but as far as asari go, people like the bartender, the police officer, and the Justicars stand out more in my mind.

If you were playing Mass Effect and you saw a female Turian striping I don't know that you'd be able to tell if it was Female, same thing with Salarians, Elcor, and Krogan.
The Asari were designed to have the figure and frame of a female human. So there for the only Female dancers you find are Human and Asari.
Granted Bioware could maybe introduce some Female Drell, or maybe Batarians with a figure and frame like a human female.
Straight men are far more likely to find an alien attractive if she resembles a human female it's something they can relate to.

I'm pretty sure in ME2 we see more quarian females than we do males.

There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be seeing female turians everywhere. We ought to be running into batarian females too, at least as civilians.

Yeah, it's hilarious how Bioware occasionally "forgets" to include females of a species if they aren't attractive (or even if they aren't conventionally attractive). See also: female dwarves in DA2.

However, instead of blaming the creation and wanting to commit genocide on the race in-game, it just makes me want to write a strongly-worded letter to BioWare.

I don't really follow the Star Wars universe.
As for what you are saying, why does it matter that I can tell if a turian is female or not? The ME universe should not be a universe with only things that humans are familiar with. That's what I love about space. You don't know what's out there. Space is so huge you feel that anything is possible. Why limit yourself and your universe to things human know ("Oh, that's a woman. That's a man. Oh I can't create that because I've never seen it before!" etc)
When I see animals, I never know if it's a male or a female. Why do we need to know? I've already said that I would prefer seeing sex workers of the other races, even (especially!) if they would not turn humans on. I don't care about humans. I know humans. I want a Sci Fi universe that presents me things I don't know, a universe that's full of imagination. I want to see someone's idea of what a sex worker from a non humanoid species would look like, how the routine would go, what noises and sounds it would produce, etc. Like a documentary on animals except on these aliens.
All I see with Bioware are humanoids that look like humans, males and females, Earth-like populations, etc. I created a topic in the General Discussions forums about my feelings of Bioware's lack of imagination, you can check it out there so I will stop talking about it here.
Yeah, I know the Asari were designed to turn the human male on. I don't care about the human male nor about the Asari. Why must sex workers appeal to human males? Why must they be feminine in form? Why must they be humanoid?

Yes, I knew you would reply with that. First off, being convinced to buy a game because of possibility of seeing human-like dancers is just sad. Do you reall think that there are people who are on the fence about buying a ME game and then find out about this all-female race and go "Oh well, that did it. Now I just have to get this game!!" I honestly don't believe that there are a lot of those.
Secondly, even if that's the reason for creating the Asari, does there exist a rule that says that if your going to make one race of aliens appeal to humans that ALL other races must also appeal physically to humans? They already have the Asari. What would be so bad about seeing a Turian dancer? Do you believe that that will turn potential purchasers off. Not everything in life is going to turn you on or appeal to you. I don't understand you argument that you must be turned on by these fictional dancers or else you wouldn't want to play the game.
I personally would love to see stripping ewoks! That's not something you see everyday or in every fictional universe! I'm someone that loves culture and diversity (and imagination!) and if Ewoks really did exist, I would be honored and feel so lucky to be able to see their mating rituals.
Am I the only one that doesn't need everything to remind me of Earth or of humans or of our own limited vision of the universe? Because it sure sounds like I am.

I did not buy the game for stripping, this isn't Leisure Suit Larry, but you asked why the strippers were asari ... I answered. As well as why you probably wouldn't see other species. But you are not looking for answers or even to discuss. You want your stripping EWOK, dammit!
Well then ... I am sure that a game will come out for you that has stripping ewoks. If there already isn't one.

I guess the issue is this: do gamers only want what they've been served, things that are so familiar to what they already know, or are there any that want more, that want more imaginative things?
I read science fiction and watch science fiction books because the universe is just so big and mysterious, and I love seeing other people's ideas as to what could be out there. Scifi makes me dream, and I'm sorry to say that I don't dream about things I already know about or am familiar with.
I guess your reply ("Well, gamers are human so EVERYTHING must be human-like) confirms that no, people aren't like me and don't want things they are unable to imagine. They want more of the same, more of the "Save teh Earth for the millionth time", more of that formulaic Hollywood formula.
Ok. Yeah, you want your human-like strippers. You want your aliens speaking english all the time to you. I guess I must be a weird case.

I know it's not your quote, but that's how I interpret and summarize what you say. You say you don't want Ewoks because they don't fit your definition of "sexy", which apparently the Asari do. You also justify the use of the Asari because "it's humans that purchase the game", implying that humans need to feel attraction to Asari in order for the game to sell.
I deduct that you reason that in order for the game to sell, humans must be attracted to its offerings, in other words that everything else needs to appeal to humans as well, as they are the customers of the game. And since everything that is not human-like (things humans can't relate to) are not what you consider appealing (Ewok stripping), is the quote I used to summarize what you wrote really so far off from what you believe? It wasn't a real quote but my interpretation of what you had said, so I apologize for not having made it more clear.
I don't hate the game, I haven't played it yet. I am just disappointed that it is so conventional, and even more so that such conventionality is wanted by the majority. Finally, my talking about english is just to say that it is a convention that is overused (the aliens that magically speak our language) and that that is something I've come to realize people actual ask for instead of something more creative and imaginative (and realistic).
Edit: I meant, "summarize" instead of resume.

The aliens aren't speaking human, english or otherwise ... I can't remember who or where I read it but the reason that Shepard can understand the other species is due to having a translator. I'm sure some other poster can pull the actual info from the air. Since I love sub-titled movies it would not bother me if we heard their real language and subtitles were used but others would hate it. That's okay, I have my imagination anyway when needed.

No I didn't have to go to the Animale House example but for the sake of the OP I did.
For some reason OP don't understand that some abstract idea such as an alien that has no body but yet a head, a tree stump for an @ss, and it's naughty bits are made up of an upwards flowing lava stream, along with an inverted upside down backwards strip dance as a stripper is just too far out there for most people to see it as anything other than a bad acid trip or a lame idea.
