So Ashly went from strong marine chick to a Meranda like fighting model.

We're tired of reading the same trash every week, with the same responses, the same people, about the same topic that has a marginal 65% error for the main game.

put that **** in a bulky sweat suit. God forbid she potentially be confident in her body and wear stuff that flatters it. GOD FORBID!

I just think it reflects the entire series.

Mass Effect 1 was down-to-earth, pseudorealistic some might say. Seemed and felt like it could actually be a viable future and real world. Big open cities, weapons and powers that equally affect everyone, more complex gameplay. I even believe remembering some actual scientists speculating about the game about what could be real and what not.

Then came Mass Effect 2 with its levels fully designed for a shooter game, handholding and forgiving gameplay, people surviving great falls, making people wear completely unbelievable clothes in space and slapping the logos of a secret organization on top the overalls and ships, sidemissions that revolve around different gimmicks... And on top of it all Mako that seems like a bit modified AV surveying planets by driving over the rough terrain compared to Hammerhead that is made to jumping on rocks inside volcanoes. Not forgetting revival of Shepard. No need to ask anyone if there is any truth to this. Mass Effect 2 just screams "I'm a game"

So I'm not all that surprised if it turns out Shepard can actually survive without oxygen, he can change weapons with the ones in his locker in the middle of desert or something as stupid. Maybe Shepard learns to fly after trying some Reaper technology and Saren comes back from the dead so they can face in epic aerial hand-to-hand battle. I think Bioware has proven that Mass Effect 3 will be a "game" that is full of eye candy, illogicalities, handholding and more.

Thing is that at the time of ME1 the series seemed way more believable than Gears of War or Halo, but at this point it's just as unrealistic, unbelievable and unimmersive. The worst part is that this series started as something else. I can't do nothing but blame the publisher change.

We already had characters like Miranda in a catsuit with long hair and make up. We also had Jack with that whatever that was she was wearing to cover her nipples. Liara's outfit doesn't seem bulletproof either. Should I mention breathing masks? No, better not.

The thing is though, Ashley's appearance is MUCH more realistic than either of those you mentioned. That's why I think it's unfair to compare her to them in terms of what they are wearing.

Also, @iakus, I agree to an extent.  I remember, I had the same reaction when I first saw Ashley's new look because I thought she looked great the way she was.  I thought "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"  However, I have come to terms with the change.  It could be worse and I don't think its a huge stretch to see her character with some makeup on and her hair down, especially in a casual context such as the one in which we first see her again. She is a woman afterall (meaning it shouldn't seem so odd to anyone) and we didn't create the character, BioWare did.

If they felt they needed to change that aspect of her to draw in new fans, then that is a reflection on our society as much as it is BioWare's thought process.  Putting context aside though, I think she looks great.

I agree, I actually thought she was Miranda for a moment in the demo cut scene when you first see her.

This indeed made me ponder, thought she looked fine before.

Well I guess they're just keeping the series fresh :3

Exactly.  Especially since you are not accomplishing anything with being passionate about it, you are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Not talking about her armor. I'm talking about her hair not being tied up, and the makup she is wearing. It bothers the hell out of me. Which is why I mentioned above that if I use her, I am making her use a helmet. That forces her hair to be tied up, and I can pretend that she cares more about the war than looking pretty.

So because her hair isn't up, she doesn't care as much? I give up. You sound like you're role playing with a barbie doll

You tend to be passionate about these things when you live in a miltary family.  I don't want a barbie doll, I want the ashley I know back. Ashley is military to the bone, and its the small details like this that count (along with the fact that her writer left) that make me feel like her character isn't being respected.

The more you know. :wizard:

aww, sexy marine chicks, Sheperds one true weakness. So what if Ashley lets her hair down? If you want the bun-look go play mass effect 1 (hell maybe they'll release a second alternate for her one day). If you liked Ashley's personality in the first game then the new look shouldn't bother you that much...

Ah yes, those who like style over substance.

Seriously though telling us to "just play ME1" isn't great advice. AT ALL. So we shouldn' voice our displeasure? No thank you.

On the contrary the very fact that I like ashley's personality is why I dislike the outfit. but my focus on ashley isn't the outfit right now. Its how she isn't acting like the soldier she should be.

C'mon now.

According to Ash in the demo she, "used to know you [Sheperd]." How do you know her personality hasn't changed since ME1? She could have a different personlity now (I'm sure you'd agree), but she can't have a new look? it sounds like you want the old ME1 Ashley back. . .but I think she has changed a lot since then. You can dislike those changes if you want to, but I don't think it's productive. People change, you kinda have to accept that, whether you like it or not.

Don't know anyone from the military? Some things just don't change.

Bioware admitted back in ME2 that they hated some of the mistakes they made with military gestures. (Like a certain soldier saluting with the wrong hand...)

If bioware is emberassed by a mistake like that, then they should feel emberassed about ashley not tying her hair up.

If you look at the demo closely, you'll see that it's not really a catsuit. It looked like a top and matching pants to me, there was some sort of distinction and separation around her waist area.

I think Mass Effect 1 aspired to be a true homage to old science fiction films.

ME2 however wasn't trying to be anything like that. Indeed it just wanted to be a good game. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I find it less interesting.

Nostalgia, it's a hell of a drug. "viable future" where all the machines can be hacked by smearing "omni-gel" on them. I did like the "big open cities" but I'm, a space-marine, not a tourist. Don't even get me started on the weapons (i hated having to "liquidate" my equipment in omni--gel because my inventory and wallet filled up--such a chore). I agree with you about the powers--Biotic Godhood at its finest in that game--but it really wasn't that great of a game. It may be more action-packed now, but the combat feels less like LARP. You know what I'm talking about. It was too RPG focused--like D&D with guns. but this is off-topic.

When it comes to the aesthetic changes of the game: they also made Liara's boobs like two cup-sizes bigger (they're massive now). . . is that also a change you dislike?

That was already mentioned in the thread actually.

Hey, it could be worse. She could have a bun/ponytail that makes it look like she's got an oblong-shaped head.

-_- if your going to criticize people's heads I suggest you start with Liara--**** has no ears (and it freaks me out)--that bun made her look like a sexy librarian BTW. A sexy racist firearm librarian :)

I'm refering to the buns/ponytails that femShep can have in the demo, not Ashley's. It looks like someone extended the back of femShep's head and slapped a bun on the end. In comparison, loose hair doesn't actually seem so bad to me anymore. Colour me a believer. Liara on the other hand, is supposed to look like an alien.

In ME1 she was a grunt and is now a Lt. Commander. It's what happens.

EDIT:  People will complain about anything these days.

They're mostly upset because of the decision from Bioware to up her casual look because of a few panty shots and the art change description to make her sexier.
