So Ashly went from strong marine chick to a Meranda like fighting model.

This again?

Yeah the catsuit is ridiculous, Ashley should have got the same regulation Alliance uniform just like Kaidan but she didn't and for the reason why we don't have to look any further than her art book blurb; Bioware wanted her to look sexy. To them that means a boob job, long hair falling in her face and a skin tight outfit.

Because of fan reaction they caved enough to give her proper armour. Yes it's a re-colour of FemShep's ME2 default and I'll be shocked if they haven't shoved heels on the boots but let's just chalk this one up as a victory and move on.

I would contribute to this topic, but I feel like anything that could be said about the issue has already been said. It was a purely marketing decision. Frankly, I don't understand it at all. Liara worked just fine as a covergirl for ME1. Why not use her again?

I never liked either of them, and finally got tired of listining to the board.  So I used the save editor and killed off Ashley.

Feels good bro.

Mass Effect 2 just screams "I'm a game"

I think Mass Effect 1 aspired to be a true homage to old science fiction films.

ME2 however wasn't trying to be anything like that. Indeed it just wanted to be a good game. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I find it less interesting.

Thing is that at the time of ME1 the series seemed way more believable than Gears of War or Halo, but at this point it's just as unrealistic, unbelievable and unimmersive. The worst part is that this series started as something else. I can't do nothing but blame the publisher change.

I agree completely.

I think it's really well put and as a big fan of the first game I agree completely. :)

Some people just can't read. Or they choose to ignore points when convenient.

Same difference.

In ME1 she was a grunt and is now a Lt. Commander. It's what happens.

EDIT:  People will complain about anything these days.

Then why isn't she wearing an alliance uniform? If you havn't noticed, all other alliance personnel wear some rather fetching uniforms that actually have some sort of common consistency between them.

Even kaiden.

Yeah, but there are plenty of good games that do either shooting or story better. Mass Effect could have been a great cult game, but it's logical especially EA doesn't want that. Microsoft Game Studios could have benefitted from a series that has a loyal cult following.

Change is the thing that bothers me the most though.

@whoever replied me. Yes ME1 wasn't perfect either but the base was there. Even today people are trying to standardize everything (some oppose sure) so I dont find the concept of omni-gel too unbelievable. Also even if I am a space marine the cities are still big and the world isn't built with gunfights in mind. Especially if I'm a Spectre or Cerberus operative who is given free hands and practically infinite time to do as I please.

Sure making a shooter game with levels that really aren't made with shooting in mind is somewhat counter-productive, but I still preferred having a shootout in a nightclub or open valley than having every battleground filled with chesthigh boxes.

So because she's more physically attractive she's no longer a good soldier? Right, great logic OP.

And to be fair, she doesn't look like a model. She has her casual gear (which doesn't show too much) and her combat armour, which is, (surprise) ARMOUR! Her hair is long now. Get over it people. It's seriously not a big deal.

I wouldn't go patting yourself on the back. I remember before all this outrage happened that Casey tweeted Ash would have armor, yet everyone refused to believe it or just plain ignored it. So they always intended for her to have armor. I think all the whining just made them push it out sooner.

aww, sexy marine chicks, Sheperds one true weakness. So what if Ashley lets her hair down? If you want the bun-look go play mass effect 1 (hell maybe they'll release a second alternate for her one day). If you liked Ashley's personality in the first game then the new look shouldn't bother you that much...

Ah yes, those who like style over substance.

Seriously though telling us to "just play ME1" isn't great advice. AT ALL. So we shouldn' voice our displeasure? No thank you.

On the contrary the very fact that I like ashley's personality is why I dislike the outfit. but my focus on ashley isn't the outfit right now. Its how she isn't acting like the soldier she should be.

C'mon now.

According to Ash in the demo she, "used to know you [Sheperd]." How do you know her personality hasn't changed since ME1? She could have a different personlity now (I'm sure you'd agree), but she can't have a new look? it sounds like you want the old ME1 Ashley back. . .but I think she has changed a lot since then. You can dislike those changes if you want to, but I don't think it's productive. People change, you kinda have to accept that, whether you like it or not.

Don't know anyone from the military? Some things just don't change.

Bioware admitted back in ME2 that they hated some of the mistakes they made with military gestures. (Like a certain soldier saluting with the wrong hand...)

If bioware is emberassed by a mistake like that, then they should feel emberassed about ashley not tying her hair up.

LOL, insert "Jacob is a tool comment here."

No I don't know anyone from the military. I also don't know any "space-marines or spectres", but her hair style isn't as annoying to me as Jacob's saluting. God, That military regulation stuff is what makes me glad I'm not playing COD or Battlefield. Characters like Jacob and Ashley can get fed up with military bureaucracy and join, cerberus, or the spectres.

This story takes place almost two hundered years in the future. Jacob wants to wear a super-tight leather catsuit, and I'm cool with that. Ashley wants to wear clothes that don't make her look like a boy and I'm cool with that. Things do change, and I'm cool with that. It's the future, anything is possible, and all those cliches, etc, etc. I don't know what to say anymore.

They live in a different time than we do, if she wants to let her hair down before the world ends, I'm okay with it. . . I'm not going to criticize her for not following her training anymore that I would Anderson for "reinstating" Sheperd out-side of proper military protocol. Regulations and protocols seem silly at a time when a race of giant space ships are attacking your home world.

Right...which is why it took months for a screen shot to show up and why the CE re-colours of everyone's armour has Ashley still in the catsuit.

EDIT:  I don't know why she isn't, or if she isn't...  I didn't ask her.  I can assume a dozen reasons that would make perfect sense though.  I've been around the military enough to know they aren't always wearing their uniforms 24/7 and that sometimes different branches have *gasp* diffferent uniforms.

On my fresh ME1 run, I'm actually considering leaving Ashley to die fighting with Kirrahe and company. It makes more sense to me to leave them and head back and protect the nuke anyway, considering the entire Virmire mission hinges on that facility being blown to high hell.

Of course Kaidan does say the nuke will go off anyway, but I think it's better to be safe than sorry (as does my Ruthless Shep).

I like the new Ashley, she looks like she's grown over the years, and like most women, gotten a bit better with age. Am I disappointed that she isn't wearing full combat gear while at an office building? Nope.

Honestly, having been in the process of replaying ME1 lately...

Ash would definitely dress up sexy when she had time. Like, damn clearly. She may have been a soldier, but she was flirtatious and quite confident in herself.

Anyhow, on the subject of realism... eh. I prefer the halfway point, where you take "realism" and then just adjust it some for style.

No-one is bothered that they made Liara's boobs like twice as big since ME2?

I'm not complaining, I like. . .well I'm not complaining. . .

Because she is alien and aliens are for nerds. It's all about muscle packed humans fighting monsters and robots, with hot chicks for eye candy. Thank you EA.
