So Ashly went from strong marine chick to a Meranda like fighting model.

I do not care about real life marines and how they have their hair. It is not a documentary, it's a game based on science fiction. Hell throw in a Yoda or two and I would not be crying rivers over it. I like the way Ashley looks now. I need no more reason than that.

Your quite welcome to call me every name under the sun for having such an up front and honest opinion expressed on liking what they did with her appearance in ME3 just for more pleasing visual and I can't see myself changing views on that.

Ah yes, the marine pride thing. I have a friend who went through boot camp. I offered to let him stay at my house while he got back on his feet after being medically discharged. Took a month before I got so fed up of his ego that I told him to shutup about the marines or find an apartment.

So he was discharged right after boot camp?  If he was, then I can totally see what you mean. That attitude is not uncommon for Marines fresh out of basic.  The attitude and ego are great when fighting a war, but not so great if trying to live as a civilian.

After serving for a while, however, Marines tend to calm down a bit and be a little more rational and not so obnoxiously fanatical--still prideful, mind you, but not arrogant.  Of course, it depends on the person too.

Aaaaand this thread is officially off topic.....

I wouldn't really defend the current system as rational -- we've had too many idiotic interservice fights in the USA for me to buy it.

The alilance isn't just a branch of military, its humanities INTERGALACTIC government. The alliance essentially rules humanity, and deals with diplomacy for all aliens, and for humans who have broken away from the alliance.

You see the alliance started out as a simple combined effort by earth to create a unified military force to fight pirates. When the turians invaded, the alliance fleet acted without orders and fought back, essentially creating a new government to rule by.

It makes perfect sense for the alliance to control the military as we know it. Its not just a fleet now, its essentially the combined human government.

I mean come on. The best part of Ashly was that she was a soldier first.  Now she wears mackup into battle and has a neet little outfit to run around in.  Bioware has always had its eyecandy female characters.  Just sad they decided to take one of their female characters that was not that and make her into one...

Here's hoping the modding community can give Ash a real Alliance uniform to walk around in rather than that survivor of a Crayola explosion she's currently stuck wearing.Image IPB

Kaidan, being a guy, seems to have avoided that fate.

Hopefully the modding community can get rid of that makeup she's wearing as well.

Wow so OP is complain that Ash looks more like a female officer now then a front line soldier,.... love the new look, glad the ugly armor is gone, a least now she looks like a woman and less like a boy. Don't see anyone complaining a bout Laira's boob job...

She doesn't look like an officer, she looks like a pornstar and she DID look like a woman in the first game. Liara was already sexed up a bit in the first game

The only major differences with Ashley is that she wears here hair long and then people freak out.

Omg ashley is sexed up. God forbid she has hooters and make up. This is so not like her because she's real and I know her personally.

That's funny you say that becuse there's a girl I've "known" for a few years (friends a few years back and now co workers) who looks very very similar to ashley and is a bit of a tomboy to boot. In fact she sounds a lot like Ashley too, even tho her voice actor is not anything like her. Really strange.

Ever since this topic poped up, you know the first time and the time after that and the time after that... Anyway ever since then I am wondering why I absolutely don't care about this. I mean I would love to equip every character with whichever armor I liked and have them wear it but I really don't care if it stays the way it is right now. Maybe you can blame that on me growing up with JRPGs where no matter what you equiped your character with they would still appear as some 18 year old chick with long blonde hair and make up wearing a green swimsuit to save the world.
But the real question is why does anybody still care?
We already had characters like Miranda in a catsuit with long hair and make up. We also had Jack with that whatever that was she was wearing to cover her nipples. Liara's outfit doesn't seem bulletproof either. Should I mention breathing masks? No, better not.
What I am saying is this game doesn't want to be realistic, or atleast not as realistic as some people here would wish. And why should it be? It is a freakin Space Opera. Just because it has an very deep and elaborate lore doesn't mean it has to be overly realistic for the sake of entertainment (and yes, sexy women are a part of entertainment, especially in Space Operas). Star Trek was very elaborate and I can't rember ever seeing Captain Kirk or in this case probably Uhura wear a piece of armor.

BTW: That the outfit is sexualized may not bother me but that doesn't mean that I don't find it to be butt ugly.

The paragraph under the bolded part answers your question.

Ash was the only female character who was hot without being an adolescant fantasy. She was both tough and attractive and looked. it. It's part of what made her special to the series. Bioware admits that the makeover was simply to add sex appeal. The took the closest thing to a realistic person on the team, a favorite character of mine, and gave her a superhero costume. I think that's a decent reason for being upset.

But then, I liked Ash back in ME1 before it was popular. When she was derided fro being a "racist zealot" and whatnot. I guess that makes me an "old fan" and therefore not part of the target demographic anymore

I can still see the outlines of some of the female figures in ME3 as well, so sorry BioWare I'll be canceling my pre-order.

This story takes place almost two hundered years in the future. Jacob wants to wear a super-tight leather catsuit, and I'm cool with that. Ashley wants to wear clothes that don't make her look like a boy and I'm cool with that.

You're forgetting one thing, Jacob and Ashley CAN'T choose what clothes they want to wear because THEY'RE NOT REAL PEOPLE. Jacob's catsuit and Ashley's ME3 causal wear are because the developers thought they need to look sexy and chose that look for them.

And again, ME1 Ashley DID NOT look like a boy, how many cis-boys do you know who wear their hair in buns and have breasts?

Bioware is simply giving the ME3 heroes an iconic look, which happens all the time in the video game and movie industry. It's hardly anything new or surprising. To be honest I prefer it over the boring work clothes they wore in the first game. Yeah I said it, Ash's work casual work attire in ME1 was boring. She looked just as sexy in ME1 in her default/medium/light armor as she does in ME3 with her casual iconic look. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I hardly agree she looks over-the-top sexy. And she's a woman, it's totally in character for a woman to want to look good. Every woman I've met is like that.

With regards to people who don't agree with me, that's cool. I'm down with freedom of expression. But honestly, in this forum, the sheer repetition of the complaints is counter-productive. I mean really, if some dude (or dudette) you're hanging out with is constantly complaining over and over again about the same stuff - you'll get tired of it quick even if you agree with them.  My advice, say what you got to say and get it out of your system. Bioware is either going to do something about your opinion or they're not, it's there for them to read. Getting repetitive or rude about it won't get your point across more effectively.

And that's why I advocate iconic themes over iconic looks.  Ash is a woman, yes.  But she's far more than that.  She's also a marine, a Spectre, an Alliance officer, etc.  I want a look that emphasizes these things.  I want a look that speaks to her role. as a warrior and a champoon of humanity.  The look we were given doesn't provide that.  It speaks only to Bioware's stated intent:  style and sex appeal.  I want substance.  Ash's ME1 look, and the variation that Kaidan and Shepard wear, speak to that far better.

IMO Bioware dropped the ball here, and someone else will have to pick it up.  That or we wait a year and pay more $$$

They can.  Ash did both quite well in ME1.  Style and functionality are not mutually exclusive.

But in ME3 they did all style and no substance to her look.

Oh for crying out loud the only real changes to Ashley is that she wears her hair long and she has a different casual outfit (that has a spectre logo on it btw)  Her actual armor looks like armor Shepard would wear and it is quite normal looking for combat armor.  So basicaly your beef is that she wears her hair differently now.
