So Ashly went from strong marine chick to a Meranda like fighting model.

They can.  Ash did both quite well in ME1.  Style and functionality are not mutually exclusive.

But in ME3 they did all style and no substance to her look.

wait because shes stylish she has no subtance?

And that's why I advocate iconic themes over iconic looks.  Ash is a woman, yes.  But she's far more than that.  She's also a marine, a Spectre, an Alliance officer, etc.  I want a look that emphasizes these things.  I want a look that speaks to her role. as a warrior and a champoon of humanity.  The look we were given doesn't provide that.  It speaks only to Bioware's stated intent:  style and sex appeal.  I want substance.  Ash's ME1 look, and the variation that Kaidan and Shepard wear, speak to that far better.

IMO Bioware dropped the ball here, and someone else will have to pick it up.  That or we wait a year and pay more $$$

Meh, Ash is a person who is a marine. I don't expect the marine to be turned on all the time. I know what Ash is from my experiences with her, not from what she wore. Now she looks like a cool chick with a distinctive look. Like, Han Solo or Princess Leia. It didn't bother me that Leia had to wear a bikini in Return of the Jedi 'cause I knew from my experiences watching her in the previous two movies she was a lot more than that bikini. Bioware didn't drop the ball here, they dipped ME3 in awesome sauce. But to each their own.

Wow so OP is complain that Ash looks more like a female officer now then a front line soldier,.... love the new look, glad the ugly armor is gone, a least now she looks like a woman and less like a boy. Don't see anyone complaining a bout Laira's boob job...

Ok then it is dumb that Liara got a boob job.

There's no boob-job, same size as before.

Her ME2 outfit however did accentuate her chesticle-area very well...

A badass marine chick is pretty cool, know what's even better? A badass hot as hell marine chick. IMO Ashley has too much clothes on, I'm sure by that time in the future they'll have the skin tight kevlar developed, where the hell is it?

Although looks of females in video games is quite perplexing, I can't imagine why developers would make them look sexy, what a very odd thing to do.

While It's amazing how changes to a characters hair can change perception. Also she is a higher ranked officer now, not just a grunt. A similar costume has shown up on other characters in the past. Didn't really notice the makeup have to go back and look at that

Then what's the point of the makeover at all, if the look is meaningless?

Giving a character a look is supposed to be a visual representation of who the character is and what they represent.  You and I know who Ash is, but ME3 is supposed to be "a great place to start"  What are newcomers supposed to think when they see her?  (get yer mind outta the gutter!)

Unique looks are why Aveline in DA2 wore heavy guardsman's armor.  that's why Jack is covered in tattoos.  That's why Shepard wears N7 armor.  It's why Grunt has blue eyes instead of red.

What does Ashley's outfit say besides "I have two X chromosomes?"

I'm not happy with the redesign, but I'll be able to deal with it. If nothing else the fact that Bioware finally gave Ashley armor and got rid of the awful white pants implies that they do actually remember (even if they may have had to be prompted) that Ashley is still a soldier. So I can put her in armor, even give her a helmet during missions.
While I will still have to sigh with irritation looking at the outfit on the Normandy, I can deal with it because after reading the leaked script it's still the same Ashley under that uniform. Same wisecracks, same poetry and same toughness.
She's still in there, somewhere. I don't know if I'm ready to forgive Bioware for doing it in the first place, but I'm ready to let my furious cannibalistic rage die down a little bit.

Yeah it pisses me off immeasurably to watch one of my favorite female characters in modern day gaming be redesigned for the sole stated purpose of 'sex appeal', but I'm going to put in a lot of effort to look past that and try to focus on the positives. If only because it's better for my health.

At least she still gets armor and a helmet for combat, at least they adjusted the outfit so it just looks ridiculous instead of exploitative and most of all at least in the script she's still very much the same Ash. It doesn't erase the anger I feel about this whole thing, but it's enough for me to try to stay positive.

the whole idea that the Alliance is a combination of all services is really dumb, there's a reason all modern governments have different services, the personnel management, economical and logistical challenge is simply too overwhelming for one branch of government to run an entire military

I wouldn't really defend the current system as rational -- we've had too many idiotic interservice fights in the USA for me to buy it.

right . . . b/c your currently serving and inter-service rivalry really causes huge problems for the military Posted Image

If anyone is gonna complain about Ashley no longer being a tough marine because they sexed her up, then i suggest you do yourself a favor and go look up Gina Carano.

Quick! We need to censor attractive women! They're breaking through the nudity loophole!

Put more gore into our games, that'll distract them from Ashley's hair and boobs!

Here's hoping the modding community can give Ash a real Alliance uniform to walk around in rather than that survivor of a Crayola explosion she's currently stuck wearing.Posted Image

Unfortunatley I play on the X-box so I'm screwed for modding communities.

Kaidan, being a guy, seems to have avoided that fate.

B-but Iakus surely you understand that men have a requirement to look tough while women must look sexy! Why it's central to gender equality that we force women to flaunt their liberated sexuality even in the middle of full scale galactic war. Why if you have a problem with it, you're just a prude who hates beauty;)

*sarcasm*

P.S by the way other posters, I don't think Ashley is made less tough by being sexy. I imagine she's still badass and capable and sassy as she always was. My issue and I think a lot of other people's issues is that what this design suggests is that 'sexy' is now considered by Bioware to be 'more important' then showcasing Ashley as a soldier.

She's a Specter now. And I understand the reason behind why she doesn't look like an average alliance soldier anymore.  And knowing that she will not wear that catsuit through the entire game relieved me.

Maybe your Shepard didn't. Mine let his hair grow out (as much as the game allowed, anyway).

I just don't understand why an attractive female is somehow an antonym to an interesting character. As easy as it is to make fun of how she looks, Miranda was an interesting character with a good story behind him.

I mean, people don't freak out about the Asari, and what are they but an ENTIRE SPECIES devoted to Fan Service? Blue Lesbians who can have sex with everyone? Their role in the universe is to be the "sexy alien ladies", yet their culture is still refined and deep and believeable. I trust Bioware's writers to accomplish good stories, even if their artists tick people off.
