Pre-order Cancelled.
Just kidding, but that was really lame. No sniper rifle for the infiltrator? Really?

Cinematics are far smoother, from what I can garner from the sparse dialogue, it seems that there is far more emphasis on actual conversational flow between the player and characters instead of the uncanny act of finding someone's life story by navigating topic wheels - one splintered recounting at a time (Don't get me wrong, I love learning the background of my squadmates in the previous games; it just seemed a rather contrived matter of breaking the context of your current situation ingame purely to flesh out a character. I've just come back from having sacrificed a squadmate in order to fulfill a mission only to have one squaddie tell me about their Mum and the other giving me the 101 rundown of their species' culture. What's the frickin frequency Kenneth?!). Though you can't really judge dialogue and story from two isolated missions with heavily cut content since Bioware don't want to give the game away or throw too many spoilers at you. I do have high expecations though.
Combat is a wonderfully streamlined take on that of ME2, though didn't come close to dying despite having the difficulty cranked (the fact this brought disappointment shall be something I'll do some considerable soul-searching on later). It's a nice touch to have non-regenerative health with only the shield indicator to safely warn you when you're being a bit of a tool.
I adore the cover system.
I would find the developer who had the realisation "oh hey, that wall has a hole underneath...couldn't these space-age-projectiles-of-doom go through that gaping hole into the flesh-stuff of the cretin trying to hide behind a damn wall with a damn hole underneath? Yeah? Cool" and take him/her on a steak dinner with nothing more than a handshake to follow. Seriously, it adds so much to combat to actually have to think where you're going to park your well-armoured behind while under a volley of bullets and having to dynamically progress through a battlefield to stop yourself getting pinned. Good job, Bioware marvel-child.
Graphics are purdy, characters are generally nicely animated (I am undecided as to whether they should fix Anderson's mincey-swagger-gait whilst he's "sprinting": It's hilarious) and ye gads this game is optimised: I'm running this on a laptop with a 2.1ghz dual core and an ati 4850 mobility chip and not a single crap was given today by the frame rate.

Um. He doesn't want more weapons, he made it quite clear he wanted the option to carry LESS. The more weapons you're carrying in ME3, the longer your cooldown period on abilities is... and those long cooldowns are what crippled the experience for the non-soldier classes, in his opinion.Amaterasuomikami wrote...

Enforcing the 4 gun loadout in the second mission really crippled every class except the soldier in terms of gameplay.
Good God, you can't get buy with four weapons?! Come on, you should count yourself lucky that you can choose any four guns to take with you. What did non-soldiers do in Mass Effect 2? Wail and throw the game in the bin because they couldn't take the assault rifle? It will definitely discourage players who haven't played mass effect before and are trying the demo from using powers as they take too long to recharge with that many weapons equipped.
I'm sorry, but you cannot make award-winning games like ME and ME2 by pandering to casual gamers that have no real interest in the franchise. It ruins the game for everyone else. After all, what's the point of having the soldier class if every other class can take all the weapons they want? Ammo powers? Pff, that doesn't make the class special!

I enjoyed the demo. I have faith in Bioware's story telling and conversation options, so not too worried about that. Gameplay wise, i thought it was pretty fun, but there's one thing that really annoyed me: the cooldown duration. I was playing on an adept, and the cooldowns felt far too long. 17 seconds for warp? 10 for singularity? I fet they were trying to force the shooter aspect of the game on us a bit too much. If you can't chain powers without having to wait 20 or so seconds as an adept, the best class for "finishing a fight without firing a shot", I can see battles just becoming plain ol' firefights with powers as a backup mechanic.

I don't know, I guess I could hope the final game will have a more lengthy buildup, better animations, improved lip sync, better textures (HD pack?), more dialogue options... But there seems to be no time left for all those changes.

so far I only have the complaint that there' auto swap for when the player ran out of ammo. That was a nice feat - in ME2!
It may not sound like a big deal....when playing on INSANITY mode a lot of times you're not thinking about ammo but killing enemies!!!
please if possible bring that back. SO FAR IT'S GREAT GAME!!! AWESOME JOB BW

However, the intro to the game feels horribly rushed. Also Shepard kept talking without any input from me, there was hardly any choice. This is a serious departure from ME1 and ME2. The amount of "auto-dialogue" as people are calling it is extremely troubling and I can only hope this isn't representative of the final game.
Combat wise it's mostly an improvement, my only complaint on PC the changes to movement and cover mechanics don't go very well with keyboard controls. I constantly found myself stuck to cover and unable to get out. In ME2 I never had this problem. Gamepad support in a patch, please?
Visuals looks about as good as ME2 which isn't a bad thing, but again there was no special consideration for powerful gaming PCs. You have these nice, high res, crisp facial texures, and just below that is some horribly muddy, low-res textures on the clothes and armor. It stands out like a sore thumb. According to MSI Afterburner, even with AA enabled, the game was only using approximately half of my video RAM (GTX 570 so 1.25GB) so there's lots of room for higher res textures. Like Dragon Age 2, it would be nice if you could release a high res texture pack.
I was disappointed to see that the pre-rendered cutscenes are still encoded in bink video. I thought PC games were past this. You go from crisp, 60fps (or 120fps in my case) 1080p gameplay, to 720p, highly compressed and full of compression artifacts bink video. The compression quality on these is possibly worse than Youtube HD :\\ You guys do realize there's lots of free open source codecs you could have used right? Why not render the PC cinematics in 1080p XVID or something? It sounds like a nitpick, but it really takes me out of the game when it switches back and forth between in-game and pre-rendered. Isn't pre-rendered supposed to look better than in-game? Not worse?
As you can see all my complaints are really technical in nature (aside from the lack of dialogue choices). It's just sad to see PC gamers put on the backburner once again. We don't want console table scraps.

The addition of grenades, barrel rolls and improved AI on higher difficulties is definitely a plus. Levels seem to possess the same level of linearity as the previous games, but I wasn't expecting much on that department anyway. Hopefully the full version will prove me wrong. Story is something I cannot really judge as it is quite clear that the demo was specifically tailored to leave spoilers out.
As far as the rest, I'm dissapointed. You really to consider hiring some decent guys to make textures that don't look like...paper. It's been 12 years since...2000. One would think that technology has advanced since then. Ah yeah and while you are at it, get rid of the Unreal 3 engine if you do not intend to actually do something worth mentioning with it. Pro hint : Have a look at Batman: Arkham Asylum and I'm still unsure whether the Red Engine is up for sale.
Last but not least, improve your UI and controls. In many cases it is unclear whether your actions will make you stick to cover or just roll to the side. Yes, we are aware of the fact that this is a console port and that is fine, as long as you can at least put some effort into acknowledging the existence of...keyboards. How hard is it I wonder to bind shortcuts to menu controls ? Apparently too hard, since one game later and you still haven't implemented something so trivial but also helpful.
Pro Hint no 2 : Do not release demos where resetting your passive powers results in a penalty for your character, when it comes to cooldown times. It makes for a bad first impression.

That being said, the opening was very powerful. Even guessing at the fate of the boy and the shuttles, actually seeing what happened on screen was extremely moving. It's a great setup. I'm also thrilled to see some female aliens besides quarians and asari (who both adhere to human standards of beauty). The female krogan was a welcomed presence, and she made quite the entrance. It's great seeing some of the old squad members back.
If the game's dialogue options are wider than what's shown here, I'll be happy. If not...I'll be severely disappointed.

Pros:
1. Character Customization looks a lot better than ME 2. I don't know if it was just me but it felt like there were more options to tweak with.
2. Weapon customizations back. THANK YOU!!!
3. More armor, hurray!
4. Holy crap powers go a lot further. I actually felt like it mattered how I spent my points.
5. You made my adept fun again! Woot!
Cons:
1. Why the hell did you speed it up THAT much? I don't want to say it was DA 2 stupid fast, but close. I feel like I'm going to have to play in the highest difficulty possible just to make combat actually slow down.
2. Fire the people responsible for some of the crappy one liners. Seriously, it was really bad.
3. Why did you make Ashley a barbie? Looks nice but felt like it was out of place.
4. The beginning was way too rushed. ME 2 kinda did the same thing, the first mission you don't really know what is going on and just get thrown threw it without explaining anything. I'm guessing you don't know anything about the story till after, but still there should have been more explanation through that first mission.
Overall, I'm sorta mixed. On the one hand, I love that you added back all the customization in powers, armor, and weapons back. On the other, you sped up combat way too much almost to the point it feels fake in a very bad way. Maybe it's better later, but the very little dialog we saw was absolutely terrible. That's not a great first impression. I'm really hoping it's better in the full game. ME 2 had some great dialog as did the first game. I think this game will have some of the best combat, but smelling like it's going to have the worst story. That's really not a good thing.

+ the new melee attack
+ nice to see more reapers
+ shepards new moves
+ like the new skill three
+ liked the new weapons and the fact they dont miss so much like in ME 2
+ Adept biotic skills sounds so cool now and they hit fast
+ the new Enemies and their AI
+ the new Shepard Armor looks really nice
+ the fact you have to move out of your defence( for gain ammo, enemies attacks you from behind or cross your corner) feels more dynamic
+ love the fact that the levels have more stages, more enemies
Negative
- Female Shepards new Giant Ass (whats happened to her fine ass Bioware? )
- the sounds/music/effects are to quiet (the reaper sounds, the explosions, the destruction of the buildings and the weapons)
- the running movement look so weird (big minus)
- the lip synch , the big tooth of the chracters
- whats happened to the Conversations?
- Intro and the Reaper Attack on Earth ( why no showing us where the reapers attacks the fleet or where the reapers are moving into Sol Relay? )
- who the hell is James Vega (at intro) and joining my Team without i knewing him?

As many believe, including myself, the demo was a bit worrying in terms of auto-dialgoue and the lack of any trial. However, I have to wonder if Bioware is perhaps presenting a "fake intro" to us in order to save any spoilers. I believe that is a possiblity that Bioware had cut a lot out of both levels. Therefore, it is not that outlandish to think that Bioware might be pulling a little trick on us. At least that's what I hope. Regardless, I'm sure they cut quite a bit out of the demo in order to prevent too many spoilers and story line secrets. Thoughts?

that, and origin pisses me off. popping up stuff on my screen during gameplay, and the fact that is sits in my system tray like a ninja waiting to stab me in the back, using up resources, and eating my doritos. ok it doesn't really eat my doritos but i get the feeling it would if it could, just to screw me over. it sucks up resources on my pc, and my CPU temp goes up by ~5 degrees from normal just having it running. running WOW on ultra settings on raid night doesn't even do that...
the way i see it, every shred of memory or CPU usage Origin sucks up, could have been better used in the game itself, i dunno, making the keyboard controlls less crappy or putting in gamepad support....
