I loved it, got mighty confused by the options at the start though: Action, Role playing, story? What?

Good: love the flow of the new combat and that fact u can use all weapons with any class. Also the vibrance of the textures and vistas in the demo are breathtaking. Possibly the most unexpected is the degree to which you come to care for the NPCs. I love and care about everyone of my team, but to evoke such an emotive response when a child you meet in a cutscene is blown out of the sky is amazing <3

Bad: Are you joking with the cool down for the biotic abilities???? The adept is hard enough on insane and now you go an nerf the main damage dealing ability for a biotic through the floor by giving it a 15 second cool down at max level are u ****ting me?? It's beyond ridiculous.

But thats the good and the bad all I have left is questions. I've heard that in the actual game that any class can use any weapon but you just get to choose 2 and was wondering if a similar thing is being applied to the biotic powers as it seems a bit biased towards the soldier if he can use every weapon but the adept (the strongest of all biotics) can't us biotic abilities such as warp ammo or biotic charge. For the melle attacks on the vanguard I've seen that the melle attacks is a biotic punch yet the biotic it seems ha yet again been left in the dark as they only have a basic melle attack.

Morre feedback will follow as I'm only on me second play through this time as a vanguard.

LOVE YOUR WORK BIOWARE. LOVE YOU ALL

Don't worry about the cooldowns.  That's just the new weight feature and the second part of the mission has Adept overequiped (not to mention there's a workaround build).  The actual cooldowns are a base of 1.33-2.67 seconds more or less.  So if you go with just a pistol (like the 1st mission) you will basically be a Biotic Mage.

Posted this in a different thread, but this may be more "official":

PC version:

pros:

Darker color scheme Makes things look nice and gritty.
Music: Mass Effect has yet to go wrong in this department, record remains unblemished
Segmented health bar
Return of grenades
Combat turn arrows surprisingly unobtrusive, reminded me of DXHR

cons:

Rushed beginning: felt like I was being herded towards the invasion
Few dialogue options
One person's outfit (who shall remain nameless on this thread) needs to die in a fire
Combat rolls: kept thinking of the Galaxy Quest line "Does the rolling help?"
No sniper rifle in demo=sad Infiltrator

edit:  One more con:  No workbench:  What am I supposed to do with this scope I found???

I tell ya, this BS about cooldowns and an over-emphasis on the Solider class is blatantly as a result of BioWare tracking the gameplay stats from ME2 players. The vast majority played as Soldier... as soon as I saw those statistics I knew they were going to be used for evil (so to speak) to justify a bollocks focus. Why on earth play as soldier, every other bloody game you play a soldier. The powers (tech or biotic) is what makes Mass Effect different, the developers should have been running towards that and making Soldier the weakest class but the easiest to use in an effort to force people to try new things. It's all too late now, but this is what happens when you don't permit alternative thought in a company, when they don't hire people who will stand up and say 'this is crap'.

I have played the demo twice already and I haven’t been able to find that work-bench where you can mod the weapons. I’ve looked for it all over the place unsuccessfully. Is that in this demo? And if it is, where is it?

Question; with regards to the SP aspect of the demo, can you choose which levels to play? Or do you have to beat the intro in order to play the one on Surkesh?

Good:

-The visuals are great. The city in the first section looks awesome, as do pretty much all the character models, although I'm not crazy about the changes to Ashley's face. Custom Shepards also look much smoother and animate better.

-Decidedly more of an RPG feel overall. You can level up during gameplay, the new stats tree looks like a good idea, the new abilities that I've tried are fun, and it looks like there's something resembling proper looting again. Splitting offensive and defensive abilities into two is a good idea to add some depth without the unnecessary clutter of ME1.

-Nods to ME1 in the music and the cooldown icons. Yes, I notice these things, and I like them.

-Exactly the helmet off during conversations option that everyone's been asking for has been implemented, although it's not on display in the demo.

-Default Femshep. I'm not going to use her, but it's nice that she's there.

-Vastly improved HUD. I think the one thing I hated most about ME2 was the HUD, and I'm so glad it's gone.

Not good:

-Serious lack of dialogue options. Apparently these are missing from the demo due to file size constraints, but it's a bit baffling - you'd think a demo would play to a game's strengths, and dialogue is what BW does best. What gives?

-I've already said this in another thread, but reusing my ME2 face codes yielded some... odd results. As I said above, the custom faces look smoother and animate better now, but the tradeoff seems to be that the face elements have been reworked to the point where I barely recognize my Shepards anymore.

-Call me crazy, but I actually liked the bypass minigame, and I think it's kind of a shame that bypassing a door now just means it takes a bit longer for it to open.

-It looks like Femshep has the same animations as male Shepard again. Ugh.

-Is Mordin voiced by a new actor? He sounds totally off.

-As I suspected, I'm not a fan of the new dodge roll/cover to cover mechanic. It doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose (I played basically the same way I play ME2 and did fine) and often gets in the way because there are too many functions all on one button.

Remains to be seen:

-How do weapon upgrades work?
-What does the inside of the Normandy look like, most importantly, how does the galaxy map work this time?
-What has replaced planet scanning?
-Does this one have a proper in-game economy that lets you sell stuff or is the "looting" a linear matter of "you get this in this level... unless you miss it" like in ME2 again?

Bottom line: I was holding off on preordering ME3 until the demo because it was entirely possible that I'd hate it enough to wait until the price goes down, but today I put in my preorder. Lookin' good so far.

I know it was just a demo, but anyone else feel a little cheated on how short it was? I think it took longer to download then it actually did to play. I was in story and role playing mode and felt jolted around. I know sample, sample, sample. Though...I'm left with so many questions and now am just sitting here confused. The cover mode is a little touchy to me and think that's going to take a little getting used to, but I like how the maps are a little more interactive with climbing and jumping. Though I fear I'm going to be lost as ever. All well all to the game. It's a month away til release day, though wish this taste could have been better. Less jolted around. Still pretty.

I was under the impression we could also mantle over cover w/o having to ENTER it first - but I couldn't ever seem to do it. Had to butt up against cover before I could mantle it.

 First, apparence.

-Shouldn't she shepard have a little longuer hairs like she has in the artwork?
-More facial preset plox. For those with no art talents... >.<

Second cooldowns.

It sadens me that they were the same as ME2. Why not doing like many other games where you have a general cooldown on all abilities after using a skill (To avoid spamming a quizillion skills in a row) and a second longer cooldown on that specific skill. This force you and allow you to use all your skills trough the game instead of just spamming the best one you have.

remember boring part in ME2 in which I tended to use cloak, wait, cloak, wait and never got to use other fun skills simply because they were less efficient and my cooldowns were better use for cloak.

Third, earth.

I didn't play much yet but I hope we get to fight on earth and if so, we get to see differents places, not always a city but also jungle and other climates. (City in winter, city in summer) Finally, it would be fun this see fame places so we can reconize where we are such as eiffel tower, pyramids and others.

Sorry for the english hope I didn't make too many mistakes. I may have more comment later. Have a good day.

Hi folks.

So... what did you think of the single player Mass Effect 3 demo? What did you like, what did you not like? Please let us know here as we want to hear back from you.

I am creating a similar thread in the Multiplay forum for feedback on the Multiplay demo, so please use this one to discuss the Single Player demo. Thanks. :)

I thought the demo was AWESOME!!!  I loved the whole "war of the worlds" invasion with giant walkers.  The opening was very exciting and pulled me right in.

The ONLY thing i'm going to say is... characters look absolutely retarded when they run.  I don't know why they run the way they do, but they look.... retarded.

I can't say much on the graphics, as I'm currently running it on a computer that has the bare minimum requirements.
I was a bit irked about only 2 dialog choices, but I understand that this was only for the purposes of the demo and that there'll be more when the full game comes out.
What else? I liked how the enemies weren't psychic. When I say psychic enemies, I mean the ME2 AI, in which all enemies knew EXACTLY were you were, even if they hadn't seen you yet. Putting on tactical cloak and being able to melee enemies behind their backs means so much to me, you wouldn't imagine. I'm glad that the enemies only know where I am when I'm in their line of sight.
Shotguns. Loved it. Back to the unnerfed, ME1 Versions, which deal damage even when you're more than 2 feet away. Looking forward to the modification system. Melee is also vastly, VASTLY improved (as everyone else has noticed)
I was dissapointed that I couldn't kill the Atlas driver and take over the mech, but that option was cancelled for the purpose of the mech to serve as a "first boss" type- understandable.
I don't know whether to love or hate turrets. Seems a bit too Team Fortress 2 for me.
Still undecided on the depletable health bar. Certainly did its job in making the game more fast paced and difficult.
Also, I was surprised by the gore. I cloaked behind a Cerberus trooper and hit him with a shotgun... and his head disappeared. I wouldn't normally think of Mass Effect as a "gore" game. While gore is good when it fits in the game and serves a purpose (You gotta take their limbs off!), other devs seem to think that the bloodier a game is, the more mature it is (which is quite an immature notion). I'm still undecided- I don't want to see organs spilling out of a trooper, but the occasional *SPLAT* is a welcome deviation from ME2's "Thump... psssssst" headshots.
The mode menu- I'm terribly worried that listing action mode first will lead to a multitude of first timers to choose it and lose out on the experience. Would wish that RPG mode was the default option, or that it had a description along the lines of "This is the BEST MODE."
What made me angriest was the spacebar. One thing I disliked in ME2 was diving into cover, right in the line of fire, when attempting to run for my life. When I heard that gameplay had become more intuitive, I thought, "Hey, they finally changed that spacebar thing!"
This spacebar is ruining my life. Not only is it still used for sprinting and cover, it is also the key for hopping over stuff, climbing ladders, and doing combat rolls. Nothing frusturates me more than attempting a running heavy melee and doing a sideroll, into a guardian, who promptly knocks the stuffing out of me. Pre-order cancelled.
But in all seriousness, I know that some things bother me. I would love to have the game custom tailored to my demands, but one person's bane is the other's blessing. So instead of wishing that some things in the game went my way, I'll just play it as it was intended. What if I don't like the spacebar? Well, I'll just learn to walk more carefully. The turrets? I'll figure out a way to take them out. EA is an evil corporation that sucked the soul out of Bioware? Doesn't matter to me, Bioware's still got plenty of potential left. Multiplayer is ghey? I'll keep off of it, then. James Vega is stupid? Then he'll stay on the Normandy. Just because a game has a few options that you dislike doesn't mean the video game industry is catering to sheep. Small stuff like this doesn't take out really compromise on the game.
Now if they don't show Tali's face, though...

I have to admit as an veteran pc gamer, I am pretty annoyed at the lack of graphical options. Sure it ran just fine, even though my pc has developed overheating issues lately, but I really would like the ability to tweak my graphical settings more. Particularly being able to shut off motion blur. Also dialogue options are a little light in the demo, I hope the full game has more. Also ditto about the sniper but again that obviously that will be in the full game. Otherwise some great stuff.

Well, I don't have access to the demo so I watched a playthru on youtube. Idk if it was pc, or 360, but it looked really good!

The animations. The running/jumping. Looked good. Looked smooth. Mind you, Idk how it Felt as the player. And idk how many times this person played it b4 uploading..lol. you know.

The lip synched seemed okay. I mean, it looked like most other games, and previous ME games.

It looked good. It looked smooth. No excessive rolling. By this person at least. So I'm guessing you gotta get use to it. The camera angle looked fine. The FOV. It looked fine.

I'm assuming there will be much more "story" than what was squeezed into this 30 minute gameplay demo. It was a gameplay demo, right? It was the same one we saw at E3, wasn't it?

And Manveer already tweeted something about how in the final game the dialogue choices would be more expanded than what we saw in the demo. And that the demo itself was an old build. He said that most of the issues ppl are mentioning were prolly fixed already b4 it went gold.

You guys scared me for a minute.

- Visual style is great(my favorite color palette) +5
- Cinematics are top notch +4
- Action is nice +2
- Dialogs got improved little bit +2
- No minigames +3

Bad
- Some clothing textures are too blurry in PC version -2
- Player animation is just laughable bad. It's too robotic. I don't understand how you guys managed to make player animation worse in every next game? First Mass Effect player animations were superb. -4
- Story goes too fast -2
- Less dialog options -3

Total Positive: +16
Total Negative: -11

I am really upset that you let me play the demo. Now, due to the anticipation of this game, everything else in my life is ruined.

Seriously though, the demo was great and I cannot wait for the full game. Unfortunately, I have to though...

Similar to the past two games, the custom graphics settings should be under the Config utility in the game launcher. (I hope it is, anyway)

First of all I'd like to say that I rarely, if ever, post in these forums
although I constantly browse threads for other people's opinions and the like.
The Mass Effect 3 demo today has made me break my silence.

I, like many
others, have been waiting for what seems like forever to play ME3. Through
playing the other two Mass Effect games (numerous times each), the amount of
time waiting to play ME3, and watching bits and pieces of the upcoming ME3 game
(to remain mostly spolier-free) I feel my expectation has built up so much that
Bioware has a pretty hard job ahead of themselves in order to meet my
expectations.

There are a few pros and cons regarding the demo, although
I readily admit I only played through as Female Shepard and did not play too
much with some of the new features so forgive me if they're incorrect. Here are
just a few quick ones I see popping up in the thread that I agree
with:

PROS:

  • "Immersive" feel in the
    environment.
  • Melee additions help in close ranged encounters.
  • The "V" objective
    button.
  • Squadmates interaction/advice in
    combat.

    CONS:
  • Rushed Playthrough.
  • Lack of dialog.
  • "Clunky" female walk.
  • Graphic details on characters.

Overall, I think the pros
outweigh the cons. No, really. Hear me out.

When I first started the
demo, I thought "Woah, wait. How long has passed? What's going on? Was Shepard
really just sitting there on her butt when she knew the
Reapers were coming?" I think the demo was started at that point and time
purposefully. I think (hope) the developers skipped a few important story notes
or scenes before hand in order to keep some things mysterious and spoiler-free.
This is the reason I think we don't know much about the current start of the
demo including the area or the people.

Sure, the demo playthrough felt a little forced and rushed to me. I
think this is half-purposefully done. First, the demo wants to give a feel of
certain/different situations to get the player excited about the interactions to
come. Second, I think the start of the demo was rushed in order to create a feel
of a need for urgency. After all, why wouldn't one want to hurry in a
time of war? However, I hope it's not like like that the whole playthrough.

The lack of conversation hardly bothers me. It's a demo. I
wouldn't expect every single option to be given out and handed to us. They want to give us a taste, not the whole cake. I've also
heard somewhere that it is "confirmed" there are more dialog options in the full
game.

What does bother me is the graphical detail on the characters. Yikes. I get Anderson is a little older, but still. The facial animations look something akin to ME2. Was hoping for a little improvement.

Female Shepard, as usual, walks in what looks like an uncomfortable and strictly masculine motion. Would be nice to see animations that look a little softer, and feminine (even with armor on).

I have faith in the developers and their mastery of the Mass Effect
games both story-wise and combat-wise. After all, things change, and I think
once we all get over our initial fears and anticipation, it will be a game we'll
enjoy time and time again.

I could say or add so much more but I don't want to waste anyone's time. All I'll say is this:

Good job, Bioware. Keep games like this
coming.
