I'm going to mention the two things, good and bad that were most noticable. Action/gameplay is better than the predecessors. Squadmates are still stupid though but oh well, they have a better survival chance now than ME2. That's something. Negative is story/cinematics/dialogue. I mean it's not bad but it rushed, hectic and rather a movie than RPG. There is no point you can make any noticable decisions. You can pick dialogue option who don't change anything. You can never choose whether to go right or left. You just follow the one and only path. The femShep face and facial expressions ... mediocore to bad. Only tried the default, maybe it is better with a custom made but somehow ... unlikely. I'll try it tomorrow. I know it is only a demo, but since a demo is meant to demonstrate what the game is about I have to say it stayed behind expectations. For me anyway. Some good things, some bad things. If the demo is any sign for the game then at this point I'd say great action/shooter, but mediocore RPG.

Enjoyed the demo and excited for the game

I really liked the Kinect functionality and found myself using the kinect almost exclusively to give squad commands. There is something so satisfying about just saying Singularity and having Liara use it.

No real gripes except the CDs from weapon loadout

I do not like the Mass Effect 1 elements in this game. I DO NOT LIKE the Mass Effect 1 elements in this game. I intensely DISLIKE the Mass Effect 1 elements in this game. They are old, clunky, goofy, low-fi, crappy.

Running is difficult because you have to stop running to change direction and Shepard sticks to any cover in sight EXCEPT WHEN HE REALLY NEEDS IT.

I like the option to play the game in Action, RP, or Story modes.

another thing I feared in ME3.

I fear we already know the story. Shepard escape earth go to council, go to each race homeplanet to make an army and return with the army to earth for the ending. Add to that a few side quests in which you make missions for each of your party members.

I hope I didn't just sumarize the whole story. I hope to be suprise and have the story take a route I didn't espect. Anyway, too late to change that. =/

Played the demo on PC a couple of times and planning to check the other classes.

I'm definitely sold. I love the prologue, I knew from the E3 coverage that it had its touching moments and the departure from Earth did it, it was really moving.

Combat wise, after playing ME1 and 2 I was in known ground mostly. My only issue was rolling from one cover to another cover when I just wanted to get out of cover but I guess it will just take some time to get used to it. I hope. Also Shep's normal speed seemed to be slow, it looked close to walking to me which felt weird.

Either way, I'm eager to play the full game!

I enjoyed the Single Player demo.

I liked the mirroring of ME1 a lot, that made sense to me. Shepard and Anderson head into a room regarding a crisis, a video sequence plays that gets cut off, in a room on Earth that looks surprisingingly simular to the room you first see the Council in. And, in the end, you're told to go and try and convince the Citadel Council of the Reaper threat. I think this is a good appraoch for people who wont have a save to import. I'm very curious ot how my imported beginning will go.

It was very action orientated. But I assumed this was the big-bang to begin the game with, to suck you in. I'd have preferred a more direct refference to the events of ME2, but I assume you can't on a fresh beginning. I thought it was very well done none-the-less. The reapers have always been this massive, overpowered enemy and now we got to see them in action and see what it is everyone has been afraid of happening the past two games.

The final part of the cut-scene on Earth, with the destroyed drop ships, was excellent. I always felt Mass Effect played things a little too safe. You hear of Slavery and the horros of Omega, but rarely see it first hand. The reapers are going to kill everything.

Kinect! I loved the kinect fonctionality. Some of it was less exciting than others. (Saying, "Open" to get through doors gets old real quick. As does "Pick Up." and "Salvage.") But in combat. I was surprised how much I used it. Things like switching ammo and using Medi-Gel work wonders with the voice stuff. The voice commands allow me to have a deeper interaction with the squad, as I tell them what to do and they say, "Got it!" It also kept me in the game more. I didn't need to pop-up wheels as much.

Specific Feedback:
  • I would add an extra second or two before Shepard speaks a line, if you're using Kinect voice commands in conversations. I felt reading the phrase aloud and watching the game register it, sometimes distracted me to what it was Shepard actually said.
  • Also, I thought that "Early Access" stuff for the multiplayer, was a bit lame. Multiplayer is the big unknown for ME3. As a seasonsd ME player, it's something I definatley would like to try. But because I didn't buy Battlefield 3, I have to wait, when I personally feel like I've earned it, because I've perchursed a lot of Mass Effect stuff:
Image IPB

The only ME2 DLC I don't own, is the motion comic. I feel I don't need it because I own ME1, and the DLC for that too.

Just played through the demo, definitely looking forward to the actual game!  I was disappointed there are no sniper rifles to use since my favorite class is Infiltrator, but am intrigued by the new cloak options.  With the new melee and bonus to melee damage, it's possible to just run up and bash the hell out of people now which seems fun :)

For me it's pretty short to really gauge that much about the story/complain about dialog, but since they only included scenes that have already been in movie clips I suspect it will not disappoint as far as the story goes!  The "numerous dead" choice also intrigued me, I might play through ME2 again and actually let some people die to see how that plays out!

The almost total absence of actual roleplaying was problematic. I'll only be buying if this isn't at all reflective of the actual game, so I guess I'll be relying on reviews and word of mouth to confirm that.

As for the combat, Normal seemed very easy. Since I basically sucked - still haven't got any sort of handle on the rolling stuff - but had no problems on it. Hardcore was tough, but that's probably because I was rubbish. Hard to come to more conclusions while stuck with a silly load out - Adept seemed powerful basically because I could use Throw in a combo with Liara's singularity to avoid the cooldown issues.

Level design seemed more interesting than ME2. Though this did make me miss having access to a map, since I kept getting lost.

A really bad demo for a roleplaying game. Not all that great a demo for a shooter I'd have thought, since you're stuck with a loadout which screws you up

The FOV in the PC version is giving a lot of players motion sickness and headaches.

is it just me or when Shepard is at the vessel to rescue the boy, the shadow takes over Shepard and she becomes a black shadow (PC version)? Anyway, the Demo looks pretty cool except that the running is kinda weird & my Shepard's hand when she pushes the thing looks odd. Also, does anyone know if there is a limit to sprinting (i.e. you cannot run 5mins straight without taking a breath like in ME2)? btw, I think Engineer is overpowered (Combat Drone & Turret, wtf?). In addition, the cover system is really annoying.

Bad textures in general for clothing, very low-res and blurry.

The actual intro compared to ME2 did not pull me in as much. ME2s intro was fantastic, this one is pretty crappy in comparison.

OK, a lot of this might seem finicky, because it is, the demo is largely really good and there's far more good about it than bad in reality, but:

Pros:
- The gunplay is really, really nice compared to ME2, all of the weapons feel a lot punchier, pistols are actually pretty powerful, the Avenger is far better than in 2.
- The voice acting is consistently brilliant.
- The music in both levels is fantastic, particularly during the defense council meeting, leaving Earth and the Sur'Kesh combat music.
- The sound design in general is fantastic, the Reaper sounds in the opening, pretty much everything sound related in the opening in fact, the weapon sounds, it's all really great, far improved from ME2
- The AI has obviously been improved massively from 2, enemies are far more likely to flank you or just generally act more strategically, squadmate AI from what I can tell has been improved, it makes the game a lot more challenging without it actually being more challenging.
- All melee attacks, both light and heavy, enemy melee included, are really good.
- There are a lot more options with cover, movements feel more fluid in general, it is now possible to move between cover which 2 sorely lacked, movement is generally nicer, although still not perfect, which I'll come to in a bit.
- The RPG elements they were showcasing were far expanded from ME2, a lot of the upgrades were genuinely interesting in how you used the class.
- Particularly biotic powers feel a lot nicer to use, the new powers such as Nova, the various types of grenade and the mini sentry were a lot of fun to use as well.
- The engineer is actually fun to play. Shocker.
- Kirrahe is awesome, and his gun (incidentally, the Scorpion, which you can first pick up on that mission in the full game)
- Hell, all of the returning characters are awesome.

Cons:
- The menu navigation on PC was kinda awkward, particularly the skills page, the need to double click everything, the fact that it didn't highlight what you were hovering on, it feels clunky.
- Likewise, the HUD is a bit clunky, with the action pause/power select thing, you couldn't see what you had clicked on, whether you could then cancel that, it doesn't work as well as ME2's, it seemed kinda too small. The dialogue wheel was too small, as well, and the subtitles were too small.
- Lack of graphics options for PC.
- Probably my largest issue with the game as it is was how the controls work. With all of the new movement mechanics comes the issue of controller space, and ME3 suffers quite badly from it, there is one key assigned to sprint, take cover, exit cover, roll, vault over cover, move between cover, jump gaps and use, and it gets really awkward at times - rolling when you want to take cover, rolling between cover when you wanted to leave cover. On PC at least, move around cover is assigned to round cover - why can you not bind, say, moving between cover, vaulting and rolling to that as well and make them context sensitive like on a pad, which is pretty much how Deus Ex HR did it (opposite way around, though), and that would solve 80% of the control issues, I don't see why they don't implement it.
- This is an issue specifically relating to how the demo was set up, but locking us to the same 4 weapons regardless of class didn't help at all, it didn't give a good impression of how power based classes like the Adept, Sentinel or Engineer, nor the Infiltrator (since we don't get sniper rifles) will actually play with the new weight system, at least letting us choose how many weapons we could take into combat wouldn't have gone a miss.
- Anderson's running animation. Lol.
- The writing did tend to cross the cheese line a bit to often in the intro at least, the whole defense council meeting was a bit cringe worthy.
- The intro in general was a bit too abrupt. Some context into what happened between Arrival and ME3, some insight into Shepard's civilian life and some time to soak in what Earth is like before it gets blown up would be nice.
- The kid scenes were very much out of place, particularly at the end of the intro sequence. Just showing the civilians boarding the shuttle without the kid would have seemed less forced and thus more emotionally stirring when they blew it up.
- There should have been more in the way of dialogue choice in the intro than there was, a lot of it was just auto-dialogue and what choice existed was very limited. As for Sur'Kesh, well, a lot more excusable, we know for a fact that a large chunk of story content, dialogue and a small exploration hub is missing from the demo (ie, how it gets from 'Wrex is going to pick up some women from a Salarian laboratory' to 'Cerberus is attacking, all bar one of the females died and hey, Mordin's here').
- Some of the clothing textures are a bit low res, not a huge deal.
- The sentinel's heavy melee isn't quite as cool as the others.
- The trigger for when the Normandy arrives in the opening (ie, when you run out of ammo) is silly, it means that the sequence lasts a lot longer when playing as a power based class than a soldier.
- The pre-rendered cutscenes are very heavily compressed and very jarring compared to in game stuff.
- Wrex's voice seemed to go up an octave during the actual Sur'Kesh mission.

I've gone through the demo three times now, with Vanguard, Adept and Soldier.
Here are the pros:

1) AI is vastly improved!  I remember getting ready to blast a Cerberus trooper, and the dude rolled right out of the way so I missed him! Image IPB
2) Combat is faster paced, and more fluid and realistic than ME and ME2 which is good.
3) Love the new power evolutions.  Significantly more variety, as well as usefulness.
4) Weapons are far superior than ME2 in both how they perform as well as sound.
5) Love the gore!  Blowing someone's head off with a shotgun will never get old!
6) Helmets can be turned off for conversations!

Negatives:

1) The texture quality is utterly abismal with few exceptions.  I'm truly hoping the demo isn't representative of the final quality, because if it is, then it would mean ME3 is a step backward compared to previous Mass Effect games.
2) Animations can appear robotic at times, especially when it comes to running.
3) Lip syncing is off in conversations, but I'm sure thats just because it's old code.
4) FOV is WAY too narrow for the PC!

The only real thing that bothered me was the animations. It was absolutely horrid. Sounds nit picky and so forth, but those animations were just terrible.

Everything else seemed well enough, but I'm sure you knew that.

Good:
*Improved graphics. Everything looked top notched from the reapers, people, etc.
*Music. OMG, this is beyond movie quality. It was art. I'm glad I ordered the collector's edition which includes the soundtrack because the music alone is something I would buy for $80.
*Combat health system: Harder (in a fun way) by making it where we don't just cover and wait for our health bar to heal like in ME2. A lot of people complain this was to fulfill the wishes of those who wanted the ME1 system but I see it as making the game realistic and damn harder. Gimme them medi-gels!
Okay:
*Combat could use help with view. It was hard for me to see enough of the field so that I can act accordingly. I got killed by Cerberus Atlus a lot simply because I couldn't really see where it was when I maneuvered around from cover to cover.
Con:
There isn't much and most of the things that I caught I can see being fixed right away before the final. However, I am concern about something and hope it was fixed. The lips and lip syncing are off too many times during cut-scene for me to ignore. It was weird seeing Anderson's mouth not move or out of sync when he was speaking sometimes. This was particularly true for default femshepard due to the shape of her mouth, I could not see if she was speaking. Even default broshepard had the same problem but it was very obvious with default femshepard.
Facial emotion had the same problem as the lips/mouth but to a minor degree except if I played default femshepard. Cannot tell emotions and I hope that'll be a lot more polished in the final because I love her design! I just can't play a character if I can't tell if they are sad, angry or whatever. I had to make a custom femshepard and that showed waaay more emotion in comparison.

Anyways, demo was great! Can't wait for the game :D

There are at least two improvements shown in the demo

Better background graphics instead of 2D wallpapers in Mass Effect 2
Better combat, which now requires a tactical approach

But in overall It has given a lot concerns. Mainly related to poor writing and dialog choices, shown in the demo. But I do hope it does not reflect a game-play experience. Just an action-based mission specifically chosen for a demo purposes alongside with the prologue. Otherwise all the improvements and enhancements of ME3 will be nothing more a small victory for the sake of huge loss.

played it first time, loved it, was exited like a little kid with a new toy, played it a 2nd time, started to notice stuff that didnt quite add up, and now i think of it, it was kind of left wanting....
please dont consider this a whine, really looking forward to ME3 its just...

1. the clunky , blotchy textures circa ME1, hey guys its 2012
2. the city was...err.... well i dunno, when you stop and just take no notice of the reapers, the city landscape is like toytown, and the sprites of soldiers running ? well come on!!!
yes, now i think of it, the city sucked, apart from the water.
souind was good,
3. not enough dialogue, and too railroaded, woulda been nice to have been able to at least save the kid, come on, its the worst kind of storywriting ever.
4.you know it wasnt as polished as ME2, i am hoping its a demo thing, but being so close to release, you could have made a real city guys, its just like made out of second life quality models.

still gonna buy the game, cant wait and i am sure its going to be great, but i think wwe all know the sequence of events are going to be predictable. oh well...as long as i get to pork Ash, its all good right?

I am sure it's going to be really awesome, not a repeat of DA2.

While I tried hard to like this game, I am very disappointed. It's not the graphics (which seem OK, but still worse than ME2, and certainly outdated in 2012 - hopefully the full version will have more options, higher resolution textures, etc.) or the combat mechanics, it's the whole premise of the game.

The Reapers are here. They arrive to Earth, and instead of bombing it from orbit, or using some super weapon to wipe it all out, they come down, and they crawl trough cities! On their legs! Yeah, I get it, it is very "dramatic", but it is simply stupid. With the firepower they have (I already accepted the fact that they wiped out the entire fleet in a few seconds, not leaving them enough time to even send distress signals), it would take a pretty short time to wipe out all life on Earth - hell, it would take very little time right now, in reality, to do that, we have nukes after all.

Colonies are disappearing, and the "Defense Council' has no plan at all to defend Earth. Even if there was no Reaper threat, an organization in charge of the defenses of Earth should have some kind of quick response plan for any ordinary attack. The dialog is simply stupid - along with the entire cutscene. The way the game starts feels wrong.

I sincerely hope that the writing for the rest of the game is a lot better, and that writers can fill in the thousand-and-one plot holes - and I sure hope some of them are reading this: you still have time, move the release date if it needs be, but make a game that deserves to be the ending of the Mass Effect triology.

The only problem i noticed was that when i tried to dodge the grenade for example, Shepard loved to stick himself to wall or something. Makes dodging hart as hell sometimes - you see a nade, you try to jump back and Shep just enter cover that is behind you, leaving you exposed to explosion and enemies.

AND of course graphics are disappointing. Game looks decently, but i hope for more Graphics settings in a full game, Resolution + AntiAliasing + Dynamic Shadows are just not enough.

Pretty awesome overall, a few things though;

- The HUD seems a little intrusive. Does the health/shield bar really have to be that big?

- It would be nice that if there were no enemies in the immediate area, Shepard and company would lower their weapons, since the ability to holster them was taken out. I feel retarded running around with my gun fully extended (lol) at all times.

- Having roll and take cover as the same button leads to those frustrating moments where you stick to cover you didn't intend to.
For example, I melee an enemy then try to roll to safety, only to get stuck to the wall in the process, usually resulting in me taking a few extra hits.

- Would be nice if you could turn the camera while running, so you don't have to completely stop to take those turns.

hope will be better than DA2 (extremely dissapointed feel more like a rush game)
