Yeah, I get it, it is very "dramatic", but it is simply stupid. With the firepower they have (I already accepted the fact that they wiped out the entire fleet in a few seconds, not leaving them enough time to even send distress signals), it would take a pretty short time to wipe out all life on Earth - hell, it would take very little time right now, in reality, to do that, we have nukes after all.
Its really hard to harvest ashes, you know?

Garrus and Liara get stuck in one ladder. The game show as they was dead, but they aren't, they was locked in the ladder. I had to kill all the enemies alone and let a cutscene come in, them it came back to normal.

- The kid scenes were very much out of place, particularly at the end of the intro sequence. Just showing the civilians boarding the shuttle without the kid would have seemed less forced and thus more emotionally stirring when they blew it up.
But Shepard (you) doesn't feel connected to these civilians. Think about the red girl in Schindler's List, that was how Schindler felt connected to the events. Now they could have made that connection differently, it didn't have to be a kid, but what better way to convey that idea that Reapers are here to annihilate any life.
I have known since E3 that some people would just hate this.

Pros
+ Graphics: there is an overall improvement, like the lightning or the pyrotechnics
+ Graphics: bonus points for the custom Shepards, way better now
+ Character creator: it's great (yeah, I said that)
+ Staging: so. epic.
+ Art direction: better than ever
+ Level-design: more natural, larger, bette hidden, more vertical, very good point
+ Music: excellent, like always
+ Sound effects: maybe the greatest improvement avec ME, guns sounds better (sci-fi feel FTW), explosions sounds better....everything sounds better !
+ Enemy AI: they flank, melee, throw grenades, use smoke grenades....keep up the pressure, very stimulating !
+ Ally AI: they stay in cover, melee, and shoot with their guns....finally !
+ Rebalanced weapons: self-explanatory
+ Insanity: no more every-mook-has-a-protection nonsense, it's challenging and satisfying
+ Heavy melee: great gameplay addition; useful, effective, upgradable, cool-looking
+ Roll: great gameplay addition: useful, smooth
+ Cover: you can now make SWAT turns, swap cover, get out meleeing
+ Cover: bonus points for weak cover being....weak allowing enemy fire to occasionally penetrate and stoping your shield regeneration....or heal
+ Running: Shepard isn't an asthmatic old (wo)man anymore, yay !
+ Halo reach-style lifebar: genius
+ New powers: they're awesome: whether they are Sticky/Frag/Cluster/Lift grenade, Nova or Sentry turret, they all kick ass
+ Existant powers: rebalanced, better
+ HUD: beautiful, bonus points for the squademate assignated power being displayed
+ GUI: way better, especially the power tree with stats easy to read
+ Power trees: larger, non-linear and creative
+ Banter: hilaroius, especially Wrex
+ Medi-gel or EXP: decisions.....
+ Moar ennemies if you dick around: brilliant
+ Animations, especially the 90° turn
Cons:
- Forced loadout = crappy cooldowns: who at Bioware thought it was a good idea ?
- Sur'kesh level cut: I know, space limitations, but it kind of sucks anyway
- Loot: such a tease !
- Introduction: rushed as hell, hope the "imported Shep" one is better
- Invisible makeup: come on it could be easily fixed
- Smooth gameplay: can't play ME1/2 anymore, thanks BW
- Holster weapon: it's gone, I know it's for technical difficulties but it's sad anyway
- Ashley design: kind of weird on some angles
- Unskippable cut-scenes: it's BAD
- Paragon-ish renegade dialogue options: they are few, quite annoying
- No Normandy: I wasn't even expecting the Normandy...BUT STILL I want to see that thing so badly !
- Dreadnought in atmosphere: developper oversight are understable, but still annoying
- No sniper rifle: just.....why ?

While I tried hard to like this game, I am very disappointed. It's not the graphics (which seem OK, but still worse than ME2, and certainly outdated in 2012 - hopefully the full version will have more options, higher resolution textures, etc.) or the combat mechanics, it's the whole premise of the game.
The Reapers are here. They arrive to Earth, and instead of bombing it from orbit, or using some super weapon to wipe it all out, they come down, and they crawl trough cities! On their legs!
Colonies are disappearing, and the "Defense Council' has no plan at all to defend Earth. Even if there was no Reaper threat, an organization in charge of the defenses of Earth should have some kind of quick response plan for any ordinary attack. The dialog is simply stupid - along with the entire cutscene. The way the game starts feels wrong.
I sincerely hope that the writing for the rest of the game is a lot better, and that writers can fill in the thousand-and-one plot holes - and I sure hope some of them are reading this: you still have time, move the release date if it needs be, but make a game that deserves to be the ending of the Mass Effect triology.
I'm actually entertained by how the entire plot of what the Reapers do seems to have dodged your brain here. You DO remember that Reapers HARVEST life to create new Reapers right? So, why would they bomb the hell out of all the planets which contain the life forms they intend to harvest and use to create more with? It's been stated in game that the Reapers take hundreds of years to wipe out life in the galaxy when they return because they take their time harvesting and indoctrinating as they completely wipe out and convert every sentient being.

Negative is story/cinematics/dialogue. I mean it's not bad but it rushed, hectic and rather a movie than RPG. There is no point you can make any noticable decisions. You can pick dialogue option who don't change anything. You can never choose whether to go right or left. You just follow the one and only path.
It's like that just in the demo. They clearly cut a lot of scenes in the middle of the mission, and let only the stuff necessary to understand what is going on. The demo focus was the combat, not dialog.

Everything feels rushed, the forced attempts at emotion (with the kids for instance) are ridiculous, and there's just some cliche lines and stupid things that make the characters feel completely unreal and just like empty puppets. I didn't expect this from Mass Effect. I hope it's just the demo, aka its rushed and things were cut etc. But still, what was there in terms of dialogue/story just seemed completely anti climatic and hardly intriguing.
The reaper attack felt like nothing special. Just... oh, look reapers. That was fast. Well, whatever, I didn't feel any shock or sadness about the earth being butchered.
Also did anyone notice the silly 2 frame pixelated 2d soldier sprites if you look down when you're on the roofs of the earth level? They look silly, like they're straight out of Doom 2 or something.
Meh.

Will ba nice if thay release a high resolution pack or something like that, but I really prefer to see what theyj accomplished than complaining about something that is in the same quality as ME2.

The only things I didn't like were things that aren't a problem in the full game. Like having more options to say, more opportunities to pick things to say, being able to choose what weapons and how many you take with you, etc. So if the only things that I disliked were those, that's pretty good.

Pros:
- Combat in general. Better than ever
- Combat rolls. Screw the haters.
- Cover system. I think it's the way it should be now.
- Melee. Both heavy and normal.
- Visuals, deffinitely improved
- Sound, radically improved. Rob and co., congratulations.
- Anti aliasing option? THIS IS MADNESS! Wasn't expected at all. Thank you BW.
- AI. Both squad and enemy.
- Grenades are back
- Squad banter
- Difficulty. Insanity is HARD, and I like it.
- New health system
- New powers
- Music, as expected.
- The Arrival. You can feel the strength of the reapers, how they came so fast and destroying everything in their way. The Alliance was just put in their knees and they barely could do anything. They ask Shepard for help, but he doesn't have a clear answer, so they get desperate as the situation only gets worse. And then, bam! There's not even time to get desperate. It's cool how Anderson and Shepard have to think fast and not waste much time and the Normandy has to get away from the battle. "Our numbers will darken every sky". On that situation, I believed them.
Cons:
- The Arrival. Things happened too fast and confused the hell out of me and I belive everyone who played. Too many questions. There wasn't much context why Shepard was in Earth. Ok, Hackett told you on Arrival but everything Alliance should happen in Arcturus Station, you should be given a little excuse so it doesn't contradict the lore so easy. "Oh, reapers are coming from that direction, they should fiercily strike Earth as they have an interest in humanity". So Shepard wasn't really trialed for his actions, but was out of service for a while? How much time? How did he and Vega become friendly like that? Why was Kaidan/Ashley there? Was really every important military on the Alliance stationed on Earth? The Normandy became Ashley's/Kaidan's ship?
- Dialogue. Why does Shepard speak so much for himself? Why only 2 options? This is detracting from the RPG experience we expect from the franchise.
- I don't think that was Wrex's voice, but Wreav's when there was gameplay, you BETTER check this out for the release.
- Obviously, the lack of a weapons bench, and armory. Huge problem in this demo. No sniper rifle.
- Bypassing is now just an animation loading sequence? I get that last game you did too much, but I want mini games and puzzles! I like the variety they bring to a RPG experience! And I enjoyed both hacking and bypassing mini games!

Overall I really liked it. The music, the sounds, the cinematics, the ambiance, the allusions to ME1 and of course the gameplay were all terrific. Vanguard nova is awesome!! Vanguard heavy melee is pretty brutally awesome too.
Likes:
- The guns sound great!
- The accuracy of the weapons is much better!
- I didn't think I would like the roll, but I do very much.
- I was worried that the PC port for the key bindings wouldn't be so great, but was better than I expected, especially w/ so many other movements.
- Jennifer Hale does a great job (haven't done a broShep yet, but looking forward to it)
- I've seen the final scene of the intro a few dozen times over the last few weeks, but it's still epic, especially since it was MY Shepard.
- Level design on second part is great!
- The graphics are great too!
- Shepard is no longer hunched over when s/he walks! (Unfortunately, femshep still walks like a dude, but I was expecting that).
- Character interaction seems much better.
- The separate animations for femshep are much appreciated. Thanks for listening.
- Vanguard Nova!!!
- The intro seems a bit too short and rushed. It could have used a little more exposition. I know the demo doesn’t import ME2 and DLC events, but still it was a bit lacking.
- Shepard and Anderson’s walking motions in the intro seemed off somehow.
- I had a couple of issues where the squad powers were not working during both parts. Other than that gameplay was smooth.
- The characters don’t seem to lip sync as well as they should.
- Character creator using ME2 codes were off. Some of the players have commented that actual numbers for corresponding sliders are missing.
- femshep’s eye shadow on skin #3 seems nonexistent.

Most of the time I specc into abilitys and expect certain outcomes... and my expectations are completly off/ not what I intended to upgrade them too. Its no biggy, since everyone can respecc, but still. Would have been nice to see how certain abilities/upgrades were intended to work.

I have one simple question to you folks at Bioware: *Really?!*
I honestly hope, that this is just due to the nature of a Demo that certain things are not inclueded in it, because I missed so much stuff that I liked the previous two games for. Unlike many others in this thread I didn't enjoy the Demo at all, which might be because my main focus here was not the combat system (which is fine btw, it felt "smoother" than before), and I'll tell you why since you asked for it, allthough I know that nothing will change about it until release:
- The Beginning: So, this is it, the trilogies final, worlds - no - universes end, the ancient overmighty reapers have come to earth, and it is staged .... like a bad B-Movie. You'd think now after watching the ME2 ending and the ME3 trailers, that now - literally - all hell is breaking loose, a doomsday that noone could have imagined, but no .... From one moment to the other the reapers are "there", appear at the outer areas of Sol system and launch an attack around the whole globe / simply are "there" within 2min? Rly? From a non existant dramaturgic build up to no real drama and a few plot holes at the beginning (Oh, Shepard is on earth for an investigation, what a coincidence ... <hopefully you bought the DLC "The Arrival", or you'll end up with a WTF-face>). But the rushed cold-start ain't the worst thing about the beginning: There is just no drama at all! The world is starting to end, but it simply feels nothing like it, you follow Anderson like a little puppy his owner through a sterile level and thats it, no real drama about helpless civlians or anything that puts you in the right mood (and I won't even mention the bad placed "kid" and his end here ... this in-no-way-dramaturgic element felt sooo forced-in /artificial and was way too obvious to happen). Mentioning the sterile level: If thats the world I shall save I've got to say: Let it end, its dead already. There's more life in a graveyard. Yes, there are some reapers rampaging in the background (their scale felt wrong btw, the Sovereign and the Reaper you "visit" appeared both way more huge earlier), but since you don't interact with them in any way and your only enemies is some mutated cannon fodder it feels just "empty", even as a tutorial this is weak, not to mention that this shall be the beginning of the final ME act. Unless you managed to cut out all the up-hyping sotry elements to not spoiler anything in the demo and this in fact IS the whole first mission, it is nothing but just weak, and NOTHING compared to the awesome beginning of Mass Effect 2.
"How the Demo itself is put together": Someones butt needs to be kicked for puting those two missions together the way it has been done. There is absolutely NO connection between them. It is obvious, that mission 2 happens way later in the game, since many of your old crew member are back, but you get thrown on that missions planet a) without an explanation why you are there
The dialogue (RPG mode picked): Pls, tell me you cut out a lot or these are just a few poor picks from the complete game, since there is next to no freedom or options at all, you can decide within that ~1h of play at 5-6 times (dont nail me on that, didnt count, it felt like it) between a more peaceful and a more agressive tone of talking but with the same outcome ... not even addional questions for backgorund intel. This was way better in ME 1 AND 2 ... but I guess its just some bad picks for the demo.
Gfx: Well, despite the already mentioned "lack of life" in the first level (did you fire your object designers?) the game rly felt low res on the PC, some NPCs and enemies like the Atlas bot in the close-up even looked ugly and had pathetic textures, but I guess thats becuase the Demo had to be as small as possible ... hopefully the full game will look better. The light effect looked better though. But what is a no-go was the landing sequence of the shuttle at the beginning of the 2nd level: The landscape looked so ugly ....
Thw writing: Your dialogue lines used to be so much better, but even in RPG-mode (is there any difference to Action mode? Didnt check to be honest ..) it's just some ballsy oneliners and that's it. The hearing of Shepard just before the badly staged Reaper attack launches is hilarious. I did not expect a Shakespeare' monologue, but a little more wouldn't have hurt, that guy/chic is humanities, no, the universe hero at all. A little more inspiring than "I told you so" and "We fight or we die" would have been in order, keeping in mind that the genocide of humanity is about to hit all these guys in that room ...
Some final words to common sense, thinking about the full game: So, that fleet of miles-long, ancient machine beings, that whiped off the whole life in the galaxy for many times now are finally attacking earth. They do it at the very beginning of the 3rd game, with the main character barely escaping from the massacre - how much time do the Reapers need to exterminate one planets population? xD I mean ... in ME3 we drive around the galacy and gather allies, right? How much time does cruising around that much take? Even if it is "just" our playtime of I guess ~30-60h: You'd expect several dozends of Reapers to finish the job before lunch, I mean: What is left of earth when we finally return? xDxD ... But I guess, I'm thinking too much about this ... but it is sad that you guys didn't, unless there is some brilliant story twist in the full game that explains this nonsense, otherwise its a huge atmospheric letdown, allthough I can understand that you wanted to started the game with the invasion of earth (which is NOT made in a dramatic way at all, as I mentioned at the first point).
So, to sum it up: Imo the Demo is a huge disappointment to me, as a fan of ME1 and 2. The material that is shown in the Demo feels so "rushed", like there was not enough dev time or "Bioware magic" put in it. It all might come down to its nature as a demo that this feels so many levels below of what I expected after playing both predecessors, that there is just much of dialogue, gfx quality, and generell awesomeness missing, but since the first level felt "complete", like the "full" turorial it is meant to be, I have my honest doubts, that this game will catch up to its two predecessors quality. Yes, the combat system feels better, thats a pro, but overall I just doesnt feel right .... at least the RPG parts seemed to be a little more again compared to ME2.
I will still go for my pre-order, in deep trust that you guys of Bioware won't screw up, but my impression of the Demo is just bad, sorry to say that.
PS: Pls fix that bug of the not-covering cover, enemies can just shot through it at some places ...

1. very bad fps... i have a quadcore, 3.2 ghz, 8gb ram, gtx560ti and the latest drivers. game sometimes went down to 21 frames per second. that is absolutely ridiculous and unplayable. especially since there are no real graphics options.
2. aiming felt very indirect (on both mouse input options)
3. my xbox 360 controller did not work, could not select it in the options. this needs to be fixed.
4. menus have not been improved at all from me2. the menus are very tedious to navigate via mouse and keyboard.
5. cover system is very annoying. most of the time you cannot know what will happen when you press space.
6. selecting different dialogue options produced the exact same responses... what is the point in choosing if nothing changes? feels like i am being tricked into believing there was a choice.
7. graphics: felt like a step backwards from me2. little "gifs" on the ground of running people, very stiff character animations, fire looked bad...
overall: if this is the quality of the final product, i will not buy it. hopefully there will be some news about how these major issues (low fps, no controller support, no graphics options) are being adressed before release, otherwise you can continue delivering games to the console crowds. this feels like a cheap port from xbox imho. not acceptable <_<

Character creation
Apart from taking away my Shepard's more natural, undyed-looking copper-red hair colour (apparently reserving it only for the iconic Shepard
Story
I don't really like the way I have next to no choice in dialogue, but I understand that this is only the case for the demo and that I'll have a much more interactive experience in the actual game. Some of the dialogue Shepard uttered seemed a bit idiotic/clichéd, but hopefully I'll be able to avoid most of that once I get the choice to do so. There were many dramatic, emotionally-charged moments and I'm really looking forward to being able to play the real thing... where I'm hoping that Shepard's reunion with Kaidan will be a bit better due to him being her love interest. We'll see!
Skills
Nice to see a return of sabotage! I think it was a good idea to integrate it into AI Hacking. That way, the one skill is useful against organic and machine enemies. I notice that disruptor ammo is useful against more than shields too, giving a chance to stun. I like this: it makes the skills more versatile and gives options beyond the obvious "of course I'll use X because I'm fighting Y and I'm not an idiot."
Combat
I think the level of challenge is just right. It's not a breeze and certainly keeps me on my toes, but it's not hair-pullingly frustrating either. My one gripe is this: why no sniper rifle for the Infiltrator on Sur'Kesh? Why give me every single weapon but the one I want most?
Graphics
It seemed like the level of detail is even more polished than before. ME2 was more detailed than ME1, and ME3 has taken a step forward again. I played the demo on a two-year-old laptop, and it ran consistently at between 30 and 50 FPS, which was fine by me, so I guess it must be fairly well optimised.
Anyway, those are just my initial thoughts. Thanks for sharing the demo with us!

I am creating a similar thread in the Multiplay forum for feedback on the Multiplay demo, so please use this one to discuss the Single Player demo. Thanks.
Chris.... The demo would have been great if maybe the HOLSTER OPTION and DIALOGUE system was still implemented..... E.A has assumed TOTAL control over you... even your fourms are not safe anymore of the E.A invasion.
