The combat is harder. I didn't like the addition of a health system like Halo 1.  My shockwave was pretty useless in the second part of the demo.  That was disappointing.  I get the feeling that I'm going to be relying extremely heavily on teamwork in ME3, so if my squadmates die, I'm screwed.

However, I liked the roll and the "strong melee" attack.  My favorite Mass Effect combat is still ME2.

As for story, well, I had already seen most of it before, in a preview video, so... it felt kinda spoiled.  I still got excited for Wrex though.

I Have only Played once(just finished actually).

i can safely it was fun, very fun.

since everyone seems to be doing it, i'll use pro/con system(plus a Meh/concerns section):

Pros:

-Gameplay Improvements.

As anyone can tell by the demo, they're Not Massive changes, but after playing the demo i can say they are Noticable.
The Movement speed has been reduced for some reason, but personally i don't mind it, it took me a while to notice, actually.
But
besides that, most of the changes come from additions to gameplay
rather than tweaks(at least that i've noticed), such as the ability to
roll, or the much talked about Melee attacks, and for the most part it
all works well(except for the roll, ocasionally it gets in the way more
than it helps).
And of course, the VASTLY improved AI, enemies roll,
flank, think tactics, take cover to cover no longer standing in the
middle like idiots.... this is gonna be a challenge, BRING IT.

-Great Graphics.

Definite Improvement over ME2.
Some
textures are REALLY blocky(i played the beginning for a moment with the
new Femshep and the textures in her face were terrible), but most are
awesome looking(the detail in Shepard's armor was incredible), and
scenery is quite nice, with that last shot of Earth invaded by Reapers looking great.

-Voice Acting Retains Quality
Nothing
to say here, but the VA is still good, and i liked that some the
characters now have some banter during battle that aren't "FLY B*TCH" or
"GET OVER HERE".

-(Slightly)Improved UI
i would've liked if it retained the color from ME2 but that's ok.
it's Largely ME2's UI, but with a few Cue's from ME1's, which is good.

Meh/Concerns
:

-Who.The Hell.It's James Vega!?
-Like absolutely Everyone has said, the Introduction is Rushed and lacks exposition.
i
could say why, but the thread has already covered everything below the
sun(this would be in Bad, if it wasn't a demo, so it might not be the
game's introduction, and i'm sure we'll get more exposition in the game
about other things)

Bad:

-Dialogue
Especifically Shepard's.
The Conversation with the council was devoid of any punch and little to nothing other than the lost of the Moon was given from that conversation, with would have been just fine without it.
But the Shepard Speeches take the crown.
In ME2, shepard speeches were LAME, but here, they go beyond that, they become completely stupid.

"This isn't Strategy or Tactics. This is about Survival"
> Implying tactics or strategies aren't needed.

....What?
How are we supposed to survive without strategy or Tactics?
what, we're just gonna go out in the field, yell "Yippy Kaye Motherf*ckers!" and shoot at the reapers idly? come on.

-The Kid is Completely Lame

What Was the kid's reason to exist anyway?
some sort cryptic...spiritual.. Nonsense saying "You Can't Save us"?
Well, if that's the case, why didn't we have any meaningful interaction with the kid?
all we did was watch him through a window(on the outside.... even though the reapers are coming.... uh huh), ask to come with us but he leaves, and then we see before he(and a bunch of other people) dies.
We don't even know how this kid is called, we're just supposed to care.

No Sir.

-Some Jerky Controls and camera

Particularly over the cover system, at times for some reason it didn't work well, and at times the rolling more got in the way than help(like i said earlier).

Overall i enjoyed the demo, but i expected more.

However, i am still pumped for the game.

I downloaded and played the demo today and thought that it was a lot of fun. The guns are a lot more fun to shoot, Shepard moves much more fluidly, and the graphics are great. The gameplay is a tad more difficult.

My only issue was having problems getting Shepard to get into cover on small sections of wall, places where he would reasonably be able to take cover (i.e. on Surkesh where you are fighting Combat Engineers and turrets. There are two Thermal Clups near a small section of wall that looks like I should be able to take cover behind. I pushed the cover button, nothing happened, and I got my ass shot off lol. My fault.

The best thing, IMO, is the sound design. It is absolutely amazing.

Overall, I was very pleased.

I really liked the demo... maybe it was expectations...
ME1 was one of my favourite games of all time. ME2 was huge disappointment… many of the ME3 announcements were eye rolls for me… the Fem Shep trailer re-peaked my interest the demo sealed the pre-order deal.
Please Bioware don't disappoint!

Oh and the hair... I remember the FemShep poll on Facebook. I saw the pictures and thought it was a new, longer hairstyle. The hair in the ME3 demo was pretty much the same hairstyles as ME2, just more realistic and less plastic.

Overall pretty good, though I have big doubts whether the game will be challenging on Insanity once I start my playthrough with a level 30 Shepard as well as get custom weapons and armor. Still the Atlas was a grueling piece of ****.
And you know what? I freaking LOVE that. I love bashing my head against a boss 10 times to win against it. It's very very satisfying.

Here's a full walkthrough of my playthrough on Insanity, blind, uncut.Demo Walkthrough [Insanity]

In regards to the writing. I won't pass judgement until I see the full game where I was told there would be different dialogue for those who imported.

The one thing I should mention: The kid. It's cheap from you Bioware, a very cheap emotional rotue. Still it makes the damned point sink as the Normandy flies away after that and we see the destroyed Alliance ships: This is not just a war, this is the extermination of all life in the Galaxy, Armageddon.

There will be no survivors, no mercy, nothing short of complete anihilation or total victory. I need to stress this out though: You started well, don't **** it up.

+ The sound; Its AMAZING! <----- unbelievably good!
+ Combat; Feels "right". Hate the rolling-trolling though...
+ Character customization; Very nice, as expected.

- Dialog options; Where are they?!
- No FOV options; I actually felt sick after playing for only a few minutes. Cant buy the game if this isnt in. Even though i would like too... :(

Again; THE SOUND! WOW!!!11eleven

Havent pre-ordered because of the utterly crap that was Dragon Age 2 though... but will buy the game if the FOV issue is resolved quickly.

But Shepard (you) doesn't feel connected to these civilians. Think about the red girl in Schindler's List, that was how Schindler felt connected to the events. Now they could have made that connection differently, it didn't have to be a kid, but what better way to convey that idea that Reapers are here to annihilate any life.

I have known since E3 that some people would just hate this.

But you don't feel connected to the kid either. I'll give you two examples:

1) How did you feel when you thought Newt was going to be impregnated by a facehugger?

2) In Aliens Vs Predator 2, how did you feel when "Generic Hunter's Kid" actually DID get impregnated by a facehugger?

In that intro to ME3, everything with the kid is just bad storytelling by an amature writer who will at best provoke a moment of feeling and then it will be out-of-sight, out-of-mind. "Nobody can help me" <- what kind of line was that? Was this kid from Silent Hill? A scared boy would be running into the arms of the first adult he saw during an alien invasion.

Nevermind how Shepard watches from the Normandy loading bay, which is incidentally facing the same way as the Normandy's guns, when the Reaper Crawler guns down the two dropships. This Reaper of course doesn't register the Normandy is a high-priority threat- I guess it never got the Memo from Harbinger.

It is exactly a moment to show just how EVIL the Reapers are- except anyone who has played a previous game KNOWS how evil the Reapers are. Heck, the nightmare sequence from the Prothean Beacon makes that pretty clear and affected me more than that scene with the kid.

In truth, the Intro level is great for anyone new to the franchise. Who are these people? Why is Shepard so special? What did Shepard do to get into trouble? Oh Man! Giant alien insects are attacking the Earth! Cool! I gotta figure out what is going on here...

^^That is not me being sarcastic, that is me putting on my "haven't played ME before" hat and looking at it that way. The problem is that the Intro is basically an insult to previous players in the franchise.

Now, as a previous player in the franchise, I think it would have been better for the Demo to just be the complete Surkesh level. You get into the action, get to check out the new powers, cover system and Kinect system as well as be involved in a story you already are invested in (the cure for the Genophage) and you get to fight with some long-time allies. You can even ignore that Cerberus are the mooks-of-the-week cause heck, you've already killed enough Geth and it is more probable that you've PO'd the Illusive Man in ME2- so you can get into it.

This is a miss-fire for BioWare. Trying to blind us with "awesome" and "drama" is only a temporary delaying of the inevitable disection of the poor writing.

I found it very very strange in the demo I always have to walk with the gun. I found it very strange indeed ... I think this is wrong, in certain situations it would be better to run without the gun. Or just walk without it.

1. Bug where Adrenaline rush completely breakes (PC, cooldown occurs but no effect of time dilation at all);
2. Action menu's icons and LMB clicks frequently do not connect;
3. Running and other animations are atrocious;
4. Locked at 30 FPS;
5. There's no ****ing sniper rifle to use, well, Garrus has one but Shepard for some strange reason gets a slap in the face instead;
6. Possibly a ****ty FOV of 60 degrees;
7. Spacebar basicly does everything now eh?

In other words, Bioware, you've half-assed it... again.

Seeing a lot of people list the PC technical optimization is bad, I just want to add the point that my 6 year old PC still runs this game at maximum setting without noticeable frame rate drops...save me another 3 thousand bucks to buy a new PC.

Since I got the extra cash on hand, I just per-order the entire package.

very good ill just say a few things i did and didnt like in particular and avoid compiling a huge list or writting long paragraphs on the subject
 the game

good

combats much more fluid and seems abit more tactical rather then just shooting poppup targets as in me2

the cloak looks realy good when in use

hair looks much better particularly on femshep

skill system seems to be a HUGE improvment over me2

the non recharging health makes a welcome return

bad
the intro sequence felt a little rushed and a bit hollywood. It introduces Sanders like u already know him then 1 second later ur at the council then another second the earths invaded all 3 things seem to happen in as many minutes and it doesn't really feel like the players gunna know whats happening at this point especially if they are new to the franchise. Shepard kinda says silly things hopefully this is just due to it being an intro and in game he'll be abit less silly

id like to  see the option to seperate some of the functions of the space bar (on pc)

Ash seems abit rediculous in her new outfit hopefully there will be some kind of n7 tyoe gear for her later

i had an issue when moving between cover. When a teamate obstructed me it didnt cancel the movement i just kinda kept crouch running into them until i i could get to the cover

only 2 dialogue choices althoigh i gather this isnt a representation of the full game

demo specific
the choice of weapons on part 2 was abit poor didnt realy give a very good feel for the game. no sniper rifle for the infiltrator for example kind of did a diservice to the gameplay

finaly thank u for the full CC i enjoyed seeing the improvements and looking at all the new class features

To easy, not enough combat, to many movie scenes! Just what I thought we would get from EA!

Just like KOA I probably won't buy it after the demo even though I loved ME1 and ME2.

I started playing the demo, but I really don't wanna finish it because I don't want any more of the full game spoiled for me. However, it was great to have Wrex back on the team.

The only glaring things for me is that Shepard moves way too slow during combat. She walks like nothing's going on while her squadmates seem to move a bit more briskly. Any chance of changing Shepard's normal move speed to what it was during the second game?

And, just for the record, the default FemShep sure has some bushy eyebrows....

Played that KOA demo just to get the gear for ME3- that game was like WoW meets KOTOR 1 meets Magic the Gathering meets DA2 meets the year 2001.

As for ME3, I'm too invested not to play it.

The cooldowns suck. They really really suck. In ME2, I was able to fire off adrenaline rush every 5 seconds or so. It even seemed like you could in the first mission of the demo. But, in the second mission of the demo, it was freaking ridiculously long. I'm hoping there's some way to shorten that in the real game.

Intro felt a little rushed and seriously lacked dialogue options, but I'm assuming that's because it's a demo. I actually didn't mind the kid that much. Sure, I wanted a bit more of a connection to him like everyone else, but I saw the kid dying as a symbol of Shepard's optimism dying... anyway, it worked for me.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the demo. Combat feels great. AI is better. Weapons are awesome, I feel like I'm not scrounging for ammo as much as I was in ME2. Powers are good (other than the ridiculous cooldowns). I know I'll like the level-up system once I get the game. Story seemed great, I assumed the rushed quality is because there's only so much you can cram into a demo. Sound is awesome. Graphics looked as good as ME2.

March 6th can't come fast enough.

Well I played the demo twice today. In between the two playthroughs I happened to finish my new canon Shepard character with Mass Effect 2 by playing the last mission: Arrival. What was shocking to me, that in comparison with ME2 the demo version of ME3 feels to be in a very premature stage to say the least. It's obviously dumbed down in many ways and has bugs and several other issues (voice shifts, missing sounds, and graphical problems) - and here comes the "cons" (or rather I'd say the things I noticed and\\or didn't like:

1. Well I don't want to jump into rash conclusions before my CE arrives, so I try to avoid jumping on the "where are the dialogue options" bandwagon, but the dialogue trees are really a missing feature, so to speak (and I played the RPG mode). I hope it's only a demo exclusive issue. I don't presume that the team who created the two previous (awesome) games would drop the series' most popular and iconic feature. And as far as I can remember the earlier beta leaks had more conversation options.

2. I hate to say, but I didn't enjoy the prologue at all (I assume that this would be the prologue to the game). I'm kind of frustrated about it because it has so much potential. It's rash, hasty, hard to follow and confusing to all those players who are new to the series. To me who is familiar with the first two installments, it's kind of lacking the atmosphere and leaves me with the uncomfortable feeling of "did I miss something?". I mean the creators should have given a bit more air and background information in the prologue. A prologue is the part where you supposedly get all the missing information, where you become familiar with the plot and the characters and where you first become a part of the story. This part should give you more sense of involvement, and fill you in with all the missing past events. I really hope that they didn't dump the "trial" part, because I'm not a huge fan of the "in medias res" kind of way (which worked for ME2 surprisingly well, but there wasn't that large a gap between the past and recent events). I don't care so much about the corny dialogues. This is a sci-fi, space opera. It supposed to be cheesy sometimes. If it works, I have no problem with it. Though the whole conversation at the ship was funny. I mean come on, in the middle of a reaper invasion in such an exposed manner. I also found the kid thingy a bit forced, but it was ok.

3. Graphics. Maybe it's my eyes, but I find the graphics a bit worse than in ME2 (and I played ME2 today). The colors and the textures' style are somewhat reminiscent to ME1 which I find to be a good thing, but still the backgrounds aren't working too well. They are completely lifeless: just take a look at future Vancouver. Those buildings are all grey, boring, lack texture, and makes you think that it's still a "work in progress" - not to mention that there are no cars and shuttles trying to escape on the roads etc.. While the Reapers are very well detailed, and all look great (there's a huge contrast). The same goes to Surkesh: could be very nice looking, only it lacks detail, and there are moments of peace (when you do not rash on to the next bloodbath) where you might think that the attack is over (no shooting, or blazing fires in the background and you can hardly hear a thing but the music - here I had the sense that the sound department hasn't finished it's job either). There are some issues with some of the characters as well, especially Kaidan and Anderson. They are a bit weird or unnatural, facewise and mimic of course. So I hope they put a lot more detail in the actual game. Taking a look at the screenshots and the newest trailers, my hopes are pretty high on this one. - oh I forgot to mention that I played with maxed out graphics.

4. Bugs: Reaper (the first one you come across) supposed to pass by you while you are trying to save the kid indoors (you see its legs, tentacle whatever in motion and hear it's huge impact sounds it make with it's steps), then all of a sudden when you leave the building it resets to it's original position (the one before you entered the building). The same reaper suddenly disappears after you took the jump to the surviving marines. The disappearing gun issue. Wrex-Wreave voice shift and some other minor glitches. AI-problems at some points.

5. Game control issues. Not perfect (especially the use of covers and shooting from behind covers and the hole rolling, shifting thing can be pretty annoying), but even at this stage it's bearable and easy to get used to. Sprinting animation is a bit weird.

That's the long and short of it.

Before some of you might come to the conclusion that I disliked the demo I have to state that I enjoyed playing it very much and I still can't wait to grab my hands on the actual game. I only think that this demo shows an earlier (I'm talking about months here) stage in the development of the game that's why it lacks so much. I'd sum it up by saying that playing this demo was like holding and uncut, unpolished piece of diamond. A very nice piece, but still with many issues to deal with.

Just did a Soldier run through on Insanity:

Pros:
- Overall, difficulty is just right, I think. Think Object Rho (Arrival, but less buggy). Got killed twice when I confused myself on the controls (more on that), but I had fun with this demo. The Atlas fight made me think a little bit (the AI is confuseable), but being fluid and smart got me through the demo without frustration.
- Gameplay is much faster, but also smoother. Everything moves, fights and dies faster now. So can you though.
- Movement is nice and fast now. Feels like a twitchier DXHR, actually. There should def. be a tutorial sequence in the intro to allow new player to practice moving. (More on this)
- Squad AI is faster and smarter. I did not feel dragged down by the squadmate AI at all, which is very nice. I noticed they also won't comply to overtly stupid commands, which was nice once when I got flanked. Will have to experiment a bit more with the attack/rally/move keys a bit to test the AI's limits.
- Sound FX are greatly improved from ME2 as a whole. Music also creates a strong tension.
- Level design is greatly improved from ME2. Added complexity (elevations, obstacles, etc.) allows for more tactical options than ME2 + ME1.
- Enemy AI is better than ME2's as a whole. They are not godlike, as some have been saying (TBH, they still do some stupid things) but overall, they seem to be just right in terms of difficulty.
- Graphics are really nice on PC. It's all about the AA, man - which we finally have. The bloodied bodies are generally pretty good.
- Every weapon I tried out seemed to have a place. Eg: the Tempest was awesome at CQC; the Predator was weak but not useless; the Mattock was good but not overwhelmingly so. Even the Avenger got some love.
- The levelling system seems good. For the most part you are forced to make some tough choices about how your abilities evolve, while getting the definite sense that you are steadily getting stronger. It's a good middle-ground approach from ME1&2s extremes IMO.
- The intro might've been even more powerful if the child NPC related more to Shep. Eg: if he would instead be a girl in the case of FemShep. I don't know if BW was purposely trying to avoid coming off as too exploitive though, so this is a minor nitpick in my mind.
- The little bit of squad banter I saw from the ME1 guys was brief but sweet.
- I didn't run into any obvious bugs.

Now for the nit-picks:

Cons:
- The sound when you punch in from the Title Screen into the menu screen is weird as hell, IMO.
- I can see how people are saying the faces look more wooden. I think it's the cheeks, which don't move and thus seem tense during certain expressions. I think I saw more micro-expressions though, which was great.
- I got an abrupt head explosion from a Mattock to a Centurion's head. The random decapitations can be a little weird sometimes.
- Some weapons seem to shoot too slow. I.E.: the Avenger, Mattock and Tempest... Image IPB
- I found it hard sometimes to tell if I was being shot, apart from suddenly going red and losing half my health tabs. Made me miss the old full-regen system a little, though the tab system helps keep certain classes (Vanguard) from being too abuseable.
- Controls might possibly be a tad too twitchy. I died twice from diving out of cover when I really just wanted to hug a bend or vice versa. Since this only happened twice for me, it could just be a matter of practice. Definitely have a practice sequence in the intro for new players.
- The demo's implementation of bypassing locked doors is strange because you don't know exactly whether you're doing it properly or not.
- Picking up objects is harder than before. I presume this was done to prevent players stun-locking themeselves by unintentionally picking up items during a fight.

Overall, the demo left me wanting more ME3, so I think that shows that BW did a great job. If the rest of the game is as good or better than this, then ME3 looks set to be the best of the series. Only time will how the finer bits of the gameplay, storytelling and presentation come together in the full game, but IMO, the future looks bright, so to speak. Here's to hoping BW knocks it out of the park with ME3! Image IPB

Everybody has already hit on the improved game-play and graphics, so where should I begin? I personally felt the lighting effects were positively STUPENDOUS! (yes, I said stupendous) And the environments were very well done. I found myself just chilling looking at scenery while my NPCs were fighting for me.

The cover mechanics will take some getting used to, but I think it was an excellent addition to the game and very well executed.

The music and sound effects were amazing! After watching countless youtube movies about the Earth level and the leaked Beta footage and knowing what to expect, I STILL got chills when that piano kicked in. The weapon effects hit hard, and that's a good thing. I run a pair of Polk Audio LSi7 bookshelf speakers for my computer and when the female krogan blasted the two Cerberus mooks with Wrex's Claymore, I felt like I got punched in the face.

What I found a little distracting is on the Earth level when Shep and Anderson are running on the side of the building, if you look down you'll see a bunch of husks scurrying around like roaches. They all have the same animation, are obviously sprites, and are just really funny to watch. I understand it's a tiny part of the level and that there are graphics limitations, but I felt the way it was implemented was just too comical to fit the mood of the level.

Also, I'm sure the devs have already caught this, but in the Sur'kesh level, when Shep first activates the pod, Shep's weapon disappears in one of the camera angles. Also, where's the upgrade bench and Sniper Rifle?

What I appreciated the absolute most however, was the little things that were put in the game. For example, when Anderson tells Shep they're getting "a little soft around the edges," Shep reacts slightly differently whether male or female. If it's Bro-Shep, he touches his waist with one hand as if to say "yeah, I know I'm getting fat, thanks for noticing." If it's Fem-Shep, she touches her belly with both hands as if to say, "HEY!! I'm not fat!!" I thought it was a fun little easter egg. One more example is at the beacon on the Earth level. If you pick up the Avenger BEFORE you activate the beacon, the cutscene shows Shep holding the Avenger. If you DO NOT pick up the Avenger before activating the beacon, the cutscene shows Shep picking up the Avenger and activating it. I thought that was a very well done tiny little snippet to keep with the continuity of gameplay.

Honestly, I don't understand where all this hoopla of "oh, the demo sucks, pre-order cancelled, Bioware sold out to EA, etc" is coming from. From the little taste of ME3 the demo gives us, I can tell that ME3 is going to be great experience. I for one am glad I pre-ordered the game, and am really looking forward to playing the full thing.
