Maybe it's just a PC issue, but having just recently played Mass Effect 2, this demo felt incredibly clunky in comparison. Also, is it just me or are the graphics actually worse? Characters seem to look worse for some strange reason, almost like their faces are less detailed. On the other hand the Reapers look absolutely awesome. Still, it feels like some things have taken a step back.

That said, the music is amazing and the new weapons are a bit more satisfying to fire (although no sniper rifle which is a bit dissapointing)

I can only hope this thread is for a Day 1 patch, otherwise a feedback thread for a demo is pointless.

It doesn't exist in a bubble. At the minimum, it can inform them about how the demo failed as a demo. So that demos for other games may be better representations.

And broader it can give them a heads up on some issues that people may dislike about Mass Effect 3. So hopefully they can improve that in future games.

Pros:
Music is good.

Combat is functional

Cons:
Dialogue has reached DA2 levels. Maybe even worse if the demo dialogue continues.

Plot makes no sense at all. The council meeting was unintentionally hilarious. One liners everywhere.

The hamfisted kid trying to make me "emotionally engaged". It was jsut so melodramatic it couldn't be taken seriously imo.

Animations are horrible.

Textures are really poor.

Controls are clunky. Too many things assigned to one button.

My big huge complaint is that the camera is too close-in, and the FOV is EXTREMELY narrow. It's really hard to tell what's going on, and the feel of that narrow FOV in a PC game is just wrong.

Controls are pretty annoying. I hate that pressing run while strafing makes me roll instead of running fast in that direction. To me, strafing should be no different from running forward.  On top of that, getting to and from cover feels more difficult than it should be.  I think I blame the rolling for that too.

Running animation feels pretty awkward. Anderson running looks extremely awkward.

Quite enjoyed the demo! My hype is only further increased. My only two concers: are there no longer "neutral" dialogue options? I'd rather not have everything be Paragon or Renegade; some of us like to be a little middle-of-the-road sometimes. Also, there were times where I would be trying to get into cover, and Shepard would dodge instead. Not too bad, but could end up being costly on higher difficulties.

Other than that...is it March 6th yet?

I have been a loyal fan of Mass Effect since the first game, but this demo completely disappointed me.

The story is now very stale, characters are carbon copies of stereotypes, the character subplots are still the same as Mass Effect 2 (everyone has some sort of daddy or authority issue, we are tired of Saturn Retrograde stories Bioware! I know you're using cheap astrology to write your stories now!)

The music is atmospherical and tries to engage the player emotionally, however with very bad acting and lack of situations that actually make me want to care, I don't notice the music anymore. Bear in mind, I was a music major in my undergrad years. If you couldn't even engage me, it's no wonder that so many users on these forums are disappointed with the music selection.

(was I supposed to care about that kid? Even Battlefield 3's single player campaign made me care more about the characters, and the characters in that game are military carbon copies!! That's sad!!!!)

Conversation choices are so limited now. I don't mind the exclusion of the neutral choice, but having only 1 or 2 Investigate options makes it pretty obvious the game just wants you to rush forward. There is no room for patience in this game now.

Finally, the fact that I could beat the entire demo on Insanity without dying once, kinda says a lot about the difficulty of the game. This game was pretty much made for casual gamers so the player base can be increased.

I have canceled my preorder. I'm sorry BioWare, but I would rather take my money elsewhere. You have clearly rushed this product. This game should've been made as an expansion pack for Mass Effect 2.

I suppose I'm the only one who thought the combat was too hard? Ehh, well... At least I'll have my squadmates to lean on.

The combat was a joke you guys. If you don't believe me, set the game to any difficulty under Hardcore, and shoot wildly. Your bullets will magically hit your targets.

Even when you play on Insanity, all you have to do is point and click. And use powers. The power system is now like Mass Effect 1, where each power recharges on its own. It's too easy.

I had difficulty on Surkesh with my Adept on Hardcore because A) I don't play GOW and was completely befuddled by the cover/rolling/running. That will come with time just like the changes in ME2. and B) I didn't realize that your health didn't regenerate. And what is with that health and shield bar taking up a third of your screen? (Seriously, my complaints about ME2's HUD seem childish now)

Pros:
Combat is great - A little faster paced, but still feels like Mass Effect
Glad to see expanded talent trees - More choices to make, although I wish squadmates had one more ability and/or passsive talent. 5 talents with 6 levels is more than 4 talents with 4 levels, but I think one more would have been nice. Oh well. Glad that there's some actual, seemingly interesting choices to ma.e
Omni-Blade is cool - Still not sure how well wading into melee combat will be on Insanity (only difficulty I play on after my 1st playthrough) but it was fun to use, and felt "right."

Cons:
Lack of story - Story for the demo was really disjointed, and no explanation of what happened between ME2 and ME3 (people who didn't play Arrival will be reeeallly confused). The mission on the Salarian homeworld was also chopped up a lot just to show off the action.
No weapon modification system - Not too big of a deal, but it sucked picking all those things up, only to not be able to use them.
Mordin - What the hell happened to his voice? My favorite character from Mass Effect 2 sounds horrible.
Length - Reeeally short. Which is understandable, since it's just a demo and it's already pretty big in terms of size taken up. But still, it was awfully short.

They may not be able to patch in better writing, but I'd love for better keyboard support ie; more mapping options.

I'm still gonna pre-order the game. I had to get over my intial shock at how bad the intro was, and into the action sequences to realize it's worth getting. But yeah...patches Bioware. Please don't ignore patches.

OH MY GOD... oh my goooooodd!! Bioware, YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Played story mode and even though i was scared and my adrenaline was going, I was doing stuff I NEVER would have done before. I was out of cover and running up on the enemies left and right. I normally camp and snipe my way through everything. I am still able to use my crew the way I did before. Awesome! my precious story seems like it is going to blow me away and make me cry alot. I know some complain but I am happy. no, no, happy isn't good enough. I am ECSTATIC!!

I loved the demo. It seems like lately I've heard nothing but endless amounts of whining, but I guess I can attribute that to /v/ being /v/ and BSN being BSN. With the exceptions of wanting a trial for Arrival and James having no proper introduction, I loved the story, presentation, and dialogue in the first mission. Gameplay is about what I'd expect for a tutorial level. The second level was fun and challenging (I always play Soldier so can't comment on the loadout issues), and all-around I'm extremely satisfied and glad I pre-ordered the full game.

I don't like this new health system.  I thought we'd gotten beyond med kits.

Ive tried all the classes now and where is the sniper rifle? Did anybody have access to one? The infiltrator was sad experiance without it. I just had the same 4 weapons for all classes (2nd half of the demo) and wanted to know if im experiancing some glitch.
The engineer is surprisingly awesome, and the vanguad is still king.
The combat roll was never needed, switching between cover is handy though. Love all the unigue heavy melee moves, and noticed on my 6th run that you can heavy melee around side cover , and its a seperate animation from the main heavy melee move - cerberus grunt got a nic surprice as he walked towards me! Pretty cool. Never managed to pull off an 'over cover' stealth melee though. People have complained alot about the run animation, i didnt find it noticable at all.
I wonder why there were hardly any dialogue options? No investigte choices. Only 2 choices each time, not sure why thats changed - is the full game still going to have good dialogue choices - or are we just going to have 2 responses now? Im worried about that.
Not all the new moves per class were as rad i was hoping, after seeng the biotic pull off nova and the new turrets for the engineer i was excited to see the rest - but they were all just grenades basically - that seems like a soldier thing, and felt a bit contrived or uninspired using the same ability for the rest of the classes. The cooldowns were horrific as well - never really got a chance to try the tech combo untill i had a class were you could combine weapon ammo with an ability. They are rad though - but using freeze then incinerate with the engineer had me excited until i had to wait about 10 seconds to use the other ability - by which time nobody was frozen anymore. Oh well, maybe in the full version after some serious levelling up that will be a possibilty.
The cover is worse than me2 - find myself not sticking or just doing a dive roll (which is a totally pointless move, at least from the demo experiance) and its surprisingly janked - maybe it works 60% of the time.
Anyways, hope to see sniper rifles in the main game.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with the demo in a good way.

Though final thought could be only given after 3 months of release when buzz has settled, but ME3 MP seems to be one of the most interesting pve...and hardcore game requiring skill to be good.

Sorry that pvp didn't make it to the game, yet pve is one of the most hardcore, satisfying one so far.

More maps, weapon customization, some more enemy type, tactics should follow though.

And a little bit more camera shake, or head bobbing, character animation is STILL VERY RIGID, AND STIFF though mp animation is A LITTLE better than sp.

some more interactable environment to change set piece environment, more natural, fluid animation, maybe more weapon kickback to make it harder, thus more interesting.

Also, I am not that concerned about sp integrity in the first place, I have given up on that part long ago.

Yeah, I've been thinking it.  :\\

Though I feel like I want to see if Bioware postpones release.  A lot of the gameplay issues can be fixed via patch.  But the writing, and need for more dialog options...  that's gonna take a while...  I'd still rather see more options, better beginning, and more emotionally engaging sequences, than to have paid 80 bucks for an expanded version of this demo...

Reading through this thread and based on the majority of replies and my own experience with the demo I really hope for Bioware's sake that the demo is not a representation of the final game, otherwise I see another DA2 player base backlash on the cards.

I'm still quietly optimistic about the game (and my CE pre-order won't be cancelled), but it ME3 turns into another DA2 debacle it will take a lot for Bioware to convince me to support them again in the future.

Okay so I have to admit that I am coming at this with a pretty negative bias. I was never thrilled with ME2, I liked it, but wasn't completely in love with it like I was ME1. I have never come to grips with the ammo (heatsinks) or the over the shoulder view. Also, I felt burned by DA2 so I am a little more cautious about demos from Bioware or preordering any game.

I know this will sound crazy to many who are fans of ME, but I honestly was getting tired of the cinematics. Seriously, I quickly found out that pressing the X button would skip them and I was button awesoming a large chunk of the Council scene. I also have to say the whole intro didn't give me anything to connect to. The kid getting blown up, what a cheap attempt at emotional drama. For Earth about to be destroyed I really didn't care. There was no real connection to the situation. Pretty sure a video game like this is supposed to draw you in. Yes, I know it's a demo, but it can still do the basic job. I mean I had a stronger connection to Jenkins in ME than I did the whole Earth in ME3. Not good. The graphics seemed grainy to me, and it seemed like Shepard has been doing meth since we have last seen him because his face just looked sunken. I barely recognized Ashley Williams with her new hair, outfit, and plastic surgery. Honestly, she had more Miranda in her than Ashley of previous MEs.

I had the same problem others had with the running, it just seemed sloppy. The HUD seems a little too big and should fade out instead of just stay there. Shepard constantly holding his gun up looks unnatural and gets annoying. Did I mention I still hate heatsinks? I also agree with a few people here that the overuse of the A button is troubling. Also the penetrating bullets that the enemy uses got pretty annoying. What's the point of cover if I am going to get shot behind it?

While playing this game I was thinking haven't I played this game? Yes, I have it's called Gears of War 3. Mass Effect has simply turned into a third person shooter with just enough RPG to make people think it is really deep. It's not. Will I buy this game? Yeah in a couple months when the price is right. But really I am tired of Gears and Call of Duty and it looks like Bioware is just trying to be like them. The over the shoulder view was just grating on me. I got to the second part of the demo and I just started thinking, "I would rather be playing Skyrim." So I didn't even finish the demo. I just put Skyrim back in and started searching through Fellglow. The demo just didn't grab my attention.

So has Bioware lost its magic? To me, yeah it has. ME went from a RPG/shooter hybrid to a shooter and a hint of RPG. The hybrid is gone. As I said I am heavily biased so I will understand the criticism I get in return, but ME seems to have lost something in the push to get a bigger audience. I won't preorder this, but I will get it eventually just to finish the trilogy. The demo just didn't excite me, though to be honest, coming off of ME2 and DA2 it probably would have taken an act of God to excite for this game. Man, and I LOVED Mass Effect. Maybe when reviews come out I can be convinced to get excited again.

I just finished the demo on insanity, it was my second play-through.

So overall it was entertaining. The Earth part was about the same on Normal as it was on Insanity, but that makes sense since it is sort of the tutorial bit.

Does seem to be a bit harder than ME2. Although part of that is learning a new game, part is of course that the enemies seem a little smarter and have more tricks. Also don't know how effective the build really was (went to squad cryo... actually it seemed decent). Also no idea if the weapons are effective or not.

I am not sure why the sound effects were changed so much, especially for the weapons that appeared in ME2. I think it breaks your "immersion" a bit.

The lighting when you are choosing your appearance at the beginning is a bit dark. Minor nitpick. I don't know if the textures and the "look" the characters are final in the demo so I will reserve judgement on that.

As for the combat changes, I can't say I am sold on all the extra animations, like rolling around and such. Maybe I need to get used to it. Found myself doing random moves for no reason a couple times. Heavy melee is sort of neat. I didn't have much occasion to use it on Insanity. Maybe I was doing something wrong... on Normal I stabbed quite a few of them. This isn't something I ever really cared for in other games anyway so I don't suppose I mind that it was added.  The new health system makes MediGel a little more useful.  Not a change I care for.

So I had some fun playing it. I don't know how representative it is of the final product though.

Pros:
1. Combat was fun, just a little clunky... Sometimes when I charged, I can see my Shepard going off into the distance, only to magically reappear in front of the enemy I was supposed to hit..? Really odd when it happened.

2. Music was great

3. Really like the new graphics

4. Kinect integration... I really like it

Cons
1. See the charge thing above and clunkiness of gameplay

2. The intro seemed a little rushed and.... odd. The committee and what Shepard said to the committee... I mean, I don't know how to explain it, but it just didn't catch me. The dialogue wasn't that great to me

3. That kid didn't emotionally engage me, primarily because the kid was an idiot

There were a few spots where I wasn't popping out of cover in the right direction, but the demo was fun. Guns feel really good, powers were a little slow in part 2, but it wasn't horrible.

I'm still wondering -- if the game's gone "gold," what will this feedback go towards?
