I am pretty sure they have cut out some portions in the demo..although I doubt James Vega will get much chance to tell us how he got into first name terms with Shepard. Also it didn't say clearly what Ashly/Kaidan is doing on Earth if they are Spectres now? Surely they just didn't come to witness Shepard's trial? Actually that maybe the case...since even though Shepard has been stripped of his Alliance rank..he is still a council Spectre. The gameplay was good...but accessing the Charater build-up screen was not good. why do I have to expand each skill and then increase them?
Also...i wish they would let me use Tali in combat....but I guess i will just have to wait for another month...

I forgot to add a couple of other things:

The "introduction" of James Vega
So I get this nice cutscene of a kid playing. And then shifts to Shepard, when suddenly James Vega walks in. I think "Okay, this is the first time they meet each other. Great." But instead, they act like they've known each other for some time. What the hell? I have never ever seen James before (except on the pictures), and suddenly he's Shepard's friend? I barely know him (apart from the info we've been given)! What's his story? How did he come to know Shepard? What did he do before? What's his favorite food? Does he like dogs?

Shepard's "trial"
After Arrival I thought we were going to see a trial. I would've loved to see that. I would've loved to see Shepard defending him- or herself against the accusations thrown at him by the Alliance. Instead, I get a lame "LOL I TALKED TO THE ALLIANCE AND THEY DON'T WANNA PUT YOU ON TRIAL NO MORE ROFL", which is followed by a "OMG REAPERS GONNA REAP WHAT WE DO NOW?!??".
It would've been more epic if they just dismissed Shepard's claim during his / her trial when suddenly the Reaper invasion begins. It was a lost moment to me (which returns to my previous opinion of the demo having a bad intro).

Mingame for bypassing locked doors 'n stuff
I was quite disappointed that there was no more minigame for bypassing locked doors. I loved the minigames in ME2 and also the one in ME1. I really hope there is some sort of minigame in the final release.

Small dialoge wheel (especially on higher resolutions)
The dialogue wheel was too small on higher resolutions. It was hard to read at times. Hopefully it's bigger on the complete game.

Holstering your weapon
Only a small issue, not gonna get my panties up in a twist about it. A minor issue. I hope we can holster our weapon in the final release.

Those were the things I hated the most (except for the third, (I was more disappointed), fourth and the fifth one). The bad intro and the sudden appearance of James Vega without any proper explanation.

And please don't come with "OMG Y U NO READ CONVICTION". If you know any comic store (or just store, for that matter) in the Netherlands that actually sells it, you're welcome to tell me so. If not, don't say a word and walk away.

Edit: removed some "we's".
Edit: added something

I don't think I've ever heard anyone call him John in the entire series lol.

Combat gameplay wise, it's the best in ME series so far. I had a lot of fun tweaking different builds and try different combat tactics. the combat animations need some serious polishing work, I really do not want to see the actual game is like that.

Sorry, haven't read the last twenty pages or so. Have any devs confirmed whether there will be manual bypass minigames in ME3 or if all hacking/bypass is automatic as it was in the demo? Personally, hoping for the former (what? I liked matching bits of code! ;).

I liked the demo but one thing made me confused why was there no sniper rifle included. We get every other gun but the sniper. I love the infiltrator and leveled up my cloak but was very confused and then mad when i saw that i had no sniper so i couldn't test the slow down zoom. Now if the sniper rifle was hiding somewhere on the map then please tell me, if not then tell me why bioware wouldn't include the sniper rifle?

To be honest, combat, dialogue and animations all felt worse than Mass Effect 2. I don't like the changes made to Vanguard; the timers feel increased and I'm getting the impression it'll be "Room full of waist high boxes? FIRE FIGHT" all over again.

Disappointing, overall. I know it's a demo and people will cry "BUT IT'S FROM AN OLD BUILD" - whatever, save it. A demo is meant to showcase what something has to offer. A demo is not a beta.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the HUD/UI (mostly the health bar and shield indicator) feel REALLY BIG on the console versions. So big, that they kind of block the little arrows that indicate which direction you'll be leaving cover if you're crouched down behind chest-high cover.
It wasn't an issue on the PC version, though. The PC version had it scale down to an appropriate size (probably due to higher resolution).

Please consider shrinking it a bit on console versions, BioWare!

I know it's a demo, and that you don't want to spill all the beans about everyone all at once, but I would have really liked a brief stop aboard the Normandy to have, say, the Shepard/Vega sparring scene. Given that there's the three different modes of gameplay, if someone wants to play the story mode, they're really shafted to an extent, because there's so little story allowed in a one hour demo of the game. A pause for some character moments, and a proper introduction for this new squadmate who we the player don't know, would have upped the demo in my eyes. It wasn't bad, but it felt more like it reflected an earlier version of the game, rather than the finished version (which, since these were the levels used for E3 and other previews, were probably relatively unchanged from then, isn't surprising).

Agree with the super small text and ability icons.
Also ran into some problem getting out of cover. Playing PC version in ME2 pressing space would make you pop out of cover but I can't seem to do that in ME3, it just make me jump out to the next cover. Or maybe it's just me but how do I slide over a corner during cover?
Oh and is there a mini-game for unlocking door? I see the circle spinning and turning from red to green and again and again and then it open after I press space many many times.

Otherwise I loved the new ability upgrade screen, awesome charging omni-blade attack, AI seems a lot smarter, new health system makes medi-gel more useful, and Ashley is looking good!

I agree with you about pressing the space to get out of cover, I think that should be put back into the final release. Not sure I want a mini game to unlock doors though I never likes that in ME2. I dont mind doing it for PDA's though.

And to the people complaining about the Intro... when the EA/Bioware Presents appears on ME2, it is after a fraking long scene of the Normandy being destroyed and Shepard getting spaced. Why wouldn't ME3 have some long intro just like that before the Intro credits? It is not like the game was rushed or something... it is not DA2. (is it?)

I have to agree with the "running" speed being very bad. It is the same speed as running while aiming in ME2. Why such features (different speed for running and running/aiming + holstering weapon) are removed from the game? I read some BW guy explanation about weapon holstering and honestly, I don't buy it.

It would be more honest to say that DA2 philosophy of "why have extra work like we did in previous games when we can cut off half of it and dumb it down and none will complain" has actually come from the top.

I thought it was really good, I can't wait for the full game now!

I loved the new power tree system and the AI was much better. I felt like I really had to pay attention to what was going on as opposed to hide in cover and pop my head up every now and then which really added to my immersion.

I liked the new powers espicially Nova (my Vanguard is gonna have alot of fun with Charge and Nova) and was very pleased to see multiple powers for squad mates again. Squadmates having just three powers was one of the few things I didn't like about ME2.

On the downside, I felt one button for roll, cover and sprint was a little strange, I found it difficult at times to get into a sprint and kept diving for cover instead.

I also found it really difficult to get an accurate aim with any weapon although this may be just a demo thing and when we get to mod our weapons this will improve. The only other thing I noticed was the camera angles were a bit funky and getting a proper look around you when in combat could be trickey and this did cause me to die a couple of times (that trixey Cerberus Engineeer and his Turret!). But again, hopefully this will be improved in the full game.

All in all though an excellent demo and March 9th can't get here soon enough!

First impressions from a PC demo.

PROS:
- music is amazing
- haven't played long enough to judge enemy AI but turrets, shields, grenades and smoke are a great addition
- more power upgrades, can see what each upgrade does better than in ME2
- nova and heavy melee
- no cooldown on ammo powers
- weapon and power sounds
- overheat sound is back and deserves a special mention
- bypass animation
- vaulting over obstacles is easy
- occasional falling, jumping and climbing
- helmets in conversations options

CONS:
- no footsteps sounds, running is strange, it feels like Shep is slowly floating around (demo specific?)
- no weapon customization (demo specific)
- rolling when you are actually trying to take cover is very annoying
- while overall graphics quality has improved, low res textures are still there, face vs outfit contrast is jarring (high res pack like in DA2 or Skyrim would be much appreciated)
- I know that the dialogue system is cut in the demo and I really hope that some of the dumb lines from Shep can be avoided in the full game. 'The fight's here'. Really, Shep?
- Wrex and Mordin sound weird

UNDECIDED:
- Kirrahe's new skin tone
- no option to turn motion blur off via ui, GamerSettings.ini change seems to work though

Waiting for the MP access to experiment with combat properly.

Bioware please read:

The demo is amazing and I can't wait for the 6th of March but I have one concern about an error regarding a specific npc character chain that spans the 3 games, but it affects the Playstation version of ME2 and the demo of ME3 and have posted a topic on it that I would like you to read.

other thing that got to me, for the first mass effect game i spent a lot of time on the faces of my character to make his/her mouth look like it matched the words coming out of his/her mouth. When Shepherd spoke it looked like if we were to actually speak the way the mouth moved on screen then we would be talking like someone with no tongue or someone who is mentaly challenged(most noticeable on Anderson when they are standing on the steps). This complaint might not be high on everyone's list but i was hoping mass effect 3 would look smooth and fluid and not jarring.

And speaking of anderson i laughed when i was ahead of him while running but he sonic the headghoged me to the ladder just running so fast out of nowhere.

Also the cover system is different from me2 it wasn't as fluid, maybe make cover a diff button or like someone said make double tapping (a) the rolls, etc. The running made shepherd look like a box with wheels.

.And the tech Armour, i could be wrong but when my shields were about to go down i pushed the button and it seemed like what shields i had left instead of charging disappeared like i some how turned the tech Armour off? It might have been coincidence but it caught me by surprise. And why doesn't the tech Armour cover your whole body? The back was bare, so does this mean your back is unprotected?

And for the engineer the small turret was so small when i threw it in any area i lost sight of it, like it disappeared, maybe highlight it a certain color like the enemy's grenades, i found myself running into fire to find it just to see if the power even worked (yes i know running into fire is stupid, but its a demo)

I did not like the holstering/animations thing.

I did not like the lack of film grain

Framerate was all over the place

I did like combat and the classes look to be good enough.

But please bring back the things you ridiculously removed. No film grain?? Really? I played the entire ME series with film grain on, thats how it is imprinted on me...and now on the conclusion you remove it?? Bring the option back.

So, not to sound like a broken record, especially about a non-core mechanic, but holy crap...Who was responsible for the male hairstyles and why did they fail so hard?

In the spirit of curiosity (who knows, I thought, maybe it doesn't look quite so appalling in-game!), I created a manshep with that god-awful mess that I think is supposed to be a fauxhawk, and I could not help but cringe repeatedly. Not only does it look terrible - it looks like two seperate pieces and it's pretty much hollow in the middle, ffs - but it also clips in almost every scene where Shepard's head is not perfectly straight, in both the front and the back.

And that one side-part style near the end of the slider! When did poor, balding Shepard decide to start painting his hair on? Surely there are better alternatives in the 2180s. And the hairlines! Every one of them is so far back on his head, they make his forehead look gigantic.  Then you consider that the male hairstyles imported from the previous games were somehow degraded in the transition, none of the styles even look like hair, and males have less colour options than females and it's just...idk...It sucks, or whatever. Ugh, I can't even finish my rant properly...

Yay for baldshep, apparently Image IPB
/silly rant over

It was very good BUT:

*Played on PC*

Some textures were really bad. Especially on the Earth level. The skyscrapers and city buildings had kinda bad textures. And the Reapers legs were also kinda bad.

You cant chat on the Multiplayer. It says T is the button but nothing happens. No chatbox appears. Probably and most likely fixed in the full game.

And the sprites of people fleeing from the Reapers (you can see them while walking outside the trial room), they are all made in 2D.

This is what i have to come with right now.

Summary: Need some High-quality textures here and there.

I'm unconvinced... (PC player here)
I was blown by ME1, was rather thrilled by ME2 to buy it day one, but now? Not so much.
The WHY:
I dont belive the hype anymore. And if anything DA2 convinced me that the focus in making games shifts away from the things I like about rpgs.
I played the demo. I find it lacking, if it were to reassure me, it did not.

Textures are poor, enviroment at the begining is empty... maybe a good level design, but someone forgot to put some care in ti the surroundings aka barren corridor in DA2 beginning.

Animations are... I dont know, is this mo-cap? Sprinting is plain awful to watch. It looks as if some portions of animations are missing too, especially noticable with reloading a weapon.

Dialogue options... well, not so many I would like to have, at least in final game (was it abbriviated for demo porpouse?)

AI... I think its not so great as we were belived to think. Once again its the problem of better accuracy (like, 100%) and higher damage output plus heaps of HP to mow through. Neither is really a challenge. Its an artificial difficulty spike. I didnt see enemy tactics as a team/group/unit. Just single npcs with different patterns of behaviour; kind of 'if => then' pattern. It comes down to higher numbers.

I'm holding with the purchase, I'll wait for some detailed and not opinionated review first.
After the demo my concerns have risen, just hoping the writing is not the same denominator of a pattern.

Those are my subjective observations.

SP demo was fine. I would have wished to be able to reduce the cooldown times in the second part better ( i.e. get rid of some of the for me more useless weapons ) but it was a good way to demonstrate what playing with many weapons would feel like. The demo needed more Tali, though. ^^

And the trial should have been shown at least in part, I was looking forward to that very much. That's the thing I am most disappointed about at the moment, a missed opportunity for some great storytelling. Maybe insert it via flashback in the game itself? You guys have the files probably still around. I hope the sound files are at least still in the files, so that intrepid modders can extract them in the future. ^^

I know this is a just a demo, but that doesn't mean I don't have to worry about some of the things I've experienced in the demo. I agree with a lot of the posts on here. Some good some bad.

The intro did feel rushed. There was no tension build up. At least, there wasn't enough. I was expecting Shepard to be questioned sharply about her actions in the past. Particularly surrounding the events of the DLC 'Arrival'. That wasn't a trial and I really didn't need any "luck". Again, I have to keep reminding myself that this is just a demo and I know there is more dialogue options to play with in the retail.

The dialogue or the writing seems ok. So far. I'd rather be shown or figure out on my own whats going on rather than be told. Of course, I can't be talking about the entire story. I just hope the game doesn't hold my hand too much in regarding whats happening around me. That probably doesn't make any sense to most of you, but it does to me. Not that I'm being selfish or a douche.

For the Xbox 360 controller.  The default "jog" animation (not the sprint), weapon in hand, seems like she's always moving in slow motion. What was wrong with the "jog" animation from ME2 or ME1 for that matter? The "jog" from this demo gives me the impression or the illusion that Shepard moves like molasses. Not including the roll feature. Bad analogy, but you know what I'm getting at. It just doesn't feel as nimble as I would have liked it to be. It seems trivial in the grand scheme of things, but It's a pet peeve and I thought I'd point it out.

The game looks great and regardless of ANYTHING, I will be playing the hell out of this game until I've exhausted every nook and cranny.
