Feedback:PC

Graphics presentation:
Sorry it was a mess, the texture quality was complete and utter...well you know the word that I will use for a badly done job.
Face Textures were ...ok, since it followed the strat of ME2, so it didnt bother me at all.

Clothing and scenario textures:Jesus Christ my eyes are still bleeding because of that

Animation:
Rolling, cover and stand by animation its ok , nothing new.

Running animation: What the hell you guys did with it?It look like that I accidentally pooped in my pants, thats why I'm running like that, jesus christ that was awful.

Close Combat Shotgun head explosion:I will give my positive on that, you didn't shove the head explosion for every bloody weapon.Could be more detailed though on the graphics department.

Story:
For the little showed, hell it made me cringe...all the time.Ashley new appearance...I understand why you guys wanted to change since she was out of ME2 and stuff happened. But the boob job wasn't necessary for real.Looks like you are just trying to sell the product through fanservice

Controls:
Moving out of cover was annoying as hell, still that ME2 consolized UI , stop its not good for PC.Tweak it, it wont make your arm fall, stop being lazy for Christ.

Combat:
Still enjoyable like ME2 and kudos that you didn't put a big screaming alarm on my UI that an enemy is throwing a nade, you are not treating me like a complete retard, thanks bioware. The melee combat was.... unnecessary, as a soldier at least, just used the ..."omni knife" once because I forced myself in that situation just to see what's up with it.

Thoughts:

Well take some more time to tweak the product, review the story scripts because of the lorelols scattered already in a DEMO and optimize for PC the UI and Graphics.
Before that I won't buy it at all.

ME1 was dated the second it was conceived. It was like BG in space suits.

I wish it would have been that. That way it would be a good RPG.

Well, here are my two cents on the demo. I liked it....some and here's why;

Pros:
- Enemy AI was better, they actually do more than hide behind cover now.
- Squad isn't brain dead and can be left alone to fight and do so for the most part.
- Cut-scenes were good and we had hair that didn't look like plastic as much.
- Weapon and Biotics were fun to play.

Cons:
- Waaaayyyyyy too much auto-dialogue in the intro, left me annoyed when Shep was talking for me instead of having me tell him what to say during both parts.
- The opening? Really Bioware, that was the best you could come up with and cut the trial as well? It seemed rushed to get you to combat and away from the annoying 'talking bits'.
- Space Bar being shoe-horned into an 'everything' button now and no keyboard shortcuts for that because everyone has a console and no keyboard. (and that is not a console dig, just a comment on lazy developers)

My demo just went mute after a few grenades! WTF? heh Other than Menu sounds or Menu Bar sound, the in game sound it muted. Not sure if I hit some key combo that did it but it is unlikely. So close to finish it again and there's no enemy to kill me so I can restart from last checkpoint!

Hope this issue is just in the demo!

PS.: Found some enemies to solve that. Restarting from checkpoint fixes it.

Hasn't it always been, though? I mean, I just loaded up ME1 and ME2 playthroughs and didn't notice any difference. Non-Sprint Shep's always been a slug.

Might just be me, though.

The awful awful graphics just got me into a disappointed mood, altough overall I enjoyed the new gameplay mechanics. I suggest that for your own good Bioware, you should stop blaming the 7 year old hardware decreipt consoles and admit it´s due to lazy programmers, 2012 gamers aren´t that ignorant/bias :) .

Please, please Bioware, postpone the release for as long as you like, 9th of march for a finished product will not cut it, if this demo even represents where you were at 3months ago, you need to postpone it. The rushed elements of story-telling, no setting, awful graphics which reminds me of 2003-graphics, and alot more. We beg you! 49-51% GPU-usage and 42% CPU-usage during all non-prerendered scenes and gameplay with every eyecandy forced and turned up in nividia controlpanel? Sigh...

I really hope they change that very soon in a patch, it made movement clumsy and felt out of control

gameshrk, some weapons can shoot through cover now apparently. There's an ability (I think for the Soldier) that lets you shoot through a percentage of cover.

-I saw the 'Manual' and the lack of a codex in the menu, and felt a sense of dread. Where's the codex? Am I going to have a 2 page book for Mass Effect 3? Its irritating as hell navigating ingame 'manuals' when I could just look in the hands-on-manual.
-I don't like subtitles in a game this great, BUT I wouldn't mind them while you're running around shooting. You tend to miss things said when you're trying to not get shot in the face. Or even if you're just walking around your ship (I'm referring to the other games on that account). I think there should be an option for Cutscene and Casual/Combat subtitles.
-Also, you should show the Character Code on even imported characters. I haven't been able to obtain mine at all. On that same topic, I wanted to tweak my imported Shepards skin tone on Mass Effect 2, and I had to take his appearance 'as is'. Maybe that could be fixed for Mass Effect3.
-Can I have a weapon that is different from an Omni-melee weapon? I saw a brief flash of a sword in a trailer. I just want a freakin' knife. ATLEAST for my Renegade. I mean. Come on. The enemy shouldn't be cooler than Shepard in CQC. = P

My last is more of a question; Do I HAVE to take all the weapons with me? I played the Infiltrator class (my renegades) to see how it felt, and I didn't have a Sniper rifle. I'm assuming its just the demo, but still. I'd rather just take the Sniper Rifle and Sidearm/SMG. I really don't need all the weapons (although I wouldn't mind a Shotgun for close encounters I suppose).

Aside from these things, I really like the demo. I don't approve of the direction in some things. It seems to be taking big steps away from RPG'dom, but whatever. Its Mass Effect.

It was what I expected but hoped was not true. Continuing the skill system from ME2 rather than ME1 continues to drop me out of immersion. Limited variety and fixed options at skill levels made it feel like a combat only simulation. No social skills or anything that is not combat related. The line that Shepard was not a politician just a solider made me see what crowd they were focused on. The continued use of thermal clips still makes me feel like Bioware cannot take pride in what makes a setting unique.

Ok, so here's a few thoughts that noone probably cares about.
  • Overall looks and feels... okay, I guess. I mean, it's a demo, so you can't really expect to get the real feel of the RPG elements. Or get to know your class, when you're thrown midgame with two dozen of talent points.
  • Speaking of talent points, new talent evolution system looks interesting. I wonder what will be the point cap...
  • Yeah, holstering your weapon. I know you consider PC a dying market and don't bother with anything more than porting the game from console, but it's still sad.
  • UI elements are a bit too small in my opinion. Probably after some time spent playing it won't be noticeable anymore, but so far it is.
  • The weight-based cooldown duration looks like an interesting thought, too bad demo doesn't really give the feel of it. Unless it'll be as bad throughout the whole game as it was in the second mission. My Sentinel is crying tears of blood over the 25-second Warp cooldown.
  • My Infiltrator cried even worse when he discovered there was no sniper rifle in the demo.
  • Squadmates tend to use abilities all the time. Sometimes it's good that you can just forget about them and let them do their job, their AI seems to be handling it well, however, once you need to do some tactical thinking and some crowd-control... uh-oh, they are always on cooldown. Always. So are you, because of all the weight.
My phaythrough as Sentinel in ME2 (how long ago was that...) was about nuking and controlling enemies with my biotic powers and adding some finely-placed bullets from an assault rifle (the one that shoots in single rounds, don't remember the name) to the mix for the perfect result. My playthrough as Sentinel in ME3 demo was about "shoot it in the face until it dies". Hopefully it'll be not as bad in the actual game.

In general, I expected it to be so much better, but I still have hopes about the full game which will, no doubt, bring more cool stuff. Unless it won't, now that will be just sad and disappointing.

In ME1 we could just SetSpeedTo XXX at the console and fix it. In ME2 Shepard moves faster, except when aim button is pressed. Now running speed is the same as ME2 with aim button pressed but when you press it in ME3, then  it is even more slow! heh

Overall I loved the demo. I have some good things to say, some concerns and some questions for the devs.

Pros:
1) Combat was excellent. The difficulty felt ramped up without being punishing. Everytime I died I knew exactly why, and it was my fault.
2) The Omniblade. I have played 3 of the six classes and each Omniblade attack feels visceral, vicious and satisfying. My favorite so far is the soldier, it is just a straight up holographic bayonette to the face.
3) The weapon sound. In ME 2 when you fired a gun it felt good but it always felt like the guns didn't make a huge impact on the enemies. Even the Mattock felt a bit underpowered for what it was said to do in the game. In the demo however, every shot felt like it packed a punch and could really do some damage.
4) Squad power appear to be much more useful and work in great compliment to Shepard's abilties.
5) The new verticality in levels. It was great being able to go above the enemy, take out their patrol on the second level and drop down behind the shielded Cereberus agents to melee them from behind. This added a new approach to combat and gives the player greater tactical options during gameplay.
6) I appreciate the new leveling system and the increased customization it seems to provide for character development.
6) Ashley Williams. I thought her look in ME and ME2 was ok. She was my default LI. However it was hard for me to see how she could compete with Miranda from ME2. BUt after playing the demo her new look makes her a definite possibility in ME3.

Cons:
1) Shepard walks too slow. He seems to have aged rapidly and moves slower than Old Snake in MGS4.
2) Power cool downs took too long. I played through as a sentinel and infiltrator and the powers seemed to take a long time to recharge. I have not yet played as an Adept but I am a bit hesitant to. I loved my Adept in ME2. I could win many battles without needing to fire a shot. I am afraid that if I play with that character in ME3 I will die before I am able to set off another power and in that way I felt that the demo was biased towards a soldier class.
3) Dialogue Choices. I know the events of ME and ME2 are supposed to take its toll on Shepard but it felt like the few dialogue choices given to me as the player did not effect the outcome of the conversation. I hope this is not reflective of the overall depth or differences my choices make in the full game.
4) I wish there was a weapons upgrade station or the chance to put the armor upgrades I gained during the demo into effect. A small nitpick but it would have been good to see how these systems will operate in game.
5) Some of the new movement options made the controls feel imprecise. Shepard did not always do what I wanted him to (such as go into cover) and would instead combat roll right into the line of fire. I know this was just a demo but I hope the controls in game are more precise.
6) Admiral Anderson. Something about the character model seemed off. I think it may have been the color in his face, it just seemed plastic or fake. In ME and ME2 his skin seemed as real as the Unreal Engine could make it but in the demo his once healthy face had a sickly yellow hue to it.
7) Mouth movement. Shepard's mouth movement seemed to be out of a badly dubbed foreign film. Anderson's mouth seemed perfectly timed to his dialogue but Shepard's mouth seemed to vaguely echo the words Mark Meer was speaking.
8) Character creation. While I am glad we can import our character I have concerns over how he may look. The preset heads were hidious with each seeming plastic-like and have unnatural skin tones or alien eyes. The Asian preset was particularly ghastly. As an Asian American I wanted to create an Asian Shepard to fight the Reapers and was disappointed that the preset was a ghostly white.
9) Not being able to play the full game now. I loved the demo and will be playing it at least one a day until the release on March 6th but I wish I could play the full game today! Congratulations Bioware on going Gold!

Questions:
1) In the demo you started with one power. I read on the ME wiki that if you import a character you retain all your powers and abilities. Is this true? If so how will that work/ Will my imported character start as a Level 30 character?
2) If you can import your powers and abilities do you have the option of re-specing?
3) Can it be March 6th already?
4) Will there be a Kai Leng action figure for my Shepard to fight? Or how about an Illusive Man for my Shepard action figure to throw off a shelf?

Loved the demo. Loved ME and ME2. I know I will love ME3. Bioware you are honestly my favorite Developer!

-One more thing. Kinect friendly much? I couldn't tell anyone to go up top in the demo in the area where you pretty much have to to keep from being flanked. I don't know if you can even tell them to go up top, but none the less, what the hell?

Note: If this comes up twice, my bad. I didn't see it here when I went to edit again. If it DOES come up again, I have a forth issue, and that's with the Kinectivity junk.

Cons
-intro felt really rushed.
-rolling system doesn't work as smooth as I thought it would
-running animations
-a couple of lore errors
-some of the dialogue was kinda corny, but im pretty sure it will be in the final game
Pros
-Sound is great. The weapons and combat sound awesome
-game looks fine. Hopefully there will be refinement to graphics when the game is released.
-Enemy AI is more intimidating. Specially on Insanity.
-Im really looking forward to weapon customization.

I know this is only a demo and im still hopeful that some changes will be made. Im looking forward to Mass Effect 3

awesome.......but

1: there is a certain drag in the controls, I have no idea how to describe it but it looks like the camera kinda floats after you stop pushing the stick

2: Sometimes you get shot through cover

3: No Face Codes for import shepards

here is what I said before in my own review thread

crimzontearz wrote...

alright then. First off....I could not import my face code, that pissed me off but only for about 5 seconds

I played Vanguard, as anyone who knows me would have guessed, and I must say I was VERY positively impressed. The game looks sharp.... Wrex face looked perfect, Models and textures look and feel solid like they did in ME1 and less plastic-y. Special mention of awesomeness goes to the sound. The music is wholly Mass Effect but more somber and less 80ies ( I know...blasphemy....sue me). Gun sounds and their overall feel is great....listening to the eviscerator was priceless....it felt so much better than ME. Curscenes are just....awesome. Seriously....solid, detailed..."heavy" for lack of better words.

Anyway....on to game play. A lovely upgrade from ME2. Deeper, longer progressions, weapon customization and a flow that does indeed rival with pure shooters. Vanguard played smooth and steady yet I felt controls dragged a little....just a tad maybe an overall camera sensitivity issue. Weapons punch and stopping power felt great, enemy anymation was good too....Charge was effective but felt a little floaty in my opinion upon impact yet heavy melee was awesomely satisfying. Cooldowns felt a little odd every now and again and bugged out a bit here and there but I am sure it will be fixed.

All in all March 6th can't come sooner

My one complaint is the super one button for everything. Hold Space bar for running press space for cover press space again to jump over roll around and all these other things.
This was acceptable in ME2 because it was just run and cover.
Now all this rolling stuff is annoying. Normally I love that kind of game mechanic but having it all mapped to ONE button??!?!?! Get stuck on a wall when I'm trying to roll or just open a door or UGH.
This is my only complaint but its a big one and it almost cancelled out everything else wich I loved.
Though the character creation could use more options. 3rd game in a series and still no decent hair or face options for femshep? come on.

Overall this has made someone who was planning on boycotting the game cause of Origin forget all about it.
I'm still not 100% convinced on it but its no longer about the useless Origin.

I keep thinking of things I forgot; why does the hair look like a plastic casing instead of hair now? It looked real in the first two. jc62403 also pointed out the faces, which I mostly agree on.

Why does the 3rd look not as good as the first 2? Or atleast the 2nd?

I agree entirely with this. The intro was kind of a letdown.

Though:

Then comes the part where the Reapers land. They start destroying a nondescript city that we are given no description of. Where is it? I'm serious, I have no connection to this city. All I see are sterile white buildings being

That's not walking. That is running. The buttom/key is for sprinting/Storm fast run. But in ME3 the running is slower than the walking in ME2 which is the slowest walk in a video game ever.

Well, I thought it was fine on my first playthrough. It was as good as could be expected for being a console game, and aesthetically it was better than the previous games in most cases, although the clothing textures were pretty awful in some cases and the running animation was lol worthy. They also move much slower with normal walking speed.

My real complaint with the demo though? You can bug it out and prevent it from continuing right at your first encounter with the husks. If you don't actually use your gun to "shoot" them, but use a power, Anderson will just bug out and keep saying "You haven't forgotten how to shoot have you?" and no more husks appear, and he doesn't move at all.

Pros have been said so i will go with the cons

-RUSHED INTRO/NO TRIAL, no time to get attached to this planet or get to know some people before in gets glassed

-Space bar doing everything

-Cant holster weapons/ we shoudl be able to holster in and out of combat, it such an eyesore running with gun arm sticking out with no enemies

-Lore mistakes^

-Slow Shepard walking

-AUTO DIALOGUE- seriously shepard don't talk unless i let you, a bit of auto dialogue in me 2 was not noticeable, him just blabbing away in the intro was frustrating

-Cheesy dialogue and unfunny one liners

-Textures on the PC were horrid

- The health bar should not be so BIG and be in the middle put in in the bottom left corner

My only complaint at this point is the FOV. The game is going to be extremely unplayable for any length of time without causing headaches if they don't include an adjustable FOV option.

Who plays at a FOV of 60 anymore? PLEASE fix this.

There are a few other issues, but those usually get ironed out a bit between demo and launch in most games.

The only thing I liked about the demo was how well it was optimized for PC - steady smooth 60 fps at all times on not a very powerful computer.
Everything else was atrocious: from dialog to gameplay. Animations are the worst - Anderson walks like he's got a log in his pants.
Overall, I'm disappointed.
