SP didn't disappoint at all. I gather that the dialogue options will be more fleshed out in the full release so I'm not worried about story or content - in fact I'm thoroughly excited.

Kinect works. Plain and simple. Great use, I think voice commands in general have saved this piece of hardware and it appears to be quite responsive in ME3. I only had a few screw ups, but those were because I wasn't used to saying commands. I think this will make the SP even better so kudos Bioware.

My only gripe relates to melee attacks. The heavy melee needs a targeting feature. I can't tell you how many times I would run up to a mob and hold down B only to have them sidestep the attack by a few inches. I like that the AI is legit but I think within a certain proximity of an enemy the heavy melee should auto-target given the lack of control you have while it 'powers' up.

Overall...Congratulations Bioware. You are my favorite devs and this ME team has done some truly amazing things since ME1. I think 3 looks like a good balance between 2 and 1 regarding stat tweaking and combat mechanics. I think this will be a series that I come back to many times over the course of my life. I at least plan to take 3 days of vacation from work so I can play the hell out of this when it comes out! ;)

One more question, and I doubt I'll get an answer but here goes: Anything, even just an easter egg, for people who got all achievements in 1 and 2? I hope so!

I must say, I enjoyed the demo. All it did was make me want more. I must say though im not taking the lack of dialogue seriously as there was too little too judge a game on, Action Mode was actually pretty decent but still not my thing, I need my RPG. I loved the environment, Felt a little tight, but I loved the environment. I wish the beginning is actually alot longer in the actual game.

I loved the AIs, they actually proved a challenge.

The Sensitivity is sooo much better.

The Weapon sounds are amazing.

The Feel of the weapons is amazing.

I cant wait too sink my teeth in the actual game Bioware, Keep up the good work!

I haven't read through the many pages before this, so this may have already been said, but...

I really felt awkward playing the demo (RPG mode, XBox). I've played ME1 and ME2 several times each, but moving around, ducking into cover, and general combat felt really strange to me. Once I was in cover, I wasn't able to get out without a struggle, or my femShep wouldn't actually get IN cover, she just ran around in circles. I actually died in the demo because of this. Maybe it's because I haven't played ME in a while, but the controls felt really slippery, and I was all over the place. I was almost happy when the demo was over, because I felt like an amateur.

Did the cursor change? I found it nearly impossible to see where I was aiming. Is it blue? Is it red? It was really hard to tell, when anything other than white or black was behind it.

Then there's the cheesy lines. I got the feeling that the demo consisted of pieces of actual gameplay, that had been altered for demo format. Meaning that the place and situation may have been the same, but the dialogue between squaddies - that had to have been altered for the demo. Right? I'm going to assume that's the case, because some of it was awful, and I can't believe they would leave that stuff in the real game.

I'm still excited for ME3, so I'm just going to assume tha the demo was a little rough, and leave it at that.

WHY is the normandy under alliance control?!?
It is my ship or that of cerberus. Why am I hanging on earth with the alliance?

Loved every second of it. I don't think the intro is rushed or confusing. Maybe it's because I already knew Vega from the marketing, but by the little exchange they have at the beginning, it's pretty clear he's your buddy. Then Anderson presents-ahead the defense committe, so you know who the people in the tables are. I didn't have problems following what was going on. Cool banter, too. The "honorary Krogan" line cracks me up.:D

It was curious that the dialogue wheel had always two options instead of three, particularly when ME3 was supposedly going to put special attention to the neutral path so it will be as good as the paragon and renegade paths. But that's probably because this is a demo and you need to show off the flashier aspects of the game, so that's probably the reason. Not a worry in that case.

Technically it's pure love if you ask me. Graphics, sounds, movements, everything is better than expected. When you go out in the first level, impressive environment. Also, it surprised me that turning on antialiasing had absolutely no cost in performance while making the game look quite prettier. How can that be?

The only thing I noticed is cosmetic: the new bob hair looks rather terrible on my Shep, so unless it's tweaked somehow, she's going to have to go buzz cut this time. Oh well, I can go with that. Like Ripley in Alien 3. ^_^

Loved everything but two aspects:

1. Requirement to carry 4 weapons on Sur'Kesh was a big problem for tech/biotic classes.
2. Learning curve on new Shepard acrobatics, but I'm fairly confident it'll be "awesome" once I get comfortable with the system.

I enjoyed the demo. Some of the mechanics felt awkward but that could be more my unfamiliarity of the controls. It is just a demo but overall I thought it was great.

Try doing a "light" melee first to stagger the enemy then do power melee. Obviously this may not work in the middle of a large group. In that case I like to pause (hold bumper for Xbox), point my crosshairs at an enemy, unpause and do power melee.

Just my thoughts

This is what I liked:
+ Face textures are pretty high, a nice upgrade from ME2
+ Anti-aliasing is finally included
+ Music is fantastic from what I can tell. They did a great job of mixing the previous two soundtracks while adding some new elements
+ Reaper sound effects are menacing and weapons for the most part have a nice sounding punch to them.
+ Shepard moves like a hamster on speed now, it's nice and snappy.
+ Love the AI, teammates use cover and don't get killed while enemies act like they want your skin. Love it :)
Now the negatives:
- Some clothing textures are downright ugly, like Shepard's Aliance attire while other are pretty nice looking, Wrex's armor in particular. Inconsistency.
- Wrex and Mordin sound weird. I know Mordin got a new VA but Wrex sounds like a grandpa.
- UI was too big in ME2, now it's too small. LIke I need glasses to recognize what I have in the quickbar.
- The enemy health bar is changed, for the worse I feel. I liked the smoothness of ME1's and ME2's. It flashes too much and doesn't go down as smoothly.
- Sprint/Use/Roll/Cover is still only one button. It's understandable on consoles but on PC we have a whole keyboard to use. That button is getting progresivelly worse, it's not working at all. When I want to get into cover, I roll. When I want to Use I sprint...
- M-8 Avenger sounds and acts horrific. It sounds like ME1 version, only worse since the fire rate is slower. It was just fine in ME2!

Overall it's pretty awesome, nitpicking aside. :P

Pros:
- Character face models look refined and more detailed
- Interesting array of sound effects for Reapers, sounds very 'Doctor Who' like
- Femshep has a nice selection of hair updates, which is very welcome
- Surprisingly Freddie Prinze Jr.'s voice just matches Vega's visuals, was fearing his voice would be too higher pitched for the role
- Like the changes to ability upgrade choices
- Both Kaiden and Ashley look very good

Cons:
- HORRIDLY low texture resolution on characters/weapons/Normandy, unacceptable these days!
- Very underwhelming introduction of the Reapers to Earth
- Compared to ME2, mouth animation's are very poor and dont appear to sync well with voice audio
- Unnecessary addition of rolling around the battlefield, causes issues when trying to stick to cover quickly since they are bound to the same friggin key

Without reading other posts and possibly distoring my opinions:

-- I think the opening was pretty good for new players so they wouldn't get bogged down in details and could skip pretty quickly to the "combat tutorial". For a game DEMO this is likely the best start.

-- In terms of those that import saves [obviously talking about the real game] I believe an opportunity may have been missed. I think starting the game off with Shepard's "recall message" would have been better. [Basically start the game with Shep on the Normandy]. Things like negotiating amnesty for your crew, perhaps assigning your crew to various missions, etc. could have had an immediate impact on galactic readiness. After this Shep goes to Earth, we have a "pretrial hearing", Shep is likely sentenced to house arrest before the main trail starts [I.E. he's grounded]. Then the Reapers attack before the real trial starts. You could reuse 99% of the "new players" opening here. [Note: You wouldn't want this in a DEMO but having it in the game itself would have been nice]

-- At low levels [I guess based on loadout] powers seemed to cool down too quickly. Under a nearly full loadout the cooldowns seemed too long. I think there is a middle-ground to be achieved.

-- I assume there were work benches or some other mechanic to upgrade weapons, armor, whatever. Apparently I'm blind beyond belief because I didn't notice those.

-- With "caster" classes I felt less like a surgeon and more like a power spamming idiot. The funny thing is the power spammer seemed to be more effective than the tactical surgeon.

-- I liked how the level design && AI worked together. When I wasn't paying attention the AI actually managed to "sneak up on me". This is much better than ME 2 level design & AI as you're rarely forced to reevaluate your field position, cover, etc. during a fight.

-- I hated one of the cover controls. Basically if you're on the edge of cover and move the directional stick too much you will move around your cover while still being attached to "cover" ... While very useful when done intentionally when done accidentally [which is a little too easy] it likely means death. Note: The interaction between that move, camera controls, etc. only tend to make things worse if you do this accidentally.

-- I liked not having to jump through hoops just to open a stupid door.

-- It would have been nice to have been able to play with loadout settings in the demo itself so we could get a better feel for the systems involved. Either that or come up with some loadout presets that made a whisker more sense.

-- I liked that you got a little higher XP awards on higher difficulty settings.

-- I wish there were more chances to see how RP desicions would dynamically effect the mission / reactions / etc.

I felt the same way at first, but after a while I got used to it and grew to really like it. I still find the I occasionally do things I don't mean to, but I can tell it's because I'm unconsciously still doing/moving like I did in ME1.

I did not like the user interface, subtitles, dialogues wheel too small and also way too low on the screen, please return to the style of ME2

I hope so because this is a demo, because if you launch so it will be very disappointing.

I didn't like the new way powers are presented. They just looked peculiar to me, whereas in ME2 I could really follow the powers and all. The powers were more defined I guess is what I'm getting at.

As for it being the DEMO. It was just a rotten demo. I can try out all the different aspects. I can't try out an Infiltrator with a sniper rifle, or a warp and overload spamming Sentinel. I can't get a good idea of how my favorite classes play out. I could try them in different ways, but the cut scenes can't be skipped, and take up more time than playing. I'd have appreciated an option that was "Full Playable Demo" or something, so I can just get into the action, witness how the game feels.

Further, it didn't showcase the new additions to gameplay particularly well. It was nice fighting cerberus, but when it came down to it, it was soldiers, things I've fought in ME2 a lot. The occasional shield carrying targets and some smoke. The cannibals were neat but essentially the same thing. There weren't enough points to try upgrading different powers and experience the evolutions, not worth the time it takes to get to that point of the demo again anyway.

At the very least, what happened to "Shepard can pick up enemies weapons and use them?" Something minor like that should have been in the demo.

Altogether, I wasn't a fan of the demo, though I'm still excited for the game. Really I'm hoping for a DA2 bait and switch. The demo there was fun but the game was crap, now it's time for the opposite to hold true.

Also: melee combos are awesome.

Very impressive for a Demo. Few minor complaints regarding dialogue etc. That said it is a demo and based on the franchise's previous episodes I'm sure the full game will be excellent

I really hope people are right about the demo being locked into more of an "action mode" to save space. I really miss being able to control everything Shepard says - remember the good times when you could go make some coffee while Shepard just stood paused on a dialogue decision, with the rest of the galaxy awaiting his/her choice of response? :) Now it's just long cut scenes with the player as a spectator...

Shepard said a lot of things in the intro that my ME1/2 Shep would never say. My Shepard would have knocked Anderson out with the butt of her gun and dragged him on to the Normandy with her, and if this was ME1 the Devs WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT CHOICE, allowed you to do it and built an entire subplot and party setup around it :pinched:

And my reaction to seeing some characters was "lol you guys are both dead in my game, I wonder who will replace you in the final version". That was actually a positive since it got me a bit more eager for the release date to arrive.

I guess worst case scenario is the game is really bad as an RPG (as the demo is) so smart players mod it to death on PC to make a better game, rescuing the final installment :D

SInce this is the last one I don't see why the Devs can't release a proper modding tool so we can go forwards and build our own extra quests for Shepard. There are enough funny interviews with the FemShep VA to piece together some hilarious new fully voiced adventures. :D

[[oops edited to remove ME2 spoilers :)]]

Searched a bit but couldn't find an answer behind all the pitchforks and torches...

What is up with the unlocks? Do you have to play the Multiplayer as well to get them?

Loved it.Just as it should, it feels like Mass Effect at a climax. Only with better gameplay and sharper visuals. More excited than I already was.

The gameplay was pretty amazing - fast, tight, bugs from ME2 cleared making for a very enjoyable experience. The pacing and visuals were good too. I liked that the cover may not... cover... you fully and you still get grazing shots if you pick a wrong spot. The only thing I didn't like was that squad members didn't call out when using powers anymore, and lack of customization crippling the power classes in the demo.

However, the RPG side shown was sorely lacking. Lots of auto dialogue, not a single interrupt, not even a short moment to hang out with any squad member, no persuasion/intimidate option, not even an "investigate". The dialogue itself was at the usual high level (the cringe-worthy "fight or die" from the trailer finally making sense in context), but it was just some illusion of choice with same results, bare-bones at the most.

Lastly, few glaring things: the obvious cruiser being called a "dreadnought", Shepard and Anderson sliding down a building without damage, weapon lights no longer switching color to red while idle, thermal clips being called "ammo" (did you finally give up on trying to explain the system in-universe?). This could be called minor gripes, but precisely because of that it should be easy to prevent them...

All in all, 9+/10 for action, 6/10 for RPG side. Somewhat disappointing that even with the "RPG setting" you don't seem to be able or willing to throw us RPG fans out there a decent bone.

And I really, really hope that kid doesn't show up unharmed in the end. Nothing personal against the "character", but it would cheapen the pathos of the whole scene severely (especially since it's just one from ~8 billion on Earth... what are the odds).

Biotic classes that din't mind abusing Throw Bombs ruled on SurKesh.  Any skill that has 0 cooldown on a "bomb" is obviously a winner.

Engineers had a harder time but things like Sabotage and either a high level turret or drone mostly did what was needed.

pros:
-the scale of everything is amazing
-cinematics were improved
-brilliant music
-combat is very intense. Insanity is a blast
-the enemy AI is great
-guns feel and sound awesome

cons:
-I noticed some VERY ugly textures
-the cover system is annoying. Shepard doesn't do what I want him to.
-no keyboard shortcuts. Using the powers screen is painful

I love what I saw. I really do. But I am annoyed by the fact that the problems I have listed could be resolved very easily, yet nothing was done about them.

So after playing through the demo and multiplayer and letting it sit for a while I've come to a conclusion.

The cutscenes are better done this time around, however, the plot goes WAY too fast. 4 Minutes in and the reapers are ALREADY attacking? Where's the suspense? Where the build up? Intergalactic genocidal machines are coming to kill us, and they're just like "Ya, we're here now!"

Also... ADMIRAL Anderson? I know you can't import choices yet but even in the trailer Kieth David said he was playing an Admiral... What happened to me putting him on the counsel? I guess that's just another "choice" Bioware discarded.

I'm also uneasy about the whole "Action Mode" feature. Sure it's OPTIONAL, but I have to ask, why was it implemented in the first place? Is Bioware PLANNING on removing REAL, meaningful choices? Is this feature just another transition into a Gears of War clone?

The combat is alright once you get used to it. The rolling around is a bit over the top however since it REALLY isn't necessary to survive. It just seems like an ADD feature that was tagged on.

The multi-player. Awful. Absolutely no reason to have wasted time on it, and it will be the Mass Effect equivalent of Dead Space 2s multi-player, a wasted features no one really cares about. And yes, Chris I WOULD have chosen wavy hair over multi-player.

The level design is better, the maps SEEM larger and there is more Z axis action going on. No complaints there.

I'm really bothered by how fast the story is going however and starting to question if this is going to be one giant hallway where it's one mission after the other and no RPG or exploration features in between.

I doubt I'll be getting ME3 any time soon
