Is it worth playing the demo ? I don't generally like playing demos which use story missions. I'd prefer if they made a demo specific mission so as not to spoil the main game. Does this demo have that ?

It was alright. I might not have bought the game if it was like the demo, but I know that the demo is a mere shell of the actual retail version.

No, you are playing story missions. At least until the multiplayer is opened up on the 17th.

If you've been watching the trailers & videos so far, though, the demo doesn't spoil the game any further. If you've been intentionally avoiding even those, then yeah, might want to skip the demo.

It doesn't spoil much. If anything, it just let old ME fans to have a nice time with old friends like Wrex, Garrus, Liara and Captain Kirrahe. And the VS too, briefly. And the mission, other than the tutorial, is short, fun and just made me want MOAR!

Has anyone in Europe (PS3 user) downloaded the demo already. I can't find it anywhere?

Yeah a lot of the negative posters on here are forgetting that I think. I'm going to try and wait for the game itself. It's going to be tough. But I have Skyrim to get me through it.

Edit - Well I almost lasted 10 minutes. I'm off to download the demo..

I enjoyed the demo over all but I thought it was very lackluster. I know that that is probably because of the fact it IS a demo and hopefully was severely stripped down. Was it worth the 10 hour download time from XBL.....in short not really. I enjoyed it because it was something to tide me over until the full release, but due to the hopefully severely stripped down segments, I'm kinda disheartened and wondering if this game will be worth the CE.

Pros:
-Graphics overall even though not great (because demo) are better.
-The cut scenes are amazing. I loved the shuttle flight in the second section.
-Good to actually see more than just the cargo section of the shuttle.
-Facial animations while still off and uncanny have more movement to them and more expression, my favorite one was the Female admiral "How'd they get past our defenses?!?"
-Over all the character creator was better in my opinion, although would like better context in how the KIA's psych profile effects in game. If my Shep is a Sole Survivor I doubt losing a few more people would effect him much.
-Glad to finally SEE Earth. (although there should be a more open exploring section in the beginning. I really hope this isn't the full intro to the game for multiple reasons. I want to see Alliance HQ before its blown up, and I need CONTEXT!)
-Music score is AWESOME! Like everything it can be improved on but I enjoyed it rather well
-Voice acting is a LOT better
-Good to see the character tie ins as promised...nice to know somethings that were promised are in the game when others might not be *cough* trial *cough* (seriously Bioware if that trial isn't in there and/or you don't make up for it with adding it later as FREE DLC, since it was hyped and promised, then hope that MS doesn't block used games on the new XBOX because all your games will be rentals from now on and not out right purchases/preorders...I learnt my lesson from DA2 and maybe from ME3..we'll see.
-Sound effects are great
-the powers feel more...powerful with the animations and sound
-the enemies are better imo
-The Shield/Health system is better I think
-I like how you need medigel now and health doesn't fully regenerate. THANK YOU
-The Power evolution is a nice touch I have to admit I like it better than both level up systems in the previous two games.

Cons: (again taken with a grain of salt due to this being a demo) *sorry if this feels like nit-picking*
-the backgrounds are obviously not meant to be looked at directly if you do you see that they weren't polished much. The people running from buildings are all the same and look like they were animated for the super nintendo. You can actually tell where the spawn points are because one is under a bridge and people just keep appearing from under it..I'll assume there is an escape tunnel... yeah lets go with that. Also the animation of them only works if you view them from a certain vantage point any other and you see them running up when their animation says they are running right, and the animations of the Reapers are clunky. (again hopefully just because its a demo and needed to save space)
-the movement of the characters in cut scenes is still rather uncanny if not more so than ME2 same for the lip sync
-Dismayed by the amount of auto-dialogue even for a demo
-Renegade and Paragon script is pretty much the EXACT same in some spots. The worse offensive one was the last bit on the Normandy when Anderson is going to stay. Two dialogue options and they are almost exactly the same. What is the paragon and regnegade difference in "We're in this together!" as oppose to "We're in this together!!!!"
-I don't like how after Kaiden/Ashley's attitude towards you in ME2 that your Shep's reaction to them is excited or friendly. I would be giving him/her the cold shoulder or atleast be indifferent. Like in the briefing room I wouldn't have been excited or shocked to see them I wouldn't have said anything just acknowledge them and walk on. Same with the Normandy I wouldn't have thanked Ashely for doing her job and following Anderson's orders. (This better be because it was a demo and dialogue options were nixed for saving space)
-Where is my trial I was promised/hyped? (if there isn't one then I am going to be extremely upset. It was already stated a few times by someone that this was a great prelude into the story and could have setup the universe for new players and let all the rest of us veterans recap our trilogy so far. It would also have been a great spot for your background tie in again, such as if you were a War Hero they could have said they expected better from the Hero of Elysium or if you were an Earthborn Ruthless they could have said well I guess with your "at all costs" tactics we should have expected this behaviour. If it is gone and there is nothing before this "intro" in the demo then shame on you Bioware)
-Why is the Alliance brass asking me for defense advice after they stripped me of my rank.
-Dialogue seems to make Shep seem more paragon even if you're going for a more Renegade approach, and over all in the intro it seemed like dialogue was written for a B movie.
-Then small oversights like where does Anderson get the pistol from. One scene he is running to make sure Shepard is alright (with no pistol strapped to his waist) then the next scene a huge white pistol is pulled from the cloaked holder and handed to Shep.
-I didn't feel engaged with the story at all emotionally or anyway really. I don't feel I have a say or stake in what happens or is happening (again hopefully because Im just missing context due to it being a demo)
-the trigger for the Normandy to show up needs to be changed. I was using an Adept and thought honestly that the demo bugged out and i was in a never ending loop of bad guys...on second thought maybe that is a good thing gives a literal feeling of "WILL THIS EVER END!"
-cover issues, I shouldn't be hit by fire when in cover unless the enemy has a talent or power to knock me out of it.
-The open environments and changing battlefields was not seen in the demo. The intro was very linear and the second section just had the option of staying on the main floor or going up stairs...and it was even suggested to me to go upstairs. Where is this choice of how to fight?
-sorry Wrex an air drop isn't a jump from 6 feet off the ground from a hovering shuttle.
-some voice glitches
-the honorary krogan comment seemed kinda...off and weird...like Shepard should be thinking.."uumm thanks...I guess.."
-what happened to some of my hairstyles? Were they cut just for the demo? If not then my Shepard will have different hair and I won't like that if I can't choose which.
-Would have liked to get my hands on the weapons table and the armor upgrades

Over all not bad, but it has made me wonder if I should get the CE or just save the money. The demo I feel wasn't a good representation of the game or atleast I hope it wasn't and just a stripped version to stay with in the demo size. Also why are you asking for our impressions if the game has already gone gold? How are you going to fix any issues people have with it?...and by reading alot of the posts there is a running theme(s) of what is wrong.

Finally why hasn't someone from Bioware atleast have left a message in the forums acknowledging the feedback?

Does the demo affect the main game save at all ? I noticed someone mentioned the character creation is in the demo.. It is a completely clean start when you purchase the retail version isn't it ?

Okay, I've finished four single player playthroughs of the demo so far (PC).
Personal ME history: Ten playthroughs of ME1 and ME2 (all imported).

This is what I liked:
- facial animations seem to have improved
- good graphics, running almost (see below) as smoothly as ME2 (720p, on my mediocre PC)
- new default femshep! (whatever people say, I think she turned out great)
- new enemy behavior (they sneak up on you, I like that)
- grenade powers and heavy melee (it's fun)
- more power customization
- embedded cinematics
- vanguard is more fun than ever
- music and sfx

What I liked less:
- control, especially regarding cover. (too often I ended up where I didn't want to go, but maybe I just have to get used to it.)
- cold opening (can't put my finger on it, but the opening felt "cold" and empty. It just didn't convey the weight and importance of what was happening around Shepard. It also lacked the feeling of "coming home" for those who played part 1 and 2. But maybe this is a different thing with an imported Shep)
- no user feedback when using powers (you can click on powers but the icon won't indicate that your click changed something)
- motion blur (maybe it's personal taste, but I never liked that in games. would like to see an option to turn it off)

I'm going to try sentinel and engineer today, so maybe i'll add some points later.

I seriously trying to read all this thread carefully, but now it grow rather big, so some, if not all of things I’m typing here probably already being said, sorry if you find them redundant.
Some addendum, based on relatively fresh head, clear thoughts and some new data.

Pros:
Shame on me, completely forget about this yesterday. Lack of minigame(s). Very, very, very, very, very good improvement. If ME3 will be without any of those minigames (including hacking), this point alone will be “justifying” enough for me to play game more than once, regardless of what you’ve done with story. Of course I’d like to have ME1 story, or, at least, ME2 story. But no irritation – good gaming.

As good Dragoonlordz said, I never bought RPG for combat alone. So, if ME3 will have as much combat and as little story as demo, well, easiest combat difficulties at least will make those combat smooth and slick, fast, and not as annoying grind as combats were in NWN1/2, DA1/2, whatever.

And now back to Cons.

Cutscenes and intros.
Let us skip them, please. All of them Seeing same scene for 5th-10th-20th time is really annoying. And for all what's still holy DON'T add that shuttle/relay/whatever movie while loading game. You stole several hours of my life for nothing! I could spent it playing game more, not watching those stupid movies!

Why it were those two shuttles with kid shot down by Reaper, BUT not Normandy? Reapers are THAT stupid to shot some small ships ignoring big one? That’s idiotic. IMHO Reaper is not needed there at all – add those flying “comets” or “boulders” or whatever they are, let them shot down those shuttles, if you want to use that “tear-squeezing”. Or make shuttles to do some emergency landing, leaving cliffhanger about kid’s fate. And if Shepard will do everything right, add that kid to outro, either mourning Shepard’s death (since I’m pretty sure you going to kill him anyway) or welcoming and greeting him for victory.

And final scene at Normandy – why when Shepard and Anderson talks, there is almost no background noise? What, Reapers are so polite so they stop their rampage and let two plot characters to “enjoy the silence” and talk? Let them talk via radio, they are close, there should be minimal interference. Or better let them talk while Normandy flies away – those Kojima-style “blah-blah” in middle of fight looks even more idiotic than “suddenly” working radio.

Kirrahe-turret syndro… ehm, “cutscene”. Dear Bioware. We (at least I and one guy I personally known, may he rest in peace) hate that trick even in NWN2 model 2006. That’s six years ago. Hello, anybody home? You gave Cerberus those guys with shields, why relate to stupid, cheating cutscene and not allow those shield-troops naturally ran ahead, kneel, place their shield in front of them a-la Riot Police, plugging the pass and cover Engineer with their shields while he setting up that damn turret and then retreat to plug another pass? That’s unit cohesion, not cutscene, full of cretinism. It’s 2012, we had enough those “Deus Ex Machine”, please, stop. You have lot of tools, but not use them for some unknown reason. And why those guys with shields are slowly advancing on us at all? Why not let them to protect engineers from our fire? Or, if you insist on advancing, why other troops just rolling sideways on background, like we’re in Circus. We missing just some acrobats, flying on top and predators, jumping through flaming rings. Clowns are already present.

Trial.
Or lack thereof. Okay, let there be no trial (but imagine what your authors (thinking of someone named Drew K.) could done with NWN2-alike trial, only better…). But what about results? If Shepard lost, why he is in detention center, not in military prison? [Don’t tell me “he is too important for storyline.”] If he won, why he is in detention center and not reinstated and returned to active duty? Why there is trial in first place, under whose authority? If he was reinstated as Spectre, why there is trial at all (not “hearings” for example)? Or he lost his “spectrehood”? Why there is no possibility to follow TIM lead (ahem!) and “hell, yeah, join Cerberus”, ignoring trial at all? Shepard could be on Earth just following some TIM’s mission, when Reapers attack. IMHO that could be a really great fork, not that “we follow every decision made in first two games”. Aha. Yeah. Smile and wave. Given story is clear as bike and biker on muddy trail after heavy rainImage IPB (<that's face under goggles area). Anderson saying Shepard that “anyone else would be court-marshaled blah-blah”, while Shepard states he doesn’t follow Anderson’s order, thus means what – he was relieved of duty and stripped of his rank? What are results of that trial “ended just couple hours ago”?

City.
White, sterile, generic city. No emotions. Completely none. Yes, city, yes, under destruction by arch-nemesis, and? Still cold. Given amount of tragedies in the world, they turn to statistic – you cannot worry about everything or you’ll lose your mind. Want us to feel sorry for it? Make it personal.

If Shepard is Earthborn, make this city his home city. Let him met someone and/or have some flashbacks about his youth. If he is Spacer, make this city place where his parents met and/or wed – again, add flashback of their wedding photograph. If he is colonist – do the same, or say that was city his parents were from.

If he is War Hero – let him met someone from Elysium, thanking him again. If he is Ruthless, again, create some personal story here, like one of his former subordinates meeting him in court and gladly say something like “finally that bastard got what he deserved”. Even if he is Sole Survivor and Thombs is dead, add someone, say person who found him after that massacre.

Same goes for kid, but I already said about him in “Trial” thread, won’t copy-paste it here.

Difficulty.
Not pros/cons, just “thoughtsflow”Image IPB.
Finally was able to play Insanity. So far don’t get all those claims “it’s too difficult”. Just right. If not for “collateral” problems. One and most obvious one – cover-related issues. Shepard gets into cover he not supposed to and do not get into cover he supposed to. Someone here said Demo reminded him of ME1 game. Well, I second that – only there Shepard sticks to cover without tapping Spacebar.

Roll on double-tapping is fine, btw. Helped me once, got my Shep killed twice (one time – when he and Liara rolled towards each other, made some “forehead kiss” and were killed pointblank range by Cerberus commander. Insanity – Garrus wasn’t able to help.

Since we’ve being deprived from saving game where we want, I have question to person responsible for autosave checkpoint: why you hate people so much? Why you place respawn point right in front of turret’s muzzle? Why didn’t you placed more autosaves between second checkpoint and Atlas? I got my Shepards killed couple of times by Atlas and had to replay second part of second floor (past checkpoint) and then roof before Atlas. Maybe bug, not sure – didn’t happen at third time. Or maybe being killed not by Atlas, but his escort and game didn’t register save.

Atlas. Fiiiine, nice thing, remind me of Mechwarrior, only smaller (children size?). For three attempts to kill it (that’s successful ones), two times it’s being killed by Garrus, supposedly by one shot, while Atlas still had around 6 blocks of armor. "Why I don't have one of those"?Image IPB Third time it’s being killed by Shepard in old fashion way – through windscreen via Mattock (Gah, she sexy!Image IPB), one block by one.

Ammo.
Ahem. Is it just me or Shepard’s death replenishes his ammo supply? Not sure, really, but had that feeling. It DID replenished Krogan’s Pod integrity, though. Anyway, why not add a little bit more ammo on Insanity, since soldier’s adrenaline rush is not longer working fast? 20 seconds… Nah, thanks. Not much – 20, maybe even 10% of dropped thermal clips would be fine.

Cover AND field of view.
Like having problems with getting into and out of cover weren’t enough, having problems with cover… ehm… “cover” – ability to protect from incoming fire, few types of cover provide problems with line of sight. During several situations (on roof, mostly), I wasn’t able to see what I’m aiming at. For some of them it was cover blocking my LoS (not directly, I suppose, it was open balcony, but by limiting camera pivoting angles – TPS my arse, even Splinter Cell had options to change your grip from right-handed to left handed), for some – it was weapon butt (no kidding, but have no proofs, Origin is not Steam and doesn’t allow to make screenshots, at least I don’t know how to make them), in one case it was Liara. Generally I wouldn’t mind to look at any part of her, but not in situations like those.

Teammates.
Can’t say much for Anderson (run and shoot, shoot and run), but Garrus and Liara… Well, first, they still get into your line of fire when you least expect this. Not often, but happens, given those narrow corridors you put us into (agoraphobia anyone?). Generally I can’t say anything else bad at them – while I left them without attention for couple of times (well, I was running circles around Atlas and needed to take a leak, but double-tapped Esc), they managed to kill all Cerberus troops. Well, Garrus did – Liara was dead for most of the fight. Garrus survived direct grenade hit (or something looked like that). Good bullet magnet, I like. Liara was rather fragile, but still didn’t want to stay in cover I placed her, so she was dead most of the Atlas’ battles.

Grenades.
Grenades! Oorah! I mean "Ka-Boom!" I missed them so much. But wasn’t able to get how to accurately throw them – long shots mostly. Plus Shepard use great deal of time to throw them. With that accuracy – he could throw them without leaving cover. Maybe using Pause (Shift) will solve this, but hey, why increase gameplay speed, when you need to use pause to do something?

Movement.
Well, technically it should be with Cover part, since it’s usually cover-related issues. IMHO splitting Spacebar functions should help. Not very intuitive movement and cover entry/exit. Maybe it’s just me, of course, but now I have several playthroughs unger my belt, so probably not. Also, is it possible to stop climbing at ladder?

Powers.
Mostly same statement here (played as soldier only) – some forks are nearly useless. At least so far, maybe you put us into some situation where we need 50% melee damage increase. Though I wasn’t fan of those even in Dark Forces and Doom, still not fan now. Good riflebutt should work better.

Weapon.
Sounds still sucks, no offence. Even if you recorded them on real range with real guns – they sucks. They don’t feel like guns.
Projectiles’ muzzle velocities seem to be faster than in ME2, but since we are deprived of sniper rifles and their rangefinder, cant’ say for sure. They definitely are more pleasant to use now (soldier with SMG, wow, I like! Eviscerator is still good, but he always was "long range" one, at least I like it's spread, much better than before). Can’t say much for power and upgrades in general, since all our guns were MkI.

Sound in general.
In too many occasions some sounds were too loud, while some were too “silent”. Have no idea why those “fluctuations” are there – tested Demo on three PCs (one had separate (not built-in) Sound card) with two headphones and two speakers’ sets, still not sure it's hardware issue. Of course, maybe it was Demo-size related. Not BF3-grade sounds, definitely.

Overall resume:
Generally speaking it’s not that bad. But as someone stated here – it’s all about little things that spoils everything.
- Fix story. It’s RPG, not FPS. When FPS has better story that RPG, you start to think what’s wrong with this world.
- Fix cover, camera and movement issues. On Insanity cover, line of sight and movement contribute too much to survival to ignore them and leave on non-intuitive level. And Insanity is surprisingly pleasant and challenging to play. Fix those and it will be pure fun and joy. Good job, really. No jokes here, I'm serious,
- Fix weapon sounds. Since you put too many efforts into combat, make main soldier’s tool sound GOOD. Borrow some from Dice, I don’t know.
In that order.
Also I’d like to see animations and textures improved, but I can let it slide, if you fix those things above.
Ow, one word of advice – do not, I repeat, DO NOT hire animation specialists from Bethesda. Ever. Broom them out. Image IPB

To think that we have breathing masks so that we can see the great facial animation as some dev said sounds a bit off now ...I have several issues with the demo but nothing that has not been brought up already...for me the demo is 6/10...SP: 4/10 MP ironically: 8/10

Okay, here are my questions and thoughts on the demo. Instead of speculating on what is or isn't in the final version (which I understand is tweaked from what I just played), I am going to make like Jesse Ventura and "call it like I see it."

- I did actually like the arrival of the Reapers, but would have preferred a little more meat at the beginning - specifically addressing the events of Arrival and other decisions from Shepard's past. What playing this demo drove home to me is how way too much deference has been given to "first-time players". Movies and games may be different artforms, but the "Return of the Jedi"/"Return of the King" analogies are proving increasingly apt.

- I am taking it on faith that when I play the game, my assault rifle will not require constant trigger pulls and will actually function like an automatic weapon. I trust that Bioware is not repeating the same "Press 'A' for fun" mistake that they made with Dragon Age II's combat.

- I'm increasingly weary of video games taking the Zapp Brannigan approach to combat. Waves upon waves of men does not equal "Mission Accomplished!" It wasn't noticeable in the first part, but the Cerberus sequence in the second part grated on me in the same way that the combat in "Arrival" and certain parts of ME2 did. The combat outlived its fun and usefulness well before I got to the final battle.

- I like the idea of teaming up with Wrex and Mordin and especially Kirrahe, but if I'm going to team up with them, let me team up with them. All I could think about during that final sequence is, "Why hasn't Wrex done his Krogan airship drop thing to help out?" or "Where the heck are Kirrahe or any of the Salarian Task Group forces to lend a brotha a hand?" Character cameos are a great way to please everyone, but if you are going to have them, let us fight with them, too.

- That being said, I *loved* the dialogue between the old crew mates on the way to the facility. That's the kind of stuff that I am looking forward to, along with hopefully some more in-depth discussions and disagreements (which were absolute strengths in both Dragon Age games).

- I enjoyed the music, though must note the presence of a lot of familiar pieces, which makes me wish all the more that Jack Wall could have been involved in some capacity.

- The sound mix was pretty solid, especially at the beginning.

- Also, just a small aside. I took a moment to watch the wandering, fleeing crowd at the beginning of the reaper attack. Shouldn't the people be running away from the reaper, not to it? It was like watching all the kids get sucked up into the vortex at the finale of "Childhood's End".

- Spoilers for "Childhood's End" above.

- The dialogue felt a little thin in general, and I was saddened by a lack of any interrupts to try. I can't even tell you how many other RPGs or games I play where I find myself thinking how much better they would be for a few "renegade interrupts". And maybe I am in the minority as a gamer these days, but I genuinely found the walk to the admiralty board and that discussion more engrossing than the combat. Any time the story stops to breath and exists solely between the characters, ME3 just excels. I actually think the combat works fine, just that I worry that it will be in excess.

- I've seen some debate about holstering weapons, and certainly hope that's a feature that is present. On the flip side, thanks for listening to everyone regarding helmets in conversation. I appreciated the options on that one.

Alright, that's it for now...more later as I think on it.

I enjoyed the Demo a lot, but the controlls felt a bit awkward, I needed to use the X button for way to much, maybe allowing people to map buttons and actions would be good, and give an option to either play the hacking mini game and bypassing mini game would be good, but the story itself was really gripping and now I can't wait to get the full game.

I could go on and conteract several points on here.

Or I could write an epic prose on my thoughts and feelings.

But the only thing I can say is that I enjoyed it. I don't miss things like holstering my weapon because I maybe did it twice in 40 hours.

If you enjoyed the demo, you'll enjoy the game. If you look for the problems in everything, you'll never enjoy anything.

And that is really all there is to say, other than reporting bugs.

Bugs:

- Sometimes Adrenaline Rush doesn't have the side of screen effect.

I played the demo on PC.

Character Customization:

Why can FemShep have "naturally" purple hair (as in, there are matching eyebrows)? This doesn't sit right with me at all. I enjoyed the fact that most of the hair colours are natural (except for the darker/brighter reds) and seeing BRIGHT PURPLE threw me.

There are also no matching eyebrows for the darkest red hair (the colour on the far right of the slider) which upsets me because it's the hair colour I like the most.

The hairstyles seem entirely too "girly", and the hairstyle I use exclusively (the messy chin length hair) has disappeared. The hairstyles also seem extremely puffy/poofy and I don't think they suit the character at all.

There's also no option for facial scars. Why is there no option for facial scars? Shepard is a solider, they would have facial scars, regardless of the Renegade scarring from ME2.

The makeup looks badly done, and far too transparent. The colours are almost impossible to tell apart and there's no eyeliner/eyeshadow definition like there was in ME2.

The eyes are exceptionally creepy. Too glossy. The face model seems puffier than it should be, as well.

FemShep also looks far too young. The models in general are far too "pretty and shiny" and I don't think that is appropriate for FemShep to look around 5-10 years younger than she did at the start of ME1.

Gameplay:

The options at the start on how you want your experience to be [Story, Combat, whatever] threw me as well. I'm not sure I like the idea of it, but I just picked the "normal Mass Effect experience" one and went on my way.

The difficulty seemed spot on - however - I'm not sure if it was related to difficulty or not (I played on Insanity), but the frequency in which enemies threw grenades at me made me feel like grenades were used to "up the difficulty" and made me feel like I was playing Counterstrike, and I don't want to be playing "dodge the grenades with the terrible moving system"*

* The way that Shepard will roll out of cover. This is infuriatingly annoying and I wish it could be toggled off. I do not want to play Roly Poly Shepard when in combat.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but while using various cover, my game would "twitch out" and while my crosshairs would be in the middle of the screen, my gun ended up far over on the right, and Shepard's head blocked my view of what I was shooting - probably bad camera angle.

I did not like the running animations at all.

Also, the UI was exceedingly tiny at max resolution on a 30" monitor.

The UI "hints" all around the place annoyed me. "Your objective is over here!" "There's a grenade next to you, here's a flashing sign so you can avoid it so easily it may well have not been there!"

Mordin's constant yammering about "shield integrity fading, Shepard!" every five seconds was extremely overdone and obnoxious.

Storyline:

Wrex sounds far too "polite" and un-Wrexish when he's calling over the radio. Apparently he uses the wrong voice, but the words are what threw me.

The kid was badly done. It's the first time (I believe) a child has been shown in the Mass Effect universe and from the start he is used as nothing but a badly designed plot device engineered to make you feel sad for the destruction raining around you, whilst Shepard seems entirely unaffected. The child should not have been in the cutscenes at all, it's a cheap and badly done ploy. For shame on you for using it. I felt sad at the start of ME2 because I "knew" the people were dying, but the only emotion that child raised in me was annoyance at how transparent it was.

It may have been heavily edited as to prevent spoilers, but the introduction raised more questions than it asked for me. Has Shepard really been sitting around doing hardly anything in the time between ME2 and ME3? Why are they asking her for advice when they know the answers and are the ones who grounded her instead of letting her take to the skies to keep an eye on the situation everyone seemed to know was coming? Who the hell is James and why do I care?

The gameplay felt very choppy, and while I realize it was a demo, the only thing that made me excited about playing ME3 was the music during the introduction. (  )

Conclusion:

If the character creation is finalized I am extremely disappointed in it and as such will not feel like I am playing "my" Shepard that I went to hell and back with in ME1 & ME2. The storyline seems like it is taking a page out of the Dragon Age 2 book, which is the kind of book that should be burnt and never mentioned again due to how terrible it is. Mass Effect is my favourite Bioware franchise, but after playing through the demo I am more certain than ever that after being brought out by EA, Bioware is incapable of making a game that is on par to DA1 / ME1 & ME2.

I'm Commander Shepard, and I don't think I'm going to enjoy ME3 at all.

5/10.

So i was playing the demo today and it was very bad. I know it's just a demo, but it's also the finished product this late in production. The game doesn't allow holstering weapons because of memory problems? Maybe if they took out some gay sex scenes they would be able to fit in more gameplay and better background images. They included an option for the game to CHOOSE dialogue for you, what kind of bull**** is that? They also an inexcusably expensive caste of voice actors and turned Jessica Chobot into an avatar for the only sole purpose i can think of which is FANSERVICE and not just typical fanservice, it's so you can fulfill your dark fantasy of having 3d avatar homosex with her. This is NOT a game, it's a poorly written novel by a fat lady who has no choice but to tack on "gameplay" because the video game audience is the only group of people on the planet who have never exposed themselves to good literature due to being lazy and fat and can appreciate such a spewing of diatribe and an insult to science fiction that is MASS EFFECT 3

Ok, in this Video BioWare Pulse - A More Dynamic Shepard, 1:40 to 1:55,
we see shepard go to cover and turn a corner while still in Cover, i tried it many times
but still have not done it, im playing it on PS3, maybe someone one XBox or PC had more luck.
Or I am doing it wrong, if someone with a PS3 has done it, please tell me how

Press L3 (left analog stick)

I had same prob until I did it by accident. What I haven't figured out is how to pull someone over a cover object. I've seen the "fist" prompt but....

lol what? i made perfectly valid points and the only thing you could say was that you were tired of other peoples opinions. Stanely Woo steped in because everyone on this forum derails threads that hint at juxtaposed opinions to ME3.

You're the one bothering to respond which implies that you are butthurt in reality.

So my quick thoughts on ME3 PC demo:
1. My Shepard can look the same as in ME1 and 2 (maybe some wierd eye color but nevermind)
2. Graphic quality seems lower than ME1 and 2 (probably low resolution for demo ... at least i hope so)
3. Bugs in cutsceen animations
4. FOV ... i mean OMG are you serious? I just finished ME3 and i think my head will explode with this terrible headake! I have 24" 1920*1200 H-IPS monitor and this unbearable (just put FOV variable in some ini file and all will be good, pretty please).
5. Voice acting seems even better!
6. Lack of music (again probably just demo)
7. No inventory and talent tree in demo? I realy hope it will be like ME1 and not dumbed down like ME 2 in final version.
8. Multiplayer ... i don't care i didn't play it.

Overall demo looks not polished at all and i will wait for some independent review and ofcourse FOV FIX (my god this is basic PC stuff developers, realy :-( )

Bioware thanks for Clint Mansell as music composer - i realy like his music and i probably will love ME3 soundtrack more than actual game :-D

Dear Chris Priestly, Developers and fellow fans,

First and foremost I would like to congratulate the developers and everybody who had something to do with the whole project for your hard work, blood, sweat and tears, and last but not the least love and passion you put into this game (or piece of art I very much hope)! So, congratulations and thank you! Now let me give you some feedback on the demo as I experienced it after a good night's sleep and a day's work. So it's kind of a second impression with a clearer mind and soul.

Well, today I played the demo again and I have to say that it still annoys the hell out of me. Not because I'm a hater or because I have anything against Bioware or EA or games primarily developed for consoles, but because it's evident that it has lots of potential, but it is still very unpolished, and feels very much like an early leak, a work in progress, if you will with several unresolved issues.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the demo, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth and it leaves me with the hope of it being only a very early version of the game and do not resemble the quality of the actual final product. I don't want to be disappointed with the last installment of my favourite sci-fi game series (don't get me wrong I try to be as open minde as possible, but all this hype raised my expectations a bit), let alone I don't want to feel dissapointment and anger for spending my hard earned money on the CE when the quality does not live up to the firts two games at least.  - So the issues I found: (sorry for linguistic and grammatic errors in advance, my mother tongue is Hungarian)

1. It's full of bugs

a) disappearing and backshifting reaper : I'm talking about the first one you come across in the game. While you're talking to the kid it moves by the building you are in - at least its legs do (you can clearly see it), but when you get out of the building it's back in its original position again, and last but not the least it simply disappears after the fall you make when the warship goes down). Mysterious to say the least.
B) disappearing gun during animation : It happens in Surkesh during one of the cutscenes at a checkpoint.
c) invisible turret : it happened to me once. One of the turrets seemed invisible, but it was fiering at me as hell, though the little red frame appeared when I aimed at it with "my" gun, so I put sneeky bastard
to rest.
d) Wreave's voice is on the radio instead of Wrex's.

2. It has unresolved motion and controll issues:

a) Sprinting feels unnatural and it looks like you just float in the air. Let alone there's no exhaustion as such.
B) The problematic cover system: There were occasions when I simply couldn't get into cover, but kept rolling against the wall. There was one time when I tried to shoot from behind cover and Shep didn't lean out from behind the wall but leaned against it so I could only shoot the metal plating on it. ME2-s cover system was a lot more dynamic.
c) The omni-button:  I'm talking about the spacebar here. Sometimes tends to get irritating then you want to do one thing with it but you keep doing something else.
d) Basic movement speed is way slower then in earlier installments.
e) Lack of the holster gun option.
f) Sensitivity of power buttons are pretty low: I happen to be a pc player, so I don't know wether it happens to console players, but it happens quite often that whenever I clikck on a power button with my mouse, nothing happens, so I have to repeat it a few times in a row.  It takes a lot from the combat dynamics.

3. Graphics and animation: I find the graphics a bit ambivalent. It is very nice and spectacular and seems to be very unpolished at the same time. IMHO ME2 looked way better when it comes to actual graphics, lighting and colours. Animation is a lot better though - and it is a huge improvement from all the previous games, except for facial animation and few minor issues. I loved the small details and the delivery of animations between parts where you controll Shepard and cutscenes. It flows really well.

a) Textures are blurry and their resolution is pretty low: It's especially evident when you look at the characters clothing or at the buildings in the backround (they seem to be unfinished models that lack detail and depth).
B) I miss the movie grain effect very much.
c) Some tiny issues with background animation: 2D husks running sideway, fighters shooting at reaper fly through the reapers etc.
d) Facial animations are lacking and unnatural sometimes (especially wiht Anderson) compared to the previous games.
e) Water animation is pretty bad in the prologue.
f) Backgrounds, sets seem to be a bit lifeless sometimes (especially in Surkesh).
g) It's very annoying when the bodies of shot enemies disappear just like that without any animation and it happens right in front of your eyes after about 2-3 seconds.

3. Story, script, dialogue system:

a) Autodialogue and lack of choices. In the demo the good old dialogue and choces and concequences system which both played a huge part in making the whole series remarkable and so popular are pretty much absent. Hopefully it's a demo only issue.
B) Uninspired, way too cheesy or sensless dialogues and situations occur quite frequently in the demo. I hope it's because it's an earlier, premature version of the script, but I don't get my hopes to high on this one.
c) If this is the real prologue of the game indeed, then I got to say that it's the one that is the worst by far in the series - no matter the potential and the spectacular setting. As a script-piece it does not work, it leaves nothing but confusion and questions in the players (even in those who played the firt two installments). It does not let you get involved in the plot at all. It rashes things and lets no warming up for the events that are coming. Even as an in medias res it doesn't work well at all. A slower pace, more sensible dialogues and an opportunaty to get familiar with past and recent events and to be introduced to certain individuals would have made it a lot, I mean a LOT better. Don't forget that these are first moment of a very anticipated game. I hope it does not resemble the whole script and the pacing of the whole game. It's pretty sloppy and uninspired. I also miss the trial as a consequence to Arrival - it could have been a relevant scene plotwise.
d) Some of the characters are out of their characters in the demo (e.g.: Wrex fearing to land with the shuttle because of potential danger... I mean... come on!)

Other then all this, it is pretty enjoyable and I can't wait to experience the real deal.

Thanks for reading!
