Probably a good thing since many players would probably end up with Shepard in a dungeon.

Why not. It was funny to get executed in kotor if the player made the wrong speech.

Wouldn't be bad if the execution was prompt or Shepard was assassinated by a Batarian nationalist on Earth after conviction. We could call it the "Epic Fail Achievement" where the game ends in 15 minutes. "You Lose" shows on the screen. Roll credits.

But then if in the cell awaiting execution, it would start like Gears 1 on Emergence Day except with Anderson letting Fenix... er Shepard out of the cell. Unfortunately that would require an entirely separate scripting module and voice acting module as they fight their way out to the Normandy. And if you were to be consistent with that, you'd have to have more different dialog options up until the first act boss fight. Cost would be prohibitive.

The other way would be to make it so that Shepard would be out on bail pending appeal, and things start as they did anyway, in which case nothing would need to change. Since any competent JAG would appeal this is the situation you'd have. Hence no need to even have the trial as part of the game.

PS: I'm on a 360, so that "secret" achievement would have been worth the effort.

Nice demo!

I'm kinda disappointed that the sniper rifle isn't in it, which kinda gimps me since my favorite class is infiltrator. :/

Wait, did someone above say holstering WON'T be in the full game?! That's just... horrible.

Now you can toggle of your helmet during conversations... but to do this, they had to remove the holster option.
Can't have all... right?!

For the money they get on previous two and the money they gonna get with this one, they could've made a game with no problems, using photo realistic graphics (for PC at least).

I really hope that their new character designs won't effect the imported Sheps too much, mostly because I will be extremely displeased if I can't finish the game with the Shep that I started with, even if she is a little derpy at times. I did take my personal code from ME2 and tried it in the demo and it was just weird looking. I sincerely hope that I am not the only person who thought this.

You're not. I barely recognized my own character, which was frustrating - I've grown quite attached to her, and all of a sudden she was like a complete stranger. The hairstyle's different, the eyes look a bit glassy, even her facial structure seems different and almost cartoonesque.

Was I the only person who hated the new Femshep hairstyles? Honestly. In my opinion, the buns and the ponytails looked like they elongated her head. I don't want my Shepard to have an egg shaped head. I know that this is merely superficial, but it was my first impression of the game, which left an extremely horrible taste in my mouth and made me extremely anxious. I'm hoping that it was merely a demo glitch or something of the like, but the hair looked horrible. (I'm sorry if I'm reiterating from a previous post, but I don't exactly have the time to look back on forty five pages of posts.)

Moving along from those lines, I did enjoy the demo, generally, but I didn't really appreciate the lack of sniper rifle for the Infiltrator.

Nope, you weren't the only person. They looked pretty amateurish to be honest.

I also found that inputting my ME2 character code into the demo resulted in an appearance that looked quite a bit different from ME2 as well. That coupled with the fact that, for some reason, Bioware have decided to mess about with some of the other settings is rather annoying. The eyeshadow, for example, used to be quite varied, and there were two quite dark variants. Now they are all very light and there is so little difference between shades that there's no discernible difference in game. So why even bother?

To be quite honest, I generally find the Mass Effect character creator pretty dire. Most of the options for eye shapes and noses and mouths range between comical and hideous, with only a few useful options that fall within the range of being acceptably human. That and the fact that characters still appear to have that slightly cross-eyed look that was 'introduced' in ME2, i.e. if the right eye is looking directly forward the left is looking slightly off to the right. Come on, guys... How difficult can it be to get that correct..?

I realise that a lot of people probably don't give a hoot about their character's appearance, and see any complaint along the lines of the above as too trivial to even bother with. That's fine. That's your choice. I'm happy for you. No, really, I am. But if you're going to include something like a character appearance creator, then at least make a bit of an effort to make it a good one. And stick to the same options if the character is going to be transferred between games.

My avatar pic is my ME2 Shepard. A cropped screenshot straight from the game. And yet, as it is, in the ME3 demo, it is impossible for me to replicate this look.

I guess the question there is, why the heck not?

I just played it and loved it. Amazing fun!!!

Some things concern me, tough.

The game seems to have become discolored. Or is greyish. Like the cinema "bleach bypass" technique. But it seemed a little exaggerated. It´s very grey and lifeless. It really stands out from the rest of the series. And not in a good way.

Cover should still be a little better. I know the goal is to make games more dynamic each time, but you shouldn´t push it. Improve AI and flanking, but not force you to move by also making cover like a Swiss cheese.

The voices. I hope those are just "stand ins" for Mordin and Wrex. Or Wrex´s voice just needs to get tweaked and made low again. Maybe the effect is missing, like in one scene on ME1. Because it´s very frustrating to have 2 characters with different voices already on the demo. (I think it was right by the end of the demo, but I´m not sure it wasn´t just wishful thinking.

Other than that, I´m expecting a fantastic game.

Combat was so much fun. Sentinel is thankfully still my baby, even if the cool downs were crazy in the demo. I can't wait to just carry my shotgun into a fight to bring the ability recharge down. Insanity wasn't frustrating either; it was difficult but not rage induced-control throwing.

Great demo, though I would say the ability to skip the cut scene at the end of the earth level would be cool. Y'know which cut scene. On my third playthough I started muting the TV and turning away for a little while because I still wanted the impact from it when I get the full game, and watching the scene everytime I wanted to test combat took away some of the emotion from it.

The demo has got me really excited for next month now. Oh also, putting the character creator at the beginning of the game? Thank you, Bioware. Thank you so, so much.

As far as I know - no. Avenger and tempest are full-auto, Mattock is semi-auto.

Mordin has indeed been recast. I doubt this is going to be a frequent thing going into ME3 though, since BioWare tends to pride itself on a fairly high level of VA retention. (I understand they screwed the pooch a bit down in Austin with DA2 though, so I don't know, let the naysayers win this little argument: maybe this is going down the drain a tad.) But still, as much as I love Michael Beattie (see my banner) and while I'm pursuing a career in VA work to some extent and all that, I have to say... the new VA isn't bad.

As for Wrex, it's the same guy as before. The trouble is twofold: a.) some of the radio chatter is clearly his brother Wreav; something failed an if:then check in the demo code. Let's hope that was sorted out before the game went gold. b.) Some of the bass (that boom in his voice) seems to have been toned down a tad. Not a fan, but ah well.

I already saw your post. No need to be so off topic.

In fact, I've changed my mind completely. I think things like not holstering weapons and no walking is great. It means we can focus on the action more. Also, stuff like less choice of dialogue and Michael bay-esque camera work means the whole thing feels like an interactive movie, especially how we have almost no choice over what Shepard says now.

The low res textures are great! It means consoles can run it at 30fps without too much problem, I'm actualy starting to think any dips in framerate are completely intentional for dramatic effect. I mean it's awesome seeing a biotic punch in slow motion with that choppy motion effect. Really amazing to look at. And it still looks great right? PC gamers should be happy with what they have!

And the script writing has been very much simplified to help bring in a wider audience that likes games where there is little emphasis on storytelling and more emphasis on action.

As for the bad animations, this is great as it lets Bioware cut down on time and money to maximise profits, because Bioware deserves so much money for their effort. i think they should bring up all DLC prices to 1600ms points, because I think they are that and deserve my money.

I hope you all agree with me. I think what I've said is perfectly reasonable and acceptable here.

I enjoyed it but i did have some issues with the movements. Wasn't sure if it was my controller (played Xbox) but when i was using the wheel I had to hold the controller to the right so everything didn't move so much to left. Also when in cover, character kept moving to the left. Anyone else have this issue or was it just me? My other games don't do this. It will be fun to see what the rest game has to offer.

I just downloaded and played the demo and was quite dissapointed to be honest. I already see a lot of criticism about the dialogue, which I was very frustrated with as well, but as I read here and there, not all dialogue options were in the demo so far so I'll just let that point rest and hope that there will be better (and more) dialogue options in the final game.

I know that most things have been said before, but the more feedback you get, the more serious it will be taken.

But there were some other points that dissapointed me:

- The unavoidable feeling of playing ME3 on a console. The menu is fully customized for keyboard and mouse, yet the haptics of the game feel like they are directly ported from a gamepad. One button for everything? Really? My keyboard has over 100 buttons, at least 20 of which are at the disposal of my left hand. I always saw the Mass Effect universe as a complex construct. Having such simple controls kind of destroys that image for me. To be honest, it almost felt like Serious Sam at times. Also, the graphics are really disappointing from a PC point of view (except for the characters, which are marvelous, as usual).

- I know it's part of the development team's decision on where to go with a character, but why exactly does Ashley have to look like she spent the past 6 months on Jersey Shore?

- Using the Omni Tool as a melee device. What? It's a holographic interface. How can it possibly to any harm other than blind someone? I always respected ME for the attempts to find a (however small) connection to actual science for the things we experience in game, such as eezo for example.

- Why exactly is the camera on the right side of the character? ME1 and ME2 had the camera to the left. It has no advantage whatsoever and just detaches the player more from the previous experience.

- Also mentioned before: The level design feels very, very linear (As opposed to ME1 and ME2 where it just was linear, but didn't feel that way ;) ) and a lot of scripted events (again, that's the way it felt, might not be the case. But it means that it's not as well concealed which also removes quite a bit of the immersion of part 1 and 2).

So I guess all in all I feel like it's quite a nice demo of quite a nice game. But it doesn't feel like Mass Effect, which is disappointing. But I'm still looking forward to it though. :)

Sounds like stick drift.

it's been a problem in all bioware games, get used to it or buy a new controller.

But then that's where I'm confused.  I had to pull the trigger every time I wanted to fire a round with the Avenger, like it was a pistol.  No just holding the trigger down and spraying away.

Are you sure it's Avenger? Sounds exactly like Mattock and I don't remember any selective fire keys in menu.

Thanks, Jeff. You´re right. That was it. That was Wreav! I really hope they get that voice right. Too many VA changes will be very annoying.

And could I have brought my characters from ME2 to the demo? It didn´t seem so. I had to make a whole new one. PC player.

As best I know, that's the only one I had in the demo.  Picked it up before the final part of the escape from earth, and had it when doing the Salarian portion.
