The game seems to have become discolored. Or is greyish. Like the cinema "bleach bypass" technique. But it seemed a little exaggerated. It´s very grey and lifeless. It really stands out from the rest of the series. And not in a good way.

They did that with Mass Effect 2 as well, intentionally even. Basically any color from deep gray to black gets "crushed" to black. I don't know why they think that make the game looks better, because it doesn't. It could explain why the first level looks as lifeless as it does. Since the colors in the level are mostly grayish, any kind of colour correction like that will end up being very noticeable. I don't think that's the only thing going on however, since the graphics in the demo still looked worse than Mass Effect 2.

I do hope that Bioware fixes the textures..played the demo 3 times and find a lot of graphical let-downs on the PC...might as well switch to the console. Gotta bring out ME1 and ME2 for xbox now and play...

Hey i played through the demo on hardcore and i thought it was exellent, nice challenging gameplay and everything, sure am hyped to play the compleet game, but i played on both xbox and ps3 and there was a noticable difference in framerate in the cutscenes. Framerate on ps3 is too low in the cutscenes to remain nice on the eyes. i have all my savegames on ps3, it would be a shame if the final build is going to have the same issues, otherwise i might be better of buying the xbox version.

True. They did change the color aspect for ME2. But nothing so dramatic. Things still looked very "alive". They seem very "dead" now in ME3. Or at least in the demo. Maybe they sould have done a color mode for "bleach bypass cinematic feel", as they had the "film grain" for ME1 as an option. But to bleach everything out seemed bad.

I hope it´s not the feel of the final version.

Also worth notting: I liked granades and how you use it, but I felt like the power animations are less noticeable. I couldn´t keep track of them on screen as much as I could in previous games.

Best critizism ever!!!

- I know it's part of the development team's decision on where to go with a character, but why exactly does Ashley have to look like she spent the past 6 months on Jersey Shore?

i laughed so hard i almost shat myself!

I liked the demo. Not too spoilerish, and I'm glad the CC occurs before the intro. Thanks for letting us play with the CC.

Combat was fun and not too hard. Not having protections on everything was good.

Music was awesome. Sounds were also great.

I did have some annoying moments when Shep would take cover against consoles instead of interacting with them, but that's my problem.

My main issues are with the appearance of the game. The facial textures are more realistic, which makes for great hair! Unfortunately, detailed textures that are animated rather woodenly make for an uncanny valley effect. Mouth movements during dialogue seem less synched and less realistic than they did in ME2, and the eyes tend to be dead looking. For some reason, everyone in the game has distracting facial blemishes like big pores, acne and weird freckles that make them rather unappealing. Speaking of freckles, the FemShep complexion 3 (freckled) is not very nice looking. During the hearing the lighting struck them in such a way that they all seemed to be raised bumps rather than pigment spots -- this makes FemShep look like she has a terrible case of acne, especially around the mouth. It would be nice if the freckles could be flat and confined to the upper cheeks/bridge of nose.

The running and walking animations are just weird. I think I prefer the ME2 gorilla shamble -- at least it had weight to it. ME1 was better still. This time around there's too much knee action during sprinting and not enough spine motion (I don't want FemHawke spine action, mind you). Walking feels too glide-y.

Power evolutions seem interesting. I haven't tinkered with them enough to form an opinion. It seems like a good compromise between ME1 and ME2 (neither too many nor too few boxes).

Skills are fun. I'm glad to see sabotage again. Engineer was awesome. Sentinel Tech Armor appears limiting, but I usually play a caster rather than CQC assault sentinel, so I'm not sure I'll notice too much. Grenades are a nice addition.

I MISS MICHAEL BEATTIE. Mordin is just not himself without the sniffing.

I miss the ability to holster my weapon and look at my Shepard from the front, instead of having her spin like a dervish when I bring the camera around. Oh, well.

FemShep has a bubble butt that is distracting, but I can live with it. Her larger boobs are fine. Why is her alliance insignia next to her nipple (on her casual outfit) rather than higher up her chest? It's weird. I can live with it, but it's just an odd design choice.

All in all, a solid effort. If I were to target one thing that could use improvement, it's the animation: running, walking and mouth/eye movements need more attention.

Hello everyone and Bioware!

overall very good demo, pre ordered allready but there are a thing i dont like.

Since i only see 10 % on my right eye i have a bit difficult with the interface, it is too small on the highest rosultion, the health bar is in the dark corner in the center. Could you perhaps increase the size of it and all the text when you shift click. I have to be very close to the screen to see it. A fix would be good for this.

I hope the finished product sets the context in an introduction to the current situation, like the Trial and its consequences.

The femshep in game model looked fairly terrible considering how they hyped it so much.

I wonder how gun customisation comes into play as i don't know what they did to the guns but they all felt bad, Tempest seemed closer to the Shuriken. The Mattock didn't feel right either, never liked the Avenger.

I felt that movement was a little too dynamic, I wasn't used to it at first so when trying to get into cover and then rolling alongside of it instead was a tab annoying.

This isn't a reflection of the game or anything but the loadout on Sur'kesh that destroyed power reload times was annoying.

Some odd VO work with Wrex was passable because thats the stuff that gets fixed, but Not-Michael Beattie was really obviously not Michael Beattie.

Wasn't much a fan of the new hair options so I can't recreate my Shep but have to go with any appearance issues that may spring up in the switch from 2.

What really got to me was Kirrahe though. He so totally was not Kirrahe. If I didn't know that that was supposed to be Kirrahe going into this, I'd have been very surprised during his introduction. The guy is visually unrecognizable!

All that being said, I don't hate the demo. I'm not cancelling any preorders or anything, it was just jarring at first. Combat moves differently and the graphics are so different than the last, it really threw me off. But what really pulled me back in was the sound. The music, gun overheating sound, all of it was just spiffy.

Now I can say that I like the combat, with more attacks and powers, a cover system with fluidity to it, squadmates and biotics are suddenly useful; I like the graphics too, it seems more natural now, I had no issues with framerates or textures so far as I know and overall I can only feel fond of the demo. I'm still looking forward to ME3, maybe more than I was before.

I liked the demo for what it was. Sadly it was too short to get a real feel of the game. The dialog choices were abysmal and slightly different, but had the same outcome and only 2 choices. animations were acceptable, but the frame rate was terrible. It was jumping all over the place in cut scenes... During combat it was fine though. Took some getting used to with the roll and new cover system in place. It's ok but not the greatest... It should feel a lot more fluid than that. Mordin's voice was off. The good was the combat felt better once you get used to it. I played an engineer first. Wish I had more points so I could know how all powers felt maxed out. Love the new branching paths during the upgrades. Some of the slots in the paths suck and are a waste of points, but I guess thats how bio chose to stretch them out. Why put weapon upgrades in the demo but not let us use them? Wasnt the weapon bench a BIG feature in ME3 and it was absent? Adept felt pretty good, but man Vanguard destroys... I plowed thru the battles in seconds... Charge is king apparently... New heavy melee is ok. Nova is a nice follow up after charge. Felt Garrus got cheated in the demo like Liara. Couldnt see either of them with a single power at max. That shot gun was amazing! It destroyed anything in it's path! Liked the higher level of detail and things going on in the environments now. Seems more fleshed out.

This has to be the pax demo or one before that... They didnt seem to polish the demo for the consoles at all. Is this even close to the final product? If so, Im worried, if not then the final product will lay my worries to rest.

Combat=better once you get used to the stiff movements again, powers=better
Story=? not sure since there wasnt enough there and dialog options was MIA
Graphics=better as a whole
RPG Leveling=A lot Better than ME2. Branching paths with real upgrades=vast improvement over ME2
Locking out MP from the demo and alienating PS3 customers=THE WORST! This nonsense is still going on in 2012?! You'd think getting everyone to test this out since it's controversial would be one of the top priorities, but apparently being slapped in the face with money from MS overrules making the entire fanbase happy... Hard to feel good about a demo when your locked out half the content when you've supported ME since the beginning.(switched consoles due to repeated hardware failure. 5 RRODs in less than a year! I still own my NES,DC, etc and they work fine.)

I had an observation of the Demo, I didn't expect to have a codex, but I did not even see the codex greyed out in the main menu. Does the 'Manual' section function as the new codex? Or is it AWOL?

Ok demo overall. I liked the snappiness of the combat and that we could do things like roll into cover and so on. Enemy AI seemed far better. Good use of companions & voicing kept the game flowing well. Impressive to see the Reapers rather up close & personal. Nice to see that the power upgrades had some branching & choice to them, and more of them, rather than the streamlined version of ME2 that seemed almost pointless. Some major gripes though:

Power cooldown seemed far too long playing as an Adept. It seemed easy to run out of ammo emptying into these really tough troopers that just wouldn't die. Powers generally didn't seem overly effective compared to ME2.

Many of the animations of NPCs walking and talking (e.g. Anderson during the opening sequences) felt stiff, awkward, and really ended up in uncanny valley uncomfortableness. I kept wondering what was wrong with everyone, not because they were rushing about, but because they all looked like they were massively constipated or something. ME & ME2 did not have this issue; people walked around pretty normally. Something wrong there.

Very little in the way of dialogue choices, no paragon or renegade in evidence - everything was two options on the rare occasions I got to pick anything at all. Very very concerning for RPG. Where's the depth of story & meaningful conversation choices? Almost everything was presented as a foregone conclusion cutscene. I'm not playing Modern Warfare here; I'm supposed to be playing a Bioware game.

No codex? You can manage a codex in TOR but not in ME3? Please don't streamline this game so much it's just generic. Touches like the codex are what make ME what it is.

I absolutely hated the auto-unlocking; either make it a mini-game as usual or don't bother. It's just a timesink that has no value as it stands.

The single key for sprint/cover/use got confusing at times as the game couldn't decide whether I wanted to sprint, take cover, leap across gaps in a single bound, or turn on a nearby activator. It ended up feeling sloppy and hard to get the game to do what you wanted.

The final ladder before the landing bay in the second segment had a bug, where I could run into the ladder (as in inside it) before the game figured out that it was a ladder that I could climb, and then it corrected.

I was very disappointed that I had such trouble playing the game offline at all, for two reasons; firstly Origin wouldn't let me even start without a net connection - when started up without an active net connection it'd just sit complaining that the Origin Network couldn't be accessed until for the third time of shutting it down and trying again it'd let me into offline mode, and secondly the demo insisted on a net connection or it'd not run at all. When Bioware is making a big deal out of you not needing an active net connection to play the SP game (after one-time online authentication), that's pretty important to get right in terms of first impressions.

Level design is incredibly linear in most places with cover very obvious; it's getting to be more than a bit stale. When someone says 'flank them' that usually doesn't mean take two steps to the right and go around a pillar. It's getting to the point where it's hard not to feel like the game is doing everything but aiming and pulling the trigger for me.

Technically speaking, the game felt rather lacklustre in performance for what it was displaying (which looked visually not too different to ME2 other than everything was washed out in colour). Sound (all of it so not just dynamic range) seemed incredibly quiet and I had to turn my speakers up quite a bit to hear it all.

All in all, if this had been first impressions of the real game, 5-6/10 for one of the most anticipated sequels that Bioware have ever made. It's not supposed to just be an action game; we've already got loads of those. Forgive me if that sounds harsh, but this didn't measure up to ME2 let alone ME (and before anyone says 'oh it's just a demo' that is the point of this thread, no?)

I noticed the same thing. They probably have figured that they have changed the codex from game to game so much it just isn't worth having anymore. Streamlining causes a lot more discrepancies unfortunately.

Probably a little premature at this point-but if it is gone it will be missed.  I strangely enjoyed the codex more then I probably should have.  I'd just click on random stuff and listen to it while I balanced my check book and stuff.  (I know, I'm strange-sue me)

I liked the demo, felt a little dull, but that was my own mistakes for watching all those gameplay vids in youtube.

Dificulty: Hardcore
Gender: Both
classes: Infiltrator/Adept/Engineer

Good:

Combat feels much better, enemies are giving me pressure and I can no longer take it easy with cover/shoot, the rolls and cover switching are good, overall combat is sweet if not for the Cerberus tards dropping the ball, but I'll play the game in insanity and check the IA there.

The powers/abilities customization feels OK, a good compromise from ME1 and ME2.

The little surprise of Censored if you idle at Censored, i didn't expect that, and I will sure to Censored.
whoops spoilers :P

The Bad:

Running animation!!!! just ugh... mass effect 2 had it RIGHT, why change it?
Odd quirks with the hairdood and the faces
That human dreadnaught won't explode if I don't advance, and there doesn't seem to be a reason to rush yourself to do so either, I wish there was a reaper proximity bar or something similar and if that ever gets maxed (based on a timer?) a reaper will lacerbeam your shepard all the way to the Main menu screen.

The Odd: Still playing, but where is the so called bench* thing to upgrade or change my weapons...
My infiltrator has no sniper? wtf
Wrex seems much milder now.... I didn't want that!!!
Didn't notice ANY changes by picking the Numerous deads or Kaidan/Ashley...

Im a bit sad about the demo as it wont run properly on my machine so i guess Mass effect 3 is out of my league.
Its a shame as I can run mass effect 2 without problems but 3 is just not gonna happen.
Still from what i can see it looks good and I would buy the game if I could run it.

Personally I found the demo on PC quite disappointing and definitely not as good as I was expecting. The animations, particularly when running, look atrocious and inferior to ME2, and the combat seemed a little off to me. I preferred the more weighty feel of ME2. Also, the cooldown on abilities is far too long and the lip sync and dialogue is well below par in comparison to the previous games. The performance is also noticeably worse than ME2 even though the game doesn't really look any better to me (aside from the facial detal in cut scenes).

I still will definitely be purchasing the game but at this point be very surprised if it's better than either ME1 or ME2. If it isn't as good, it will be the third BioWare game in a row I've purchased that has been bitterly disappointing with DAII and SWTOR and will certainly be the last game I purchase from BioWare.

Here's hoping I'm wrong and that the full game blows me away.

Pro:

Music was great
Audio work was fantastic.
Cutscenes were one of the most immersive in the game in terms of cutting in and out of the action.
The revamped RPG elements and the combat were great fun. In short, less popamole gameplay and a lot smoother.

Cons:

The animations were cringe-worthy
The beginning felt rushed despite being impressive. In short, were is my TRIAL!?!!!!
Writing were... questionable at best.

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. 8/10

The main reason i used to play soldier was for the assault rifle... Now that all classes can use em, there's not as much of a draw for me... Can someone post how much better Soldiers are with ARs than non-combat classes? I tried out Engineer, Vanguard, Infiltrator, and Soldier so far and surprisingly, I liked the auto-turret/combat drone combo.

Combat was pretty well designed, but the roll and run to cover were a bit touchy (like Zebron is real stated) and the combat was completely different from ME2 (which is a bit nostalgically sad).  I probably would have preferred the more weighty combat feel from ME2 like decampo said.  All in all though, the demo was good and I'm still lookin forward to the 6th.
