Overall:[/b][/u]

-Gameplay-wise, I'll give it a 7/10. Still a pale imitation of Gears of War as far as gunplay goes.
-Story-wise, 4/10. Intro is sudden and nonsensical, too many unanswered questions, players new and old alike will feel lost and confused, Cerberus is suddenly my enemy for no good reason, Reaper Invasion felt anti-climactic and out of nowhere, James is introduced as if the player already knows him, and on and on.
-Overall, I'm going to wait for reviews to see if it's worth buying at full price. Demo overall did not give me a good first impression.

I agree with that summary!

Bioware, you've become horrible. You're easily the most hated developer in the entire gaming industry and you deserve so. A company that blatantly ignores the customer's requests is bound to fail.

It's Dragon Age II all over again.

I was hoping Mass Effect 3 would be an epic end.

I'm glad I pre-ordered the CE, especially after seeing videos like this: . Looks way better than the demo. So, while you guys are wailing and gnashing your teeth, I'll be having fun come March.

As for my feedback on the demo, I enjoyed it. Good seeing Shepard and the crew again, also Anderson. Vega was interesting, keen to work with him.

Played an Adept in RPG mode, combat went well using my biotic powers combined with weapons. Did feel that the ability cooldown was a bit long in the second half of the demo. Bit disappointed at the character creator, but official word is there will be more options in the game, so will have to wait and see.

i was impressed by the visuals and the story felt interresting, but the controlls was wonky as hell. its an rpg so i didnt really have high hopes anyways. multiplayer was fun, but standard horde mode gets boring real quick. also, multiplayer controlls felt a bit tighter. are they different? hope not.

A simple "We have acknowledged the feedback of our fans, and we're looking into problem areas, currently."   Or a confirmation that the issues that the majority of people are commenting on, are simply a result of this being a demo.

The thing that bugged me most about the demo was the trial being removed. Or rather, that the trial was not completely removed. I wasn't a fan of the trial in the first place, but having big signs about a courtroom still on the walls? Really?

The first one sounds like silly hand-holding. I guess they should do the second if only to avoid confusion.

It's obvious this thread was created for one simple purpose "those who don't like the demo can say it here and after the initial rage calms down and some people leaves the forums it will be removed and we can act like it never happen :)"

I liked it, I think Bioware just wanted to give us a little taste, this demo was by far better than Dragon Age 2. I liked the gameplay, good to see new character design (Ashley). I am looking forward to release.

Played through the first part of the PC demo and I wanted to be blown away, but to be honest I was pretty disappointed.

Specifically:

-No 360 controller support (again)
-Lots and lots of really ugly low-res textures (again)
-Anderson's run animation
-Sideways sprite people
-Haven't seen banding this bad since the Voodoo2 era

The first two points people have been complaining about since ME1.

Other than that I thought the visuals and settings were pretty gray and boring, and although I realise it was a sort of tutorial level, the gameplay itself of running around on those beams with invisible walls everywhere felt pretty pathetic and aged.

I was also looking forward to sampling the music, but it was noticeably absent for much of it.

In short I was a bit underwhelmed with the atmosphere, I just didn't feel it. Not sure if this is how the actual game begins, but it's got nothing on the intro of ME2 (where I was ready to shout "best game ever!" already at the point where you go outside the Normany and all the sounds are muted.)

I'm still hoping for a really good game, but between the lack of controller support and my impressions from the demo (which are summed up pretty nicely in my default avatar) I'm no longer in a hurry to get it, and might well wait for a sale before buying it.

I adore the demo! I've just got past the part where he boards the Normandy, and I watched the child, and when he boarded that transport ship and 'flew away', I just thought to myself - 'this game is perfect in every way!'. I have pure love all of the Bioware games, Mass Effect and Dragon Age being my favourite franchises, but, having played both Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 each three times over, I wasn't able to see the change in graphics. I don't know if there is any changes to see, and frankly, I don't care, because this game, on it's own, will be one of the best games ever made!

I played the demo and it failed to get me into the Mass-Effect mood completely. There were too many things with the way the story was presented and the scenery was set up that were more ridiculous than touching or gripping.

When i started to play ME2 it really felt much more solid and polished than ME1 and that it was a huge step forward in terms of production value. All the horrible because comic-esque design decisions about story telling, characters etc. came later :P.

So, naturally, I expected the same impact for the ME3 demo. But i could not have been disappointed more.
- The first scenes are filled with pseudo-dramatic but generic and uninspired dialogs (you have been in the trenches... bla bla). This neither serves as a good introduction for new players nor as a way to get old players back into the mood. This is just b-movie style war-hero blathering. Urghs.
- There is a main character popping up that isn't introduced by the game at all (Vega). But appearantly it's introduced by some comic i should have read at some point. It feels completely random when i try to follow what is going on on the screen.
- Then there are cutscenes that are hecticly edited for no good reason. The whole part where Shep and Anderson walk and talk on their way is just cut into small, wobbly pieces with a lot of unnecessary camera movement. What is it that the cutscene designers want to tell us here?
- Then there is a trial of sorts which doesn't seem to go anywhere. It doesn't serve any other function than to be there to be interrupted by an invasion of aliens. This is a weak story for a beginning of a game.
- Then there is this invasion that basically goes from non-existant to "Hey, there's aliens outside in our gardens killing stuff!!". This is not a good omen for believable story telling... :( I mean, earth is not really in the outer rims if the milky way plus humankind has invented teleskopes already at that point in history... I really really hope this will be a lot different in the actual game :(
- There is this absurd dialog about what to do now. I mean really... I can see the writers want to portrait every human besides Shepard as complete retard, but so blatandly? It makes me cringe.
- Then the whole escape feels incredibly un-dramatic. There is nothing to make me feel like there is an emergency. I had plenty time to look at the horrible textures and smoke effects, the silly 2d sprites of people running sideways, the emptyness of a "city" that is under attack... etc. etc.
- Then this forced emotions on one person dying because the game fails to show the "actual" drama of the invasion. This is so artificial and clumsy, it's embarrassing.
- Then the way all the characters are introduced. This is so underwhelming. I hope this is demo-related, too.
- The game play feels like a generic shooter with magical abilities. It's ok. But that's not why we play this game.
As conclusion: the gameplay is solid. The story and the dialogs are cringe-worthy.

Totally agree with this assessment.  I was quite dissapointed with the demo.  This after 2 years of eager anticipation.  I will now not pre-order and wait for the reviews to come in.  I'm sure I'll play ME3 but my anticipation was ruined by this demo.

The opening scene dialogue was atrocious.  Given the enormity of the situation, earth being obliterated, there is no believability in the dialogue or human expressions.  And why is Vancouver so empty, did the Reapers invade on a Sunday and everyone has gone to Whistler?.

mhh no. Those guys will still buy the game despite their disappointment, you'll see. And they will come back after the release, raging again about this game, if it doesn't please them.
It doesn't bother me since i won't be here anymore after the release. :D

I loved the demo. The scene with the kid made my heart tremble. Bioware really know how to get to the player's soft side.

Felt just like Mass Effect 2. Lame global cooldown, too few skills (especially for party members), dumb ammo "powers", thermal ammo, small linear corridor shooter levels, no exploration, etc... Basically every stupid, dumbed down feature of ME2 makes a comeback with added dudebro elements like insta-kill holographic wrist blades.

All that coupled with terrible animations (worse than the last game? Is such a thing even possible?), no ability to holster weapons so you're forced to watch said terrible animations, poor textures once again, hackneyed dialogue, an utterly nonsensical scenario, and a general feeling of being rushed.

Considering Bioware has gone out of their way to claim that ME3 will be welcoming to newcomers, and yet even someone who has played the previous 2 ME games felt lost and confused should be pretty damning. Besides, I shouldn't be required to play a mediocre DLC for the previous game that only a fraction of ME2's owners will buy to understand the beginning of ME3.

As you say, the video looks way better than the demo.  In fact, its still using ME2's systems.  Look at the health bar, or the weapons HUD.  Notice anything?  Yeah, that's the ME2 interface.

So thanks for pointing out that the current build, which is the actual game, doesn't look as good as the setup they had for E3, where they were using ME2's systems.

James Vega is in the Arrival DLC? Was he the asteroid or the Mass Relay?
