  -Holstering Weapons
Weapons cannot be holstered in ME:3 as the consoles have been maxed out for performance, there is simply no room to put it in.

Perhaps they could assign holstering to the same button/key as action/run/roll/cover. That would truly complete the confusion...

I agree it must be demo related. I'm sure there will be parts of the story where running around with your gun pointed would be inappropriate. I could definitely see just hitting one button to do everything. Aim, roll, heal, shoot, powers, jump, cover, pop out of cover, make a sandwich, hug the wrong wall, vault, run, file taxes...

By that point it would be like Russian Roulette, although it would add some additional variety to the game. Press button for random action. Which could be the difference between picking up a drink, murdering the bartender or just rolling around on the floor in an embarrassing manner...

-Shepard leaves to recruit help while Earth is under attack. As nothing the Alliance does makes the slightest dent into the Reaper fleet I estimate most of humanity will be wiped out within 12 hours, which doesn't exactly give enough time to recruit help and get them back to Earth to mount a proper offensive/defensive. It would make more sense if the Alliance could at least slow the Reapers down.
.

Good point. Shepard gets back from uniting a defense and all that's left is some villager in Africa and a Jamba Juice. Still... good juice!

The demo is great, fast paced, and graphicl gorgeous! But I still find floating thermal chips, my self getting stuck in walls, afterwards being useless in coop because of said glitch, charge is kinda still glitch, but its better, just some old bugs.

Bioware really needs to release a statement regarding the state of the demo vs. the state of the final release product. If this demo code is a few months old, then it's possible that they fixed these issues. If they intentionally cut out certain elements (animations, dialog, etc) for the demo, then just tell us that. After playing the demo though, I've decided not to buy the game until after I've seen some reviews, since I can't justify plunking down $60 on a game that appears to be horribly broken. This is the same situation that DICE got themselves into with the BF3 demo. I mean seriously, how hard is it to put a sticky post on the front page addressing the most commonly reported issues with the demo? Simply stating that the animations, dialog, story, combat, whatever is now fixed in the gold master is all we want to hear. The only conceivable reason they wouldn't do that is because they haven't actually fixed it. So frustrating. In my mind, this demo only hurt them in the form of people cancelling their pre-orders, like I did.

The more I play the demo, the more I feel comfortable about the game...

But I will state my concerns once more:
-Dialogue(which I assume will have more extensive option in the GC)
-Linear level design. This is the big one for me. ME is many things(story, characters,etc...), but it's also about exploring . Seeing the different worlds that other species come from. From the Citadel, to Iliyum to the Migrant Fleet to Omega.

I HOPE that Bioware realizes that and has a large galaxy and worlds to explore in this game and FINDING the direction, not walking the path of an already defined path.

Hi folks.

So... what did you think of the single player Mass Effect 3 demo? What did you like, what did you not like? Please let us know here as we want to hear back from you.

I am creating a similar thread in the Multiplay forum for feedback on the Multiplay demo, so please use this one to discuss the Single Player demo. Thanks. :)

Over all I thoroughly the Demo...though there are two thoughts:

1/ The Demo is lacking the sharp vibrant graphics depicted in the trailers, is this because of it's Demo status and the game graphics themselves will retain the trailer graphics?...I much prefer the sharper more vibrant graphics myself.

2/ I would love to have the ability to map the roll to another button (am XBox user)...I found it difficult to execute rolls when I wanted to and found myself rolling when unintended....Will that be possible?

Otherwise very happy myself....^_^

To everyone who says they cried when the kid died: Why?

I'm not trolling for kicks, I'm really interested; because to me, he was very much like everything else in the demo's story: Shallow, and virtually nonexistent. He was there for a grand total of two scenes, had two sentences of dialogue, and we don't even see him die. Come to think of it, we don't see very many people die at all. Its like Bioware was banking on the cliché "Child Death," for shock value.

The entire "Human," element of the intro is gone, because there isn't anyone for the player to give a damn about. Think about it, if you've never played the series before, you'd have no idea what the hell is going on. Despite Bioware saying this is the "Perfect place to jump in."

Shepard is no longer military? Why? Then we meet Vega, Shepard seems to know him, but we have no clue no clue as to who he is. We see Anderson, another person Shepard knows, but we know nothing about him. Hey Look! Kaidan... Who are you? Cue creepy smile. We stand before the council, why? Oh! The Reapers, right.... Who are they again? Cue lazy one liners about how "We're gonna fight them... Somehow... Maybe..." BOOM, okay explosions, Are those Reapers? Wow! They're huge! .... And we're fighting. Fighting. More Fighting. Citadel? Council? What are they? Not explaining? Okay... Oh look! People! Oops, never mind, we forget about you after thirty seconds and you never show up again. Fighting. More Fighting. Husks? Cannibals? What are they? BOOM. Okay, Kaidan's bringing the Normandy, a ship that may or may not be mine. All of a sudden I'm a commander again. I'm gonna save Earth.... Somehow....

See? Nothing is explained, nothing is given any depth or emotional attachment, mostly due to the fact that everything happens in a blur. Yes, I realize that Earth's on fire, but they could have easily given ten extra minutes to actually give anyone a personality worth sympathizing with. As it is, its just a blur of color and sound with no one to care about. This wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for the fact that Bioware obviously wants the player to feel something. In order to do that Bioware, you actually need to give us something/someone to feel for, not just a generic "Well, its Earth! And... You're human!" My colonist Shepard doesn't care. It could be Palaven and it wouldn't hurt any more/any less.

Now, provided you HAVE played the first games, here's something else that makes no sense: Why the hell does everyone believe Shepard about the Reapers now? Really? All of ME1, once they're discovered, no one wants to listen to your story about "Mythical God Machines sent to kill all life," until the very end, where Sovereign explodes all over their chambers, where they finally see that its not such a weird theory. Switch to ME2, all of a sudden, no one believes you again, in fact, they're now assuming that Sovvy was a Geth construct, despite there being no evidence. Now in ME3, not only does everyone believe Shepard, but they believe him/her to the point where his/her "Knowledge of the Reapers," kept him/her from being thrown in prison, and they instantly call for him/her as soon as something goes wrong. Hello? What happened? Why does everyone believe us now?

The entire story behind this intro lacks any sort of cohesion, humanity, or directing. The only thing I liked about the intro, was literally the last thirty seconds, because the shot of the Normandy leaving was actually very well done.

In the end, rushed scenes, lack of characterization, poor direction, and lack of a really plot beyond "Aliens are attacking!" aside; there's just too many "Implied," emotions to actually care about them.

It just does its job when you're not a /v/ kid trying to act tough.

How come people can cry watching Schindler's List, Titanic, The Green Mile, etc. and some other won't shred a tear? Your question is as stupid as this one, it's just the way it is.

It does work for most people, that's all what matters.

Doesn't act at all, he says two lines, then vanishes.

Not really a fair comparison; considering the movies you've listed probably had waaay more context regarding the story, the people in it, and their positions in the story, than, as I've just said, a "Character," that appears for about 45 seconds. That's what I'm talking about:; people cry watching those movies because they grow an emotional bond to what's happening, over the course of the story. Here, there isn't any development. If they don't cry watching them, then its due to personal taste, or something subjective, not because there wasn't anything there.

And "Most," is hardly accurate. I've seen just as many people say "I cried," as "I didn't cry."

As an aside, and forgive me if this has been brought up somewhere in the last sixty odd pages or elsewhere, but is there any info anywhere explaining how Anderson is now an Admiral and stationed back on Earth? Last time Shep checked in with him he was bored out of his socks pushing papers at the Citadel as ex-Captain turned human representative on the Citadel Council.

Unfortunately, no. At least, not that I saw.

Though it *might* be due to the fact that there are several variables regarding Anderson, and so weren't included in a demo.

I think the gameplay is becoming conforming to other popular games around. I didn't really like the rolling system and hit markers is very pointless. From the demo, it looks like story development isn't an important part of the game because it feels like I'm watching a high budget, blockbuster movie with a bad storyline. I hope I'm wrong. I don't want to see my favorite series go down.

This demo reminded me a lot of Dragon Age 2 demo which was full of failure. Seeing a lot of awfulness in graphical and gameplay aspect of the game. Animations are just laughable. Whoever designed Anderson's sprint animation wins the brown statue of poop.

Verdict: Very awkward and unpolished demo which strongly leads me to believe that the actual game will be the same turd in disguise as dragon age 2 was. Get your act together Bioware.

Well said. Is this demo the actual first scene of ME3? If it is, I might cancel my pre-order. I've gone out of my way to lower my expectations after the storyline for ME2 took a weird turn, but this is too much.

I assume in the main game, on a mission you have an option for helmet on or off like in ME1? I see it simply as combat = helmet on and casually chatting (or making out with LI) helmet off.

On a side note, probably a good thing humanity spread itself out across the universe. Suddenly the Traverse seem a pretty safe place to live.

*Edit: Ooooh...Check out the EXTRAS menu. You can change the options for helmet on/off or only off for conversation. Kewl! I hope we get the taking off of helmet animation. Too, no need to remove helmet issue commands in a fight, obviously.

I wonder if I would have felt differently about the beginning if Rear Admiral Michialovich was on that 'Board' of Alliance bigwigs. Or if the kid was Ashley's neice or cousin or sister or something. As it was there was no connection to either for me so I didn't really care.

That said, I'm actually quite on board with the idea that the kid is a figment of Shep's PTSD. If the kid shows up in the dark corners of the Normandy, the move might just be genius. As it stands now, it's an emotional cash grab.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The kid is more "Generic Hunter Kid" from "AVP: Requiem" than Newt from Aliens. Right now, that's the difference in how much I care.

Well lets see...

They divided the demo up chaotic, desperate, sad and then rush, hurry, get the krogan! Was an odd pick of missions there.

Visually it looked rushed default mshep + everyone minus VS looked horrible. For some odd reason VS, the kid, custom Shepard look perfect everyone else is rushed they don't look right Anderson was a big not right when I saw him. I keep going what the hell did you do to everybody. I assume in game they're polished but it was a shock to see them like that.

Voice wise Garrus doesn't sound like him his voice is too synthetic maybe it was just placement voice but it doesn't quite sound like him, Wrex and Anderson also have this same problem Wrex isn't quite Wrex.

Mshep's voice I was disappointed in its quality I could barely hear the inflection and feeling in there and I can't figure out is he not using any or is the quality of the recording so bad it's drowning out any inflection there was. When I got to the kid part he didn't sound as empathetic as he did on the TV showings of this part in the game. Fshep nails it again! I was again blown away by her voice acting a few parts here and there but again she's outdone msheps voice here. I'm hoping in the game his lines will be polished and I'll be able to really hear the inflection and feeling more.

For how the conversations went I felt left out as the player I'm use to MEs get my input everywhere and it seemed to take forever in the conversations before I could provide input shep and whomever just kept going on and on and I didn't exactly agree with everything shep said, how he said it, and how the two would keep going. For instance shep w/ Anderson shep then says " and that's why you decided to ground me then?" I would've liked to get the wheel up after Anderson goes, " you know thats not true." I wanted to Q and A here have him be honest with me but shep plows over him verbally and the conversation goes off running and I'm left wondering how do I stop it from going downhill.

Sure its the demo we get para or ren responses but I hope we get all 3 or 5 options during conversations. I didn't like the whole must choose light or darkside conversations.

Para sounds more like he's going along with things, Ren wasn't a jerk which was surprising. When I picked get out of there now! for the kid I fully expected the ren to go " GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE KID NOW! but they didn't infact the ren's way of handling that scenario was more fitting.

I noticed lines where omitted during the Sur Kesh mission shep saying he'd like to get to know the krogan for instance that line is gone in the demo

Battle wise

I could again tell when a battle was coming up due to all the covenant hiding spots I see too many shelf like corners or debris sticking up and go oh no a fight and I'm right 10/10 times. Sigh...

The new cover system is glitchy shep keeps jumping up out of cover when I heal the group she stands up in battle, use a power she'll say standing and won't go back to cover, sometimes for no reason at all she feels the need to stand up and get shot up and no matter how many times I tell her to get down she'll pop right back up. I found I had to run to different ends of the cover for instance I'm on the right corner she pops up I try to get down and she'll quickly squat and pop right up I have to run to the left corner and say get down then she'll do it shimmy back to the right corner and only use the gun anything else will get her to come up at the wrong time.

The arrow system wasn't helpful and didn't work most of the time and sometimes it would trigger the wrong direction so I want her to go leap to the other cover area she goes around my cover and gets shot.

The whole changing floors idea was interesting but I was still only getting to go to one door the whole level I couldn't say go through 3 different entrance ways (vent, door, elevator, climb, ect)

I liked being able to jump over things and climb up and down ladders.

Leveling up was OK.

I didn't like any of the guns and the shotgun was bad.

I couldn't run maybe I'm use to how ME2 forces you to run everywhere now but I couldn't run in battle I kept trying to sprint and shep wasn't doing it. Shep won't run when the gun is drawn and thre is no such thing as a casual fire fight! I need shep to run to cover and most times he just wont' do it fast enough sprint only worked part time for my demo.

Selection wise I've only custom done fshep and I love the fact I can get pink and purple hair! I so did a Kusanagi Shep and was throwing a party when she'd come on screen because it was so funny. I didn't like the red hair, the white and grey options mean I should be able to make a half way decent albino shep my next playthough. But those horrid eyes are back the ones that make shep look like her mom dropped her too many times why do you guys have those BW?

Hair wise for fshep I love the fact I finally get to see new ones but I'm disappointed we've go a lot of up do's and I really appreciated the hair strains that fell into her face but hated the fact the rest of her hair was up so I couldn't use that one. I would've like the hair strains with shoulder length hair. Beyond that the new styles have loads of volume to them too much almost going back to the 50s and I don't care for that. I've yet to do a custom mshep as of now so I can't say anything on his options.

I think there may've been a few more eye colors and we got shocking blue which was cool but they don't glow like TIMs. I wish I could zoom in on the eye or the computer would auto do this for me when I pick iris color so I can see the darker ones because I see purple, blue, red, black, black, black, black, some unknown light color, black, black, if its dark I'm basically guessing will shep have grey, brown, or black eyes at the end of all that.

Animation wise fshep is still a man really I'm going to start blasting Macho Man everytime she's one screen if this keeps up I can't stand it!!!!!! Why! I'm really really hoping she was just given msheps animations because it was the demo and in the game she's actually has all her own animations. She has a great voice but walks like a man I hate it.

Also shep was very jumpy in the opening of the game really trying hard not to plow over npcs who weren't very close to running into him/her anyway that seemed odd to me.

Too few reapers where attacking and the streets where very bare I don't think the entire city population got out of that zone in 5 seconds of a reaper landing on it.

There were more places I'd like to see the game have back and fourth moments and the way the VS both greets shep and how shep ignores them and what they say after said event isn't flowing right. I mean they call you a traitor and you can't get the wheel showing after they greet you? For instance in game it would feel better if VS goes " Hi shep!" and the wheel pops up: ignore, be corgel, be snide picking A shep looks at VS and quickly looks away and fallows Anderson wanting nothing to do with them, B shep will politely say hi but it would neither be a friendly nor mean tone, and C shep would say, "Last time we met you called me a traitor. I have nothing more to say to you." then fallow Anderson.

I wish I had time to read 60 pages of this thread, but I don't (I doubt Bioware will either :P)

I read the last couple pages just to see if there were any ongoing topics. I can mirror some sentiments of other posters:

- When and how did we get to Earth? How long did it take? Describe events between Arrival and the start of the demo. How much time has passed on Earth, as we can clearly see a repainted Normandy. Must have been there awhile, right?

- We go from the Council believing him about the Reapers, then not, but now the Alliance leadership will sit at that desk and beg Shepard, a guy who is not in the military anymore, and even WORKED WITH CERBERUS, for info on what to do? He just killed a solar system, again without proof of any Reapers. Why is he not in shackles, and why are they turning to him now of all times?

- The emotional disconnect is jarring. It was from ME1 to 2 as well. Getting thrown into an unfamiliar setting, not knowing a damn thing, and left to the wolves on why one should care about anything when one has nothing to latch onto emotionally to start building the narrative in one's head? The child death thing also did not move me at all, as some others have said.

- I have been saying in the Technical Support forum for the PS3 version that the performance is subpar in that version. So have quite a few others.

- I love the new UI. I like the added depth in the powers, though it still pales to ME1.

- The guns and powers feel good. The shooting feels excellent.

- I had read rumors that Mike Beattie would not return as Mordin. I never read anything to refute that. It pretty much sounded like him in the demo, though somewhat lower in pitch.

- Wrex. Yay!

- Ashley's new look is hot. Kaiden looks great too. Why did you make us kill one? Jerks. ;)

- I guess the lip-synch complaint is valid. It didn't bother me a whole lot, but it was noticeable.

That's about all I have right now. I am ready for bed. Overall I like what I have seen, especially in the 2nd part of the demo. But I am quite worried about the negative points above. That guy, Bentorgy, may seem to come off as a pretentious whatever, but he was correct in several of his points as well. Thanks.

Bioware really needs to release a statement regarding the state of the demo vs. the state of the final release product. If this demo code is a few months old, then it's possible that they fixed these issues. If they intentionally cut out certain elements (animations, dialog, etc) for the demo, then just tell us that.

It was on the boards here awhile ago (like when the 3 boards opened) they say the books say that Anderson resigns as representative and goes back to Earth I forgot when in the time line he does this but it is before Earth gets sacked and so no matter what all players for the game thought this would happen and we'd have Udina regardless of whom you picked in 2. Which you know Udina just makes the world a sunny place to be.

Completely agree; its like when everyone was foaming at the mouth because Ash wasn't wearing armor. (Granted, I'm still jaded, because her lip gloss, eye shadow, and manicured eyebrows still don't feel right to me, but that's another story.)

BSN was on fire for months, then Bioware released that shot of her in a full hardsuit, and the haters almost completely vanished instantly. If they did this more often, their reputation wouldn't be subject to so much poking and screaming.

If that's true, then I am going to call BS on that. Players of a game or game series should never have to consult some outside source to get information that should be provided in-game. Period. I used to get into arguments with a buddy of mine over Star Wars where he'd be "You'd understand if you read the books!" and I would tell him over and over that that's crap. Haha.

Raiden's referring to Retribution, and it is true; Anderson does (Rather dramatically) resign from his Council position, but Dwarrior is also correct; in that Bioware can't honestly expect even true fans of the series to be invested in everything related to the series. Comics, books, Galaxy, etc. They need to elaborate on it in game, so that everyone has a fair chance to understand what's going on.

Sums up my opinion fairly well.Though about the hair, why does the pullback hair make the head look half again as long?Won't use it as is.Demo aimed at shooter fans.
