The one thing I would like to see:
If there are less than 4 human players available, there really should be an option for the host to toggle something like "use bots to fill public spots". I recall Start Voyager Elite Force allowing for this, and when a human player joins they simply replace the bot. The bots can be simple (canon fodder), but would be a good distraction.

or

Perhaps the difficulty level could be automatically adjusted depending on the number of players available.

This definitely. Bioware put a lot of effort into the AI, which is awesome btw, so I'm going to be surprised if they don't have filler AI in the final game. It would be a great solution since there's no join-in-progress to replace quitters.

I posted an example earlier of an XBLA shooter called Section 8: Prejudice, which plays better than most $60 shooters on the market. In their version of Horde mode (Swarm), you have bots fill in for empty slots, and they make all the difference.

I was certainly wowed by the SP Demo. I wished Admiral Anderson understood (and stopped bugging me) as I stopped many times to look around and take it all in. Sheer beauty. Yeah, I know - sight seeing in the midst of a Reaper invasion - but damn it all looks so good. :)

I was "sightseeing" too, lol.

I can't play the MP yet since I don't have Battlefeild 3 but that's like my ONE complaint about Gears of War 3's Horde Mode. Can very fustrating trying to do all 50 waves when peeps start quiting around wave 30 or so - if not earlier. That's when I start sending random invites to peeps on my freinds list, to fill the holes lol. But even then, it won't save the match if the randomly assigned host decides to quit and we all get kicked back to the main menu. :(

Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 both give you bots as well and there's more join in progress game options. But it's a different type of game though I guess. Still hella fun though and I still regularly play L4D2.

There wasn't any music in the multiplayer but probably thats because of the size limit. Other than that and some glitches it was awesome. I really liked it.

After playing mp some more my main gripe is,
trying to revive teamates when they are near cover, and sometimes when they are in the open.
Its like the A button (xbox) will do everything but revive,( cover, dodge, sprint) etc.

I feel that having to unlock character customisation through a completely random means is slightly unfair. Personally one of the things i enjoy as a gamer is character customisation but with the way it has been set up so far you have a random chance of unlocking a customisation through the 2 choice of packs, however this isnt based on the class you use for example I primarily use the soldier class but i unlocked a secondary colour for the human (female) infiltrator class and this customisation doesnt extend to other classes even if they have a human (female) character :( everything else about the customisation seems fine, theres a huge range of colours to choose from and a good variety of customisation options but considering the amount of characters and options it seems that the chances of you getting what you want to customise for the class that you use are very slim... is there any way this could be fixed to be less down to luck and more down to personal choice ?

I just love the MP, couldn't believe how addicting it is.
But there are some things which i would like to change:
- take the heavy weapon out of the weapon cycling and give it his own hotkey so i only toggle between my normal weapons using the mousewheel (would also prefer it this way in single player)
- as male and female humans have the same skillset, let me choose the gender i want. If its about the amount of availabe characterbuilts you could just lock the one which didn't get chosen.
- customizable amorpieces, unlocked perhaps at reaching a certain level or like the other armor options through shopitems.
- lobby chat, so i can at least tell why i need some more time or why im leaving a group after several games, even if i haven't a mic at hand.

I've pretty much played multiplay all night, Its frighteningly addicting and very true to the single player feel. Its great fun with a good team of friends. Im sure there will be a few tweaks to balance so ill pass on those comments. my thoughts..

WILL THERE BE MORE MODES? Player vs Player Objectives or tdm?
Great idea adding hacks, disarms and assorted objectives, it spices up coop a lot!
The UI hotkey glitch has carried over from me2.
random unlocks is annoying. i agree with store style thing.
perhaps a very small credit reward should come each wave.
there should be a minimum of at least 10-15secs before you can be executed.
I was so happy to unlock the claymore, but its too much a liability as yet.

Personally I love it, but Im really hoping for more modes. If its just waves coop, it will get old fast.
adding more will extend the games multiplay life and it is fun enough to draw in 1st time players, so why not?

Exactly. That also brings up another point. After a while, the community is going to thin out. It's inevitable, it happens to even the best games. Having bots would give the multiplayer even more longevity, since we'd still be able to play long after most players have moved on and EA's shut down the servers. I ended up throwing out Chromehounds once Sega shut the servers down on that game.

Another example: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars on the 360. It is an awesome team-based shooter, and nobody plays it anymore. But it has full bot support, and I still play it to this day.

imo, its..... fine. It works almost exactly like the survival mode in a 3rd person shooter. I do have two minor gripes with it though, and a question.

1) The random unlocks are just broke/a bad idea, It's not so bad when its stuff like the extra medi-gel or ammo etc... but when you are getting the same weapon over and over again, and only unlocking 1 class out of a lot of boxes, thats a problem.

Again, you don't unlock the same weapons over and over; you unlock an upgraded version of the weapon. For instance you start with the Avenger Assault Rifle Level 1, but you can unlock upgraded versions of it so you'll get Avenger Level 2, Level 3, and so on. These upgraded levels increase the overall stats of the weapon.

@Foxtrot: And again, you are unlocking an upgraded Avenger assault rifle, not a useless "re-unlock" of the weapon.

I wonder how many times I've said this on this thread...

It doesn't matter how many times you unlock the same SMG, Shotgun, whatever, if you're not going to use the thing. I only use a sniper rifle and heavy pistol. That's it. My level V SMG mods are useless to me and I can't even sell them back for a portion of the credits to reach into the grab-bag-o'suck to possibly get what I would use out of it. It's backwards thinking no matter how you slice it.

It doesn't encourage me to use different gear, it encourages me to stop playing Multplayer. Therefor the unlocks are very much useless to quite a few players. If you try weapon types and say "nope, not for me" but keep unlocking mods and upgrades for weapons you hate it no longer feels like a reward. In fact, I feel punished for my progress. For instance, I have five customization options unlocked for two classes I don't use. What good is that to me?

What you people aren't seeing coming is the inevitable FIFA move Bioware is going to pull. Pay real money for even better grab bags! Three rares and one uncommon for only $5! This is a sad, pathetic system and it needs to be revamped, though it won't be, because people are somehow supporting it.

I tend to agree.  At first I liked the randomness because it was like a little booster pack.  But here I am, probably 8-10 veteran and 20 or so regular boxes later (playing 70% as Human Adept) and what have I unlocked?  5 Tempest SMG and Mantis upgrades, neither of which I'm using, 3 characters, and weapon mods for the SMG and Shotgun.  Its very frustrating, and doesn't seem random since I've gotten the same thing every time.  Why can't there just be a store where we buy what we want?  And then random boxes for the mission bonus items (rockets, medi gel, armor bonus, etc)?

I love it. The combat is nice, good mix of kill them all and actual missions like the hacking or security download, tough enough to force teamwork. The only things I didn't like is the randomized items, characters and weapons, and the difficulty if you only have one or two players. You should either unlock them as you level or purchase each on it's own, and it should have AI Bots for missing players to fill out your team.

Is it possible for people to join a match after its been made? I feel like every time someone quits I just end up with an empty public slot that never fills.

Also I agree with the grab bag complaints. It takes away the thing that makes mass effect different: choice. In single player I can choose my class, my companions, my weapons and even how I react to each situation. In multiplayer I can't choose what my hours of dedicated play goes to. That makes no sense to me. I'm pretty sure they implemented it as an artificial longevity boost...probably afraid we'll stop playing after we fully upgrade our chosen class.

I don't know, we'll see. I'm not knocking the system itself but it's going to be a pretty big uphill struggle to get me to play for long. These sorts of gigs aren't my schtick.

It is. I have had people joining our match in middle of the game. :)

And I have joined my friend's games.

It's definitely a fun mode to play. The random packs aren't too bad, but it would be even better with a trading system. After opening up my starter pack and receiving a shotgun, I decided to just go with Vanguard for a few runs. Combat is smooth, but I do find myself getting stuck in some cover chains when I'm just trying to back out of cover, not to mention the unintended rolls when just moving around. Vanguard tears it up quite adequately though.

I'm having a blast. Mostly playing a level 13 Asari Adept, and so far have managed to beat Firebase White with 2 other players on Bronze. Here are my thoughts so far:

 - I am loving the relatively high difficulty even on Bronze. However, the most significant change on higher difficulty settings seems to be added health, which I'm not fond of. A whole clip of the Avenger won't even kill a regular Assault Trooper on Silver.
 - The enemy AI is smart and aggressive. Early on I was constantly surprised by flanking enemies - it really keeps you on your toes and I hope this translates to single player too.
 - I was skeptical about the inclusion of expendable items, but fortunately the Store packs give you plenty of them. The missile launcher is especially useful when you run into multiple ATLAS mechs in the last waves.
 - I'd like to see some in-game explanation of each class's unique non-power abilities, like my Adept using barrier meter to dodge, or her area attack. I'm still not sure if the heavy melee consumes barrier, or if I"m just getting shot as I do it.
 - Please implement text chat! I've only seen one player using a microphone so far.
 -  I'd like to see the Store expanded. The option to buy random "booster packs" should still be there, but specific purchases would be nice too. A possible option would be to keep random packs, but allow purchase of specific weapons at a much higher price.
 - My player name is displaying my e-mail, rather than any actual username. I am really concerned about this.

I have to admit I wasn't sure what to think when the mutliplayer mode was announced, but I think you all did a great job keeping it as a limited yet quality experience with lots of depth if players choose to explore it. It definitely doesn't feel like an afterthought.

Well, the random stuff is just Bioware's strategy, which I have to admit it works.

It simply means that 'No, we won't give you things you want because you'll stick with that and get bored. If you want other things, KEEP PLAYING IT! "

We've already seen the number of ppl complaining about this, so? They do keep playing it.
It's just the way to keep MP crowded as long as possible.

ive only had a few games so far but its a start to get a feel for it.

so far I really enjoy it. character handling is much more refined than the other games. still getting used to the dash thing. the auto cover while dashing can be frustrating when your cheesing it away from the enemy only to faceplant yourself into cover to get shot while your (trying) to run away. :bandit: thats the only real control one I am finding.

as for gameplay though I really like it. combat (at least in the lower level players) really do need to work together to take down enemies. you cant rambo a full enemy squad unless you want to be sleeping on the ground. so it encourages teamwork. dono about the higher levels. need to get there first obviously lol

the lobby isnt bad either though with host Migrations I am assuming MP is P2P based? (on PC here) if so I would recomend getting that looked into and try making somekind of dedicated server system setup since I dont think it needs to be adressed but P2P on PC is horrible at best. too many games as of late (COD, Space Marine and a few others) have resorted to P2P on PC and frankly its just about unplayable.
having said about P2P here I have only had a few games so I'd need to do a few more rounds before I can say it works or not here.

my ecperience so far? I rather like it. combat isnt boring (which many tend to believe when you are vs AI) and everything feels pretty good.

character customisation I would like to see a little more. yes I am too low a level to have unlocked all the options but as an example. the Asari primary colour changes most of the outfit but secondary doesnt change a thing (yet)

Unlocking new races takes too long. And if we are suuposed to be adding these characters to our war assets then they should level much quicker.

Overall, I like MP, but here are my main problems:
-The weapon's bench does a terrible job of showing the difference between different versions of guns and it's hard to figure out whether or not certain gun combos will result in going over the weight limit
-Having the skins and weapon upgrades being random is kind of dumb, especially since it forces people to accept all sorts of junk that they won't use. It would be better if there was a way to select the gun related things and make all the different power combos available with a human skin, then having the skins unlock at different levels.
-The default power combo for Infiltrators really sucks. Tactical cloak isn't all that useful, the grenades are impossible to aim properly thanks to lacking arc indicators, and cryo blast, while useful, isn't a power I've ever cared about.
-The Mantis is terrible in MP. Not sure what role single shot snipers have, especially since there is no way to aim them effectively when not zoomed and enemies move too fast for a gun that fires and reloads as slowly as the Mantis.

I was kinda disappointed with no geth, every other major species is out there fighting yet one of probably the most major factions isn't? And yes I have seen the enemy geth in some videos but those could simply be a new faction of heretics, the reapers could of indoctrinated them somehow, or they are simply husk version of geth.
