ME3 PC Demo Feedback

The game itself is stellar.  The gameplay is awesome.  I really don't have any bad things to say about it just a few nit picks.

Single Player Feedback

Nice little teaser for launch.  I didn't see anything wrong with it.  I'm glad they didn't put any big spoilers in it.  I'm also glad they are showing that your teammates are ACTUALLY talking to each other this time.

Multiplayer Feedback

I think they should seperate out the <Go Into Cover> action from the <Activate/Revive> action.  There have been too many times I'm trying to revive someone under fire, I go up to them, hit space annnnnd bam Im in cover next to them.

The only major critiques I have is on the Matchmaking system itself for the PC.  It needs a good bit of work.  I have all the settings in my router and ports configured and I still have trouble getting into matches.  Alot of times it will sit on the Loading/Communicating screen with your hotkey map for at least 1-3 minutes, I have no options to cancel and then it says "lost connection to game".  I would really appreciate a cancel button on that screen so I can just retry if I see that its not making a connection.

When I do get into a Lobby with people if all four spots aren't instantly filled then they won't get filled by the matchmaking system.  There is no option to tell the system "hey we need more people" or "please keep this spot open we have someone coming".  So many times if I find a game and it only has one other person I have to exit out and try and find another match.  Usually I have to do this several times before I get four filled spots.  Once that happens everything is gravy and the fun can commence but I do belive this system needs some work.

Other then that I am having a blast.  I love the game and I was one of the people who said, "MULTIPLAYER??? SACRALEDGE!!!!!"  Though after they announced it I had a memory from Mass Effect 1 that at one point I thought this would make a great MP game.  Thank goodness they finally did it.

Played the demo on PC over the weekend. I must say that I really like it.

I must apologize for blasting the idea when it was first announced. I was very skeptical, accusing BW of just adding a tacked on MP to a great single player game in order to appease the CoD crowd. Well, I was wrong. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoy playing Gears of War multiplayer. It's fun. I enjoy the co-op play (more companies should think about polished coop play), the recruit and veteran boxes, leveling up your class, unlocking cool stuff, etc.

What would be even better is if they really did manage to tie in your multiplay experience and results to your single player game/story. I am anxious to find out if they pulled this off in a believable and fun way.

Now the demo wasn't without it's little bugs and glitches. Below is a list of things I hope they get to before the release:

- bugged hotkey bar: new powers or abilites not showing up in the hotkeys until you spawn into two matches

- being able to try and unlock weapons or classes that you want: right now in the demo, it seems TOO random (but that is a personal preference thing and not a bug)

My favorite thing in the demo was me and 3 of my buddies beating the silver level...felt like a real accomplishment.
My least favorite thing was not being able to unlock anything new for the Human Male Soldier...no really, the class, race and gender everyone seems to hate, I love and can't seem to find anything for it.

Kudos Bioware, good stuff overall.

a few words from a gearhead, for what its worth

What i like:
- Very good designed maps. They offer many cover and a lot of evade and ambush possibility.
- The revive system
- Accurate Sniper
- several munition depots spead around the map

What i dislike:
- The walls are like glue, often i remain stucked at a wall while i want to move further
- unbalanced powers of the different classes
- the A.I. of the enemy could be better

Will there be a versus Multiplayer part?

BIGGEST ISSUE:
I can't play a 4-person game with a 2-person party. Please, for the love of god, make it simple and easy in order to join a four-person game with one or two friends! Nobody ever joins my custom created room and it's difficult to Quick Match and find an open slot that my buddy can join. Lack of easy party multiplayer on the Xbox is something that Battlefield has also done wrong, please don't be another EA game to screw this up.  I made an account here just to say the above.

But, while I'm here, I also want to say that I love the multiplayer, very fun on the Xbox 360.

A couple other flaws that probably need reiterating:

The cover system is clunky. I wind up in cover when I don't want to be -- for instance, when I'm trying to run past it or when I'm trying to revive my teammate. I also can't revive my teammate from cover. I don't wind up in cover when I want to be; sometimes I will wind up rolling away instead of getting into cover.

The revive system is clunky. It needs to be a separate button than the "do everything" button, because too often, I will wind up doing something other than reviving my teammate. Alternatively, make reviving it the absolute highest priority. That would be acceptable, but not good (because then I would not be able to enter cover instead of reviving my teammate).

I cannot reload while doing something else, like getting into cover. It's too easy to accidentally interrupt my own sniper rifle reload.

The mission types need briefings. The class types need descriptions. Remember, not everyone who is playing has played single player, or ever played Mass Effect.

Multiplayer is great...I just need more people who actually play on my friend's list

The only thing I dislike is sometimes when I'm reviving my teammate, the revive won't register. (XBOX 360)

This. Primarily the match-making system needs work. In this day and age it's inexcusable for two friends to be unable to join the same match in a co-op MP match. I don't have 3 other people who will play this on Xbox consistently, I have 2, and not at the same time. Please allow a "join as party" option. Revelations screwed this up as well, and it pretty much ruined MP beyond unlocking achievements for me. Let us play with 1-3 friends, not just 3 or pug only and hope someone drops.

Other than that, MP was a blast, super fun.

My biggest issue is the way you unlock new characters. I'm desperately hoping the random chance character creator is either A) a joke(which its not a funny one) or B) just for the demo. I've unlocked over 20+ crates of Recruit and Veteran value and have only unlocked Human male Soldiers and Human female Vanguards. The problem with this as you can tell is that these are the DEFAULT characters. That is not a joke or an over-exaggeration. In over 20 crates I have unlocked nothing but the same 2 characters repeatedly. As you can also imagine this leads to the problem of unlocking characters you never want to play as.

Let people either buy the characters they want or, give them a character unlock token every 10 levels or something or, increase the drop rate at least very least.

Ohhhhh and turn down the drop rate for Predator pistols. I literally bought 5 crates and each on contained that pistol and I refuse to even touch the bloody thing since I unlocked the Phlanax.

I liked the multiplayer demo.  I'm really more interested in learning how it ties into the single player campaign.  It feels "empty" without some sort of tie in to my singleplayer campaign (I have no emotional connection to it).

I know many people have said that, but I also think that the rewards mechanic is kinda weak. If I don't like a certain class or a certain type of weapon, I'm not gonna play it even if I got it randomly as a reward.

When ME3's multiplayer component was first announced my first reaction was a disappointed sigh followed by the thought "this is going to suck big time". I was wrong, so very wrong. The multiplayer feature is nothing short of genius!
I've actually had more fun battling waves after waves of Cerberus foot soldiers than destroying the Collector base! That said, it does have its flaws:

1. The store is excruciatingly frustrating! Why the hell are items and characters unlocked by random chance?! Sure, the Veteran pack has a higher chance of scoring a new weapon or character, but I'd rather choose the prize myself rather than spending over 100, 000 credits, crossing my fingers and making a wish upon my lucky star just to have a chance of unlocking a Quarian Infiltrator (which, by the way, I still haven't unlocked upon reaching level 20).

2. I've encounted a few bugs during gameplay.
Bullets damage and kill enemies upon impact, but for some reason melee attacks seem to have a delayed effect not present in the single player portion of the demo.
There was also a time when I was using a Turian Sentinel and my shields just wouldn't stop regenerating, making me nigh invincible. Hell, I even brought down a friggin' Atlas using nothing but melee attacks! However, things got weird when a Phantom hit me with her instant kill attack. For the rest of the game, I could not respawn.

Completely agree. I've reached a total level of 40 something and haven't had 1 character unlock. Although the vet crates were nice to me and gave me a m-98 Widow.

Ok first people, READ THE DESCRIPTIONS ON YOUR PACKS. I have read post after post about "unlocking a race I already have wtf?" or something to that extent. You are actually getting additional XP and appearance customizations for the class and unlocking it only if you don't already have it. As a lifelong Collectible card game fan(atic), I thoroughly enjoy the anticipation of waiting to see what my next veteran pack reveals. The chance to get a new shiny unlock of a race or weapon I want keeps me coming back and playing again and again. Don't waste funds on Recruit packs once you have your base level weapons up a bit and you will see much better results with the guaranteed uncommon. Mattock rifles, Phalanx pistols, Widow snipers, Claymore shotguns... I've even seen friends unlock Revnant Assault Rifle and Locust SMG's. This demo is easily the best demo I have ever played.

Things I liked:
- Challenging difficulty; Made it to wave 10 in Gold and was blown away by the sheer number of Phantoms, Atlas mechs and Combat engineers the game could field at one time. AI is pretty good about things like flanking and using evasion tactics.
- class variety; no re-skins here (except male and female humans). Every race and class has a loadout that "feel" right for the characters.
- Weapon unlocks; Huge variety of weapons that will keep me coming back time and again. As stated before, I like random unlocks. Maximizes the thrill of getting new and more powerful unlocks,
- Weight system; This. was. genius. if everyone can use all weapons then what is the point of soldiers?. This deftly dealt with that problem and makes me not just use the best damage output weapon as I take recharge times on abilities into consideration with all my loadouts.

Dislike:
-Although I like the random unlocks, they do feel a little pricey. I would make the packs 6 or 7 items or reduce the price. Once the real game comes in i am sure there will be more options in the store that guarantee a race unlock for a set price or something like that.
-Waiting for the real thing in March! I really want to know what the greyed out "promote" button in the character select screen is!

Keep it up Bioware! You are off to a great start!

The experience bonus is crap. I make 12k xp blowing my nose. I don''t care about armor color as I'm sure a lot of people don't.

You're assuming everyone cares about a petty xp gain and some paint. Also I'm not saying remove that, in fact keep it that way but let us unlock the BASE character easier. Custom paint and free xp should be a reward but not the character itself.

Would World of Warcraft have been made better if when you logged in the game said "Welcome to WoW! Your first character is an elf but you have a 1/1,00 chance of unlocking the character you REALLY want if you spend 5 gold."

The multiplayer isn't bad but it could be better like you can actually connect a lot more. I tried 20 times to player with a friend and it said can not connect to friends game communicating error. Then you have the chat problem only the leader can hear the other squad members. I couldn't hear my friend and he couldn't hear me but the leader could hear both of us please fix this problem before the game comes out

Positive: Entertaining gameplay and the powers of different classes mash up somewhat well

Negative: A few classes seem very nerfed for multiplayer. Human soldier seems pretty much useless at Silver and gold levels. Grenades nerfed at gold, robbing some classes entirely of one power.

Mutliplayer is great!

Fix the matchmaking though! I cant fill the empty team spots if only one or two of my friends are online to play.

I fully enjoy the MP in ME3 demo i reached N7 rank 82 (so far). I enjoy the Pack's idea. My only two problems, One in the veteren pack it says garranted a rare item however only 1 out of 10 for me are rare, my friend (someguy422) gets nothing rare. so i'd rather the recruit pack have at least one rare item Silver, Gold ect.

Also this is a minor problem but, I'd like the missle launcher to only appear if I have a missle available.
Other than that Great work can't wait for the actual mp release. :)

I've had an absolute blast with it so far, but there are a couple points I'd like to raise:
1. Unlocking other characters: I've spent so many credits trying to unlock the turian and krogan forms for my soldier character, it's not even funny. Maybe the alternate race options should be based around the character's level in that specific class, or the level should affect the likelihood of acquiring that option via item packs. Bottom line: playing as anything other than a human should be easier to make happen.
2. Re-specing: I must admit, I was torn with indecision when upgrading my Soldier's passive abilities, because I wasn't sure if I wanted to choose greater weapon damage or carrying capacity. Along this point, I think the option of character re-specing would be a nice addition. It wouldn't be free(maybe 10,000 credits in cost) but having the option of altering your abilities will allow players greater experimentation opportunities and allow them to truly find the play style they prefer.
3. Weapon Limits: Only two weapons at once? Really? I understand that toting around six weapons might cause balancing issues, but the weapon limit really ought to be something around the lines of 3(especially when the third weapon is a pistol or submachine gun). I understand not letting someone carry around a sniper rifle, assault rifle, and shotgun, but why can't I carry and assault rifle, sniper rifle, and pistol(or SMG) at the same time? I've been forced to drop one of my main weapons(Avenger assault rifle) simply to experiment with a new SMG I received. And while the SMG(the Hornet) rocks, having it and my assault rifle, plus my sniper rifle, would be extremely useful and make the experience more fun.
4. Connection Issues: While the experience has been pretty smooth(host migrations don't count as connection issues) there have been two face-palm worthy instances: One in which the last guy alive on the team was stuck in some sort of glitchy fall-loop, unable to escape, move or attack and nigh impossible to kill. I watched him jitter about surrounded by enemies for about fifteen minutes before a phantom somehow managed to get a lucky shot in and put the guy down for good(he had already been killed five minutes earlier but somehow glitched out of his death state). The second instance was when I was playing with an old pal, and he was the only one left alive on the team. I was in spectator mode when the network connection cut and dropped me right out of the match, costing me a boatload of credits and XP. While these are the only two notable issues I've yet had with the connection, I really hope they aren't a problem in the retail release.

Really loving the MP so far, though every time I use my Quarian Eng. It either freezes or crashes my computer in the later waves. It happened 7 or 8 times on Sunday and I'd get no xp or credit for going 8-10 rounds and killing tons. I tried with my other characters - Turian Sent., Krogan Soldier, and Human vanguard and all work fine with no PC troubles... (except last time I tried the Vanguard all but 1 power button had been unmapped and I couldn't click and drag them back to the action bar.)

Also the unlocking bit could use work... I've lost count of how many times I've gotten human male sent. and human female vanguard.

I'd love to have a patch or something to the real game to where you could play just MP without it affecting the SP game. And I am a little concerned about how MP might affect the SP game.... like if you fail a mission could you just have a do over or are you screwed for that part?

Everything seems to be going well, the difficulty seems appropriate, and the enemys are manageable.  The only problem I have is with the "luck of the draw" item system.  I think the random feature is nice but I think instead of everything being in the same box there should be seperate boxes for classes, weapons, and equipment; that way it's a lot simpler and easier to get what you want.  P.S. I do think the different  crate qualietes should stay, maybe made even more diverse, and to counter the specificity of the new crates maybe reduce the items unlocked by them to 3.  Just some tips keep up the good job Bioware.

What a great idea to have such an immersive MP demo! Gave us the chance to really find out the ins and outs of the game.
My thoughts:
Pros: Customization - Weapon upgrades -Multitude of Different classes - Different abilitites for each class - different weapons are cool -  random crates is good idea, implimentation....? -

Cons: A button for revives - When crouched behind cover, I sometimes move much farther than wanted, ie; just want to look over a diffferent shoulder and I move completely to the end of the wall/cover - Not being able to have other people join when only three or less in a party. This last one is pretty significant - I am afraid level caps are going to be a problem. If I get my human Engineer maxed, where do I go from there? Prestige? - Only 11 waves? 50 like Gears is not necessary, but maybe an option for a vote to go to 21? - Turrets are overpowered, both N7 and Cerebus - likelyhood of getting the weapons you want from random crates is very low - sticky mine should be guided like the concussion (soldier) - Was getting very frustrated last night by all of the people dropping and spots not being filled - The time that you get executed should be extended. Too short to immediate sometimes, this excludes phantom executions...that's cool and puts in a factor that these B's should be feared!

Please do not take the length of the cons as a sign that I do not like the MP. I have put an embarasing amount of time into it;)

just got finished with gold and by far the most unbalanced thing are the turrets. they do more damage than a phantom or an atlas. they need to tweak them to shoot slower. also, mapping revive to a diferent button would be nice. and if they can add spotting in an update like gears 3 has, the multiplayer experience would be flawless imo.
