From what I read, I think that random unlocks can be fun for a while, when you are beginning the multiplayer experience. But when sank a couple dozen hours and are looking for something in particular (class, weapon), then this system is just frustrating. Solution: Unlocks based on class you're sinking time into, play as sentinel?, get sentinel class unlocks, use sniper? get sniper. Although I agree that powerful weapons (widow), should be rare in this random packages. But in no way class unlocks should be rare. This way you'll first complete classes first, weapons later.

I thought this was Mass Effect not Pokemon Trading Card game.
Ah that takes me back.. Buy 20 booster packs. Never find a Charizard.
You talking about the card with ****(german) flag on the castle, my friend had 2 of them. They were in very first run cards in the states then they done a reprint without the flag on them.

I don't have access til Friday, but I know I would rather spend more time desiring a certain unlock than getting it immediately and have nothing else to look forward to.

Keep the unlocks. So much better than just generic "unlock the best stuff first" that all shooters seem to be doing. I like the unknown, it actually keeps me playing for longer. Glad they didn't take the CoD route.
There could be a solution for that.
Say you are in the store. All of the weapons, mods, etc start out at level one (except for the default weapons of course). So when you buy that new Mattock rifle, you get the Mattock I, and then the Mattock II appears in that slot in the store. But as it gets higher in level, the incremental cost goes up. You would still have to work your way through the ranks, but you would work through them on the weapons and mods that fit your needs.

That's exactly how this should work.

I'd like it if you could trade the stuff you don't want with players who want it and have stuff you want, wouldn't it be cool?
Edit: The rocket launchers you get are invaluable though, along with medigel.

They did the same thing in SWTOR multiplayer with Champion / Battlemaster bags - and never worked. They had to give commendations instead of random loot because the playerbase raged. I can't understand why tried again a similar system in ME.

But both systems clash with each other that way. Still, so far I have seen no problem with the unlock system. I have been sort of lucky and it kind of promotes saving up and playing the game to buy stuff that is more expensive (i.e uncommon items in the bigger pack.) I don't know, it makes sense to me on some levels...

I have bought about a dozen veteran packs and 2 dozen recruit packs and still can only play as humans.AlphaJarmel wrote...
I literallt have bought roughly a dozen Veteran packs and all I have unlocked is Turian Sent and Salarian Inf. What's even more garbage is the gun upgrades are for the AR which I never use. I have two fully maxed out AR's and not even a level 2 for any of my sniper rifles.

Unlocking everything you want within a few days of game play does not create longevity. It's not surprising at all this is the system they went with, seeing as how they want people to play it for a long time.

I keep seeing this line. Call of Duty and Battlefield get hundreds of hours sunk into their multiplayer and they have level unlocks not random.
My playstyle has just moved onto "this class is good enough so I'll stop wasting credits now". That is after only 4 hours.
