I'm level 80.

I get 75+ kills a game.

I have only unlocked 1 extra character (Drell vangaurd...Which I feel is infinitely inferior to the standard human vangaurd) and I ALWAYS buy the "veteran pack" (which i am able to buy 3 every 4 games since I average 15,000 credits a match)

I want to say this system has driven me up a wall to the point if its THIS hard to unlock characters in the final game - I am going to cancel my preorder. This is silly.

After I max out my character let me at least get ONE other race for free in that slot.

I understand I am probably an exception... I have watched my friends get Krogans with their "starter" packs that you get for free and then asari on their very first pack after that.

But if you INSIST on keeping this system - at least put fail proofing for people who are infinitely unlucky such as myself. After x amount of packs - you are guaranteed a character you dont have.

I have maxed out characters FFS and I'm beyond upset with this game at this point. I feel like I'm grinding pointlessly. I'm not playing to have fun. I'm playing with the hope I can HAVE fun with different characters. I am not even looking for any SPECIFIC ones. I just want SOMETHING ELSE!

I have the exact same problem. I keep getting character packs I have already maxed and I am greatly annoyed.

It's to the point I'm POSITIVE that some accounts just arent' allowed to unlock characters.  There has to be a bug somewhere that doesn't let me get other characters (ignoring that drell... that was a fluke)

I personally think its the higher level characters that have this problem

No they're not. The only thing that needs fixing is that once you've maxed something you can't get that again.

They have to fix this and like that one person said he might cancel his or her pre order . Bioware can not play around with what is a standard thing in MP and thats you level up your character you unlock things its a standard . either they learn now or ME 3 's MP will get slaughtered by the real MP games

Man, a few days of multiplayer access and everyone forgets that the reason anyone cares about Mass Effect in the first place is the singleplayer. Cancelling your preorder over the multiplayer is like throwing away the main course because the side dish isn't very good.

Its different now EA / Bioware made a choice to add MP to this game . I judge games on what it has to offer. They said we could play as aliens in the co op . Well They have lied because they failed to tell us that the only way to do it . Is playing some stupid lottery style game . In Gears of War 3 you unlock characters to play in MP by leveling up . Epic and Infinity Ward know how to handle MP unlocks . All of this because of their stupid media black out .

We should be able to buy every upgrade without buying the random packs. I realize that BW doesn't wnat to do that, but maybe they would consider it if it was much more expensive to just buy what you need. or want.

Example:

Let's say that a weapon mod is like 1 in 10 in a veteran pack, make a weapon mod pack cost 20 x a veteran pack. That way it is more cost effective to buy a veteran pack and get a random weapon mod. Or expand from that and an invidually weapon mod cost 50 x a veteran pack.

Base the cost on how rare an item is, but let people buy what they want if the grind out the proper number of credits.

To play Devil's Advocate:

People cared about the single-player for Mass Effect 1 and 2 because that is all that there was. Mass Effect 3 is being sold as, "A great place to try out Mass Effect". Which has co-operative play as a selling point. I might only be interested in Mass Effect 3 for the multi-player, much like Halo or Call of Duty these days. So canceling a pre-order for a game that has co-op I don't enjoy enough to pay full price for and single player I don't care about is entirely legitimate.

Some people forget that when you make a game and plan on selling it to paying costumers everything should be polished.

I like it, but I know I'm in the minority so I'm not going to crusade against anyone who disagrees with me.

I like chasing unlocks rather than actually having them. I get excited enough about getting a rocket or medigel from a pack, and anything over that is just a jackpot.
Lost Planet 2 has a more or less identical system (except the 'fodder' reward there was a pool of literally hundreds of titles), and it's what kept me and my 2 friends enjoying subsequent replays until we unlocked everything we wanted.

I like chasing my rewards, not just having them. But i want to know where i stand in that chase.

IMO this system is more of a spoon feeding method so that bad players can have good gear.

Ok let me change my previous statement. When i posted saying i was mad that i kept getting the same weapon i had only played a few games and had not figured everything out. Now i see that everytime you unlock a multiple it levels up that gun. With that understanding now i love the MP i had a full day to play and I couldnt put it down. It does suck when you want something and dont get it, for me thats the Mattock but its much more enjoyable then say COD where you know what you are getting every time you prestige its the same thing, better weapons as you level up and for people like me who play when i have spare time that sucks, you cant compete with people who play 12-15 hours a day and when you miss a day forget it everyone has lapped you.

Side note to the guy saying he will cancel pre-order unless MP is changed. Most of us here play ME for story and a few were mad they even implemented a MP so by that statement we know you probably wont even play campaign, THIS IS NOT COD its a RPG if you dont like the MP then dont buy the game id rather play with ME fans than FPS fanboys who will sit around playing mp all day and have no idea what the story is about. There are issues with the game but its a damn demo lets see what the final product looks like before passing judgment

I have played the MP demo enough to pass judgement and the verdict is unless they fix the unlock system this MP sucks and is garbage compared to COD's Spec Ops where you actually get something for your XP you earn .

I'm not going to play the MP until that package system change radically!

Is extremely frustrating!

Guys, this is a DEMO afterall.

It's not in fine print.

My personal opinion, I prefer being able to actually purchase equipment like cryo ammo and weapon damage modifiers.

I would also prefer buying medpicks and self-revives if I'm trying to go through a gold challenge.

I swear that I feel like this thread is filled with the equivelent of P2P game's little kids with their parent's credit card, "OMG I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY IT CAUSE MY PARENTS ARE PAYING." Seriously, talk about your over priveleged brats running around here, all this stupid level up and grind unlock crap from games like CoD and others (I used CoD as an example because its the most well known).

You know what? I think the random chests is a good thing, wanna know why? It teaches you stuck up pricks to take this for what it is, a f***in game and to have fun with it. If every class was available at start, and you could buy every weapon whenever you wanted it would RUIN the game. You would end up getting specific minmax bull**** builds with people using the most powerful weapons. Right, so throw out half the game now. You want to be able to buy the strongest rifle, SMG, shotgun? Just throw EVERYTHING out between the starter and the 'most powerful' which itself is an objective term, so that we can 'simplify' this game as well.

Whiney little cry babies needs to learn to play a game for once, go play a game from the early 90's, I'll see you in an hour when you're crying that you can't beat it cause its 'too hard' and there's no difficulty setting.

The random packs cause us to diversify our gameplay. You think we as N7 agents in a military that is struggling to retake Earth itself has the resources to give you whatever the f*** you want? No, you take what you can get and use it, adapting to your available weaponry as much as the location and enemies you're facing.

Ideally? This game should have no other setting besides Gold, Random Location, Random Enemy. Why doesn't it? Because gold is HARD and most people would stop playing after a few games of getting their butts handed to them in the first couple rounds. That's why we have bronze and silver, I've only won a handful of silver games myself now, it took me quite a few bronze games until one of the classes I liked unlocked for me, but in the meantime I used something else, something that was defaultly available.

People wonder why the modern video game player base disgusts me, its because so much whining goes on that games have been 'idiot-proofed' and have continued to 'devolve' in concept and inginuity. There aren't many gems left for developers in the gaming industry now, and Bioware is one of those few. If you'd like to whine and have ME3 dumbed down then leave, right now, and just don't play it.

well don't do that! The package system needs fixing, but the MP is really really good. And even if the MP system changes its not going to be over night. You'll likely end up waiting months.

I like the system as is so long as percentages of drops don't get unreasonable. It's make playing the game more addicting and it makes getting the items a LOT more enjoyable. It also makes people play characters and use weapons they wouldn't otherwise try if they could just choose what they want to buy.

Obviously it's frustrating when you're not getting what you want, but all of the frustration adds up to more and more enjoyment of when you finally get the item.

It seems to me that the people who really hate this system are people that have no patience and just want everything given to them right away.
